Hard mode is too easy.
SeekDWay replied to Mazisky's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I switched to normal on my Chanter, so far hard has been just big blobs of more stuff which breaks immersion for me too much. The only difference was that you need more AoE and nukes on hard, which I did not enjoy for long. -
Your RPG system sucks!
SeekDWay replied to Halsy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Just expressing some opinions here. Combat mechanics are shallow. As a result damage reigns supreme, while the game si riddled with extremely situational spells. By the time an opportunity presents itself to use certain abilities I've often forgotten they ever existed (even on Hard). Even better it turns out this 1 ability is 1 per rest and you just laugh at it. I really hope for a mod that increases stamina everywhere in the game, so nuking is less tempting. I agree about sneaking, it is always beneficial to move in scouting mode, as it is this mode is entirely pointless. I just use scouting mode + fast mode, but if I should do that then something is wrong in the first place. AI pathing is still horrible to the point where it is hard to not abuse it because you cannot avoid it. Attributes are boring. This is a personal opinion, just last night me and a mate were discussing how similar this games is to Diablo 3 in terms of stats. I see why they did that, but I just find them plain boring. :-/ I gotta make it clear that I am saying all of this because I freaking love this game, I've been playing it on and off for 3 days now and it feels awesome. Companions are a bit meh (I like more plain party members with less deranged personalities, some blond dude is a blessing) but I think they will pick up once the game gets into later stagies. -
The Official Romance Thread
SeekDWay replied to Rosbjerg's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I just wish there would be some flirting with companions, I never really considered a full fledged romance possible in a game, but some flirting is just normal human interaction. I'm not just talking about NPC-PC interaction here, having a family person in the party is something I really enjoy. Sex? I don't give a **** about that but this is not supposed to be a PG-13 game anyways. For instance the Viconia romance had some very nice moments, so did Jaheira's. I just hope that PoE companions don't turn out to be just plot dumps that don't have any kind of evolving relationship to each other. I'm tired of the evergoing bachelor's party. EDIT: I agree with Fiaryn, most interactions with party members in BG had only 1 "choice". -
I thought that was the whole point of the Kickstarter effort: to bring back some of the feel of the IE games. Remember, BG was based on AD&D. As a core class, I'd rather have priest be old-school than replaced by some of the shiz that all "modern" rpgs seems to be spawning. 2E might as well be my favorite edition as flawed as it is... So I guess I am biased.

Yes, they are fair melee combatants. They don't have many abilities directly related to melee, but they have good health and accuracy. Superb! Thank you so much! I'm so hyped right now. :D

Mr. Sawyer, as someone who really enjoyed playing melee or combat bards in older DnD editions, I would like to ask if we will be able to build Chanters as passable melee combatants ? This is the big factor for my main character. Bard or Ranger that is. Jack's of all trades is what floats my boat.

Resting system
SeekDWay replied to Crusader_bin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I voted for BG2 style of resting, but overall I'd rather not have resting in the usual meaning. I want it to be even more limited by location and time. -
How big world do you want?

As many as possible. -
Spell Assortment
SeekDWay replied to Heresiarch's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I dont see another viable option other than BG2 style spells. Everyone wants quality stuff and for me out of these 3 options that's the only good one. -
Believable shadows in enough for me. Having detailed shadows was never a concern for me in any game.

Some NWN style variety would be nice, but getting a Quiver of Holding later on in the game would be awesome.

Starting Equipment
SeekDWay replied to Stalwart Pikeman's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
If I was allowed to dream... I dreamed a dream where PE was my personal Nethack 2014 and items were sorted by class with some random or player controlled elements. -
I liked the way BG2 handled things for the most part, but later in the game areas felt too artificial. I'd rather have a balanced mix of BG1 and BG2 for most areas and a version of Athkatla populated by Sigil refugees for cities. This poll is rather lacking in the meaning that we get to choose between more variety or no variety. I like tortles.

Arsenal in Project Eternity.
SeekDWay replied to Karranthain's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I'd rather have a medium selection of weapon types. I'm seriously tired of recent games where you get only the usual sword-axe-maxe-twohands crap. I miss duelist classes and styles, I miss spears (guan dao type), I miss variety...- 44 replies

I found infinity games very lacking in terms of ambient sound effects. I hope we get something close to Arx Fatalis (that game has no music and only ambient sounds) when it comes to ambient sounds. I'd rather have no music in a game than very poor ambient effects. Then again I'm wierd... I play most RPGs with no music or music at very low.

A question of Loot
SeekDWay replied to Hellfell's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I saw a duck in that lake, I'ma go loot it nao. I liked how BG and IWD handled loot and I'm totally OK with that design. I just hope that the amount of items you can carry is more realistic. Once upon a time a saw a rogue, he had 12 strength and carried 15 halberds on his back, while sneaking behind me. -
The sequel will be a steampunkish RPG with some elements from Angry Birds and Farmville. Also we'll finally be able to use ducks as guns as St. Fargo fortold. You can't keep a company the size of Obsidian running on projects the size of Eternity. Eternity is not New Vegas. It's not going to bring in $300 million. To "go independent , they'd have to fire a LOT of people. I myself am very sceptical about how sales will go currently. I really hope Obsidian will make some small chunk with PE. It's for that reason that I did not add the Expansion as an add-on. If I must I'll kickstart it too, but lets hope *crosses fingers* that the game will sell enough copies to support sequels. There is just no thunder for this game to ride on for more publicity, like Torchlight did after Diablo 3 flopped (hardly flopped initial sales, but flopped longterm).

I live in Bulgaria, a country where my friends laugh at me for supporting stuff on kickstarter and buying games or other digital goodies. Beeing on the front seat of a "piracy for dummies" show for 20 years now, has thought me one thing - DRM is a joke... Once you see how easy piracy rolls, you eighter stick with only pirated content or you realize buying is supporting, wish the later was the case in my country, Russia, UK, China and some EU countries, but it is not. *Looks at the small roll of boxes on the shelf, nobs to self, smiles* Publishing as a whole is a nasty combo of avoiding taxes and milking game studios or other artists, it's not what it is supposed to be, but that's the sad truth behind it currently.

Should magic miss?
SeekDWay replied to Hormalakh's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
The thing about crits on spells is that it dimishes the usaul Ommph feeling mages give off when they cast their kick ass spells, because they have to be balanced around crit probability. I'd rather have a very limited number or no stats shared between fighters and spellcasters. Having abominations llike Diablo 3 and other newer games where spellcasters are just archers with more shiny is kinda boring to me. I play mostly rangers and bards... Then again I don't like D&D 4e, so it might be just my personal preference.
