More Auntie Ethel: And once again, Karlach deals the finishing blow: This was not the first roll. Of course I rolled a 1 and a 3 first and had to use an inspiration to get the 20. I already have plenty, even without pickpocketing. I will do it for fun and roleplaying, since my character is kleptomaniac. Auntie Ethel found out quickly. I send all food to camp immediately. You can use what is in the traveler's chest when resting, it doesn't need to be in the inventory.2 points

Some people should not speak on camera, good lord that video was intolerable. On a side-note, you should really manually go into turn-based mode before pickpocketing anybody - makes running away hilariously easy if you get a full turn of movement before the "I've been stolen from!" timer starts to run*. Upon seeing how broken pickpocketing was, I immediately implemented a "I can only steal enchanted and quest items from NPCs where there is no other apparent/satisfactory method of obtaining them" rule, because just stealing everything is incredibly lame and boring. (e): *Also, you can steal multiple items if necessary/successful before that timer starts to run. And also, the character can't move around while you're in turn-based mode. Overall, it just...doesn't make any sense not to be in turn-based mode.2 points

Thank you Yahztee edit. Very interesting point about choices we get as a player being already an expression of our character. Perhaps that a reason why I don't get along with class specific lines that don't align with my character - I made a decision regarding my player's profession, dont make a decision for me regarding his personality. It also might be why I love PoE1&2 disposition system so much. We get to make smaller choices, therefore expressing out willingless to roleplay the character a certain why, so when we get those more extreme benevolent/cruel options, they feel rewarding and appropriate - like the game noticing what I am trying to do and supporting it. I feel quite often at odds with BG3, however.1 point

I remember watching some long-form essay video on someone playing Shadows of Amn for the first time and them marvelling at how dark, dirty, and chaotic Athkatla is, and how it made it really feel like this wonderfully lived-in and organically constructed city, especially relative to most other games' cities - even much more modern games. Environmental audio and visuals alike definitely play into that, and I sometimes think about that video when I consider how attentive and perfectly at home I feel with certain games' environments while feeling completely out of sorts and not thinking anything of or even really paying attention to those of other games. Some games just do a much better job of creating a believable illusion, and it can be difficult to quantify. From what I've played of BG3, I can't say that the game really quite gets me in this way even to the standard of BG1, and note that I love and obviously think a lot more of Shadows of Amn.1 point

You're not completely off. People whose dementia has progressed a lot tend to have weak immune systems, so they're prone to infections and such, from which it happens to follow that one of the most common causes of death for people with late-stage dementia is, surprise surprise, pneumonia. Your question is valid, though. There are fatal diseases that don't kill you as such, they just make you very vulnerable to various other things that will kill you. (Some people whose cause of death is marked as dementia will actually die from malnutrition.)1 point

Probably for the same reason they can't do decent camera angles or make exploration be anything but a pain in the ass, or have a loot highlight key that only highlights half the loot. The first one is pretyt subjective, the other really is an issue, and yes, run down clothes in a freaking wardrobe is loot.1 point

This song is still superb after all these years. I remain fascinated by the rather violent streak that some of Simon's songs display; this is clearly one of them.1 point

Analysis by Slovak security expert, who is specialized into interconnection between Russia, politicians and security services in the country. Radovan Branik. Translated by DeepL. It is pretty long waal of text, but one of the most interesting parts is the last few paragraphs, talking about the second plane, which landed in Moscow after the crash of the first one.1 point

@BruceVC: Here's a good example of a question posed to a Russian around the theme of evil American conspiracies and all the rest of it. The question was posed by a Finnish diplomat who has met Putin several times and whose knowledge of both Russia and the US is is quite extensive. "The world that we used to live in until February 2022; was that world really intolerable for Russians to such an extent that breaking it was worth everything that it entailed?" The Finnish diplomat received no answer at all.1 point

I'm imagining taking this idea to its most extreme logical conclusion: a future where all the Democrat voters run the Republican primaries, and all the Republican voters run the Democrat primaries, with each group voting for the absolute worst candidate possible to try and outdo the other side to make their own look more palatable. Cue everyone wondering why all our candidates are always so bad. Well, that seemingly happens a lot of the time anyways, but it'd be even worse.1 point

I cleared out the Goblin camp, one of the three leaders has a bull**** ability that knocks your character(s) into a pit and there are some consequences for killing him. Also, the drow member of the trio is clearly intended to be a companion since she had containers on her that only party members have. I ended up reloading though because I went to rest and got killed. Will redo some of that stuff later. Class/Companion stuff: -Karlach continues to impress, throwing goblins around while enraged is just damn funny. -Wyll with Pact of the Blade is great, two eldritch blasts or two attacks is great and effectively 4x (3x for those without Bards) 3rd level spell slots at level 5 is very nice. Only downside is being in light armor, which hits his AC by 2 compared to my Bard. -Shadowheart's divine magic is a clincher, Guiding Bolt is an incredibly solid early spell that provides good utility while her healing and support are almost necessary. -I have not used Gale very much at all, will probably start after my Bard gets his extra attack next level but for now he just doesn't seem like he brings enough to slot out anyone. Laz competes with Karlach who for now edges her out and Astarion is very solid when he can sneak attack and when you need skills. That's what I did.1 point

Lots of good outcomes include avoiding combat. But not as a whole up to act2, you'll be skipping a lot stuff if you absolutely avoid combat. It's a bit misleading, speed runners can reach end of act2 in 8mins, because a lot of the stuff is plain skippable.1 point

make bg3, bg2, bg1 with the iwd2 rules implementation would be something we would pay good money to see. aside, am knowing you dislike bards and perhaps if we saw bg3 implementation we would also like 'em less. however, we will observe the best bg2 stronghold quest were bard, but 'cause almost nobody played as a bard, all that content were wasted. last time we personal played a d&d bard were d20 and we thought it were fun. we also played and had fun with bard archetypes in pathfinder pnp: dwarven scholar & detective. we got good will built up for bards. converse, years o' pnp experience has resulted in our reflexive dislike o' druids, a class almost invariably played as some kinda annoying hippie wannabe or as a 20th/21st century ecoterrorist. if somebody says they is gonna play a druid as part o' a pnp group, it takes effort for us to stifle a groan. have never once seen somebody play a druid other than cliché or cartoon. drizz't mucked up the ranger class for many players, but to be fair, 2nd edition went all in on the drizz't silliness by adding dual-wield as a class feature. even so, were drow fan boys and not tsr who added lame to the class. ranger has been busted ever since 2nd edition. paladins is rare played well, but am admitting we has seen exceptions to a general trend. we ordinarily avoid druids, rangers and paladins in d&d crpgs cause o' our dislike o' how they is played in pnp... which doesn't actual make much sense. irrational doesn't change the fact we tend to avoid those three classes. HA! Good Fun!1 point

Bought the game. Played it for 20 minutes just to see that it runs Ok on my pc. Trying to get off some giant nautil (sp?), but will probably restart the game at some later point (putting a bit more thought into choice of race and class). More interested in my Lich run in Pathfinder and my current game of JA3 atm1 point

Sounds like something for fans to do with mod tools should they ever be released, maybe with AI voice synthesis. What would Larian's influence on an already fully-written game even be? Plus, from a selfish perspective, I kind of want them to get away from D&D. No doubt it's contributed to the commercial success of the game but it's more of a good game in spite of the ruleset, not because of it.1 point

Puttering away at work, going to have to wrap up shortly to head into the hospital to find out the latest on my father's scans and what the potential palliative chemo options are now. Might take a full flex afternoon off. Also, just had a post delivery. Got sent the anniversary tee by Obsidian because they picked my question. Nice.1 point
