floredon Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 too bad the media didn't give jill stein a chance to make her case. she would most certainly be president right now because everyone is reasonable right?

Hurlshort Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 It was just interesting how quickly Aleppo killed of the slight momentum that Gary Johnson was starting to build, and Stein never really got any attention at all. It was like Trump had plugged in the konami cheat code at the start of his campaign and any damage that would normally take down a candidate was shrugged off. 2
Gorth Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 It was a choice between the Creep and the Creepy, take your pick. Both the Republicans and the Democrats seems to have grossly underestimated peoples resentment against the political "elite" all the way from the first nominations taking place until last night. Similar to the sentiments in Denmark in 1992 when the majority of people rejected the Maastricht treaty with a No result, despite the political elite campaigning for a Yes, Brexit showed (amongst other things) that people don't trust politicians as far as they can throw them, the less they have to say, the better. “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. But meant in general, seems people get amusingly wound up over this stuff. Funny enough this is usually a bad thing as the weight shifts to another part, which can be sucky. Zoraptor Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 (edited) What if I told you Trump under performed when compared to Romney, and it was Clinton that lost the election all by her lonesome. Nearly 12 million less people voting overall than in 2008. Fewer black voters (that one is understandable) and also fewer hispanics voted for Hillary than Obama. More white women voted for Trump. Those were all meant to be Hillary's strengths and the reason they didn't pick Bernie. Barely scraped home in Virginia despite Kaine being from there. Poor- albeit improved just not enough- results in the House/ Senate elections. There really aren't much in the way of positives to be found for the dems at all. They even spent around 2/3 more for each delegate won than Trump did- supposedly stripping funds from down ticket candidates to do so too. It's interesting going through the democratic primary results. In retrospect Bernie winning Michigan and Wisconsin looks like an ignored warning, while Hillary winning in the south looks irrelevant. With any luck it will be the death of Correct The Record and similar. Nothing quite like making sure the enthusiastic supporters you did have got tarred with the brush of your very obvious- and frequently obnoxious- astroturfing campaign. Somehow I doubt it though, the lesson learned will probably see the next democratic candidate having a green frog mascot and heaps of forced memes. Edited November 9, 2016 by Zoraptor
Namutree Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 (edited) What if I told you Trump under performed when compared to Romney, and it was Clinton that lost the election all by her lonesome. What if I told you that Trump's main strategy was to get people NOT to vote for Clinton rather than trying to get people to vote for him. This is why a LOT of his rhetoric was attacking others (hence the bully claim) rather than promoting his ideas (hence lack of substance in most of his rhetoric). Hillary's low turnout was not just due to her being awful; it was Trump's exploiting of the Sander's wound, her pro-war history, ect. Trump won this. Hillary did NOT lose on her own. EDIT: This also why Sanders would have defeated Trump easily. People respected Sanders, and most his serious flaws are complicated (thus hard to attack), or are flaws he shares with Trump (thus the attacks would be ineffective). EDIT 2: Also Trump campaign had way less funds than Romney campaign had. Imagine if Trump had those resources (which he will in 2020). AND republican establishment undermining him (won't be a problem in 2020). Edited November 9, 2016 by Namutree "Good thing I don't heal my characters or they'd be really hurt." PK htiw klaw eriF Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I'll be honest, I'd pretend to be triggered if it got me an extension on an exam or paper. I wonder if Bernie secretly voted for Trump after being shafted so bad during the campaign. Possibly, similarly to how Corbyn may have secretly voted for Brexit because the EU wouldn't like him socialising rail. The most likely scenario is that his supporters didn't vote Clinton, with most staying home if the numbers posted are to be believed. In any case a purge of liberal elements, like Corbyn will do to the Blairites, and the seizure of the Democratic Party by proto-socdems would be hilarious. 1 "Akiva Goldsman and Alex Kurtzman run the 21st century version of MK ULTRA." - majestic "you're a damned filthy lying robot and you deserve to die and burn in hell." - Bartimaeus "Without individual thinking you can't notice the plot holes." - InsaneCommander "Just feed off the suffering of gamers." - Malcador "You are calling my taste crap." -Hurlshort "thankfully it seems like the creators like Hungary less this time around." - Sarex "Don't forget the wakame, dumbass" -Keyrock "Are you trolling or just being inadvertently nonsensical?' -Pidesco "we have already been forced to admit you are at least human" - uuuhhii "I refuse to buy from non-woke businesses" - HoonDing "feral camels are now considered a pest" - Gorth "Melkathi is known to be an overly critical grumpy person" - Melkathi "Oddly enough Sanderson was a lot more direct despite being a Mormon" - Zoraptor "I found it greatly disturbing to scroll through my cartoon's halfing selection of genitalias." - Wormerine "I love cheese despite the pain and carnage." - ShadySands

Valsuelm Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Just to get it right: If you dont have Obamacare and no insurance from your workplace and now you get into some accident and break your hand or whatever... you are pretty much done for, because treatment costs are extremely high? Nope... While the issue of medicine, it's costs, and paying for it can be quite complex, put very simply: There's 'medicaid', 'medicare', charities, your bank account (if you have one), hospital charities, private and community medical funds, your frugal/astute brain (if you have one), etc. to cover/avoid the costs. Just about no one is ever denied emergency medical care, and that was true prior to the government getting involved decades ago as well. 1
Valsuelm Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 What a glorious night. One I'll carry to my grave. Trump, the man so many said had no chance, is now set to be president. First time all of those I bubble voted for won. Alas, Mickey and Minnie Mouse didn't win either of the family court judge openings. Bugs Bunny lost the State senate race. Yosemite Sam lost the race for state judge. And Daffy Duck didn't make it to State Assembly. But my bubble votes won!!! 1
Valsuelm Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 This would mean that white men would even elect Trump in California. I doubt you can explain that with just economy. Looks like a major cultural backlash. No, it just means you have a misconception about California being an overwhelmingly liberal state. In actuality it is a very diverse state that Ronald Reagan came out of. The demographics of California are profoundly different now than they were in 1980.... 1
Valsuelm Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Also, lol at the idea California would leave the US. You don't just let the biggest agriculture provider in the country walk away. There's a very sizable portion of the populace in the U.S. that has been wishing almost daily for the last couple of decades for California to fall into the ocean, like some geologists have promised us. Many of these folks will very happily suffer a spike in veggie prices if need be.

You're referring to the Tip O'Neil Congress passing the bill that Ronald Reagan signed in the 80's that codified and guaranteed patients the right to emergency medical treatment regardless of the ability to pay! Completely unnecessary. Sad! Edited November 10, 2016 by Leferd 1 "Things are funny...are comedic, because they mix the real with the absurd." - Buzz Aldrin."P-O-T-A-T-O-E" - Dan Quayle
