  4. I knew some of them off the top of my head, but I knew there was more so I did a little research as well. Could have probably found more if I'd spent more time on it. India has a reputation - like the US for doing remakes. While I think some of the rationales are true (avoiding subtitles, for example, in the US or for example localizing language, locations and cultural elements for India), its also a way to take a solid story and put some familiar box-office faces in it and do well in the local cinema.

  6. Probably has more to do with the volume of things produced and consumed than anything else. The other voracious market for film is India, and they have loads of remakes, including Kaante/Reservoir Dogs, God Tussi Great Ho/Bruce Almighty, Sakar/The Godfather, Players/The Italian Job, Papi Gudia/Child's Play, Akele Hum Akele Tum/Kramer vs Kramer, The Proposal/The Proposal, Mahakaal/A Nightmare on Elm Street, Bang Bang/Knight and Day, Kabzaa/On the Waterfront, Ek Ajnabee/Man on Fire, Sauda/Indecent Proposal, Ghajini/Memento, Satte Pe Satta/Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. But most movie making countries have dabbled in remakes (either direct or veiled), including things like: China & Hong Kong (A Simple Noodle Story/Blood Simple, Connected/Celular, What Women Want/What Women Want, The Proposal/The Proposal) Japan (Saidoweizu/Sideways, Yurusarezaru Mono/Unforgiven, Ghost: Mouichido Dakishimetai/Ghost) Italy (Stork Day/Groundhog Day) France (The Next/Assault on Precinct 13, The Beat that My Heart Skipped/Fingers) Russia (12/12 Angry Men, The Thirteen/The Lost Patrol, ) UK (Mean Machine/The Longest Yard, Silent Night, Bloody Night: The Homecoming/Silent Night, Bloody Night, The Curse of Frankenstein/Frankenstein (Universal), The Mummy/The Mummy's Tomb & The Mummy's Ghost (Universal)) Nigeria (Masoyiyata Titanic/Titanic)* Turkey (The Man Who Saved the World/Star Wars)* *IIRC both of these incorporate bootleg footage from other films with new footage shot for their VHS and film releases respectively.

  7. is perhaps obvious, but while the video does describe why the dutch killed an unpopular politician, the explanation for why they ate him is a bit... wanting. "because they hated him?" if we gotta provide a grade, am going with a C... maybe a C-. were interesting, and for sake o' argument am assuming is accurate and well researched, so perhaps a passing grade, but we never did get a satisfactory answer to the initial question posed. our conclusion is the video were entertaining but nevertheless lacking. ... we remain perplexed by the eating. maybe if you are dutch the explanation goes w/o saying... which is another level o' disturbing. HA! Good Fun!

  8. As the health system for PoE 2 was changed, I did a "no rest" solo run, where I tried to stack as many bonuses as possible. Bugged bonuses: Zealous Focus: +5 Accuracy -> unsure how I got this, picked this up while questing in Neketaka (while soloing as Non-paladin class) -> Patch 2.0: I haven't picked this up this on my new playthrough, seems to be fixed broken item bonuses: - Duskfall: +1 Penetration when attacking the same target as an ally - Pets: various bonuses, many of these do not get removed -> these do not get removed on unequiping the item Path of the Dawned: +15 Accuracy, +15 All Defenses -> in some encounters (or on the world map) you get this bonus for your character (only if you play on PotD difficulty) -> Patch 2.0: I haven't picked this up this on my new playthrough, seems to be fixed Constant Recovery: health regen -> Patch 2.0: got this on a herald once, but after some time it disappeared ... so its not permanent

Kirk Douglas' idea would have been legendary, had they gone with it -http://www.manlymovie.net/2017/04/how-kirk-douglas-almost-ruined-first.html "The plan to include Kirk Douglas snowballed into something I never expected. He said to me: ‘Here’s what I want. At the very end of the movie I should kill you. The audience sees a cop car driving away and as it disappears into the fog a hand reaches up to the rear view mirror. The camera turns up and we see me. It turns up a bit higher and I’m wearing your headband'”.

  20. Or Lifegiver with a Cipher friend, or with a Potion of Enlightenment... Healing is incredibly powerful in deadfire. It's a matter of playstyle, but I personally consider it a key to victory. That's why I would consider giving Lifegiver -50% healing received while Shifted (And maybe limit the penalty to 180 fixed seconds as I did for Furyshaper)

  21. BPM Wolf Knockdown is 3x encounter Ha ! But in a nutshell, that's also part of the reason why I think keeping the modal 1x encounter isn't too bad. In its current state, a Lifegiver gets +2 Rejuvenation PL, +5 while shifted +2 Water PL if taking the Water/Ice BPM Greater Wildstrike when casting Moonwell. So the most well rounded MC HoT gets +9 PL. It requires a downside
    1 point
  22. I like the modal idea but what you suggest also makes sense i.e. a Druid can spiritshift and stay spiritshifted but they can't just switch back and forth like crazy, it's too taxing. On top of being apparently easier to implement without reworking everything .
    1 point
  23. To be honest, my main concern at low level was not Wildstrike. Yup, it's pretty powerful, but it costs an ability point when those are scarce. 15% lash is good but not that much. The "+5 AR + scaling Cloth armor" is much more concerning. That and the 2 "abilities" per form which are noticeable. Side note : BPM added a +1 PL/+2PL to the corresponding element to Wildstrike/Greater Wildstrike. The bonus isn't that big and add more option to druids. Especially because it is the only way to get +2 PL to Decay/Acid spells. But Deltro's Cage + Lord Dalryn's Voulge is still vastly superior if one wants to buff Relentless Storms & its friends. The 1/encounter modal feels necessary in order to avoid reworking completely the subclasses. It could be limited to Shifter. But that would be a bit harsh for poor shifter. And Lifegiver would require an even bigger rework. Somehow I like the committing aspect of 1/encounter shifting.

  24. The usual weapon scaling would take care of the base dmg, but the Wildstrike lash would be an impactful bonus, yes. Mostly because it's fixed. I don't think it's a big issue but still... Could be solvable with a scaling Wildstrike bonus? I mean Spiritual Weapons (Priest) scale their lashes, Sneak Attack scales with PL. Why not start Wildstrike smaller (like 5%) and add 5% every 2nd character or Power Level or so (just an example, may be too weak... maybe add 3% every PL - stuff like that). I'd prefer Power Level because it would give SC a slight advantage - like Sneak Attack for Rogues. That would also make Greater Wildstrike obsolete in its current form. It could add a secondary effect though. Maybe just weaker ones of those that Wildstrike Frenzy already gives (besides the on-kill-effect). Wildstrike Frenzy could then add more ooph to those things. And why is WS Frenzy not giving a passive action speed bonus? That would be universally useful for casting as well as fighting with weapons - and it says "Frenzy" in the title.

  26. The problem (as far as I see it) is the quality of the camps and the staff... private security is the runt of the litter so to speak. People get abused, killed etc. in the camps. When locals attacked one of the camps, the guards turned tail and left the detainees to be attacked (and killed) by angry local mobs. It's one thing to make it an unattractive option to arrive illegally, it's another to cause the death of people.

  27. Honestly I'd never heard that specific requirement to qualify as a 'concentration camp'. It seems kinda dumb and arbitrary. Nazi death camps probably followed German law at the time. I remember reading at some point that it was the Nazis who referred to theirs as 'concentration camps', to conceal the fact that they were frequently death camps. I would've just used the criteria, "Are they cramming a bunch of people into an uncomfortably small living space? Cool that's a high concentration of people, hence 'concentration camp'." That said I'm not aware that, generally speaking, any of the inmates of these detention centres have been charged with anything, so the rest of the definition that Dan Stone has offered seems to fit. A later definition offered in that same article is, "A camp where persons are confined, usually without hearings and typically under harsh conditions, often as a result of their membership in a group which the government has identified as dangerous or undesirable." Yep, they're cramped, they haven't been charged with anything, the conditions are harsh enough that a number of suicide attempts have occurred, the government frequently hides behind the shield of 'they could be terrorists' so the 'identified as dangerous or undesirable' fits. I know some object to the use of the term 'concentration camp' because of the most infamous examples being the Nazi Death Camps, and so it might seem like an 'emotionally charged' term or something like that. I kind of understand that, but on the other hand we have people who have been held without charge for a decade, we have people on our offshore detainment centres in particular who have been physically and sexually abused, we have people who have tried to take their own life because of how bad the situation is, so frankly my position is to use the emotionally charged term, and if someone's issue with the whole situation is that we're using a term that is 'too emotionally charged', immediately stop caring about that person's opinion. EDIT: Side note, politicians on both sides frequently refer to harsh measures taken against refugees as a 'deterrent'. My personal position is that if you see people getting into a leaky boat to escape a horrible situation, and your policy is 'let's treat them badly enough to make people prefer the awful situation they're trying to escape', maybe you're just a wretched human being.

  28. You need to discover a location in Act 3 to be able to do the quest. If you don't, the location you need to get to doesn't show up despite the entry in your journal. There seems to be a quest associated with the Act 3 location in question, but I didn't get it even though I did the standard RPG talk to everyone routine. Maybe because I went Azata and Anyways I just did the Azata Act 5 quest and kicked the bad guy off my lawn.

Orientation was in Lenoir City, TN (next to Knoxville) but my truck was in DeLand,FL (near Orlando), so they got me a rental to make the trip, I loaded the bare essentials I brought with me into the truck, then I got a load from Jacksonville, FL to Piedmont, SC to get me home so that I can load the rest of my stuff into the truck. I got home late last night. Tomorrow I start my regular routine of 5 days on the road then 2 days at home. It's a bit of an adjustment going back to 53' dry van from 43' tanker, but it's a small price to pay to not have to deal with surge (the liquid inside the tank moving) any more.

  33. I'm generally not in favor of shorter games (despite also having all that stuff you mention). I also don't really care for replayability. What I mainly enjoy in cRPGS is a really good story that takes me for a ride. And replayability is not a factor for me because of my emphasis on story: once I know the story, much of the magic is gone, except if the game is really good, I do tend to do another run with different NPCs, if I feel I missed out on something big in that department. I wrote this simply to emphasize what a marvelous success Deadfire was simply as a game. At least some of our interests are quite different, yet we both enjoyed Deadfire an awful lot, it's one of our favorite games ever.

  34. During "Winding Pass" Scripted Interaction, if you choose "My friend here saw it happen", no matter which companion you select, the game will always carry out a "WatcherOnly" Bluff skill check and if you fail, you will always get "Rekke stares at you blankly" line. Attached 2 photos for reference. ^ The choice in question ^ I selected Serafen. But the resulting Bluff check is carried out as Watcher check(Avaritica is my Watcher's name). The check failed and the displayed message is bugged(As you can see, I don't even have Rekke in the party). Related bug report. From what I saw in the code, the original intention probably is that if you select "Rekke" to carry out check before he learn Aedyran, it will always fail no matter how high his bluff skill is. However, they messed up the script and is now bugged. This overly specific mod fix this. (Overwrite it to Pillars of Eternity II Deadfire\PillarsOfEternityII_Data\exported\design\conversations\re_scripted_interactions) Bug fix

  35. I have some thoughts on this. 1. The crisis will be mitigated by the retirement packages most teachers have to look forward to. It is easy to leave education in the first 5 years, but after that you are walking away from a fairly decent package, depending on the state. It will be important that districts continue to make that attractive. There have been 2 times in my 20 year career where I seriously thought about pivoting, and it was the long term picture that kept me going through the career itch. 2. The crisis is necessary. My salary schedule has barely changed in the last 10 years. I have moved up the ladder, but we are not even keeping up with COLA costs on a yearly basis. Some districts do better than others. But the reality is teachers need to make more money. It is the only surefire way to attract more people to the profession. It needs to be a decent living. My wife and I cannot afford houses on teacher's salaries, despite nearing the top of the salary schedule. When we started our career, it was possible. Teacher salaries were never fantastic to begin with, but they have stagnated while everything else has increased. I could easily go on about this. I also think we should go to a 4-day teaching schedule with the 5th day acting as a flex day. They want us having conferences, teaching social emotional content, and serving on committees, but then they also want us teaching all the educational standards to 180 students 5 days a week. It is exhausting. Every teacher I know enjoys being in the class with the students and teaching. It is the extra stuff that burns people out.

  36. That's why I said that an unusual shape of sale curve is something to consider. But we don't have full data. Poor Josh. He led what I consider a Masterpiece, didn't loose money (we're not speaking about Heaven's Gate or PS:T here) and still suffer from it. In a synthesis, I still believe that something about Marketing / calendar failed completely, but the game was still too good to actually fail.

  37. My own personal theory is that the niche market was saturated when PoE2 came out. (this theory doesn't exclude Marking failure, I pretty much agree with @thelee on that). Old school CRPGs are a niche for rather older players who have tons of things to do other than CRPG. When PoE2 came out, I wasn't done playing PoE1. So I waited a bit. I could buy Disco Elysium and Tyranny only on the last Black Friday simply because I wasn't done with PoE2, despite actually wanting to play them since release (and I won't even be able to play Tyranny soon). It should be emphasized that PoE2 sales weren't so bad. But they were slow. I think the sale temporal curve from PoE2 is rather uncommon. This kind of games have long sale tails, but as far as I understand, PoE2 also had a fat tail even for this kind of game : the later sales were disproportionnaly high compared to initial sales.

  38. Its been a couple of years now but I keep coming back to POE and POE2 Deadfire. I especially enjoy Deadfire and I'm perplexed as to why it wasn't more popular. Eora is a brilliantly fleshed out world with a very real and believable level of story charater and depth. The main plot is subdued and subtle like a good film rather than the typical over the top epic where you are the centre of the universe. While you can smash your way through the main story fairly quickly, the world itself gives great sense of scale, everytime I play it I find some extra lil thing that I missed the previous play through, or interacts differently because of history choices or disposition. Its remarkably rewarding. I like the story book style scripted interactions they create a narritive feel. I also like the ship combat, its fun, simple but fun. Its also different and something that I haven't seen in a iso RPG before. I think its great and for those that don't it has the option to bypass it, so you're not even forced to partake in it if you don't want to. As a principi pirate though I go around raiding every merchant I can find. People hate on it and I just don't get why. Yeah it could have been something more complex or compelling but its a side game not the main event and does that role well. Deadfire stands out in particular because its not the typical fantasy tropes. High fantasy suffers from a lord of the rings obsession. Tolkien was great but the fantasy genre has been so tied up in re-creating it that games are almost an insufferable collection of tired cliches at this point. Deadfire's setting is refreshing. I wish there were more fantasy games set in an age of exploration type world. (Greedfall is another that comes to mind). I get there are some pitfalls with this setting as a lot of the inequalities in the world were born out of the age of colonialism. How is this any different though from the slavery, exploitation and religious oppression of the dark ages where most high fantasy is set. When done well it creates a compelling and conflicted world that Eora has captured beautifully. The factions are all very believable. The idea of a mobile stronghold in the form of your ship is great too and I just wish there were more uncharted islands to find, explore and name. I'd love to see POE 3 but given how POE2 was recieved it probably won't happen and that really bums me out because frankly pillars of eternity 1 and 2 are the best RPG games I've played since BG1, 2 and IWD. I just wanted to post up a thanks for an awesome game and say don't give up on it because I'd love to see more isometric adventures set in the world of Eora.

  39. Useful for anyone who will go for the TCS Achievement when they unlock it. First off, sneaking through the entire first Island is recomended. I recommend minimum stealth 5 before digsite. Hylea's Bounty food will help with this. When u depart from Port Maje island buy 400 Water and 400 Hardtrack and sail around the map collecting the insane amount of exp u get for exploring. I highly recomend u pick beraths blessing for the upgraded sail so that u can outrun anyone who wants to engage your ship. Revealed worldmap is convenient too so u can see enemy ships. I have marked all the locations for the exploring exp on a map for your convenience below: With a decent mechanics skill you can collect loads of exp in a place called "Sandswept Ruins" by disarming traps. Location marked on map below: Sail past Sayuka and pick up the Superb Arqeubus from inside Fleetmaster's Office. It is inside a chest with a lvl 7 lock. There is also a superb warhammer inside the longhouse in a chest with a lvl 13 lock, u can pickpocket the key to the chest with a low sleight of hand check, i got the key with only rank 3 sleight of hand.
