  1. I also adjust the FoV to help with Motion Sickness. Another thing that helped me was spending the money on a 120-144hz monitor, and a graphics card that can get into that fps range. If you can afford it... It helps. The difference of 30fps to getting close to or above 100fps seems to be my sweet spot. Ymmv. Motion sickness and headaches are why I have quit playing console games for the most part. Those low FPS and low FoV really do me in. Frame hitching in any first or third person game will make me woozy almost immediately. So I did my best to eliminate it. Some games are less optimized though.
  2. My only issue with tab highlighting is that some chests/barrels that you can loot require your party to be at a particular angle for it to highlight. So you have to walk around every little corner holding tab down. It is just finicky, but I'll deal.
  3. You could grab a summon or the charm invocation instead of Reny Daret, and swap alchemy with arcane or explosives for some AoE. Arcane will be more versatile with buffs and heals. So id look at it. You could swap something like The Shield Cracks upgrade for Deep Pockets so that you can have 6 quick slots for summons and scrolls. This will make it easier for you to put some bodies in the field to help offset your incoming damage. The bonus to 1.1 update is that you can spam crippling strike for that extra 25% damage while using Persistent Distraction and The Long Drink to get sneak attack. This will save you on Guile vs using Blind and Ring the Bell. Staying bloodied shouldn't be difficult solo, but staying alive could be an issue. You dont have any big heals when things start critting. Maybe if you go arcane for some heals. Other than that, I am unsure. The build was definitively built for an offtank, and I don't do solo runs so I am unsure about what needs to be changed. Also, Engagement is less useful in a solo environment I would say. Sure, you get to debuff when engaged, but nothing will break engagement for those nice chunky engagement breaking hits. Things you absolutely need to make the build work are Persistent Distraction, Long Night's Drink, weapons/shields to increase engagement, Seven Nights (this is the best damage invocation chanters get and it hits hard and it's pbAoE which is great when you're surrounded), Silver Knight's Shield for +1 Engage and +10 Deflect, death blows, and deep wounds. Other than that you could drop some things for more summons, charm, and deep pockets. You might want a weapon set for Sasha's Sabre so you can spam a couple invocations each fight. Empower charm then cast killers froze to clean up what resisted the charm. Empowered Seven Nights is scary. That's about all I can say. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you do well in solo. Let me know how things go.
  4. It's much harder to stop stacking heals from a technical standpoint in my estimation. Most heals are locational, and not a buff. They are AoEs that effect all those inside. I don't know how you could stop stacking without making things really convoluted.
  5. That's the trade-off, mate... Oh I don't care for helmet . But some peoples do . There shouldn't be a trade off , since no other specie have that . If every specie had something like that..maybe ..but there isn't . Godlike have stronger racial abilities than the other races. Thus they have a "no helmet" trade off. One has a passive heal, one gets a flame shield and burn armor, one gets a potentially permanent +1 power level, and then there is the Death Godlike with all that crazy stuff they get. The other races get much more mundane bonuses, and that is balanced by a bonus from helmets.
  6. Honestly, the Chanter phrase (Thick Grew Their Tongues) in question has an awkwardly worded tool tip. That should be remedied. imho. Otherwise, Concentration works somewhat like Interrupt Armor from a few different games I have played. Although, they Interrupt Armor usually protects from CC, but here it just ensures you dont get interrupted when casting spells. It is fairly simple.
  7. Yes, it gives "Blessed Defiance": +1 engagement when 2 enemies are nearby. Thanks! That's what I thought, but I didn't want to say that if I wasn't sure.
  8. Spear Modal is +1 engagement at the cost of Stride. Shields all give +1 engagement. Shield Bearers get an extra engagement with a shield equipped. The unique club on the vendor in the middle of Maje has an enchant option that boosts engagement under certain conditions. I'm not at my pc to look and I can't remember exactly what those conditions are. It's called Shattered Vengeance and only costs around $5k, and it is a pretty good unique with its debuff. If you aren't doing solo then you can MC pallegina or Tekehu as Chanters to get the phrase that gives +10 Deflection and +1 Engagement. Or you can make a Merc Chanter. There may be more +1 Engagement items that I am unaware of. You can easily get 4 or so with the right weapons, modals, etc.
  9. What exactly does a Rogue bring that a Barbarian doesn't? Rogues have Sneak Attack, while Barbarians give 25% haste as well as Barbaric Smash, which is better than any of the Rogue skills you can get with a multiclass. Ranger also has Driving Flight and a higher Accuracy than either the Chanter or Rogue (Aside from the Assassin bonus from stealth). Most of the Barbarian damage increases are gained very early too, and then later the on kill passives are some of the best in the game. Blind (with great upgrades), hobble (with good upgrades, costs 1 resource), sneak attack, deathblows, deep wounds, escape, smoke veil... Not to say rogues are better or worse than barb, but rogue is honestly a great multi class for ranged characters. Hel-hyraf + pierce the bell can be the difference of tickling the enemy and overpenning them. Such a good combo. 5 point AR/Pen swing is really good. Especially if they have 2 afflictions and you have death blows + deep wounds. 2 afflictions is easy with Debilitating Strike upgrade, and dirt cheap from a guile standpoint. Confounding Blind is so good, and it surprises me no one really talks about it. Every attack causes a stacking Deflection debuff on target while the buff is active. I've gotten some enemies to -13 Deflection in 1.1. You do the math on what is happening to their life bar.
  10. Yeah, I'm a kind wayfarer, and the guy was obviously out to hurt my client from my perspective. So, I really didn't want to let him do that by solving that peacefully. I sucker punched him at least 50 times.
  11. So, I just got into an ambush in Neketaka. It was the one where you have to sneak into the bath house room and grab a satchel for the dude outside, and then deliver it to the docks. On the way to deliver you are ambushed, and this ambush was way out of my league. So, I kept trying and trying and trying. It is 2 rogues, 2 mages, 2 pistol using fighter types, a priest and a Barbarian for a leader. Those rogues and mages were a problem. I finally got Serafen to Dominate a rogue, the rogue went after a mage. Then he dominated the pistoleer in the back. While Aloth Dropped the other mage. I had Xoti cast a scroll of Pull of Eora + Scroll of Insect swarm + Shining beacon all on top of one another hitting the barb, priest, and the other pistol guy. Eder and myself (herald) kept the melee from closing in. It took a loong loonng time. However, I did it, and I feel good about it. My point in posting this? Even fights that seem impossible are possible. Determination is key. @Enoch - good to know. I don't save scum, but I only had trouble with Gorecci Street, and I just came back with Aloth and wrecked those punks. I think it is a bit hard for 3 man party, but it is 100% doable with 4, and probably fairly easy with 5.
  12. Can't make the hammer too heavy though (real warhammer heads, either one- or two-handed, aren't that large; around the size of a typical modern claw hammer I think). Not much point to them if they're too slow to actually hit anyone with, after all. Which of course does not make the whole "more weapons = hitting more often" any less ludicrous (mostly cause you really can't, to any effect). Oh, no doubt, but a fairly fit person (anybody wielding a two handed weapon would be in shape) could swing said hammer with enough force to break bone. During the winter I will go outside and chop wood to save on power about 2 times a week for 30 mins to an hour. The difference in my ability to swing that axe from early winter to late winter is night and day. Both from an efficiency standpoint and from a endurance standpoint. If I were to hit anything living during the late winter months... well, it would do a number on them. Armor or no. You just get more force from using two hands, but like I said... I am not arguing for two handers to replace dual wield or even one handed style. I just want a remotely even playing field. Not this skewed playing field where it seems like your options are dual wield, ranged, or tank with a shield.

Aren't scale and brigandine actually weak to Piercing? I'm almost sure brigaindine is. I generally see crushing as the least common, especially when fighting kith. So my top choice for each tier is usually leather, mail, and plate. Maybe you are right. I am going to go look. I swear they were ok for it. EDIT: Nope, I am an idiot. Disregard. You are correct. They need another Heavy armor on that vendor to help with Pierce.
  14. No, they weren't UP and were probably one of the more balanced classes, but the perception of Rogues on the GD board (and elsewhere) wasn't positive. So, they got boosted it seems. It isn't just Crippling Strike either. Almost every Rogue damage ability has +25% damage now, and I am pretty sure prior to 1.1 they didn't. They just didn't have a truly broken build like Pally, Fighter, Chanter, Barb, and Monk. So people complained. That is my impression of it anyway. Yes, Leather armor wasn't much a thing. It was too expensive to repair IIRC. The most common were things like Ringmail where you could repair a few rings and fix it right up on the cheap. I don't think most people are advocating the removal of historically inaccurate weapons/armor, but that it is really lopsided toward the rule of cool atm.

  16. Yeah, I have never cared for Dual Wield once I got past my Drizzt phase 15 or more years ago. I find it obnoxious that every game makes Duel Wield the end all be all of damage. The argument I have seen is "well you have more weapons to hit more often." Ok, but this two handed hammer will break your spine no matter what armor you are wearing... I don't want it excluded, but this full/primary attack system really exacerbates an already imbalanced situation. DW already gets an extra item with enchantments over 2 handed, and the fact that they swing faster and do nearly equal damage? It is just stupid. Toss in Full Attack abilities and you are off to the races. Why use anything but DW with Kind Wayfarer or a Rogue? The rogue buffs made it worse as well. Now, not only do you get 2 swings with all your abilities in order to ensure that they land, but you also do 25% more damage on your off-hand weapon which the 2 handed wielder won't have. This game is 100% skewed toward Dual Wield for damage, and it is going to take a lot of work to get anything else even remotely close to that efficiency. Especially with things like Full attacks, double enchantments, and such a huge advantage in recovery given the slower pace of combat overall compared to PoE. The attack speed thing makes it better for anyone looking to occasionally cast a spell too. This is because your recovery being lower will always be better vs anything 2 handed weapons bring to the table. Tyranny made similar mistakes early on which is why early hybrid builds were punching wizards. Because the recovery on fists were so good it benefited you to be able to cast more spells. Surprised no one learned from that mistake.
  17. @Braven - Triumph is also a good way to make use of Sacred Immolation without dropping dead. You just have to ensure that a couple of the enemies have taken some damage So that when you hit SI they drop after a tick or two. @Omeganova - I wont speak on Priests, but the harder difficulty actually helps ciphers. Their charms are now incredibly potent. You're swinging the numbers in your favor. That isnt to say some of their other spells dont need looking at, but they are for sure better in a difficulty where charm/Dom is useful.
  18. Not if you need the +1 level from the quest to have a chance at the ruins. I'm gonna head there to the ruins at lvl 3 and see what's up. I have a feeling it might have just been a scaling issue just like what the previous poster mentioned about how the boars leveled up and got nastier. You can still get level 4 before the big fight to get Aloth at the ruins by clearing out imps and a few other rooms on the top level. I did it with a Chanter. It is 100% doable. No merc. Just me, Eder, and Xoti. Required some consumable use.
  19. The ability is called Sacred Immolation for a good reason. It wasn't that suicidal in POE1. It looks as if devs forgot to put a dot between digits and it shouldn't be 50 but 5.0. It doesnt trigger as frequently in deadfire as it did in PoE1. That said I agree that it is a bit much at the moment, and it is silly that self damage is increased when Empowered. It shouldn't be a death sentence so much as a tight rope walk between surviving and falling. Right now you click it only when you dont want your Paladin standing afterwards.
  20. Gorecci Street is able to be skipped just like Raedric. You can come back after finishing everything else, dock at Maje to stock your ship with crew and the like, run to Gorecci with a full party, clear it, turn it in, and set the dude in the jail free. Exactly like avoiding Raedric till later levels.
  21. If you throw firecracker on your streetfighter it will keep him and all nearby enemies flanked for 25+ seconds (+explosives skill and int). Also, there are gloves that give 2 casts of firecrackers per rest. Firecracker craft is pretty cheap and gives 3 bombs per 1 gunpowder, solution and some grass. Also, Blunderbuss modal gets you flanked too. I usually just used Blunderbuss modal to start, and got in the thick of it in order to get flanked for real.

I really don't see the point in Priests having Dispositions in Deadfire. Does it have any effect? I know Pally's have Deep Faith which is affected by Dispositions, but I don't know what Dispositions do for Priests.
  23. Ok. So, this is weird. I went to Fort Deadlight to keep my fingers crossed on this. I found a guard that had minimal AR, and commenced with Brand. To clarify what Brand should do damage wise at my level... Damage for Soft winds is 3 with 20% for level and 24% for might. Damage for Brand is +40% for Paladin PL, +24% for might, and a potential +15% for Fighting Spirit. Seems that the Pen is: 9 Ability Level + 1 Paladin Level + 1 For a total of 11. This is only on the initial cast of Brand. You don't see any more from it in the combat log even if the damage ticks on the float numbers. Soft Winds pops up every time it is reapplied, and with my Troub's BR on it is every 3 seconds. It seems Scion of Flame isn't being applied for bonus Pen on Brand either. However, that might be for the initial application of the ability (which is all I can see in the Log), and Scion may work with the damage each time it ticks. I can't say. The enemy had: Leather Armor + 5 PotD +2 Level Scaling + 1 Total: 8 So, I should have 3 pen over the target's value. Odd thing is that both Brand and Soft Winds say "0 damage for 3 seconds" in the combat log when they are applied. However, at my Might and Level (10) Soft Winds says 3 damage every 3 seconds and Brand is 6.9 damage every 3 seconds on their ability pages. It is hard to tell when these ticks aren't popping up in the combat log. This is the first enemy in about 5 different encounters that even takes damage, and since it got a buff from Level Scaling to AR... I can only conclude that I am a bit above the appropriate level for the area. Which I knew I would be given you can do Serafen's quest pretty early. So, I repeated the test without Soft Winds running and I am still doing 8 damage. Maybe I screwed up, but since I am in an area below my level I shouldn't be surprised it is doing what it is supposed to do. However, I admit that since Brand doesn't show up in the combat log that it might be doing damage and not showing it in the floating numbers. I would still posit that I am still seeing a lot of fights where it is doing nothing... as I tried hitting targets outside the fray like archers/mages to see their life bar neither move nor any floating damage pop up. It is odd. So, maybe these DoT's should show up in the combat log so we can better assess them. I still think that damage is too low for abilities you unlock at PL 3 and PL 5, and I still believe that most of the other encounters Brand isn't doing anything.
  24. They don't show pen on the ability sheet via right click. So, I have to get it from the combat log. I don't have DT on my present playthrough, yet. I do have Brand Enemy, but I am having trouble finding any enemies that it actually does damage to. I will update when I have the available numbers. If I can get them, that is. I will admit I am making assumptions on DT based on what I am seeing with Brand, but it might be different. I clicked it to check it out on my last level up, and I didn't see any Pen on its sheet either. Also, I did pick up Scion of Flame hoping that it would at least change things enough that I would start to do a little damage, but no such luck. I will update when (if) I can land some damage. I am wondering if the DoT even shows up in the combat log at this point. I have monitored both the enemy via floating damage, and the log, to no avail. Will update if possible.
  25. Same for Chanter MC combos. They tend to lose their level 1 Phrase. However, it seems that you also lose the selection for your other class at level one as well. So, in my experience with my Herald (Kind Wayfarer/Troubadour), I will keep FoD and Hel-Hyraf, but lose Sworn Enemy and Soft Winds which you selected at Char Gen. When you respec, and start to level up to level 2 you only see FoD and Hel-hyraf selected, and only have 1 point to spend. The odd thing is that if you exit the level up screen and look at your Character Sheet you will see a Chant including Soft Winds, but it isn't highlighted when trying to level up. It is just strange.
