It's unlikely that they'll join Russia, at least in the short term. The 1991 referendum formed the legal basis of the Crimean decision and for whatever international law is worth was legal since all the i's were dotted and t's crossed in terms of Ukraine approving it. Legally, Crimea left Ukraine then. Which is, of course, why it never gets mentioned in the media and they like to pretend that the only referendum was the 2014 one as they can legitimately complain about that one. What exactly the media think the 1992 constitution was that was referenced in the 2014 referendum and how/ why that option meant independence from Ukraine without referencing the 1991 referendum, who knows? Lugansk and Donetsk are at this point equivalent to South Ossetia and Abkhazia, intended primarily as leverage* in that they can ask to join Russia and be approved, but haven't. If they joined Russia it would be irreversible, as it stands it's still eminently reversible. Russia would probably still be happy with Minsk being implemented, but... Fundamentally the problem is that Minsk was signed when Ukraine was losing badly, and froze the conflict before it was decided outright. Of course Russia got most of what it wanted in those circumstances, since they could have just taken what they wanted. Now, Ukraine has had 8 years of being told how much better its armed forces are and how they'll get support from US/ UK/ Poland and Russia will have its economy destroyed if the conflict resumes; and domestically 8 years of being told how unfair Minsk is and how it was made at gunpoint. Any pressure from France and Germany to get it implemented is cancelled out by the support from others for it not being implemented. The only way it gets implemented is if there's enough pressure, and if there's a difference between the pressure required for outright war or pressure required for implementation it's very fine. From Russia's pov recognising independence gives Russia the benefits of Minsk without having to implement their side and increases pressure on Ukraine to fold on other issues. It's also gives a lot of difficulty to the west in terms of response; the hawk side will want a robust response** that promotes escalation (or to be more charitable, a desire to show strength in the supposed belief that it will de-escalate, somehow), the dove side will want a weaker response that leaves diplomacy open. *it's also unclear if the recognition is for the full oblast or just controlled areas. About half of each is controlled by Ukraine. That decision obviously provides further potential leverage **ironically, that's generally had a detrimental effect on Ukraine despite supposedly being supportive, which is why Zelensky has repeatedly tried to get the rhetoric turned down. It's all very well the US and UK shouting from the sidelines, it's not going to cost them anything being inflexible and inflammatory.2 points

Clearly cheese causing nightmares is not an urban myth, and those fatalities are caused by thrashing about during those nightmares, wrapping bed sheets about yourself and presumably your last thoughts being that you're getting throttled by an enormous anaconda*. Does being right handed make you more likely to get covid? The facts speak for themseves: 88% of people who have covid are right handed. Only 12% of people who have covid are left handed. That's an 8 fold difference. Quod erat demonstrandum, I think is the phrase I'm looking for. *no, people with dirty minds, not in the Sir Mixalot sense.2 points

https://osf.io/5gu8a/ Enjoy. Christof Kuhbandner is a professor of educational psychology, and of course a veritable luminary in the fields of epidemiology, virology, immunology and statistics. Or maybe not, maybe he's just an educational psychologist who based a problematic study on data not suitable for analysis and produced a hilarious example of spurious correlations. Or rather, it would be hilarious, if it weren't dangerous. Did you know that there's an almost perfect correlation between eating cheese and death by entanglement in bed sheets? I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions based on this data, I'm just going to say this one should be of much concern to you, I mean, you do eat a lot of cheese, don't you? Careful, I don't think companies making cheese are "legally responsible" for the deaths by entanglement they cause.2 points

Russian recognition of Luhansk and Donetsk republics has been officially announced. No details yet, but arming of the separatists should be expected at a minimum. Or they might skip a few escalation steps and move the Russian troops right in. This means Minsk accords are dead and dissected and EU will have to respond with sanctions. The only question being if they will go beyond symbolic ones.1 point

Approach the drake from the ramp to the upper right with one of your characters. Once combat starts, backpedal up and to the left where the tent is. Have Eder block the choke point while everyone else switches to ranged weapons. Take care to fight during the day, as I remember the panthers receive combat bonuses at night. Resting with food helps too, in the tavern you can steal several servings of Mariners' Porridge in a container next to the fire.1 point

this is the most reccurrent theory and one that doesn't really have an obvious contradiction, so it's something that seems relatively plausible to me. it's also uniquely a theory that doesn't involve someone having already bought the game. personally i really enjoyed the polynesian/age-of-sail setting, but maybe there was a bit better way to handle it when talking about it to the playerbase than "PIRATES". i'd be curious to know of the players who put off by their perception of the setting, what they ended up thinking about it after they actually played it (including yourself). did it end up being ok? not nearly as off-putting? or just as off-putting and you played through it despite it? or too distasteful and you gave up? i have a weak hypothesis that for most players who were put off by it, it wasn't nearly as bad as they thought it was going to be, which would say a lot of how important the right messaging/first-impression is.1 point

Russians claim to have captured a single PoW from Ukraines saboteurs. Probably some poor sod forced into theatrics, but uniform, Id etc can be verified. Although a better point would be made with those supposedly killed 5 UA soldiers crossing border with Russia, although such pictures in media would most likely get panic to 11, so they keep it to words only.1 point

No, my gaming machine is a desktop, one of Dell's Alienware series with a 24" 4K display. By 'miscalculate' I meant I'm wondering if I should've gone ahead and increased my RAM even though I anticipate buying a new machine in a couple of years. I also have a laptop provided to me by my employer, but that is not at all suited for gaming. And my employer being the state, they actually spy on us through the computer!!1 point

On another topic, today Trump's social media launches... I expect a spectacle in US media. Maybe finally they will stop fearmongering with war and will go to their tried amd tested Trump bashing... It will be an interesting area to watch. I think it will have a rocky start and will not be sustainable long term, esecially with its name... It'll go supernova, i.e. shine strongly and exploding initially, just to collapse on itself within 1-2 years. It will however cause spasm in the Twitter realm.1 point

Interesting. Education and wealth would probably be good caveats if you wanted, hypothetically, to explicitly discriminate against people of colour and women. The military caveat is a great way to discriminate against progressive politics. Over all, this would be a horrific example of voter suppression, so good job thinking of worse policies than the ones they're already implementing I guess.1 point

Where does it even tie to what I said? To be honest, I'm more in favor to the original concept of democracy from the ancient greece, than the modern abomination, especially in the US... To vote, you should have a decent education, gathered a certain level of wealth and have had a service record in your cointrie's military. To be able to be a candidate to some post, you should have some experience in either academic studies as a tutor or business, as n acomplished specialist in some field, in which you want to govern. I hate ignorant zealots, that have zero concepts of rational thinking, pragmatism and logic, and cannot do a proper math or do not know where countries are. Unfortunately the modern democracy became an impotent abomination which is abused by more and more ideological extremists from left and right side, and US is the worst in this... Looking at the last 30 years it seems the more autocratic China made the most progress and is becoming the top dog on the world stage. I'd rather have a better version of representative democracy, but one can only dream. The current version just translates to the rule of stupid, as the stupid people are most populous in society, hence they have most votes and can vote in various cretins into positions of power.1 point

My to do list is already massive, I don't know if I can fit the hack frauds into it. I remember hearing a joke about someone who had somehow only seen The Boss Baby comparing every single movie they hear about to it. I guess a lot of fandumb is like that, but the Whedonites (at least online) are probably the worst I've encountered. Even worse than Harry Potter or MLP. The forum software ate this post twice, it must hate our Aztec gym gods.1 point

Here we enter the world of pure subjectivity, and of course there's nothing wrong with that. But just to give a different take on these two games: I thought PoE was superb, and D:OS2 was utter rubbish. It is poorly written, doesn't look good, only has turn-based combat, and so on. It took me all of two hours to toss it aside, and I'm not getting back to it.1 point

That's Putins game, and he is making his intention clear to media, so France and Germany will make Ukraine to buckle in the talks with all 4 involved later today or later this week. Putin is setting ground for US humiliation, as he will get Minsk accord implemented and will give Frane and Germany to bask in light of countries who brokered peace in Ukraine with Russia.0 points

Space Cobra Episode XIII: "Shi no Rūretto" aka "The Roulette of Death" 6 months later, and Dominique has left to return to the Galactic Patrol. Lady brings a listless Cobra news a hijacking of gold, and he realizes that it has to have been hijacked by the head of Space Las Vegas, Hammerbolt Joe. It was an okay adventure, sort of a back-to-basics story after the grand adventure. But...0 points

Let’s go Brandon: Driver caught in unwinnable culture war I feel bad for this guy. He had just won his first NASCAR race and had every reason to be happy in the moment. The games are ok, but the shows are really bad. Unless you realize that the whole gotta catch em all was just Professor Oak getting Ash out of the way so he could **** Ash's mom. Some say it builds character, who is to say if it's luck or missing out on a milestone? It really is, I think s3 remains something I periodically think about. Too bad the US version edited out Beelzemon pointing guns at kids.0 points

With those system requirements, I wonder if the game is simply not optimized well. From the visuals at least the game to me didn't look much different than their last title -- kinda doubt the open world would cause that much strain.0 points
