Count me in on Team Rekke. Don’t get me wrong—Ydwin’s also interesting and I hope both will eventually make it to companion status in the expansions (if upgrading sidekicks to companions will even be a thing.) However Rekke, who is clearly a previous incarnation of Arch Enemy’s (and former Carcass’) guitarist Michael Amott, is definitely my favorite.

Mine (Lady of Pain) was. I played PotD with no scaling in a party of 5.

Thank you, Dimitri! -
@Voltron - You make an excellent point, but I won’t be able to write an articulated reply until I’m back from my holiday next Monday I definitely advise against this build (or any that employ the Helwalker subclass, really) for solo play. If soloing, Devoted/Shattered Pillar is strictly better; take Rooting Pain and Torment’s Reach / Raised Torment instead of three other abilities I listed, then set the A.I. to use Raised Torment on the nearest target when at 5 Wounds.

The Spirit Lance works in the same way as Carnage in the first game: It applies all on-hit effects to its AoE. If you use Soul Annihilation with Citzal's Spirit Lance, the damage from the ability will affect all creatures caught in the lance's AoE, and it will generate Focus from the damage inflicted on all said creatures. It's just one of many possible cheesy uses of Citzal's Spirit Lance.

For those who didn't play the first game and/or did so without perusing the builds from this forum, the Lady of Pain was/is my signature build for Pillars of Eternity and is in no way related to her Planescape namesake. Premise. Deadfire brings several mechanical changes to the table, to the point that recreating the first game's build 1:1 is almost impossible. I therefore set out to create a new build that would translate the Lady of Pain's foundations to the Deadfire mechanics: Maxing out MIG score (which Deadfire made simpler in concept by putting a hard cap on attributes.) Packing as many damage bonuses as possible. Pumping Accuracy. Reducing recovery as much as possible while using a 2H and wearing good armor. * Turning its weak spot (low Deflection) into an asset. * Deadfire also makes it impossible to reach 0 recovery unless you dual-wield Scordeo's Edge, so I had to give up on heavy armor and make do with the lowest recovery I could reach. As was the case with my guide for the first game, I'll be using spoiler tags for each section to improve readability and avoid the wall-of-text effect. The build is not tested for solo play (and I would advise against it given its early-game glass-cannon nature.) The guide includes spoilers for equipment and bonuses you can get throughout the game. Race, Provenance, Background. Attributes. Class & Abilities. Skills. Equipment. A.I. PoE Legacy. Berath's Blessings.

Apologies, I opened another thread about the same thing when I was unaware of this one. I'll link it here and post any further reports into this one. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/100388-companion-reactions-when-they-make-no-sense/

I didn’t kill Arkemyr as there was no quest / set piece for it and I didn’t want to just aggro him—it would have felt underwhelming. So I guess that’s how I’ve missed the similarly underwhelming 8th-level spell. As for grimoires, my favorite remains Ninagauth’s Teachings. I rarely felt the need for the extra cast per level past level 10, and Shadowflame is too good to pass (also looks rad.)

Arkemyr's Grimoire is supposed to also include an 8th-level spell called Arkemyr's Mercurial Madness, but I didn't get it in my game (I got the grimoire, but it didn't have that spell.) It's not a very good spell, so not a big loss, but still... Ninagauth's Shadowflame remains by far the best unique spell, though Concelhaut's Draining Missiles can be pretty good when Empowered.

"Dissonante" should be "dissonant" unless you wanted a random Italian word in your English text Missing "s" in "possessed": Missing space after the ellipsis: The voice-over doesn't say "the":
