A thank you to Obsidian for the localization :)
samm replied to Zwiebelchen's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I'm not so sure Schurke is an appropriate translation, because it is inherently a bad guy, while Rogue focuses on the independence more. Anyway, unless the original language is one I don't understand, I prefer no localization - and if a game / movie features a language I don't understand, like Japanese, I prefer subtitles to dubbing. There might not be much of a difference in a text heavy game like PoE, but it still keeps more of the original feeling. --- Long story short: While I personally couldn't care less about the localization of PoE, I understand it's economically feasible to appeal to a greater audience. -
Viewer discretion advised, cheap gore effects Love the minimalistic soundscape of this

I agree with Keyrock, nice one and should work well for quite a while Also, I commend you for your noise tolerance - that's a stock cooler on the FX, isn't it?

Now I've seen the beta, I think I can live with the current state of affairs - either they do use AA for the models, or there just is no noticable aliasing around them There's only one place where it looks ugly, and that's character creation: Some textures, noticeably chain mail (I guess that's what it is...), shimmer heavily, textures are not very crisp otherwise however, the edges are jagged and, while SSAA would fix all this, apart from the aliasing issues, the lighting is really making it look bland.

Yes, calculation details would help. My Lvl 5 Orlan Rogue with Con 12 has 139 health, while BB Fighter, Lvl 5, 18 Con has 133 health.

I have it right from the start - can't zoom but the fog of war changes according to the zoom level.

Unable to change the game's language

I agree, and I think it should do so from the installer (for the standalone version). Have changed my posting accordingly. -
Rogue gets Devastating Blow before Finishing Blow
samm posted a question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Description: When leveling up my rogue character, he gets the option to chose the talent "Devastating Blow" on level 3, which improves "Finishing Blow". However, he does not get "Finishing Blow" until level 4. Expected: I would expect to gain the base talent first, before the improvement of said base talent. Reproduce: 1. Create a new rogue character in Backer Beta 2. Start game and level up twice- 1 reply

Unable to change the game's language
samm replied to Furism's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Same thing affects me as well. I think the game should respect the setting from Steam, or if not installed via Steam, the setting chosen at installation time OS setting regarding language (not locale). -
Game launch error: failed to start (error code 51)
samm posted a question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Description: Much like it was the case for Southpark (Link to relevant topic), Steam won't launch the PoE public beta. It throws an error code 51 instead. Expected behaviour: Game launches. Reproduce: 1. Install FSecure Antivirus and update it. 2. Try to launch Pillars of Eternity beta from Steam Workaround: Go to Antivirus settings and set "compatibility mode" for Deep Guard, or disable Deep Guard. Fix: Obsidian should contact FSecure and register their game as non-virus or something like that...- 1 reply

Did you turn off any kind of "HDD"-sleep behaviour in Windows Power Options? Also, the "image" thing has me wondering: Did you take an image from your AMD platform and migrate this to your Intel platform? Might be cause of these issues as well (how such a move would even allow Windows to run would be rather surprising to me anyway ) Other than that: If you're using the Intel storage driver: Given the Intel-platform I'd have said it might have something with LPM, and while it's strange that it would happen on the AMD computer as well, it might be worth a try to disable that (randomly googled link about how to proceed) Otherwise, try switching to MSAHCI, Microsoft's standard AHCI driver.

Voice Acting?
samm replied to Dwarfare's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm sure there's some thread better fitted for specific voice acting "requests", but that's what a search turned up... So anyway, thinking about the character voice sets (assuming character creation is similar to IWD / BG in that respect) or for opening lines in an important NPC's dialogue, it would be absolutely great to have some deep, rhythmic voice à la Avery Brooks. If there's any way of getting him to do voice acting, I'd actually create my character around that voice instead of the other way around. -
Awesome, Woldan als Walsingham convinced me to listen to Portishead and Gein again respectively http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sARp5oZOMj8

The backdrop is seen orthogonally, so I would believe that MSAA has no effect on it, while FXAA would still blur it and supersampling should still not make it look worse, even presenting more information in case the background texture's resolution is high enough. Nor do I quite get what you're referring to when you say upscaling. Do you mean when zooming in? Btw, maybe I'm misinterpreting, or just wrong
-
There's some serious misunderstanding of the way AA works when recommending FXAA because it applies "to the character and scenery meshes" and then critcizing SSAA because it "might blur details". SSAA would, if anything, add details, and true blurring would only happen in case of some Post-Processing affecting it. SSAA uses added information to smooth the image, FXAA on the other hand is nothing but a blur filter, destroying information of the image.

Thousands of years without war, nor other remnants of violence, no leader cults? Hygiene, standardised measurements, trade, written language - there's a lot that's worse now than this culture from 6000 or so years ago was Thanks for sharing

But full quotes are now even more awesome than ever with those stylish rounded corners (© Apple) and how they clutter the answer box

Just a little thing I noticed: Have a look at the decorative gem used at the bottom of the page, then reload it and re-check. Some interesting things may appear...

Kickstarter Backer Badge 2
samm replied to LadyCrimson's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No K, but very nice badge you got there -
Short lived (as a socket - my 939 system lasted about 5 years as well) but really good for its time, yes 800 MHz is one hell of an overclock, never tried such adventures oO
-
Maybe you can get an Opteron 175 or something like that for cheap, it would be a significant upgrade to have that second core and certainly make it a better machine for streaming as well

I can only dream of remembering a tenth or so, let alone anything much besides names - damn you memory^^
