  1. Hi folks. Long-time lurker here who’s benefited enormously from all the builds and advice on this board. After ~400 hours in Deadfire I recently completed my first Triple Crown (on the 4th attempt) and thought I’d share my approach for other pretty-good-but-not-great players who may be intimidated by that achievement (I certainly was!). Nothing here is particularly innovative and shouldn’t be surprising for veterans, but I haven’t found a complete guide like this anywhere. Cheers! General approach Stealthing solo through the whole game is possible and probably the quickest/easiest way to get the achievement, but I wanted to feel like I “earned it”. I don’t mind cheesing a bit (see Gaining XP below) but I did want to build a serious party and take on at least some of the tougher fights (dragons, high-level bounties, etc.). I didn’t attempt the DLCs or megabosses on my successful run because I was anxious about finishing, but I’d like to try that on a subsequent attempt. The hardest part of the Triple Crown is the Trial of Iron (permadeath). As an unabashed scum saver this really forced me to change how I play and basically everything below is how I adapted to it. Party composition Any build that works for a normal upscaled POTD playthrough can theoretically work here. However, if you’re a pretty-good-but-not-great player like me you want to err on the side of caution and build a party that’s as low-risk as possible. That means at least one dedicated tank plus a dedicated healer. At least two characters need revives so that if your healer goes down you’re not screwed. It’s worth equipping every member of your party with a Luminous Adra Potion as further insurance. Renewable resources should also be a priority. With a full party, fights don’t often last long enough to need them, but you can’t risk ending up in a long fight without abilities/spells. Alternatively, have a few get-out-of-jail free cards like invisibility that allow you to reset combat in a pinch. Inspired by this post, the party I used for my successful run were all multiclassed Fighters (Tacticians) that can reliably trigger Brilliant. Specifically I used: Watcher: Fighter (Tactician) / Wizard (Blood Mage) → damage, crowd control, debuffs or whatever else is needed in each fight (micro-intensive) Fighter (Tactician) / Wizard (Blood Mage) → wizard buffs + Citzal’s Spirit Lance + Cleaving Stance + Clear Out = main damage dealer Fighter (Tactician) / Cipher (Beguiler) → keeps all enemies flanked with Phantom Foes; additional buffs/debuffs as needed; uses The Red Hand for supplementary DPS Fighter (Tactician) / Paladin (Shieldbearers of St. Elcga) → main tank and backup healer, stacked engagement to hold down the front line (Kapana Taga for flank immune) Fighter (Tactician) / Priest (Eothas) → main healer, buffer and off-tank (Squid’s Grasp for flank immune) Yes, it’s a cheesy OP party, but sometimes you need to pull out all the stops! Happy to provide specific build details if anyone’s interested. Gaining XP In a normal run I enjoy grinding through the low levels, but with permadeath looming I had to adapt by rushing to a relatively high level before getting into any real fights. Here’s my strategy (requires Berath’s Blessings for Level 4 + 50,000 gold + Stormwind Sails + veteran sailors): Make Edér a Rogue and put all points into Stealth (and Smoke Veil to be safe, though you shouldn’t need it). He can easily sneak through the Sea Cave to rescue Beodul and through the digsite to get Oderisi’s notes. Go to Maje and remove all companions from your party at the Kraken’s Eye. You gain experience 40% faster when solo and you won’t need any help for a while. Might as well do the other quick Maje quests while you’re here (can’t sail anywhere without my boy Riggere!). Sail to Nekataka, complete The Shipwright's Plight, then buy a Dhow. Sail to Sayuka and buy three Royal Bronzers. Equip your hull/sails from Berath. Hire/recruit the finest sailors the Deadfire has to offer… or whatever you can afford. At this point you can comfortably win every single naval combat on the map (see this thread on naval combat tips). If in doubt (e.g., if your hull health is low or a ship starts sailing toward you to board), just retreat and try again. With Dhow + Stormwind Sails you almost always have the initiative. Sail around sinking all the named ships and visiting all the named map features for additional XP. You should also collect any freebies relevant to your planned build (e.g., Nalvi pet, Lord Darryn's Voulge). Cash in those bounties! Specifically, go to Aenia (Queen’s Berth), Barati (Kahanga Palace), Fleet Master Wakoyo (Brass Citadel) and Udita (Dunnage) who have all the ship bounties. At this point you should be around level 13 and that’s without doing any of the non-combat quests in Nekataka! You can tackle those now if you want (see these threads for suggested quest order) to gain another level or two. Once you’re ready to actually fight stuff (and ideally right after your Watcher has hit a new level), go ahead and hire/recruit your companions who will be one level behind. You can then circle back to low-level combat quests/bounties. Make sure to prioritize whatever gear you need for your builds before taking on any harder fights. By my 4th Triple Crown attempt, I was able to make it to level 13 in about 2.5 hours realtime. Since I was prepared for my runs to end at any moment, I didn’t want to waste any more time than necessary getting up to speed. Dealing with Expert Mode If you’re not used to playing in Expert Mode (where lots of useful UI features are missing), there are a couple things you need to get used to. The biggest one is not being able to see area of effect indicators. I died on one of my attempts because I accidentally aggroed the Nekataka city guards with a fireball while fighting Katrenn. For my successful run, I switched my main grimoire from Ninagauth’s Teachings to the Dusty Black Grimoire which has more single-target and Foe-only spells. Not having combat tooltips was also tricky, mainly for determining enemy AC and defenses at a glance. However, you still get most of that information in the combat log. In general, having the wiki open in the background is helpful to fill in gaps, especially for dialogue options. Also, the AI is your best tool for minimizing human error (e.g., you can set up your AI to use/avoid abilities based on enemy immunities that you can’t immediately see as a player). The More Custom AI Conditions mod is a true blessing, but mods certainly aren't necessary. Final thoughts By the time you’re level ~15 with all your core abilities and gear, your Triple Crown run shouldn’t feel fundamentally different from a normal POTD playthrough. By that point a solid party composition should be pretty resilient in any fights below your level (even with upscaling). You just can’t afford to make any dumb mistakes. Often I play with a podcast or movie running in the background, but for my Triple Crown runs I really had to be paying attention to avoid silly mistakes (forgetting to rest off injuries before a tough fight, picking a wrong dialogue option that triggers combat, etc.). It may help to actually write out a plan before you start your run. I know it sounds like homework, but I promise it’ll take less time than restarting after you get killed by Ateira (like I did on my first attempt). Knowing which quests and gear to prioritize (and in which order) will reduce the likelihood of a game-ending error. Final tip: when you do inevitably fail an attempt, I suggest sticking with the same party concept for the next run (with any necessary tweaks) so you can reuse your AI scripts and quest order. You’ll save time and you’re less likely to make the same dumb mistake twice. As I said above, I’m no expert at this game. Just an enthusiast happy to achieve this milestone. I hope this advice is helpful to others, and maybe even encourages other long-time players to attempt the Triple Crown for the first time. Next stop: The Ultimate!

  2. With the new update, there are new things, and the only one I see a problem with is the pebblet foundation. the only thing I dislike is the change of graphic textures of pebblet foundation and clay foundation. bring back the old pebblet foundation texture! The previous texture made it possible to "pave" certain areas and gave a pretty nicer look. With the new texture, it gives an effect that the surface is not completely flat, and is a bit distracting and weird. bring back the old pebblet foundation texture bring back the old pebblet foundation texture bring back the old pebblet foundation texture

  3. The ability to make glass out of sand in the oven when the sand box comes out. Would be awesome to build a greenhouse for our new gardens and maybe even add glass windows into the window frames we already have.

  4. I feel like we need some sort of a water craft like a canoe or a raft that we can use to transport recourses across the koi pond and such instead of having to use them to build a bridge first. Also can we have some kind of katana added? I noticed some of the armor has a distinct Japanese feel and I would love to complete that with a katana in hand! Katana could be made out of like bone with a mite fuzz/plant fiber wrapped handle and use an acorn piece for the guard. What do you all think?

  5. I mean, it's sorta weird that people need to be given reasons to wash their hands, but hey... Rona isn't one, though. Evidence of fomite transmission is weak at best. This doesn't mean it's impossible, but estimated to be unlikely in the order of 1 in 10,000. You can get some really nasty antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections from **** on surfaces though, so wash your hands despite the small risk of rona infection. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-00251-4

  6. Same. All our bases are over ground level to prevent bugs to enter them. I was looking forward to let some of my pets run around in my bedrooms. Therefore I would love the function to pick them up or moving them.

  7. I think a katana would be awesome! Also, with the latest update they allowed weed stems to float again, so it wouldn't be hard for them to introduce a weed stem raft. It would essentially be the same thing as the weed stem floor, only they would have to change the collisions to allow for the raft version to be built on water.

  8. I couldn't find answers on the Internet to some of my own questions, so I made some tests. I wanted to share my results. I hope some of them could be useful. 1) Enfeeble is applied to itself Enfeeble extends the duration of hostile effects. And enfeeble is an hostile effect iself. Enfeeble does extend its own duration. That means, for example, that Heart Seeker applies 30s of Enfeeble on non-resistant foes (without taking into account INT and PL). Additional tip : that also applies to Weakening abilities targeting vulnerable foes, which makes Toxic Strike extremely potent against them (since its damages increase with duration). 2) Stoic Steel can charge up before battle So if you start battle after 18s of immobility, you start with +3AR. I've never been aware of it before today. This makes Stealth interesting for Paladins ^^ Additional tip : some of the "teleporting" abilities such as escape don't cancel Stoic Steel. I haven't test all of them. 3) Gambit refund only works on first hit/main target Even if you use a multi-shot (classic blunderbuss) or AoE weapon (mortars), you'll get the refund only if 1st roll on main target. So to get the complete refund, you'll need to dual wield and score 2 crits with the 2 "main" attacks. It is still good to get some AoE crits, but don't except a refund. I haven't test it with WotEP. 4) Heart Seeker doesn't apply Bounce or AoE. I have tested it with Watershaper focus, and only foes in the ability line can be hit. There is no double hits due to Bounce or rod's AoE. 5) Whirling Strikes does apply Bounce. You need to equip a melee weapon to perform whirling strike. However, if you hold a ranged weapon in your other hand, you'll attack with it too, and it will even trigger Bounce with Driving Flight. This makes Melee & Ranged dual wield somewhat attrative for ranged, especially with Scordeo's Trophy. 6) "Thunder Rolled..." upgrade "...its crash could not be denied" apply a +15 Accuracy bonus, which is fine IMHO. The description does not specify it but you can read it by picking the ability and checking its accuracy before or during battle. 7) Unbending not triggered by Take the Hit Self damages from Take the Hit does not proc Unbending regeneration. It could have been a nice combo, but nay... 8 ) Garrote complete description The description is vague, so here is how it actually works : 6s paralysis (modified by INT / PL) as described. During paralysis, the target takes about 4 raw damages per tick (1s tick !), modified by MIG / PL. After paralysis, the target is prone (so the 3s Prone are added to Paralysis duration for the total duration of incapacitation) After paralysis, the target also received 20 raw damages, modified by MIG / PL. Overall, it sounds nice and scales quite well. On a Single Class Paladin with max MIG and INT, it does around 120 raw damages total. It might be nice with an Helwalker or a SC class Paladin (since DoT gets double benefit from PL and SC Paladin might get a lot of zeal to spend from Divine Retribution and downed summons).

  10. Well, yes, there's that - the average quality of the anime is really great, especially in the first arc. The Sakura card arc takes a couple of episodes to find its footing. What's your movie site?

  11. Sunny came trotting into the house with something special in her mouth: a full grown rat snake. It had coiled itself around her muzzle and was latched onto her collar with it’s mouth. Not sure who caught who! It took a few minutes and with a little cooperation from Sunny I managed to get the poor thing untangled without doing it any harm. I turned him loose in the barn. No doubt he’ll do some good business in there. Rodents are attracted to the chicken feed. That dog!

  12. In that case, the transcendent build can work if you go with FF/beguiler. I don't know how well it would work for a solo run however.

  13. ---far as I can tell, there's no photomode. Meaning no kewl closer-ups (without cropping I mean) and most of the time for combats I'm better off recording uber quality 4k videos and grabbing frames. ---without cheating I would've died 10000000000 times just in the intro stuff and deleted the game, HAHA ---I want to get to "visual wow" areas I've seen in videos so I may turn on the one-hit-kill cheat. ---all the jumping and cliff hugging slows me down/is annoying. Where is my fly cheat. ---patience is not my virtue these days

  14. Overall good, I would say, but then again not like I frequent anime forums that much. I would recommend it for the awesome animation if for noting else. I found the story engaging enough not to fast forward at all and that is pretty good in my book.

  15. Barbarians do have healing: Savage --> Stalwart Defiance. But it comes rather late for multiclasses - same as the Furyshaper's Fear Ward which also helps a lot with survivability. I just like the Witch's overall debuffing qualities, especially in combination with Spirit Frenzy which turns any offensive AoE ability into mass MIG/Fortitude debuff (which also removes any MIG inspiration on enemies on the fly). I don't think it's especially good as solo character though. I played a solo Furyshaper and it was fun (mostly due to Blood Ward) - but it wasn't great against Megabosses. The cipher part can surely help here but lack of staying power might indeed become an issue...?

  17. First of all, I'd only recommend that you play FF/SB if you use community patch. If you don't, you'd be better off with a beguiler for better focus generation, since the FF attack isn't considered a weapon attack, and thus doesn't generate focus, in the vanilla game. My preferred stat spread for this build is 15 STR 10 CON 15 DEX 18 PER 15 INT 18 RES with berath's blessings.

  18. A beguiler witch is a fun multiclass. You could either choose berserker or furyshaper as your barbarian subclass; both would bring a lot to the build. You could also try a forbidden fist transcendent. If you're playing the vanilla game, beguiler/FF would be the best option. If you like to mod, then I suggest a soul blade/FF if you're using community patch and also the no rest mod, to help you buff RES. I usually play this character with 15 STR, 10 CON, 15 DEX, 18 PER, 15 INT and 18 RES with Berath's Blessings. With 18 RES you can get to the max of 35 with a RES inspiration (easy to get with a cipher), gear and other bonuses, which are easier to maintain if you use the no rest mod.

  21. Here's my post from early June, or part of it, at least: There's something else, I think. I've watched the film after the entire run of the anime, which wasn't a great idea. It really is best before episode 43, and certainly 60. For reasons I can't go into because of spoilers. Really bad spoilers. The kind even you wouldn't want to know. Maybe I was too harsh on it. I did feel like it spent too much time on the storyline in an effort to be interesting for viewers that did not follow Cardcaptor Sakura at the time. I thought the second film was much better.

  24. Yes.....please, please, please change the agro and chase distance for the mosquitos. I've had one mosquito chase me across the backyard from the grill all the way to the rose bush. And the damage it did to the door and window of the house where I finally took refuge.......not even a wolf spider would have been that persistent or aggressive. Agro three together! There's no escape! I think I'd rather face down the brood mother!

  25. Yes.....I agree with you wholeheartedly! Both have a somewhat jarring, unnatural look to them. And completely out of proportion to the rest of the environment. The clay foundation appears flatter, which I am slowly beginning to appreciate. But the slick, smooth surface lacks texture and definition, appearing more like a slab of wet bubble gum than dry, hardened clay. And the size is huge. As for the pebblet foundation, the texture is still true to the original, but again, overly large and out of proportion with the actual size of a normal pebblet. Just drop a pebblet on the new foundation and you will realize why the new change is uncomfortable and strange. Suggestions: Keep the flat clay surface, but add more natural texture and definition. Break up the slab into smaller section or layers, especially on the sides. They can be irregular and interesting, but not one, flat chunk. Return the old pebblet foundation. It was perfect just the way it was. (It wasn't broken, so no need to fix it.)

  27. Well, if it is aliens, then abductions should be taken seriously and it is indeed the case to apologize to a lot of people. This channel has some interesting interviews with scientists from many different areas. In the one below, Michio Kaku speaks of the Tic-Tacs as if they are indeed alien. And there is another one with Avi Loeb, where he takes it seriously too. Let's see if others start to do the same, as it should be expected based on what Sam Harris said.

  32. ^ That Ford image reminds me of a video I watched this morning re: food industry (restaurants from fancy to fast food) having trouble getting people back to work for them. One place mentioned that in desperation, after getting zero applicants, they raised their starting wage by double - and suddenly had tons of people applying/wanting the job.

  33. How great working from home is/can be depends on the work itself. Not everything works well (or at least "better") from a work/learning/management and business point of view (vs. personal convenience re: commute/time etc). So ... just depends. What the pandemic has done tho is made more people realize/decide they like working from home over any other consideration, thus want a job where such does work really well. Hubby's company (a lot of engineer/land survey work, with gov. contracts) spent money on setting up "everyone" to work from home and said they were going to allow that even after the pandemic. Months later, they are now saying they've noticed a large drop in productivity (I do not know their definition of such) and are starting to push people back into the office. It's entirely possible they will allow people to work from home half the week and iin-office the other half, that type of thing. Like in-office M-W, or Tu-Thu. Or do shifts of some kind so half are at home, half in the office etc. No one knows for sure yet. Hubby loves working from home and with his specific tasks, he will get more done, quicker, when alone at home (or even at the office - he'd often come home then go back at night when everyone else had gone home to "actually get work done", hah) but even he acknowledges that he does not get the same kind of employee/co-worker input, co-ordination/communication and learning/teaching moments that way. So with his specific position (the IT guy who keeps it all background running) and his company, a middle ground can and likely will be reached. Companies need time to figure out what works best for them and employees. But again ... depends on your job. I think the vast majority of workers are going to find there are not enough of the type of jobs around where all that actually want to do so can work from home all the time. Unless you create your own job/entrepreneur, of course. Edit: productivity can also be affected because let's face it, there are a lot of people that without a structured environment, do not manage their time well - add on potential distractions of home/spouse/family etc and (can) get a fairly inefficient worker.

I know Foundation is considered more sci-fi iconic (never did read all that series, I found it kinda boring), but gosh darnit, when are they going to make something out of the Robot novels? Yes there was that old BBC thing but I didn't see it and it doesn't exist anymore. I would really like to see Elijah Baley, R. Daneel Olivaw and R. Giskard Reventlov brought to modern cinema "life" too. Daneel is the only reason I tried to read Foundation, eventually skipping over to just skim the later books that he was in. C'mon Hollywood (or someone....), gimmie Elijah and Daneel at least, please!

  37. How did I get dragged into Ark? For the longest time I thought it was just running around shooting other dudes and riding dinos. I guess I just found out you don't have to play it PvP. So now I'm doing singleplayer and cheating my ass off to avoid the grind. Just started taking down the bosses of the first map. It's actually kind of cool having an army of robot T-Rexes that you use to fight a spider queen.

I did get stuck on 1 puzzle for a bit, but that was down to my own hubris; I thought I figured the puzzle out before I even saw all the clues and then when my "solution" failed, I was so sure I was right that it took time to rewire my brain to see the actual solution.

  39. Some games are so perfectly balanced, a perma-death hard core mode is awesome. Subnautica is the best example of this. Subnautica focuses on survival rather than combat, and conflict avoidance is a sound strategy. Grounded is built different. It is combat-focused, and it is nowhere CLOSE to being balanced enough to make this a feasible option. Too many powerful insects to ever make this a realistic possibility.

  41. So far it's easily the most upbeat Lovecraftian game I've ever played. I like the aesthetic. I've long been a proponent of stylized art styles. They generally are less taxing on hardware AND can look better than realistic, provided it's a well realized and consistent aesthetic. As an aside, Nintendo, in particular, have a long history of having some of the best looking games in any generation and often on underpowered hardware, through the power of a great stylized aesthetic. Our heroine, Norah, is awfully chipper for someone whose husband is missing, has an unknown ailment, is all alone on a mysterious island, and who heard some weird alien (read: Old God) speech in a dream. Then again, she's on this amazingly lush and vibrant tropical island, which is a far cry from the foggy, dark, and dreary New England fishing villages I'm used to in Lovecraft. Maybe she'll change her tune later on in the game when (presumably) the Cthulhu intensifies.
