I see exactly the opposite; it has encouraged material support for Ukraine and has had a significant impact on the ground. Being wishy-washy instead would substantially weaken the West's position against Putin and further encourage his aggression.2 points

The US' so-called "puerile" message encourages Western unity and strengthens the negotiating position vs. Putin. Remember it was Putin that burned that bridge with the territorial grab of the Crimea, an unwarranted invasion, and attacks on Ukranian civilians. There's nothing good about his behavior, and if he burns for it I'll shed no tears.2 points

I guess not but from they way it sounds you are doing a hell of a good job of it.2 points

This is some real moneky's paw ****. Do you remember the Star Wars sequels and the Disney+ series? Imagine they do something like Book of Boba Fett for Tasha Yar's Romulan daughter and contemplate the ruin you have invited. Anyways Norsemen s3 - the prequel. It's more of the same, minus Rufus of Rome.2 points

Oh, I thought the guy on the bus that was just a throwaway stupid reference, given the time difference, or is that something that's coming up? Not finished with the episode yet, just felt like venting. Also wanted to hit Jurati with something for telling Picard that he's a regular Dixon Hill. edit: Picard doesn't tell Guinan his name so it doesn't mess up the timeline that's messed up, but if it is fixed, she'd know Picard, Data and a bunch of others in 1893 from Time's Arrow. Yes, time travel makes for silly contrivances and paradoxes, but this... this is actually dumber than season one's mechanical space Cthulhu.2 points

My daughter actually called me with an update shortly after I posted that. The teacher accepted her apology, but she ended up with 3/14 on the test. That was her score even with the cheating issue, so I assume she has learned that cheating is bad, and she's also not very good at it, so it isn't worth the risk. Ah well, the kid has an A+ in woodshop and is already a better craftsperson than her dad. I'm pretty sure the construction track is the right one for her. She doesn't roll in poop and has decent hygiene. My son, on the other hand...2 points

I spent last night dealing with my daughter's teenage angst. She has been pretty stressed about school. She missed a couple days a week ago and has been trying to make up a bunch of tests. My daughter has dyslexia and often has to put in twice the work and time to be successful in certain subjects. Apparently she got caught cheating on her Biology test. Now she actually has a special learning plan that allows her to use a notecard with vocabulary when taking tests. This is because of the dyslexia, but it doesn't give her the definitions. She was caught using some slides that has both. She doesn't deny it. She took a shortcut. I told her she needs to apologize and we went over how to approach that situation. She has some other issues with the teacher. Apparently she doesn't like the way he uses the word retard. I'm like, is it in a biological setting? I told her I'm not going to get into how this guy teaches, but she is in the wrong in this situation and needs to be humble and apologetic. We will see, she is stubborn. Parenting isn't always easy.2 points

Secretly, the best Star Trek movie. Also, I love the uniforms they use only in this 1 movie. They are so 70s and look so comfy. The uniforms they use from Wrath of Khan onwards look like they suck to wear.2 points

we would be surprised if any reasonable seasoned adult posting on this board has managed to go through life and never have a supervisor/boss who were clear and obvious unqualified for their position due to lack o' common sense and/or ability. have met a few boss types who displayed shocking impulse control issues; if Gromnir had behaved as did these executive types, we never woulda' had a career and we likely woulda' been sent to prison. HA! Good Fun!1 point

And the US bombed a civilian air raid shelter in Baghdad and killed 400+ people- that the DoD incontrovertibly knew was a civilian air raid shelter. Crap happens in war. I bring it up all the time because it's very pertinent to the question of perception vs reality, but the surgical and precise ~1 year liberation of Mosul may well have killed more civilians than the barbaric and indiscriminate ~5 year Battle of Aleppo (governate, not just city) killed civilians and combatants. If the enemy is defending a city nothing is surer than that you will kill civilians, and a lot of them, doesn't matter who you are. There's also the dichotomy of propaganda pretty obviously at work. 1) Russia is running out of arms and supplies. 2) Russia also has so much of both that they can be wasted deliberately targeting puppy orphanages and juice fountains for disabled old people rather than military targets. The second is especially 'funny' when we've heard they've been 'almost out' of things like cruise missiles since week 1 ye they're also accused of deliberately using them on civilians. Yep, if there was no concern for civilians they'd sit back and drop thermobarics on the place. That would definitely be a breach of the Geneva Conventions, but if you really don't care... TOS-1 can fire from well outside any ATGM range, let alone air dropped munitions like FOAB (lol, about as pointless as Tsar Bomba) and friends.1 point

Jesus. How do you get into an executive position without realizing that some stuff does not need to be communicated through email? Like, he could have just sent the last paragraph and it wouldn't have read as terribly.1 point

That's why they bombed the Mariupol Theater with children inside and killed 300 people right? Or I forgot, it was not Russian army, it was Ukrainian nazis... You are even more silly than Lavrov, who is whining like an 3 year old girl...1 point

But it is vain claim you are trying to avoid civilian casualties if you use indirect fire against city full of civilians even if there are troops that defending it against your invading troops. Ability to do more damage against civilians doesn't mean that you are trying to avoid civilian casualties. I mean nuclear powers could always claim that they avoid civilian casualties even when they carpet bomb cities with fire bomb because they didn't use nukes.1 point

Yes, but these areas are being actively defended. And let's be honest - Russians are capable of much worse than they have done so far. The tower was hit shortly before Biden started a speech in Poland. Like previous long-range strike on international volunteers this was likely meant to send a political message.1 point

Considering that Lviv is 1200 km away from Donetsk, it shows that Russia declaration that they will concentrate to liberation of Donbas does not really mean anything That is lie considering that they use artillery and missiles against residential areas in cities that they are sieging . https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-606954651 point

Marx may have been German, but his ideas inspired Vladimir Lenin and the Bolshevik Revolution, which set off the chain of events that, at least in part, have led us to present day events. That said, removing the Karl Marx study room, which I'm assuming means a study group of Marx and his philosophies and not the physical removal of a room or it being renamed, is an idiotic, but all too typical reaction in the times we live in. People like Karl Marx, or Ayn Rand for that matter, should be studied and discussed so that we can pass on what insight we can from their interesting but flawed and potentially dangerous ideas. Sweeping them under the rug doesn't actually do anything positive (quite the opposite, in fact) but creates the illusion of caring on the most shallow, surface, zero brain cell "Russia Bad" level.1 point

I just went to buy some shoes, and everyone speaks Russian, or Ukrainian, not like I can tell the difference. It's bizarre. Like waking up in another country. It's a nice day out, and the refugees are all out shopping for things they left behind.1 point

Once had a teacher who managed to find out that we got a hold of a copy of the upcoming exam and had a couple of days to prepare for it - she came in the with the graded exams, looked at the class and said in a somewhat disappointed tone: "I was told that you had the questions three days in advance and to be honest, I found the quality of your answers wanting even before I realized you had ample time to prepare. Tell me, please, how not a single one of you managed to get an A? Therefore, I have decided to accept what you turned in. Rest assured that I will take better care in the future, you will not be able to copy the questions prior to the exam a second time. Now, the grades are as follows..." Just need to do badly enough even with cheating, might amuse the teachers.1 point

Here are two more superb articles I urge people to read. This first one gives a first-hand account of why the Ukrainians are winning against an on-paper superior Russian force, and also gives amazing details on how the US (and other allied) military needs to evolve to win wars in the contemporary era: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/03/american-volunteer-foreign-fighters-ukraine-russia-war/627604/ This second article is an excellent proposal for what the Ukrainians need now as they go on the offensive against a spent Russian military force: https://thedispatch.com/p/what-ukraine-needs-now?s=r1 point

one o' our dogs will roll in p00p, dead snake or just 'bout anything nightmarish foul. if the dog is off its leash and it notices the source o' evil before Gromnir (a near guarantee as we do not have canine sense o' smell) the pooch will attempt to bathe in the feces, slurry, whatever. if we can't stop our dog from rolling in deer p00p, then what chance would we have o' reasoning with a teenage girl? deer poop is particularly vile in the late summer and early fall when the critters is clear eating considerable blackberries-- the resulting scat becomes a noisome jelly/jam which is curiously water replant. nevertheless am certain our dog issue is a laughable minor nothing compared to the difficulty o' raising a teenage girl. good luck. HA! Good Fun!1 point

Back to Hades. I kinda suck at it with the default weapon and much prefer the gun or spear, but it is something that I find really fun to play. Finished the replay of PoE. It was pretty fun, even though it feels like I exploited some things (namely Priest accuracy stacking) to **** the balance up, but I don't care. Deadfire. Just started, but the music and aesthetics are probably the best out of any party-based RPG I've played.1 point

I think that it really is peak Trek. In many ways Wrath of Khan (the standard best Trek movie by most) works better as a sci-fi movie, but TMP feels more unique and more like Star Trek to me.1 point

I must say that I liked her. She is a refreshing other kind of personality in an RPG. Most of them are just nomal people or have serious issus and a dark personality. Xoti is there on the complete other side. It gives the game a new and rare kind of character that in my opinion fits in good in this world. There is always someone who sees the good and is light hearted like her. But yes, I thik the figure needs some more background and I hope to see her in PoE 3. *crossing fingers intensivly*1 point
