  1. Health issues on the homefront, wife has to get her gallbladder removed tomorrow morning. Not really that crazy except that yesterday, when we got the news, was my late mom's birthday. She died of pancreatic cancer 6 months after first being misdiagnosed with gallbladder issues. Not the same at all but because of the day that's where my mind was at. It was a something

  3. @BruceVC Have you tried Looking Glass Studios output? I retroplayed their immersive sim titles (Thief1&2, Systemshock2 [1st one still being on my to do list]. Deus Ex by some of the same developers). All phenomenal games, that hold up very well. My gaming doesn’t quite go as far back as @Gorth’s and while I have fond memories of Comodore64 from childhood, not much there that stuck with me throughout the years. Probably the oldest games I still return to are from DOS era: original Xcom (UFO: Enemy Unknown) modded using open-xcom, and original Sid Meier’s Pirates!.

  4. I have mentioned this before but I have an unusual gaming history considering my age, Im 49, and what I have played and what games I havent played Because of Apartheid sanctions and lack of gaming investment in SA the first games I played where from 1989-1994 but they only Sierra games like Kings Quest, Space Quest and Heroes Quest. Then I stopped gaming from 1996-2007 so I didnt play any games released from that time But from 2007 I invested in my first gaming PC and played Gothic 3 and Morrowind. So I subsequently played many games since then but mostly modern games. But the last 2-3 years I have started playing more CRPG and older games and I have come to appreciate them and there mechanics. I love older games and modern games for different reasons But I still am absolutely committed to play games like Wizardry, M&M, Ultima and the Gold Box D&D games. They all on my list

  5. Thanks! I figured if I edit a paladin's dispositions, create the character and then remove the mod it seems to be working just fine, at least in the intro area. Do you think there might be issues later on? Disposition bonuses/maluses seem to be working well with their intended behaviour. Simply editing DispositionsAreCompatible in the assembly dll does the trick, disposition seems to be working just fine, remains to be seen if it breaks anything. Time for a playthrough!

  6. Crossing fingers, hoping it's a fast and uncomplicated thing My young visitor is continuing her journey up north after the weekend. Probably just as well, as I'm not sure I could get used to have her around for prolonged periods of time. That flowery, fruity scent trail she leaves behind wherever she walks makes me constantly hungry

  8. for the gop base, a political stunt don't need be reasonable or produce results. 'ccording to conservative media, desantis and abbott showed america they owned the libs. desantis and abbott took the fight to dem controlled towns and cities north o' the mason-dixon line. the southern republican governors forced liberal elites to confront the living and breathing faces of illegal immigration... or something. that's a gop win. it doesn't need to make sense. HA! Good Fun!

HA! Good Fun!

  14. If cod games come to gamepass, I might check it out for the first time. Not gonna pay 70something bucks for 3 hour campaigns that probably are just mediocre anyways. However, if the games will be on gamepass.. why not.

  16. Yes Luckily modders released a fix at some point, which made them visible again. Iirc, there was also a version of Carmageddon released where the blood was coloured green But luckily that was only those sold on the German market, the version I bought in Denmark was perfectly fine, pedestrians getting all splattered and spraying red blood and gore everywhere when running them over.

  17. I found this to be a good essay that gets a lot of the thoughts I'd been having down. It's very strange seeing what I half recall as a kid repeating itself. I just hope it isn't as catastrophic as Iraq. Yeah, I was holding off posting about it because there is just an astronomical amount of disinformation going around, even by the standards of social media. Thanks Elon. But anyways, sadly it looks legit. Looks like white phosphorus was used on Lebanon as well as Gaza.

  18. Fallout (2?) also had that Child Killer trait you could get if you did it the dumb way, which is a big but reasonable disincentive to do it without blocking off the option altogether. The smart way, of course, was to let the kids pickpocket that lit dynamite out of your pocket. This was the one where the European versions of the game had the kids "removed" I believe? And by removed, made invisible so Europeans had to deal with invisible pickpockets.

  19. You know, I don't ever remember wanting to kill any children in BG1 and BG2, where you actually can, but all of these games where you can't, there's always at least one that I definitely did. Kind of feels like a chicken-or-the-egg situation: did they give children immortality because they realized their child characters were so annoying that they needed immortality to make sure that players weren't heartlessly slaughtering children en masse, or did they oh so smugly develop all these annoying child characters with the foreknowledge that there's absolutely nothing that the player can do about them? Regardless, I think it'd be a good idea for developers to remember that players will want to mutilate and butcher children if they're too annoying, incentivizing those developers to write them appropriately with that firmly in mind.

  20. were a few years past, but @Leferd mentioned he got one o' their smart ovens for christmas... and socks? am recalling socks and headphones.... something else too. oh well. with a breville joule oven air fryer pro and a couple control freaks, we could functional replace our viking if need be. am knowing breville also makes hand/stand mixers, blenders, food processors and other gadgets, but am not having heard much about those or other products in the breville catalog. edit: not that anybody cares, but if you don't need smart features and you want a countertop convection oven, our choice is the following: https://www.cuisinart.com/shopping/appliances/toaster_ovens/tob-260n1/ is half as expensive as the breville with the same capacity and power. fewer smart features so less stuff to go wrong. the device is simple and am mighty impressed with how it performs, particular at the price point. so, we would need maybe change to a cuisinart tob-260n1 toaster oven and two control freaks... throw in a cosori pro iii basket air fryer as well if am trying to replace our viking with appliances, although there is no way to replace the infrared broiler on the viking. HA! Good Fun! ps am gonna also mention our rice cooker, 'cause it cost us less than $20 when we bought original, and then three years ago when we needed a replacement 'cause we knocked it off the countertop and broke it... the purchase set us back $25. the thing is flawless when making white rice or oatmeal. we loathe wild rice and almost never make brown rice, so we can't speak to the appliance's efficacy for those grains/seeds.

  21. more drama and a possible explanation for the abrupt interruption o' the weisselberg testimony in trump's civil fraud case we mentioned earlier: Ex-Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg’s Testimony Abruptly Ended After Forbes Story Accused Him of Perjury Weisselberg insisted on Tuesday from the witness stand that he “never focused” on calculating the square footage of the former president’s Trump Tower triplex, a three-floor penthouse in his namesake skyscraper. Two days later, on Thursday, Forbes reported that emails not currently in the attorney general’s possession show otherwise. ... Forbes senior editor Dan Alexander wrote that his old emails and reporter notes contradict those denials, pointing out in his story that "Weisselberg absolutely thought about Trump’s apartment—and played a key role in trying to convince Forbes over the course of several years that it was worth more than it really was." "Given the fact that these discussions continued for years, and that Weisselberg took a very detailed approach in reviewing Trump’s assets with Forbes, it defies all logic to think he truly believes what he is now saying in court," Alexander added. HA! Good Fun!

  22. Breville is a "big name" here in Australia. I think most of my small appliances are that particular brand (because it's what the departments stores seems to all have in stock)

  23. Want me to post the picture I posted the last time the topic came up? Anyway, at least the repeat was not within the same iteration of this thread, it was the last one. You know, unlike that Stephen King discussion between Hurlshot and Xzar_Monty which repeated almost verbatim only like four pages apart. Well, we don't make gołąbki, but sarma, which differs insfoar it is made with sauerkraut leaves. Obviously we use our grandmother's recipe with mixed minced meat (beef and pork, as inaccurate as that is, the regional, organic mixed in our local market works really well), and she never braised them in the oven, just in a regular pot, and no shenanigans with smoked meat. Pretty sure @Sarex's family has some variation too. Well, like you said, most people in Eastern Europe do, although nowadays that's more called Central and South Eastern Europe. Silly former Warsaw Pact nations thinking they're not part of Eastern Europe. They're lucky we don't still just call them the Russians.

  25. Next demo, The Talos Principle 2. It starts out looking like The Talos Principle. Not the worst thing in the world since The Talos Principle is one of my favorite games and IMHO the best game Croteam ever developed. But then... But also Greek gods? This game looks STUNNING. There are some wall textures I've found that look a bit gnarly if you try to lick them, but overall it looks spectacular. It's out in less than a month too. /rubs hands together

  27. It will be fully playable, you won't miss generic Priest dialogue options, but you won't get any "Priest of Rymrgand" options when other classes would've gotten a special option for their Deity. CharacterSubClassComponent -> IncompatibleWith lets you add new restrictions, but the ones with opposing dispositions are automatically detected as invalid combos by the game, sadly... So there's no way to "enable" forbidden combos.

  28. The ICC, like the UN, is a wonderful idea. Some of the things they've done are actually good, too. But when the going gets tough, we get to witness some pretty drastic prioritization of concerns. I have mentioned this before, but the same hierarchy is clearly visible on the individual level, too: the vast majority of people want to see justice being done, but when faced with a choice where either justice is done or someone dear to us gets out of trouble at the expense of justice being done, more than half of us will choose the latter, according to various studies. So we value our friends more than we value justice, just like countries and organizations value their colleagues/whatnot more than they value justice. It's not pretty.

  30. am tending to agree, but whenever we ask the trespassing cervids for id, they either ignore us, or they give us a tough-guy glare which would make just about any mafia button man envious. our local deer population has almost zero fear o' canines or humans. as such am unable to say with certainty if the two images depict the same interloper. regardless, our community needs to think about importing a wolf pack or two. oh sure, most o' the neighborhood felines would go missing before the deer problem were solved, but if you are gonna make an omelet, right? am joking about the wolves. HA! Good Fun!

  34. There may be some similarities to French thinking prior to WW2 but for Maginot specifically there's only one peripheral similarity, that a few Hamas went around it via the sea. The vast majority went straight through the Gaza barrier. The Maginot Line broadly did its job, as designed, and was not penetrated until after the war was lost in Flanders and Paris captured; its job was just irrelevant to the war Germany fought. The Gazan barrier was relevant, and it didn't do its job at all. There's literally nothing in that article that shows any particular sophistication beyond what might reasonably be expected. Even the coordination, given that the surge in Hamas comms was specifically noted as being detected but just not acted on. Shooting out cameras and attacking observation posts plus using drones is not exactly rocket surgery. A lack of planning for that is far more symptomatic of colossal hubris/ lack of imagination on the Israeli side rather than any particular tactical brilliance (or outside help) for Hamas.
