  1. I prefer using a PC with keyboard and mouse and all the extra stuff you can do with mods and what not on a PC... however I also really enjoy sitting back on my sofa and playing on a console with a big TV. and not just being sat upright at a desk. Also my PS4(original) always sounds like it's going to take off into orbit when I try play most of the games which is really annoying. PC's are more for enthusiasts rather than casuals. There is nothing wrong with being casual... It's called casual for a reason, because you're not that invested or bothered. In fact I put a lot of effort into making a PC and i've barely used it over the years, i've been on my Switch and PS4 more. Edit: I remember a funny quote comparing the two saying "It's like comparing a car to a bus, in what way is a car better than a bus?"
  2. Nice one! Build on the good aspects, don't just make it open world for the sake of putting it on the non existant adverts.
  3. I haven't played more than 1 hour of Serpent, I merely bought it on the look of the game. That's what I mean, I will buy most CRPG's as i 'plan' to at least play them one day. So I don't think of them as rivals, i'd have thought most CRPG fans buy a lot of them. Don't have much comments on the hollywood situation. I'm not really into going to the cinema, in fact the last film I did see at the cinema was a rerelease of 2001 A Space Oddyssey a year or 2 back.I'm not sure if it's the same situation... with DLCs and all that lark associated with 'em. Anyways, with all this said. I don't think any of the modern releases are on the level of BG2 still! BG2 has a massive barrier to entry though with AD&D and being a direct sequel. The last 90's and early 2000's was a great time for RPG's in general. The best Final Fantasy games came out around then, the classic IE games, KOTOR, Deus Ex, Breath of Fire 3/4... man the PS1 had some good JRPG's. Suikoden 1 and 2. No idea where I am going with this. Okay POE is a good game, my problem with it is it feels like a ripoff of the classic games too much. It's almost unfair that the IE games had so much material to go on with all the forgotten realms stuff. It made the worlds feel so much bigger. Edit: After seeing the new Pathfinder game announced i had an obvious realisation, Pathfinder was a success partially(or primarily) due to being from a well established franchise and brand name! As was Divinity, they have both been around for years.
  4. Hmm.. I prefer KOTOR 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2.
  5. 3 million eh. I get the impression some of you think that people would only buy Deadfire OR DOS2 and not both. I bought both, also Pathfinder, the Shadowrun games, Serpent in the Staglands... I didn't bother with TTON because all reviews and comments said it isn't even an RPG apparently. So I didn't bother.
  6. Women with beards are being oppressed by the patriarchy!!! Let's dye our hair pink and start a protest.
  7. Been checking GOG sales over the weekend and I haven't noticed Deadfire or any of the expansions at reduced price at all wheras Divinity Original Sin 2 and Pathfinder Kingmaker have. Obsidian just forgot to do anything or don't care anymore now they are part of MS?
  8. I have to say well done, thanks for lightening up this topic.
  9. The budget was too high. Josh even said that the Ship minigame was a black hole of resources. They should have trimmed the fat, focussed on what was important. So even if sales remained like this, at least costs would be lower. Same with full VO, how much has it really added? All these 2 features did were drive Josh to hating CRPG's.
  10. Ermm.. BG3 has been announced. And I probably won't bother. For me the entire series was wrapped up in Throne of Bhaal. This seems really cynical calling it Baldur's Gate 3 when there's no need for any continuation. They just can't leave well enough alone!
  11. Mass Effect 2 is superior to 1 in almost every way. The gameplay in ME1 was hardly anything special. I played it in spite of the mediocre gameplay. ME2 made shooting actually somewhat enjoyable.
  12. Is there even any point bringing it out now? I can online imagine them bringing it out if Epic start making a dent in their business, not because they actually have a good idea for it.
  13. Best RPG Disco Elysium Final Fantasy XIV Kingdom Hearts III Monster Hunter World: Iceborne The Outer Worlds It's not been a good year has it... I've never even looked at or cared about these sort of awards. All awards in general are nonsense and populaity contest really. But just looking at all the nominees... Yeeeeeeeeesh. I'm trying to think what else came out this year, looking down the wikipedia list and it looks like most of the releases were remakes/reboots/remasters/etc.
  14. A big flaw of BG2 for me is that there is just so much stuff to do straight away (After initial dungeon). I think some of that content should have been gated behind other quests. And some of the harder ones should have been available after Spellhold. Breath of the Wild is probably the best example of an open world game... it uses it all to its advantage and doesn't just make it open world for the sake of it because that's what is popular. I think Deadfire would have benefitted from a lot more linearity. I feel like they make some of these games 'open world' just to put that on the features on the advert.
  15. WoW Classic is the best game of the year... and it came out 15 years ago.
  16. So is this basically Honey I Shrunk The Kids the game?
  17. I mean I was sort of half joking, but I genuinely think it would have done better with that sort of advertising.
  18. Actually... after thinking about it some more. I think it's because they didn't have any women in boob plate armour on the front. The sales probably would have shot up if they had a few barely clothed elves on the adverts and posters and what not.
  19. Still havent completed poe1 and I bought poe2 and all expansions. Still havent completed poe2 or entered any expansion. I rarely complete game now tbh. But still play a lot of it. I mean to complete them one day at least. Anyways, I didnt find out about poe2 til I just happened across the fig searching for something else. I think the kickstarter for poe1 has a massive effect. Right place righttime type of thing.
  20. Marketing.... or lack of it. Not sure how big the market is for this type of game anyway. Don't compare to DOS2 as it's completely different.
  21. Let's have something new, put this series on the back burner. HARD SCI FI RPG! Just keep dropping it in hopefully someone will read it and get inspired.
  22. That is a lot of text... will read it next week. I'm curious what people consider 'good writing' in games. I think BG1/2 have really good writing, it suits the game and Forgotten Realms. It's funny and interesting, it's not a shining example of fine writing but it works for the game. Does every game need to strive to be War and Peace or whatever? As long as the writing works for the game, isn't that good enough? I think 'The Beach' is a fine piece of literature, my favourite book i re-read every year or so... because it serves the story and characters well not because it's something that needs to be studied in literature at university. I still Like 1984 and Brave New World but I won't re read them anytime soon. The Sopranos has fantastic writing, it's funny and keeps you engaged. But it's mainly swearing and talking about food!
  23. I wasnt entirely enamoured with the first game. Deadfire is a massive improvement... for me.
  24. Maybe they can't be bothered anymore, I can't be bothered either.
