  1. Just tried the demo for Showgunners. A turn based tactics game a la XCOM, where you play a team in some dystopian death match arena reality show. Th demo has you at level 13, so you get to be quite awesome at what you do. Seems quite fun.

  3. While people here were ridiculing the post by Prigozhin about losses of his troops, Reuters published report on Russian “progress” on Bakhmut as well. It is estimated, that they lost in last 5 months 100k soldiers, out of which 20k has been KIA. The battle is ongoing for more than 8 month already and the city area taken by Russia is less than 40 square kms. Impressive eh? https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/us-believes-russians-ukraine-have-suffered-100000-casualties-5-months-2023-05-01/

  6. First update in a while, time to see if the auto-update feature works properly 2023-05-01 Added auto-completion functionality to expression editors! Searching conversation nodes will now also match Bank Node children. Conversation 'Character Mappings' are now scrollable and won't increase the window height. 'Vatnir' and 'Mirke' expression editor aliases now translates to the correct IDs. User scripts now include System.Collections.[Generic | Immutable] usings. One feature I'm very happy about is auto-completions when editing expressions, this will speed things up immensely

  7. Well, yes and no. This thread became more irritating than usual, which sometimes prods me to reply in the face of better judgment. The initial draft was much different, and a lot more mocking, and not directed at you in particular, just at the idea that there should be a cultured debate about everything, when historically, cultured debate nary made for change, while protests and people fighting for their rights in the face of bigotry and hate did. Eisenhower did not send a debate team to convince the bigotted concerned governor of Arkansas to desegregate schools when he refused, he sent the 101st Airborne. You can look it up, there is plenty of information available. It is simple to substitute homosexuals with trans persons in her speeches, and you will find that suddenly we arrive at the exact same talking points that concerned parents, feminists and conservatives (what an amazing time we live in, when an originally far-left idea proposed by extremist lesbians is co-opted and turned into a right-wing movement, and you have feminists joining in) spout these days when talking about the transgender liberation movement. There is some bitter irony in all of this, back in the late 60ies, the feminist movement attempted to exclude lesbians, and the lesbians rallied and replied by staging aggressive and disruptive protests. Once accepted by the feminist movement, they then immediately proceeded to try and exclude trans persons, because never let it be said that "the left" or minorities are any better in learning from history. Here we are today, with people like Posie Parker being co-opted and funded by the conservatives in the weirdest unholy alliance ever. Left-wing fringes and right-wingers united in a common cause: dealing with the transgender menace (feminists used to call lesbians the lavender menace, by the way, a rather prominent one even going so far as to call lesbians a CIA psy-op to discredit feminism). I would laugh, if it were not so dire. No, they are not. It is the same pushback against a liberation movement that has always come about in the face of liberation movements. The way these talking points are the same is quite scary, Anita Bryant was very vocal about homosexuals not being able to reproduce, while nowadays gay men argue that transitioning is bodily harm because people who are actually "just gay but confused" are castrated by the gender affirming treatments. The amount of mental gymnastics necessary here is astounding. Gay men, arguing against trans liberation because it affects fertility. Here, have a tweet by one of them. Spoilered because very graphic language. He has that legal right, yes, because from what I have read universities have no legal recourse to stop these student events, which is fine in and of itself. The problem we are now dealing with here, and that is thanks to the protest turned violent (although this is just one such event in a long list), is unfortunately that we are now at the stage where bigots who advocate transphobia are now "people with different views" in public discourse. Sure is a different view all right. One that should not be accepted, of course, but sure is. I should have said false moral equivalence, as it was supposed to allude to the false equivalence fallacy, the idea that points of view are of equal merit even when they are not. Rallying protestors to stop Charlie Kirk from speaking is no different than rallying protestors to stop Anita Bryant from speaking, or rallying protestors to disrupt the Second Congress to Unite Women from speaking against lesbians in the feminist movement, doubly relevant because in this case, the "Lavender Menace" actually stormed a school auditorium and disrupted the talks. In closing, here's a quote from Posie Parker, CPAC funded public "gender critical movement" face TERF: Yes men, please, enter women's toilets and protect them from the lesbian transgender menace. If you happen to catch a couple of butch dykes in the crossfire, well, it is just back to the roots. Just in case anyone considering themselves centrist wonder why people in the movement are so "hsysterical" about it, in the face of bigotry, instead of having calm debates. Hilarious, really, the people in the gender-critical movement are telling trans women, who they consider to actually be men, to be less hysterical, a trait historically ascribed to women. And the politicians enacting the laws to counter trans liberation and inclusion in the US? Why, they're mostly men. Conservative men. Republicans. To use radical left-wing nomenclature: OLD WHITE MEN. Hey TERFs, I have a question for you: have you ever stopped and wondered why you're actually helping your sworn enemy here, the patriarchy? Over what, bathroom policing? Uhm. Edit: There is some clarification necessary, I believe. Calm and measured debate and empathy are important to de-radicalize people, but this is a slow process and does not work with everyone, and most certainly not the instigators and bigots who are tirelessly working to change the political climate for the worse. If you think De Santis or Trump could be convinced to let go of their bigotry, then I have a bridge here I'd like to sell you. Only slighty used.

  8. I noticed that while playing in my shared multiplayer world on steam with one other person, lint does not respawn in the undershed. It still respawns on the deck (thankfully), but after waiting multiple days, it is just not respawning. As soon as I loaded after updating to 1.2.0.4105 I noticed that there was no lint in the undershed using the locator, Im unsure if this was due to me harvesting before logging off or if it just simply disappeared. I have yet to trigger the wasps, so maybe that will fix it?

  9. Yes, that's how importing works. It becomes very expensive to hire an exported char as adventurer if there's multiple unique items in the inventory though. Ridiculously expensive. Best to export the char almost naked with only that one unique item you really want/need.

  10. Cool, I'm happy that it works for you. Yes, the Knockback can indeed be annoying. Frostseeker's AoE does work with Energized (interrupts on crit). All rolls (weapon attacks, spells, chants etc.) that can critically hit will work.

  13. Not in Bakhmut but across the entire front. Not sure how Kirby managed to create such confusion. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/04/30/russia-ukraine-war-news-2/ Looks like someone did ask about Ukrainian dead. Nice of him to respect Ukrainian privacy. "He declined to discuss Ukrainian casualties. “That’s up to them to speak to,” he said."

  14. It would be prudent to be cautious about this, though, because as the story itself makes clear this resolution was not about the Ukraine war and was, rather about relations between the UN and Europe. I suspect that for countries like China, India, and Brazil, this was a quid pro quo of "we'll support a resolution promoting UN-Europe cooperation in return for similar UN resolutions on Asia/Latin America."

  15. I think you have slightly too much chanter stuff and not enough ranger. I mean you don't need much else on ranger side, but I'd take protective companion -> stalker's link (+10 accuracy, companion can engage more), mainly those two, also concussive tranquilizer unless you have party members already who can shutdown enemy buffs. Superior Camouflage is nice but not a must pick for back row rangers. If your tanks do their job you shouldn't be getting targeted all that much anyway. I usually still take it but I'd rather have stalker's link. Your chanter picks are mostly fine, but keep in mind you probably don't need that many in general as it is easy to respec for various fights. And you may want ancient memory. Can chant ancient memory + sure-handed ila with brisk recitation off and troubadour has enough linger to benefit from both. Could call that chant A, then have a chant B for sure-handed ila + mith fir, chant C for ancient memory + tongues, chant D for many lives (just for example). In a full party you may not need many lives, but if you don't have enough tanks it is super useful. Also very useful to paladins who get back resources when party members die, including the skellies. So if you had SC paladin pallegina that would be a good reason to chant it. Instruments of death are by far the best summons in 90% of situations, usually the only one I have by l20, unless it's a specific fight like Hauani O Whe who is weak to fire then I'd respec and take the wurms (gernisc). Sometimes the wisps are good too. If you didn't take many lives you might prefer mercy and kindness which greatly boosts party healing. Not sure about frostseeker but based on how energized works anything that crits should cause an interrupt.

  16. Thanks for all your helpful advice, @Boeroer, @thelee, @Shai Hulud! I actually tried AA/Troubadour, got to lvl 11 or so, and this build absolutely slaps in terms of constant interrupts, usefulness to the team, damage, and I haven't even gotten to the energized invocation yet... With acina's tricorn, Maja's armor, gunner, and Sure-handed Ila reloading is pretty much a non-issue. So far it has been able to consistently bully bosses. The only tiny downside is the knockback from the Spearcaster which can sometimes make it difficult to consistently target far enemies. So far I went with these abilities: Marked prey > Hel Hyraf / Come,come... Resilient Companion Vicious Companion Marksman > One dozen... Two-handed style Gunner Marked for the Hunt > Sure-handed Ila... Ben Fidel Killers Froze... Evasive roll > Mith Fyr Thick grew their tongues... The shield cracks Driving flight > Ben Fidel's neck... Seven Men... Uncanny luck(?) Survival of the fittest > Their champion... Improved Critical Fampyr's Gaze Superior camouflage(?) > Instruments of death (?) Many lives...(?) I haven't completed the build yet, and not sure what will work best toward the later levels. I would really like to fit "the bride" invocation and possibly the upgrade (as recommended by @thelee and @Shai Hulud), and I'm considering replacing uncanny luck and/or the last two chanter abilities. Instruments and many lives... are both excellent summoning abilities that I usually take on all my chanters, so I'm not sure. I also play with the community patch that buffs uncanny luck somewhat to make it at least worth considering. The affliction resistance chants have been very useful so far, especially in combination with brisk recitation, as @Boeroer suggested, and I will definitely keep them as they add a lot of utility to the char. I wonder also, what would be the most efficient chant setup though - so far I have sure-handed Ila + mith fyr as a damage + reload speed and a separate song for each resistance chant, so I can turn them on with brisk recitation if needed. Finally, I plan to add dragon's dowry and frostseeker as two alternative weapons to the build. Frostseeker doesn't benefit as much from the sure-handed Ila chant, but it is such a nice weapon to use with AA, and I assume its AOE also can interrupt with energized?

  17. In the 1920s and 1930s, plenty of people from America (and other places, too, of course) either visited or went to live in the Soviet Union in search of a new kind of paradise. It turned out to be an unintentional experiment in self-deception and disillusion: while some were utterly horrified by what they saw, others were unable to let go of the idea of utopia, because (apparently) that would have represented a much too painful shattering of a world-view, or something. The book EIMI by the American poet e e cummings is hard to read[*], but it works very well as a description of the misguided idealism of the time, and the breaking down of it, in cummings' own case. There is not going to be a repeat of this phenomenon: idealistic Americans and Europeans will not flock into Putin's Russia in search of a better world, at least not in any numbers worth mentioning. [*] I believe it's precisely this book and cummings' idiosyncratic spelling and punctuation that Ayn Rand tries to parody in either The Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged, unfortunately I can't remember which one. But it's a hopeless parody: she doesn't have the skills for that at all -- I believe it's safe to say that nothing related to humour was anywhere near her forte.

  18. Think I did 8/3/11/18/18/19, with berath 10/5/13/20/20/21. Also tried dumping resolve and putting more in mig / dex / con but the high resolve build works better soloing. Was surprisingly tanky for a guy that has 3 CON, no healing, and no class armor bonuses. I mean, not tanky compared to actual tanks like arcane knights or votaries, but in the right circumstances can be pretty untouchable vs normal enemies. The form phantasmic effects stacking can give you absurdly high deflection for a while. If you have a priest with salvation of time they could extend your form phantasmic procs as well as trickster buffs. Seems like a lot of builds come together around L13, which is conveniently about the level I am when I leave Neketaka and have to start fighting things. Have fun EDIT: Did you know least unstable coil procs multiple times for blunderbuss shots with empowered abilities like gouging strike? Presumably also weyc items but I just tried the coil, I opened combat firing the hand mortars gouging strike and procced all 6 tier 3s. They last about 20s without extension which is still pretty good. Combine with ajamuut's stalking cloak and you can have quite an opening attack.

  19. First you export a character who has sasha's singing scimitar (it's under character sheet, export tab). Then in another game you can hire that character as an adventurer at inns, which includes whatever equipment they had I guess. I've never actually imported characters but I understand this is how it works. ----- I am curious about this build though. Let me see if I understand this correctly... corrupted beauty has pulses every 3 seconds, and it's extendable via draining/SOT/SOF? empowered avenging storm procs all the weyc stuff + least unstable coil every time a bolt hits? corrupted beauty causes avenging storm to proc? avenging storm is also extendable? Is this right @Constentin Lévine And what is the druid trick? I looked through some of your recent posts but didn't see it

  25. Yes with a trickster / ghost heart. I maxed resolve (also PER and INT) and dumped CON so it was kind of weird stat spread but it works in that fight since they mostly target deflection. It's a fight in SSS, one of the bonus fights where you have to fetch something to unlock it and you are rewarded with the changeling mantle armor. You have to do slayers path then find the item and give it to that guy who says "watcher I have a thing you may find interesting" Tactical ogres is a pretty difficult fight on upscaled POTD with like 12 level 22 ogres I think, but it is easier than soloing trial of the naga, that one I couldn't do with assassin / ghost heart. I don't think I could solo it with the trickster / ghost heart either though I used different stat spreads. Trial of the Naga has too many diverse attacks targeting different defenses so it is very hard to solo, near megaboss difficulty. From my brief testing I think trickster / ghost heart would do fine in a party (probably both would) and can tank a little if you build for deflection, but can't be a main tank. Also yes shrouded strike is the other enchant for eye of wael (its other choice is lidless gaze which is a 1 per rest attack) and it is 10% to proc a random affliction. The duration lasts pretty long with high INT, can get paralyze or charm for like 15+ s) So eye of wael overall has Obfuscation- 10% invis on crit Shrouded strike - 10% random affliction on crit Illusive spell - 5% random illusion spell on hit You should mostly crit with the right gear and tactics, and get a lot of double crits with crowds from driving flight, between the three effects you proc one of them quite often, maybe around 40% of attacks. Stalkers Link is also really good, with high accuracy you proc mercy strike about 49% of the time (including triple quadruple etc strikes) and can get really good damage from that plus wounding / mortal wounds raw DOT) Could build around either weapon, the combo should be interesting

  26. I think I'm going to do an Andy Sidaris-a-thon. I don't think I'm going to watch all... 11? 12? Of his so called "Girls With Guns" movies, but I'm definitely watching the first 4: Malibu Express, Hard Ticket To Hawaii, Picasso Trigger, and Savage Beach. His movies feature lots of gratuitous boobs and butts, terrible acting, cheesy lighthearted action, tongue in cheek dialogue, and absurd moments, but they are well shot. Andy Sidaris was an Emmy Award winning director for his coverage of the Olympics. Fun fact: That shot is sports coverage where the camera finds a cheerleader or an attractive lady in the crowd and zooms in tight on her (colloquially known as the "bimbo shot"), he invented that. Absolute ****ing legend! Anyway, this should be a good time.

  29. I have mixed feelings on the characters in PoE1 vs Deadfire. On the one hand, I agree that diving into their personal history can be very deep and narratively powerful - I was surprised the first time I convinced Durance about Magran. On the other hand, I really stopped caring after a replay, and it was extremely annoying to just be rapidly mashing dialogue responses to get to the point - in hindsight it seems overwrought and over-written. I think I generally value expansive reactivity more than miles-long dialogue trees, given a choice of finite writer's time. PoE1 I remember being pretty quiet when you're wandering around, whereas Deadfire seems more like you have a party, and it was a treat to get new reactivity with new DLC and also get Vela reactivity.

  35. I personally think that you should totally add earwigs/pincher bugs, depending on what you call them. I think it would be pretty cool if there was like a colony (main spawn location) of them inside or around a hose or vegetable garden. But to be completely honest, I don’t know what any of these would be good for, possibly just new weapons/armor there could also be a new Boss like a king or queen pincher bug. I don’t see how this would work very well, though considering that they don’t exist. I think a new sword made from its pinchers would be cool. Possibly looking like a curved great sword from elden ring, or a long bow again made from the pinchers. I think armor would be cool, like a Viking helmet with the pinchers as horns. that’s pretty much all I have to say about this.Thank you for reading my concept.

I'm playing on singleplayer on game pass though, so it seems to be a bug across the board.

  42. My Concepts/Ideas This is my list of various concepts and ideas that I have recently thought of, hopefully inspiring anyone reading to also come up with new concepts or even variations of these ones, which I would very much like to see. Hopefully seeing in the future one or some of these insects being considered by the Obsidian Team, though I do believe some insects that I will be adding onto the list are already in the Obsidian Teams list of bugs to implement. Overtime I will add additional concepts onto my list, each one with an image to go along with it. But for now I hope you enjoy what is currently here and perhaps use it to inspire yourself with new ideas for Grounded. (Also I realise that not all of the images are very accurate to being within the game, but they are just concepts and drawn by hand so I apologise for any errors I made in my pictures. (especially the ones with webs in them) The Devil's Coach Horse Beetle Names: Devil's Coach-Horse Beetle (Longer name) Rove Beetle (Shorter name) Night Terror (Nickname for Boss like 'Mother Demon') Type: Boss Tier: Level 4 and Above Attitude: Aggressive Location: Inside of Giant Log Underneath Stone Slab Within a Compost Heap Spawn Condition: Night Time Only boss spawn, would require boss item to initiate boss fight. Far away from staring area, all bosses should be located away from new or low-tier players. If not then very well hidden or unlocked after completing certain chips or in-game story events. Locations: Inside of Giant Log, the giant log could act as a spawn location for the new boss the 'Night Terror' it would be a largely expansive hollow log filled with resources and mainly various insects that prefer moist environments like larvae, grubs and even various spiders. It could also be home to some new insects yet to be made and various materials like moss and mushrooms. During the Night though, this area will act as the boss arena for the Night Terror aka the Devil's Coach-Horse. Underneath Stone Slab, the stone slab could be one of many slabs located on the stone wall side of the garden, having one particular slab contain a burrow which will lead to a expansive air pocket underneath the slab which would act as the Night Terror's den, being full of stone, quartz, various grub like insects and perhaps some new materials too. Within a Compost Heap, this compost heap could be a new location found in one of the corners of the garden, being full of high tier resources and insects purposefully placed far from new and low tier players to prevent them from encountering the tougher insects too soon. The Night Terror boss would be located at the deepest part of the compost. The compost would be full of all kinds of insects, many resources, mainly being rotting organic matter. The Boss Room of the Night Terror would be very large and upon entering its purpose is instantly recognised due to the graveyard of insect pieces. Although the boss itself will require a specific item to summon or lure out of hibernation. Abilities: The Devil's Coach-Horse itself is filled to the brim with weapons, other than being a complete beast and resembling the appearance of a black soldier ant who drank every smoothie in the game. It is also widely viewed as one of the most savage insects commonly found in most global gardens. Being about 20-32mm in size (real-life) and the adverage wolf spider being 10-35mm (real-life), helps provide the kind of size and strength this thing can handle. Its main diet revolves mainly around a range of invertebrates, including worms, slugs, moths, spiders and woodlice (rollypollys). During its attack you can also tell from its scorpion like posture that it is enraged, but I think the red glowing eyes is a bit of a give away. This insect was built to fight. First of all, its armour is pratically impenetrable. This could make for quite an interesting AI, forcing the player to either knock over the insect by perfect blocking one of its charged attacks to give the player a limited amount of time to inflict some damage before it flips back up the right way. Or any kind of punctering or stabbing weapon could also deal damage through its armour causing players to prepare for this boss fight ahead of time. Another way would be just an excuse to make this insect have an insane amount of health. It also has two massive pincer-like mandibles which considering can cause pain to normal sized human beings may cause quite a high amount of damage to someone the size they are in Grounded, but of course blocking will help prevent these powerful bites. I would also recommend wearing full tier 3 or above armour that has also been upgraded by quite a moderate amount, that way you can be sure that you wont die in the first 3 hits. The insect itself is also a close relative to bombardier and that similarity can be seen through the pair of white glands located at the end of its abdomen, these glands produce a foul-smelling odour or to someone about 14mm in size would be like breathing toxic gas. They are also equipped with a pair of wings, though very rarely used could allow the Night Terror to get to players too far away from it (though this should not occur if placed within a boss arena) or could play as a second stage to the boss fight itself. They are also incredibly fast and can catch up to the adverage player similar to how a wolf spider can, but they cannot jump and instead must use their surroundings to find another way up, this could be used in the boss arena itself making paths for players to run away temporarily as the Night Terror runs up the longer pathways to get to where you are going, but without allowing the players to cheese the insect in battle. Drops and Items: Its drops would be basic in nature, closely resembling a mixture of bombardier and ant parts. Night Terror Part Night Terror Mandibles Night Terror Glands The parts could be used in an assortment of different ways. Night Terror Armour - Could Include 'Night Terror Visor', allowing wearing to have slight night-vision on equip, this is due to the Night Terror's nocturnal characteristics and its night-vision-like sight. The rest of the pieces are optional but full sets are always better in my opinion and could be based souley around night time exploration or purely defensive, especially against toxins. New Weapon and Shield - Could include a Night Terror Sword (one-handed) and a Night Terror Shield, the shield being able to negate 50% of incoming damage and the sword being both one handed, fast and very damaging mixed with a new effect called Terror Toxin which acts like a more potent poison effect. Night Terror Glands could be used for various objects or even structures such as: New building piece for warding away faciton-reactivity attacks and allow players to protect their most important bases, of course wearing out after about 1-3 uses and also costing very expensive materials, this prevents attacks due to the foul odour it produces which most insects even spiders are disgusted of. A new grenade type weapon used to cause massive toxic gas, filled with Terror Toxin which deals increasing damage to all organic insects. (except weevils and infected insects) Could even be used a new type of upgrade which can be added to high tier weaponary adding the Terror Toxin effect to the weapon similar to that of the Night Terror Sword. This would require a fully upgraded weapon before hand. (which would most likely be required to defeat the Night Terror anyway) Additional Information: I'm aware that the Devil's Coach-Horse Beetle and Rove Beetle are not the same insect but in context of the game they would be very similar which is why I have listed them together as this one boss, personally it should be based mainly one the Devil's Coach-Horse Beetle as they are larger and more vicious in nature. But they are similar enough to be tweaked slightly and be almost the same in most other attributes except some minor appearance differences.
