Do we want elves and dwarves?
Labadal replied to Telefax's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I chose "I don't care", because it's all about how they are implemented in the game world. Elves and dwarves in this game could still be different from elves and dwarves in other games/books. It doesn't matter if there are other races, but they fill the same role as elves and dwarves, then the game has achieved nothing in that regard. -
Doing party AI right.
Labadal replied to Odarbi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
How was it atrocious? It worked perfectly fine and the AI controlled party members did exactly what the gambits were meant to do. What can be improved from that system is to have more options, but to say the gambit system was atrocious boggles my mind.- 17 replies

Portrait Poll
Labadal replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Old-skool custom ports like IE games -
I'd say that around 4-6 extra months would be ok. For me personally, I just want a polished game, and if it means that some extra time is needed, then go ahead and take your time. Worst case scenario is that I spoil myself with the beta.

Crossroad keep was a quest and plot point rather than a house. The Flagon in Neverwinter was more like a house for your character. Well, you're right. I don't want something like Crossroad keep, but I don't something simple like the Drunken Flagon. Something inbetween would be cool. I want to be able to upgrade my home, but I don't want it to take too much focus from my adventuring.

Update #4 DRM Question
Labadal replied to Skie Nightfall's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It was mentioned that they are still looking into the matter. -
A normal house. Maybe a fortress, if it's handled automatically like the Suikoden games. I know character recruitment in P.E. and Suikoden are nothing alike, but it's fun to see your base grow without you having to worry too much. As long as it's not handled like in NWN2, I'm good. It was cool at first, but managing the keep got slightly annoying in the end. One thing it did right was that you actually got side quests from it.

GOG DRM FREE OPTION CONFIRMED
Labadal replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Excellent. I didn't mind having it on Steam, but I prefer to have it on GoG. I like them better than Steam simply because their prices aren't ridicilous and everything works great with them. -
Level scaling
Labadal replied to buggeer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If there's something I'm against, it is level scaling. Don't like it and I never will. Sure, if you do a crapton of sidequests, your party could end up overpowered, but that's something that I decided to do. On a second playthrough, I might just run through the main storyline, wich means that battles would be more difficult since you're not likely to be overlevelled and have some of the sidequest loot. Or one could simply decide to up the difficulty, because I'm assuming difficulty choice will be in.- 168 replies

A livlier world would be welcomed by me, but it isn't very important in the end. If they can do it without it hurting the game's scope, then I'm all for it, but if it compromises other things that I find more important, then I don't mind if the world isn't animated in high detail.

Cant (lingo, jargon...)
Labadal replied to molarBear's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I hope to see it in the game. Different regions using different dialects and slangs. It should also be applied to races. Humans near the sea don't speak like humans living in the mountains, etc. Their class in soceity should also be a factor. Nobles speak more "elegantly", while lower and middle class sitizens use more slang words. Maybe even religion can have an influence too. I'm all for making different regions feel different, not only from a visual design, but also from language, social behaviour, etc. -
Played some Dragon Quest IX after putting it on hold for a couple of months. Managed to actually progress the story at a quick pace. Completed two story scenarios and the boss fights were challenging and fun. The games are more challenging than one would think.

Important, I like to find out fluff information in game about non story It can help flesh out the world and it might help make sense of the world. Why different things work like they do, and make it feel like there is actually a history. There shouldn't only be lore about heroes, but many different types of lore, both serious and silly.

DLC vs Expansion Packs
Labadal replied to Intoxicated_Ant's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'd prefer expansion packs everyday of the week. Release the original game and see how it goes. If you're happy with sales, then you start working on an expansion pack that continues the story of the original game or is a separate adventure. DLC packs can work for some games, and I have bought more DLC than I probably should have, but I don't see DLC working for this type of game.- 139 replies

I'd like to see stuff like shield bash, dirty fighting, stunning strikes, etc. I know you guys are going to laugh, but it would be cool if there were more than one class that has for example dirty fighting, but the effect is different. Dirty Fighting Fighter: Eye Poke, or something else that is considered dirty in a "fair" fight. Rouge (or any stealthy character): Stab the knee of an opponent, or something like that. Stab in the face, or whatever. Throw sand in enemies face. Monk (H&H combat character): Kidney punch or whatever is a better option. Barbarian: Bite your opponent! (I couldn't come up with anything, lol) Would be a problem against heavily armored enemies.

Why no stretch goals
Labadal replied to Mloren's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Not listing stretch goals now is good. The pledges will slow down, and then stretch goals will help increase interest for new backers, and old backers might increase their pledge. (I increased my W2 and BS pledges after learning about their goals.) We'll probably also get more info about the game as the kickstarter is running, and the last few days, I'm guessing that we'll get something bigger and that will help with raising even more funds.
