  1. Played the demo and the best thing was the very beginning. Was really laughing about myself Afterwards it became somewhat shallow for what it apparently intended, so I steered clear of the full release.
  2. I respect your opinion too, but yep, we're on opposite sides on this one then Main character + party were absurdly powerful too, that's true, so dragons and liches and tons of high level constructs were the only somewhat challenging opponents - I agree. And I don't like this, that's why I support the first part of the thread's title wholeheartedly Off topic, but I also disliked having to save Imoen-turned-wizard from a random cruel "scientist" as a story motivation, yet still played through that game multiple times (not the addon though, killing spawn after spawn after dragon once was enough). Something must have been good about it after all - in hindsight, I just really wonder what made me play time and again. [edit] You are right, "hate" is too strong a word, and it is inaccurate. Must have read too many forum posts of late.
  3. I don't even think they should do much dragon / demon / god fighting in a higher level sequel - maybe at the very end of the game with an army where the player's party only helps the others overcome a great foe. Really hated BG2, especially TOB, for spamming the player with those extremely powerful creatures.
  4. Played through it as Anjali, Treasures of the Sun included, and really liked it While action RPGs are not my favourite genre, I was very pleased with the looks, the stability of engine and robust mechanics. The short books and other texts describing the world's background were really well done too. The environments also sounded pretty good. Few points I was not fond of: - Women were automatically pretty and big breasted and swaying their hips while running, while male characters looked pretty realistically varied - fan service much? - Anjalis voice was... lacking - it may have been intended to sound otherworldly or something, but to me it sounded like a completely uninspired voice actress. Related to this, every now and then it seemed like the voice actors did not read the whole conversation, stressing syllables in a way that does not fit the context. I mention this very common problem because voice acting in Obsidian games was really top notch back in the Black Isle days. - Aiming was a bit strange at times.
  5. Regarding mantle outside of Battlefield 4: This swarm demo thing with mod support was said to be released in January (skip to 26th minute if not interested in tech background and marketing) : Thief is due out in February I think. So far, this game really looks good to me, now that they seem to have listened to fans regarding QTEs and HUD etc.

  7. Hm... I apologize, Falkon Swiftblade: maybe I was too fast in dismissing a link between developments in texture streaming and file compression. Currently reading through this interesting presentation http://twvideo01.ubm-us.net/o1/vault/gdceurope2013/Presentations/824810SwenVincke.pdf because I'm currently playing Dragon Commander, and starting from page 22, they describe a possibility of image compression that can be handled by the GPU quite efficiently and is very efficient with regards to storage requirements at the same time. Same "Granite" technology described in Falkon Swiftblade's link above. Again, it's a different requirement (texture for real time 3d game), but for P:E using a fixed viewing angle it could actually be even more efficient.
  8. Wintertime... time to follow the sun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvDhOvXG26c
  9. No, no no, it's cancelled Damn it... don't want to know how much money and inspiration that KS / Plan B cost them
  10. We, however, don'ts.
  11. After the DRM-thingy on Shadowrun, I was really pissed at them. But times have changed and so has their stance on DRM free distribution. So I have now played the game and am pleasantly surprised Really good atmosphere and writing, don't even dislike the looks or linearity Bought both Expeditions Conquistador and FTL from regular channels (gog and humblebundle) not from kickstarter and have played them through (ok, haven't beaten the second phase of the end ship in FTL yet nor do I have all the ships at my disposal, but hey... ). Addictive games on different levels So all in all, I have not been disappointed in any KS-game I've played Looking forward to the next releases, Banner Saga and Wasteland 2 in my case.
  12. Yay, everything works now :D Even got my badges right after completing the process. Really friendly and competent support, thank you!
  13. I for one think it's very funny, given that they already show more variation than the game they were inspired by I mean, even by just watching my girlfriend play Skyrim for a short while that line started to feel repetitive to me... Repeating the reference is part of the joke to me. And for those who don't like it: if I were a modern user of the internet , I'd call all of you some highly clever allusion of "butthurt" trollishly
  14. Just got it today and will start playing soon, looking forward to some good writing for an action rpg :D
  15. Uuh, support is now working on my case Seems I confused the system a bit, or maybe the system is fine with amounts that don't add up? I'm intrigued and at the same time feel sorry for the guys @Obisidian for the hours they have to invest in their backers.
  16. Nice one Quad-SLI or a glitch in your System-Settings software (I love your monitor btw )
  17. I suppose they've go their hands full at the moment. Sent my request early Dec 10 from the backer portal and am also waiting for a response. Patience is a virtue etc. but maybe, if you don't hear from them during next week, PM to Fionavar or write to support again?
  18. It is not, even though the article claims reduction in disk file-size as well. That article is about streaming textures, i.e. loading them when needed instead of keeping them in memory from the get-go. File size might be reduced if they do something like creating mip maps when needed from the base textures instead of having them stored along with them in the texture files, but I somehow think that's standard nowadays anyway. P:E however won't be using textures in that sense for the backgrounds so as I said it's not relevant here.
  19. Thank you Fionavar I'd seen Gfted1's post and replied in a sort of confirmation of that info (i.e. issues with pledge management on the "Orders" subpage can cause the missing badges, even though it says "ok" in the P:E account's "Pledge" subpage). So am I :D
  20. I doubt that any PC game could effectively treat hemorrhoids xD Anyway, physical tiers are now available too, yay :D Now I just have to wait for the backer portal to evolve to allow me to increase the pledge level...
  21. So while I do see placeholder-texts on my profile for the badges, no actual badges have materialized been made visible so far. Still waiting for support to get back to me because of that ominous open order. They probably are quite busy currently after the opening of the backer site
  22. Completely agree. And even if Obsidian would use the data for something good (what good, dumbing down future games to only include features used by a certain big enough percentage of players?), I don't want everyone else to have access to my playing data. Every bit of data that moves over the Internet is monitored. Really hard to breathe freely in today's world of constant surveillance and scrutiny.
  23. Command console yes - to tamper with system settings and fps display and whatnot. Cheating? I don't care, wouldn't use it, but also (no longer) want to impose my opinion on cheaters.
  24. Don't have a PE-Backer badge nor a KS one. Probably because I have a pending (wrong) order in the backer portal. I'll wait until support acts on that problem before I worry about my precious badges
  25. Even if it means less incentive for people to put in additional pledges/pre-orders: Please do not add more stretch goals, but use additional funds to polish what you intend to include at present, instead of adding more things.
