Did my first, tentative rides on my new bicycle last night. Good thing it was late at night and I had the road for myself. I needed the entire width of the road for the first few hundred meters Mind you, the only bicycle I've been riding since 2003 is an exercise bike (and a several years of motorcycle riding, which is very different)3 points

Yep, it most definitely can be that bad*. Though most of the reviews aren't as critical as that one there does seem to be a general theme that it's high on great visuals** but low on everything else. *think I've said it here before, but its production had an awful reputation here. You can usually find people willing to praise even 'bad' products that were made here- eg Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell- as being 'nice places to work' or 'trying hard' or whatever; but I don't think I've seen anything beyond the most basic 'gave people jobs' type 'praise' for RoP. All the rumours very much suggest that the showrunners thought they weren't just better than Peter Jackson, but better than Tolkien too. **though from the trailer it looks to me to suffer badly from 'Wheel of Time' syndrome; nice scenery, but everything looks like it's never been lived in. Under the Skin (2013), a weird art house film singularly starring Scarlett Johansson, was described to me by a friend as being the slowest and most boringest film they'd seen in years. The way they talked about it, it sounded like another Memoria that would deliberately waste your time looking at, feeling, and experiencing nothing. I've never cared for Scarlett Johansson as an actress, weird art house films are pretty hit and miss with me, and I normally trust this friend's opinion...so why the heck would I ever watch it? I'm not entirely sure, but I did anyways. Unfortunately, it looks like I rather enjoyed a Scarlett Johansson film, and a pretty bizarre and very theme-heavy one at that. Whoops. Eh, just goes to show you that you can't always trust even the people you trust...or even yourself, . (e): Actually, it was probably the poster that convinced me to at least give it 5 minutes, really (and boy, I was very prepared to quickly quit the movie if it wasn't working for me). I'm a terrible sucker for striking posters.2 points

I, too, am not a fan of evil, I only always run with Edwin, Korgan, Dorn and Viconia because I like them as professionals of their respectful fields. As for gnomes, I prefer both Jansen and Jubilost from Kingmaker to mini Hauptsturmfuhrer, but he's alright too. Nice damage with that bugged axiomatic hammer and voice so cool your brain doesn't even register all the stupid fascist tripe he's spouting. But now when I think, I don't really have a favourite companion in Wrath, they all are just kind of fifty shades of meh. Anyway, there is a patch with long-ass list of fixes too and people have been datamining Expanded Edition stuff. Seems like there's going to be moar ending slides among other things, also2 points

I recruited Regill... After Jan Jansen, I never thought I would suffer a Gnome in my party. Nenio is allowed to remain at the moment, since she lost her Gnomishnes. Regill is allowed to stay because I like his attitude. He's everything you would not associate with a Gnome2 points
-
The lawful requirement is only annoying in the game because 'lawful' in WotR is basically roleplaying a rigid, fascist law and order guy, and you have to pick some of the lawful options to stay lawful. Now that I think about it, @BruceVC should love playing an Aeon.2 points

With Amazon's track record and after The Wheel of Time, do you even have to ask? The trailers sure looked terrible, and I half broke my brain trying to figure out when whatever was depicted is happening in the timeline, only to then notice that it never did, it's just fan fiction because spending a billion dollars on a TV show apparently doesn't buy one the right to all of Tolkien's world building. Baffling, really. I, of course, will be watching the series, but I'm sure confirmation bias will strike again and it will be as terrible as I expect it to be, even if it for some reason ends up being decent (like that second episode of House of the Dragon, that was fine, really). edit: Ninja'ed by @Hurlshot or @Hurlshort or whatever is going on with his user names, on account of verbosity. Sigh.1 point

Josh Sawyer mentioned he had been griping about the marketing for a game he worked on. He obviously didn't specify which game, but I have to imagine it's Deadfire, right? There's evidence of the marketing guy getting fired/not having contract renewed. There's also the fact that the Steam page/ultimate edition now completely downplays ship imagery (whereas the backer mouse pad I have reflects the imagery they were going for originally, which is high seas fantasy). And, like you say, I learned about Tyranny through promotions and such and I can still recall the highly stylized art in the promos, whereas I backed Deadfire and barely saw anything about it.1 point
-
is the problem we got with regill, 'cause as much as we would like to have him in a party beyond his companion quests, am almost invariably diminishing our party efficacy by bringing him along. is not that regill is weak or useless, but there are gonna be better options. HA! Good Fun!1 point
-
Exactly. Especially all those games that were reviewed less favorably. I agree though that being part of a big IP such as D&D/Pathfinder etc. will help a game even if it's not as good or if the marketing campaign sucked - just because the IP in itself is a big publicity factor nd also a factor for customer (player) loyalty. So if you launch a game with a rel. fresh IP (Eora) on an unknown crowdfunding platform (fig.co), use a rel. niche gaming mode which is rel. unpopular atm (RTwP), choose an unorthodox setting ("Pirates, arrr!"), drop the ball with marketing (saw a ton of Tyranny ads everywhere - but nothing much outside of Twitter for Deadfire), have no multiplayer (which draws significant audience to titles like D:OS) - I just assume it's enough individual reasons to let a game not sell well. Add increased competition (also in terms of price) and maybe a little bit of saturation for nostalgia-fed games and the game might indeed tank at release. And all of those points don't require to actually buy and play the game in order to take effect. They prevent you from buying the game just like that.1 point
-
Yeah, I can't think of many scenarios where I'd have Regill in the party outside of doing his quests, but the same is true for many of the companions. Probably all of them except Ember and Lann (whenever he fits into the party as Sacred Huntmaster). You win some, you lose some. Can now take the spells, but you can no longer take feats out of order/without prereqs. So no more Loremaster for Improved Improved Improved... Critical. Well, without playing a Trickster - with a Trickster MC you can improve Ember's ray crit range to ludicrous levels because picking up the regular Improved Critical via Rogue Trick works.1 point

Hello, I'm on PC and steam, the game cannot log with my xbox account. And fails without information on the cause. Tapping F1 or after the first loggin attempt, it revert to offline Hence I can't play multiplayer, whish is the reason why I bought the game. Could you help me please? I created a new Xbox account at the first install, because I forgot that I had one. Hence there may be a conflict with the two account. But I can't log out. After re-installing the game, deleting local files (saves and configs in appData) it is always the same account that the game use. Also I noticed that going into solo, starting a new game, then going back to main menu show the Nickname of the account instead of "OfflineUser". But multiplayer still sees me as log out. Here is a list of fix I tried and found on internet (I may forget some) : - Xbox Networing repare (launching the app always show Teredo as blocked and NAT type as not eligible, reparing it works, the game still not work) - Reparing the game's installation do not show error - Various Teredo fixes, through shells, regedit, services.msc... All seems to work - Ipv6 ping to myself works - Network drivers updated - Antivirus and firewall exclusion or deactivation - Various NAT port forwarding on my router - Ip Helper service is running correctly - Other VPN closed - Checked the hostname file Internet is not finding new solutions, hence here I am1 point

won't happen for the bank either. a single bad loan by a mega bank does not result in auto government forgiveness. however, you are correct that big banks and auto makers and any number o' too big to fail enterprises exist. sorry, but that is the stark reality o' the situation and is indeed not fair. if OMNI bank and a similar half dozen banks were to go t!ts up, near all americans would suffer. hurl goes under and is only hurl and his family which suffers. regardless, the single loan scenario is not doing you or hurl favours. HA! Good Fun!1 point

I keep wondering, idly, how certain companies (not just recently but for decades, ofc) are avoiding monopoly and anti-trust concerns. I'd assume a whole lot of loopholes, and the "but there is still/can be free competition" mantras even when any minor competition is almost just lip service at some point. Not that I'm a lawyer ... fine line between (US) capitalism and monopolies I guess. Whatever. ...I should probably stop watching Netflix "hey this company sucks" business documentaries.1 point
-
but it ain't massively profitable for the bank if we accept your description. assume you got one million dollars to invest. chances are you can do better than 4% return. so what is the motivation for a bank to lend to hurl and other homeowners if they may invest that money elsewhere for better return? bruce may be a less than ideal representative o' the western capitalist pov, but am thinking some folks ain't being complete fair. US banks is in the business o' making money. *shock* sure, more than a few lenders indulge in predatory schemes and banks such as wells fargo were active indulging the worst used car salesman approach to many o' their accounts. here in the US we had more bank regulation, right up until bill clinton. george bush (43) tried to claw back some o' the regulatory oversight power o' the fed which clinton surrendered and his own party turned on him... which no doubt would feed into @Guard Dogand his they are all bad narrative. regardless, for all the terrible stuff banks do, your example is so not a great illustration o' such evils. for the most part banks ain't hiding their lending scheme for home owners and is not as if they is forcing other credit products on you when you take out a mortgage. thanks in part to minimal bank regulations (damned socialists) you may get a home loan on your personal residence at a noticeable better rate than you would for investment property or business, so in and of itself, the banks ain't making massive profits on the loans... which is exact what is the reason banks did all kinda stoopid in the early and mid 2000s to turn minimal profitable loans into larger profits... same kinda stoopid banks is doing yet again in 2022 btw. if hurl can do better with a $1 million dollar investment, why should the bank be prevented from doing so? am agreeing there is many systemic obstacles to home ownership which ain't fair, obstacles which is predictable resulting in increasing income disparity and decreases in home ownership for each new generation. it isn't fair. however, what hurl describes ain't the problem. HA! Good Fun!1 point

Arkhanhelske still officially unconfirmed, but based on the reports about the placement of DPR units during the last month, these two rumours might connect to each other. Some sources claimed also Vysokopillia as liberated, which is another Russian stronghold in northern Kherson Oblast, but we already heard rumours of 1200 surrounded Russians in that city. In this area only Olhyne was officially confirmed by UA army as liberated.1 point

Not sure we are talking about the same door here: 1st door you have to blast open with explosives 2nd door (right behind the first) you need the hand scanner 3rd door you have to pull a lever in a control room to remoteley unlock the door (you can watch the area via camera system) and you have to swim a little bit to reach the door. The 3rd one is what is broken for us. The marker above the door is still lit green (as in unlocked), the lever cannot be activated, but the door still doesn't open. Also we cannot reach the bugs inside... for obvious reaons1 point

new dlc today, but more significant for those playing wotr for the first time, https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1184370?emclan=103582791469275223&emgid=3225161106688762145 is substantial changes, but have not read in entirety. we did notice one curiosity: "All animal companions with horns and tusks finally recalled they shouldn't bite, and started using their horns at full capacity. All animal companions with gore now perform a free trip attack with gore;" so, boar, elk, mastodon and triceratops now get free trip? hmmm. "Weapon Finesse (Mythic) will work with the finesse weapons only from now on." doesn't affect Gromnir, but am suspecting howls o' anguish from a few people. HA! Good Fun! ps "Feyspeaker druid finally got some new DLC spells in their repertoire" which is likely interesting to nobody but Gromnir, but am gonna need see what were changed. charisma casting druid were all borked and the shadow spell dcs were busted since beta, though potential more effective previous to one o' the post release patches. have wanted to play a gnome feyspeaker druid since release, but...1 point

Melee is mostly useful for 1 hit weapon modals to lower enemy defenses (primary flail to lower reflex before soul shock/her revenge/thunder rolled, club if you need to lower enemy resolve but Psychovampiric Shield (+ Borrowed Instinct when available) is usually enough to do it safely from distance. Same with morningstar modal, often secret horrors is enough. Pike modal can be useful with high deflection enemies when Psychovampiric Shield is not enough. Sabre modal is good when you have GraveCalling to more easily 1 hit-kill for chillfog your chanted skeletons. Not using melee much is good for Abydon challenge too. Thick grew their tongues chant + crossbow modal is not bad until you can get effort hemorragic to use with e.g. mind blades Most damage (apart special weapon power attacks like e.g. the kitchen stove one) should come from summons + echo spells targeted on them (e.g. nearly all-game-good cheap soul shock), Her revenge is mostly useful as finisher attack/to trigger specials like least unstable coil, monastic unarmed training fists can be of use but for most of the game the most important thing is to keep your summons always up and stay safe spamming spells while you get focus/chants in the backline. Later you can use amplified wave on summons/screaming souls on skeletons, thick grew their tongues chant + mind blades + secret horrors + effort hemorragic for interrupt feast For tough nuts, especially at low level, use pain link on summons, get disengage attacks on them if possible (always disable AI and fine control your summons to get the most from them), summons are your never ending primary resource/battlefield control tool so you can use them even as kamikaze on bosses. When summons are not enough to block enemies, The Thunder Rolled (stun) + Mental binding (paralyze) should be your fast/cheap always ready control tools. Not to mention Puppet Master, fast, long range, can bypass 1 level resistance, can turn relatively tough enemies (e.g. fire naga warriors) into allies... [EDIT] also engoliero on chanted skeletons is nearly as fun as grave calling if you manage to get it1 point

I have a suspicion I'm going to play through this game more than once (like several times over), so I'll follow quite a bit of advice on the first time through, but stick to original theme of a strong, strong willed barbarian looking for a good scrap, wine and women. Leaving out silly altruism and pointless cruelty. I killed some Inquisitor guy earlier (I didn't like his attitude, so I separated the left half of his brain from the right half, not that he was really using either half anyway), so a pair of acolytes of Desna joined me in the Gray Citadel fight. I'm sure I was supposed to recruit more factions/people (the journal entry looked like it had allocated space for more), but I probably missed some clues along the way. Ah well, next time. Some interesting story twists along the way. Having a *lot* of fun so far. Biggest single player time sink since the old Infinity Engine games! Edit: I went ahead and changed Seelah's build slightly. Gave her a horse. Gave the horse a birthday, a name (Iomedae), the barding feats and weapon focus bite. Seriously... giving it Skill focus (Knowledge Arcana) was an option??? Maybe I should get her horse a spell book too?1 point

"limitless rage" is the obvious first choice for a barbarian, or any other class which relies on rage powhaz... and as kp so indelicate put it, brutality incarnate is linked to the use o' natural weapons such as claws and bite; even if you go the full beast totem route, (which is a good idea for an instinctual warrior/mutation warrior kinda barbarian) we typical wouldn't choose brutality incarnate at any point. on normal difficulty you ain't doomed by taking brutality incarnate, but if you do not respec, then make certain you choose all the beast totem rage powers in addition to animal fury. other mythic powahz we might unsolicited suggest for a great sword wielding barbarian at some point earlyisih is ever ready, myhtic charge, thundering blows, and if you don't go the azata route with life bonding friendship, then last stand is great for mitigating mistakes or if you are playing on higher difficulties. as is @Gorthfirst time playing, mistakes is gonna happen 'cause you do not possess a wealth o' meta-knowledge. seeing as you already took guarded stance and bit of fun, you might also inspect the archmage armour power, 'cause use o' those plentiful potions o' mage armour trigger the archmage armour mythic just as does casting the spell. archmage armour scales nice. early mythic feats which is kinda impossible to ignore for a greatsword haver is power attack (mythic) and improved critical (mythic.) seelah is extreme fast when mounted on a horse. the automatic choice for paladin is weapon bond, and is a perfect acceptable option, but it does mean seelah, particular in tb mode, will be the last invitee arriving at any combat party just so long as you got her in medium or heavy armour... which is likely. side note: fatigue, diseased and cursed is excellent choices for paladin mercies. feel free to ignore any and all Gromnir suggestions, but owlcat and pathfinder make it extreme ez to choose wrong even when something sounds right/good. HA! Good Fun!1 point

Made it to level 6. Freed Grey Garrison and got what looks like a new "home base". As nice as the old tavern was, it was located a bit far away from everything towards the end. Also got a "Mythic Level". Picked 'A Bit of Fun' (seemed appropriate for a Chaotic character with little in the way of armour) and 'Brutality Incarnate' (seemed appropriate for a greatsword wielding Barbarian). I know my spell casters appreciate their own Mirror Image spells and enemy resistances saves them from a lot of damage. My companions are still using their default level up paths, because I don't have the brains at the moment, to try to work out optimal builds for so many classes Got a promotion (Gods save the Queen) and new tasks in for the form of "Crusade missions". Not that I know how to do that, because last thing I did before calling it quits Sunday night, was scratching my head, wondering how to leave camp with no obvious exits or characters left to talk to To be fair, it was 2am and I didn't try very hard (because Monday is a workday and I had to find my bed) Lann is sort of a staple in my party by now, because he's a monster with a bow. The remaining 4 slots get picked on need basis. I like Seelah as a character, but she's so slow it's painful. Yes, I could cast spells on her at the start of the combat, but... argh Camellia is the opposite, often ending up way ahead of the party, fighting unsupported for several rounds Ember and Nenio takes turns being the spell caster and Daeran is my new best friend in hard fights. The amount of healing that guy dishes out is unreal, especially his aoe heals I suppose Finnean counts as a companion too, but the Lilarcor wannabe would be mostly forgotten if it wasn't because he's my characters current greatsword. Woljief... well, his character rubs me the wrong way, gets left out frequently by now. Not sure what to think about Sosiel as I haven't been able to take him anywhere outside camp yet1 point

Herbert Jenkins "The Strange Case of Mr Challoner" from 1921's Malcolm Sage, Detective predated S.S. Van Dine's 20 Rules for Writing Detective Stories essay by 7 years and had the butler as the killer. It is the earliest still known use of the idea; the 1930 book (Mary Roberts Rinehart's The Door) is much better known, so gets erroneously mentioned as this first. The continuing fame of Rinehart, possibly because she was a major seller and continued writing detective fiction into the 1950s is comparatively different from Jenkins, who is probably better known as the guy whose company published the original P. G. Wodehouse books than by his fiction stories (even if three of the Malcolm Sage stories were collected in a 1929 collection of best of detective fiction and Sage was favorably compared at the time to Messrs Holmes and Poirot). EDIT: To be clear, Van Dine's essay basically says using a servant (butler, maid, footman, valet, chauffer) isn't in the spirit of detective fiction (as disgruntled employees killing the person or whatever being too obvious), so doesn't call out Butler's, specifically, either.1 point

Yeah, I don't want to use your experimentations as pointers for BPM nerfs in general, but I do think these 2 should go (also Scordeo's is unconsitent). They don't even need specific combos. I will spare the -1AR crush on Crit though. And BPM nerfs are individually easy to remove anyway. Funny thing that you're conctantly trying to break the game while I'm trying to unbreak it We really sound like cosmologic opponents.1 point

GREAT POST !!! Is there any of them that sounds broken in your opinion ? Maybe these ones, especially with pulstating spells : Sungrazer : Return Orbit (10% chance to recover instantly on scoring hit) is universal Scordeo Edge : Double Strike (5% chance to recover instantly on scoring hit) is universal The later is also a bit weird if it doesn't apply to upgraded versions. Other than that, I would say "Shut up it's magic" (Except Crossbows but BPM and maybe CP already corrected it)1 point
