  1. That's fair, but I thought since you have your White Flames dude, keeping everybody healed while the Trickster spams Walls of Many Colors. But this could get messy with your Pull of Eora idea + I understand that you don't want to babysit two Rogues.

  3. Based on rules B and E1, it's only +1 Accuracy per PL and +5% damages per PL. So +5 accuracy and +25% for 5 PL, not +10 and +50%. The PL bonus damages is multiplicative with any additive modifier (such as MIG, weapon bonus, etc). I won't repeat for your list review below. DoT damages and duration should work. Yes, it should work. All weapon attack should get +5% multiplicative bonus per PL. Yes, it works, but +25% only. See above. Or power itself up, it depends on your perspective " but MIG also increase my helaing potential - but Jack, you're a Barbarian / Monk, you don't have a healing potential"

  5. Designer's note : note that Forbidden pie is designed so Corpse Eater will be resistant to all afflictions above 50% due to Unflitching (one of the best barbarian passive by the way, if not one the best defensive passive of the whole game). This isn't new, you can do it with Luminous Lobster / Wael Mojito / Captain Banquet, but yep, it's a specific synergy of the class. Now I do think that there isn't many Class Combination* / Subclass / Single Class / Abilities that still feel too bad with my mod. But you can help it to be tested and name one if you find (and I don't think there are too OP either) (I'm not saying that they aren't bad Subclass Combination. Some are dumb. Hey, Streetfighter / Tactician !)

  7. Reminders : Corpse Eater with BPM : Greatly buffed special food (and also replaced bonus MIG and malus INT by more varied effects) : - Kith Meat : -5 Diplomacy, -15% Damages received, +3 Corpse Eater PL - Corpse Loaf : -3 Diplomacy,+3 Health per 6s, +10 Fortitude, +4 Corpse Eater PL - Forbidden Pie : -3 Diplomacy, +4 Resolve, Mind Affliction Resistance, +5 Corpse Eater PL Not tested during a playthrough yet. Also note Carnage scale with PL, so you get a passive benefit from it. And you still have an edge vs Kiths/Wilders/Beasts cause you can eat the corpses. I would probably go with Dual Wield Heart of Fury. Dazing Shout isn't too bad cause you don't need to cast it often. Dragon Leap has a 6s stun AoE and will get good benefit from PL. Blood Frenzy line might be the best because of the prolonged effect. Mage slayer gains -25% hostile and beneficial effect duration instead of 25% spell resistance. I use mine with Spirit Tornado as only self buff. I like to cast it often because of nearly instant damages + terror anyway. And my fanatic paladin usually heals herself with Dual Wield White Flame FoD, so the malus isn't detrimental for LoH. The hostile effect duration reduction synergizes well with Sacred Immolation (works also for Forbidden Fist)

  8. For SC, I would anyway choose either Black Jacket or Tactician (for Discipline concern and chain upgraded Clear Out Interrupt). Willbreaker + Body Blows then switching to WotEP for clear out spamming is fun. But d*mn, even with Body Blows, ennemies tend to have super high Fortitude in this game !

  10. It was 2 am when I finished it so, I wanted to sleep on it. Without going in to spoilers, the movie held me till the end, I didn't fast forward through any parts which is praise from me. As for if it's bad or good, at one point in the movie it was going in to bad category for me (or at least not good) as it really was just an acid trip and I had no idea what was going on, but then it started opening the plot and even offering explanations (almost as if someone came in and said they need to start explaining things from that point on). I personally liked the ending and I would say even the movie overall. It certainly was and Evangelion experience through and through. I'll spoiler the next part just in case At one point in the move yes, but it started going up after that and ended on a good note for me. I'm happy it's over, was perhaps a tad over-dramatic from me, but I meant it in a positive way and it was simply how I was feeling when the credits rolled in. The only big gripe I have is that I think the subtitles were not good.

  12. Also @Elric Galadi do not take high Con my man. Flat 10 Con with tough is good to go for a Crusader to basically ignore SI self damage. I like SI but as Elric says it’s expensive. I also like what @theleesaid in POE 1 SI was a no brainer, I feel that other than the cost it’s a more interesting pick in POE 2.

  13. This thread has turned into an amazing Paladin thread, my favorite @Boeroer what are your attributes for your shooter Paladin (I think this Renaissance/ Very late medival Paladin is cool).Almost reminds me of our PoE 1 quick switch arbalest Paladins. God tier alpha strike, tanks and a damage dealer once you got SI.

  15. Hello. We'd like to hear any comments and opinions about the topic, since the Corpse Eater has been improved at BPM but I barely found discussion related to this. Due to the cost penalty, the subclass is more fit for SC I assume, but I'm still not sure the SC would be comparable to the other subclass (Mage Slayer is another underwhelming one I think, because of the -25% Beneficial effect duration penalty, so lets compare with either Berserker SC or Furyshaper SC). I'm really wondering how much the PL bonus from his/her special food(s) is worth. Do Barb's abilities get enough advantages from the PL boost in turn for the heavy cost penalty? Lastly, I really appreciate any good/interesting information for either Corpse Eater or Mage Slayer MC build (or even SC build) with BPM!

  16. Yeah, that's what I was thinking... Would have to watch the first however or so many before even being able to watch that one, and it's not like Evangelion is a light watch. Maybe KP has already been keeping up, though? From what I was able to tell, it at least seemed like the characters would likely be more fun than Utena's...and also not, um, "BIG BROTHER!!"-ing it up and such, which should help a lot. Also, I forgot to reply to what you said about Star Wars regarding the prequels and sequels when I meant to. The prequels may be disasters on just about every single level from a technical, casting, storytelling, and character level...but at least they aren't completely exhausting and numbing while having absolutely zero creative pulse, .
    1 point
  17. Yeah. MAJOR Utena vibes right from the start. It doesn't thelp that it quite literally (in a truer sense of the word than usual, even!) begins with the same opening narration as the first Utena episode. Then there's a prince and the general look and feel of the story narration part of the anime, the setting, the surreal look and feel of the backgrounds, everything is so Utena. Except for the character models, these are rather distinct. Ahiru in particular really looks very signature Ikuko Itoh. Kind of. I'm kind of close to finishing the first season, by the way. Yes, it's only called Star Trek, which is why it is often named Star Trek 2009 or Star Trek '09 to distinguish it from the actual Star Trek, although at this point I don't know what that is any more. The Mr. Plinkett Review on it was really disappointing. What do I watch Mr. Plinkett for when he suddenly starts being positive about something. Geez. And positive about that dreck, no less.
    1 point
  18. Because it wasn't bad, it was just...well, am simply not ready for something like that yet. Maybe after completing another show or two. Needs more time after having gone through Utena, in other words - that's all. Just going to spoiler the rest of this since literally all of it only concerns what majestic wrote above. I'd be very shocked if you (...or most anyone else in the mood for what seems like a wacky, fun, heartfelt adventure story) didn't at least like it based off of what I've seen in the first two episodes here.

  19. Yeah, in a data set of successful US nation building efforts consisting of a grand total of two it could be mere coincidence that they were both advanced, while the failures were considerably less so. Could be, but it's way more likely that the two successes weren't randomly advanced while the failures were less advanced. It might be true too that debt trap infrastructure loans are a great idea instead of the aid and grants the two successes received, but again it's far more likely to be the reverse- and that the loans are suggested instead for ideological reasons that have nothing to do with successful nation building. All you can do is look at the data you have, and that says 100% of successful nation building exercises were with already advanced nations. (I do agree that the US government should have been honest about the required costs or just have explicitly not gone in for nation building but to keep the fight offshore- but that isn't what they did, they explicitly went the nation building route. However, frankly, you might as well hope for Dr Manhattan to turn up in Afghanistan as wish for a long term deployment of 600k US soldiers there. If you're going to wish for the impossible, at least wish for the cheap impossibility) There isn't much the US could do except keep troops deployed. The ANA falling apart isn't really surprising, it's just the speed that is. You can't magic in esprit de corps. Having said that, there are obvious elements that the US could have improved on. The Najibullah government lasted years after the soviet withdrawal without significant help, and the Northern Alliance at least held a significant chunk of the country for years; neither were exactly corruption free and neither received massive foreign support (post 1989 for Najibullah, obviously). If there's one thing that really suggests that the US stuffed up it's the diplomatic facet. They can't get the government meaningful support from any of its neighbours which is a death sentence for most practical purposes; and you have former enemies of the Taliban- Iran*, China, Russia- tacitly supporting them now. Any government is going to struggle when all its neighbours want it gone, let alone a weak one. *I actually asked elsewhere about the Iranian militias since there was a prominent Hazara militia in Syria, and it seems they're armed and ready but not fighting the Taliban, and the Taliban aren't fighting them either. There's also been the rather weird phenomenon of the Taliban saying nice things about shia recently.

  20. To be honest I was trying to avoid BM. I don’t dislike them, but I was thinking about something different. Maybe I could try an hybrid, with a monk or fighter. Paladins could be an option, but Magran only allow Bleak Walker or Steel Garrote, and I don’t like them.

  23. You can no more defeat the Taliban militarily than you could the Viet Cong. You would think people had learned the lessons from the 60's and 70's but obviously not. You want to fight a movement that is rooted in a population, you need to either genocide them away (like the English did with the Boers) or win over the population by offering them a notably better life. Building the odd water purification system for a village or a school here or there is not going to cut it. You have to really show them better alternatives worth striving for. So far, it hasn't happened.

  24. [Double Facepalm] Thanks, I somehow missed that. The point about Amra still stands though, but then you're missing out on Body Blows. Maybe you could use Willbreaker + Body Blows once to debuff FORT, then switch to Amra with your SC Fighter? no Devoted then... EDIT: SC Trickster can be a great Tank too, with fantastic CC abilities and DMG.

  25. Serafen is nice as a SC tank. You can't go wrong with Driving Roar SC Barbarian. But this isn't very original. Maybe Dazing Shout instead ? Basically a free win vs everything not resistant to MIG afflictions. Mirke has High CON for a tank and can be SC monk. Safe choice then. I have a Whirling Strikes Stalker right now and she is working fine as a dual tank with her bear. The build isn't based on BPM specific features but I must admit it helps every time Whirling Strikes doesn't feel optimal. I've found a significant number of bugs with Ranger in general (from the not so significant Whirling Strikes PL scaling to the super annoying pets not getting Camouflage/Defensive Bond and of course, the crème de la crème : Hunter's Claw Save/reload stacking). She has high Arcana and History for Giftbearer Cloak and backup use. I tend to specialize the less versatile characters in Arcana (and you'll want High MIG and INT for Whirling Strikes anyway).

  26. Very quick post before I go and complete my morning ritual the usual things I do after getting up, then I'll reply some more. To use the words of a poster* who once had half a forum eating out of "her" hands by pretending to be a pretty anime nerd girl: PLEASE EXTRAPOLATE? So, I guess the question is, why is this on the backburner instead of the abandoned pile? *While "Ms. Goldenbell", otherwise also known as "Rei Ayanami" elsewere, was a fun concept and had me equal parts laughing at the ridiculous posters who didn't even notice that the blonde women "she" posted as pictures of her weren't even featuring same anime cosplayer girl in each, and feeling shame by mere association with the posters who just immediately made her the center of attention, he also registered on other forums with other people's poster names, including mine, and copy/pasted our posts (sometimes with slight alterations) there. Which was decidedly less fun.

  27. I remember the first desert map I think it was, first time I played it I didn't understand Prefects/fire danger and everything was catching on fire. Probably restarted that one several times. Patron updated again, supposedly fixed a storage/production problem or two ... so this time I patched it. Which means, of course ... I have to start over! Not because the patch means you have to. But because ... well, I just must, is all.

  28. I'd have to disagree about women's issues being mission creep, it (in the context of Taliban extremism) was one of the more fundamental reasons given for intervention, behind terrorism. Whether it was practically attainable... look for an easier question to answer, because that one's hard. But if you aren't going to at least try there's not even the pretense of actual nation building going on and the blame for any collapse on western withdrawal shifts more towards nation building having not even been tried instead of having failed. If you wanted to show progress to people to justify continuation one of those measures is women's rights; and it's at least in theory one of the easiest to show progress in too. Just show girls actually going to school: massive improvement. That's also of course one of the things that c/would, longer term, alter the culture to a more receptive one to other western values that would make any further interventions unnecessary, and it is of course a worthy goal in its own right- if your goal is nation building you want 50% of your population to not be uneducated chattel. But that's also a super long term project- as below way more than even 20 years- as you really need a generational shift to educated parents who want all their children to be too. Yes there is, unless we're going to go to extremes in terms of defining cost and what a 'fundamental' difference is. Just for one Germany and Japan already had the vast majority- practically all- of their population educated, with education being culturally valued. In contrast Afghanistan has the vast majority of its population uneducated, and a culture that (largely) does not value education (except, to an extent Koranic studies). That's a monumental difference, and one that can only be changed gradually, on a generational level. Give the Japanese and Germans time and they could have rebuilt their country to a modern level, themselves, with all the teachers, engineers, factories etc supplied domestically- that's what the Marshall Plan less Soviets did, after all. Way easier of course with more outside help, but it's not necessary. You can't throw money at Afghans and have them suddenly educated to German or Japanese (or Bosnian, or Soviet) level though. You need trained teachers who can speak the language(s). You need parents who care and want their children educated. You need a societal structure that values knowledge. You need religious types who don't think science is a tool of shaitan. Or you need a strong state that believes education strengthens their control. Educating their populations and industrialising took the soviets and chinese ~40 years, and that with totalitarianism and a lot of excess baggage. But if you want imposed nation building in Afghanistan that is the reference time frame required, not the ~10 years for Germany and Japan post WW2; and that 40 years is a, hmm, 'best case' scenario for the Afghans where there is a strong national government. Bosnia is also a poor example of nation building, since it's not really 'nation' building. It was already 'advanced' as part of Yugoslavia, certainly compared to Afghanistan. It still has two parallel governments, and ultimate power rests in an externally imposed Bremmer style Vizier who isn't even Bosnian- you'd think that an essential part of being a nation is control of your own country rather than ultimate authority being vested in an EU Gauleiter. Given a free choice the Serbs areas would still join Serbia and the Croats would still join Croatia. If there was a free choice. The 20k surge was also 20k for a single province and on top of those already there, ie ~160k troops in total. Fundamentally we're in agreement on that in any case, not enough initially, not enough in the surge, not enough long term. The fundamental problem with all of this is one of arguing practicalities vs theoretics. Theoretically, the US could have sent 500k troops to Iraq or Afghanistan. Theoretically they could send a million. Theoretically they could stay in Afghanistan for 40 years. But if practically they can't/ couldn't then the theoreticals of it are of merely academic interest.

  29. i haven't done a harbinger, but a streetfighter/skald might be a delicious combination, provided you have a way of reliably triggering heating up (sparkcrackers, diving into trouble, etc.). you get dirty fighting, loads of extra crit damage, and huge crit rate boost from your attack speed, and tons of invocations as a result, which you could use in part to paralyze enemies or the ugpraded frightened invocation and get even more crits. edit: at high levels you could become an interrupt build with the chanter's energized invocation and lots of crits. i would recommend a hearth orlan for the high perception and the hit-to-crit racial bonus. edit 2: confounding strike can help you seriously lower enemy deflection and help get you tons of crits as well.

  30. Episode 1 of Princess Tutu. ...Uh, that's being put on the backburner for now. Not abandoned, definitely going to it out again at some point, but the backburner for the time being. Looks like you don't have to worry about me getting ahead of you on that for the time being, @majestic, . Episodes 1+2 of Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water. Ugh. Unfortunately, this is an instant recommendation for feeling like something between a Ghibli movie and kind of something almost Looney Toons-esque in a way, which may not sound good but is surprisingly great so far, especially with the incredible art style and animation and good dialogue/characters. (...Using some of the same stock sound effects for stuff that literally Spongebob uses, on the other hand, has been inducing a little bit of a Dr. Phil seizure at times.) I didn't realize it before starting to watch it, but apparently Nadia, the titular character, is actually supposed to be black/African, and there's already been some light racist elements making direct reference of that fact (never mind that she's an orphan who was forced into the circus). This seems...a little less Gainax-y than other stuff I've seen, but I guess we'll see what happens. Had the option between an English and Japanese dub, did a lot of switching between them, but it seems as though I have been fully assimilated because I can't help but shake the feeling the Japanese is significantly better even though the English is fine, . A big heap of thanks to Sakura for teaching me how to appreciate Japanese VAing - very cool.

  32. Mmmm I don't like his methods very much. Also, all you need is a few legions and ranged spear throwers, that wall o' towers is excessive, lol. Well, if it works, everyone is different. I was never good at making "pretty" C3 cities tho, only efficient ones. Not that C3 would be easy to prettify, lol. Used to know the exact number of tiles for reservoirs and fountains re: Palace/bathhouse layouts .... other stuff like that. The key is a good general housing block loop design that you can use/repeat in almost any map, both for Palace and non-Palace blocks. That way workers just walk in a square/rectangle and you put a gatehouse at the entrance end of the block to keep them in. IIRC granaries/warehouses don't need to be inside the gatehouse loop because the market ladies that pick up the food can go through them - the gatehouse simply stops the distributor lady or priests or firemen or whatever from wandering off. I think sometimes I would entirely close off the "palace" block (no connected road to the main city) to make it easier but I typically tried to keep it all connected. Something like that anyway. It's been ages. As I recall you only need about eight Palaces for the Prosperity of any scenario (edit - looking at an old save file, it would appear to be only six Luxury Palaces), and almost every single other house can stay at the large casa level, something like that). From one play of that map: Example of a casa-housing block: I'd make a few or more of these + a palace block. Example palace block layouts - I had a basic maxed out concept (the lower image) but I'd constantly adjust it.

  36. I think I'll settle for Scordeo's Edge Trophy + Eccea's Arcane Blaster for my SC Kind Wayfarer. The shooting speed is awesome with Rushed Reload + Opening Barrage and OB also speeds up the rest of my recovery (for everything else - reactivity is important). With RIng of Focused Flame, Ring of the Marksman and Acina's Tricorn + the build-in +10 ACC from FoD I can afford to use Rushed Reload + dual wielding + Two Weapon Style instead of single pistol. I know by using pistols I'll miss the PLs from stuff like Magran's Favor etc. - but I don't really care that much because I will be shooting so fast and Zeal will be endless (chanter in party, don't know yet whether Beckoner or Troubadour). For Shared Flames to be good I need to stand amidst my comrades, too. Also for AI ranged combat is easier to manage since little movement is involved. And I never really leaned into a proper pistol build, so yay... At the highest levels this guy will just shoot until his barrels melt. As backup I have scepters (modal always on bc. self damage gets healed immediately). They are a little slower but have higher ACC and of course the sweet crush damage. If I shoot the non-pierce immune enemies first I'll have some stacks of Opening Barrage that can be used for the scepters, too. Sorry for derailing the thread.

  37. Yes great point, or possibly that AR debuffs like Expose Vulnerabilities or CON Afflictions like Weaken/Enfeeble could soften damage immunities... anything that would feel more like a puzzle to solve and less like "Sorry Priest of Magran, try again". To be fair, in the vast majority of RPGs you can't just specialize in one element type and be victorious against all foes. And usually Fire is the most commonly resisted element because it's the typical go-to for many players. Or sometimes these things are more obviously relevant to the game environment, e.g. go try to specialize in Cold damage in Icewind Dale . Or in the newer Divinity games, Poison that heals undead. But those games don't "force" any character build into having almost only offensive abilities that deal the most commonly resisted damage type, and they often offer tools to circumvent immunities. Last thought on the topic... yes, Deadfire has (too?) many fire-resistant foes, but at the same time, against everybody else it gives you tools to make Fire attacks absolutely bonkers - Ring of Focused Flames + Magran's Favor + Sun & Moon.
