Hi everyone – just wanted to say hello and give you all some background on why I am posting, which is really just a way to promote homage to this incredible lineage of games. I am a 37 year old accountant living in Canada and I made a life decision whereby I only play video games during the Christmas break between ~20th of December to the first few days in the New Year. Anytime anyone ever asks me about video games, I, without any hesitation, declare the Baldurs Gate series as the best games ever made. When I was in my early 20’s I played Baldurs Gate I & II over and over again. I was always willing to try any other game that claimed to have in-depth storytelling and an immersive experience but nothing ever came close to the experience of playing the BD series. To me it is an expression of how much detail and rich experience can be built into a video game. For a variety of reasons I entirely stopped playing video games entirely sometime in my late 20’s / early thirties and in fact did not touch a video game for at least 7 years. While I was not gaming, I never forgot how much I loved the BG series and in fact I knew the Pillars of Eternity game had been released but I stayed away on purpose, committed to not playing video games. Last Christmas, I found myself with a lot of unexpected time on my hands and decided I finally needed to scratch my “Pillars of Eternity” itch and see what the all stories were about. Would it maintain the amazing BG lineage? I decided to find out and last year, during the Christmas break I installed POE and was AMAZED at how brilliant this game was and what a gift it was for all the folks who were adherents to the BG experience. I played thought most, but not all, of POE I last year and just 3 days ago, now that Christmas Break has started, installed POE II. Cheers everyone – these games have something to them that cannot be replicated.5 points

Salutations All Its mandatory to have a Christmas post over this festive time. What is everyone planning for Xmas and NY, this period is not just relevant for Christians but its where we can hopefully spend the time with family, friends or just relax with whoever we consider significant I am having Xmas in Durban with some of my direct family, this year most of family are going skiing in Lech in Austria so due to logistics and leave we not getting together at out beach cottage. I am not going skiing due to leave restraints so this Xmas I will be with some of my family. We going to be eating Turkey and Gammon as our main meal and for NY I will be flying to Johannesburg to see friends, we haven't decided what we will be doing yet So what is everyones plans and just as important what do you typically eat for Xmas and what do you normally do on Xmas eve and or day, I am always interested in these types of events Either way I hope everyone has a great time and here is to a good and prosperous 20203 points

Greetings employees of Halcyon, We want to take this opportunity to thank the incredible team behind The Outer Worlds. It is because of their hard work and dedication to this project that we received the Best Narrative, Best Performance - Ashly Burch, Best RPG, and Game of the Year nominations at The Game Awards. To all of those who voted for us in The Game Awards, you are all fantastic and we are so grateful for your support. The reception to The Outer Worlds has been unbelievable to see, and even just being nominated means a lot. However, the journey isn't over yet as we are excited to announce that we will be expanding the story through DLC next year! Details will be made available at a later date. Now we would like to allow our game directors, Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, to share a message with you all: We just wanted to personally thank our team for doing a wonderful job and our fans for their tremendous support. And Tim would like to say what an honor it was to work with me. – Leonard Whatever, Leonard. Now that we’ve finished, I expect that certain photographs will be destroyed, as per our agreement. – Tim1 point

Hello, loot, both containers and items on shelves and such used to be highlighted for me. This is not the case since recently (looks like since I applied the first patch but can't swear that it is the case). This is the case even when I install the armor mod which is upposed to highlight interactable items from further away. Is there something I can do to restore the previous functionality. I searched the settings for an option but couldn't find one1 point

Dual wielding is not 100% dps. That would mean that you'll get +100% action speed. But you only get +30%. Also speed modifiers don't get added but multiplied which means that 30% + 15% don't add up to 45%. You can look up the mechanics of action speed and recovery time in the pinned thread above by @MaxQuest. But you are still right that one handed weapon usage is inferior - at least over the course of a playthrough (generally speaking, there are exceptions like pistol + modal). In the early game it's quite good though. But it quickly falls behind. Don't know what you mean with "warrior class" when using Backstab as example (from Rogue class) - but generally you are right that those additive bonus dmg abilities do most for heavy hitters if you also look as resource costs. However, most dmg bonuses are of passive nature (MIG, weapon quality, Sneak Attack, Deathblows, Weapon Spec & Mastery and so on) and thus don't need any resources. So the dmg per hit doesn't matter (but dps). Most of the dmg bonuses on active abilities are simply there to balance out the missing Power Level bonus of low level abilites vs. high level abilites. Every damaging ability gains +5% multiplicative dmg with every Power Level. So low level abilites (which are used with weapons) will scale better than high level ones. To compensate for that the high level ones often get a +x% additive dmg bonus. This is not the optimal solution since it favors heavy hitters - as you said - but I guess it was the easiest solution. But still: those dmg bonuses on active abilities don't make up a big part of your overall dmg bonuses. Most are passive. So it's not too bad. There are some nasty ones though: Backstab is an especially bad case because it's a very high dmg bonus and usually only works very limited times per encounter. Same as Takedown Combo (+100% dmg) by the way or Lion's Sprint (here it's accuracy and not dmg). They are limited in use and thus you want to Max out the dmg per hit. This implementation favours stuff like arquebus and such and thus is completely unintuitive to use for somebody who associates Backstabs with daggers and such. Who really starts the game and realizes that Backstabs are best done with guns and two handers? That's why the Community Patch (see my signature) replaced the percentage-based additive dmg bonus on Backstab with a flat raw dmg bonus. So it doesn't matter which weapon you use. I do recommend that mod. It's conservative (no op stuff, even some nerfs) but fixes some issues with suboptimal or illogical game mechanics.1 point

I can't speak for the full theorycraft of single vs. dual wield (I believe DW is considered better), but know that you also get +12 accuracy for single wielding (no talent needed); nothing in the off-hand and not a two-hander. And yeah, you might find the game in general doesn't necessarily encourage stereotypical approaches.1 point

Beat me to it, Bruce! I made filet mignon for the outlaws by marriage today. 3.5 pounds of great beef. Tomorrow, have to roast the turkey. There aren't that many of us, so I figured a 13 pound bird would suffice. If only they'd let me make duck, but no. Been an interesting year, and I would say I'd be glad to see the backside of it, but I had a lot of milestones, so I can't let the bad think it won. I abstained from the demon rum tonight, but I'll be consulting the good doctor tomorrow. Dr. Johnny Walker. He's looking a bit Blue this year, and I think he's got the medicine I need.1 point

Evidence? If there were such evidence it wouldn't matter at all since the publisher entered into a contractual exclusive agreement with Epic for a certain period--in exchange for whatever money Epic promised them to do that--so unless there's a specific clause stating otherwise, if Epic sold a single copy a week--just one--it would have to pay the publisher the promised amount, and the publisher would have to take it. Such is the nature of this kind of nutty agreement. I could see a publisher taking this agreement if he had little to no confidence in the game selling well--but I think it would be a mistake in the case of a really good game that should sell well everywhere. In the case of a good game, then, ideally the developer would want to see it sold by as many reputable game vendors as possible, which would easily overcome being paid by Epic to sell from a single source, regardless of what Epic paid them to do that. People who buy games know these things--and are automatically suspect of any game Epic would have to finance partially, otherwise the publisher was running scared of it. One month's exclusive for a game like RDR2 PC is OK and understandable because it gives them a month to "beta test" the game with Epic PC customers and whip it into shape for the general release 30 days later. But a *year's* exclusive? Holy cow, Batman, that's cra-zee...;) That means that neither the developer or the publisher has much of an expectation of profit for that game--a year--man, that's almost too much dumbness to wrap your head around....;) Ok, quickly, let's look at it another way: Pillars of Eternity II. Feargus has been quoted complaining that the game didn't sell very well so he doubts anyone would want to publish a sequel. There's just one problem with that, though. PoE II, in the end, after a solid year of development after the first installment of the game shipped, when all installments were complete and the turn-based mode was also complete--was and is a truly excellent game. I think it's first-rate--better than the original in many ways. However...it was the release strategy of the developer, Obsidian, that killed the sequel, in my estimation. What they did wrong: 1) Took almost a year to actually complete the game so that a player could play it through from start to conclusion--ie, the second and third installments of the game should have been finished before the the first installment shipped. People don't much like serial movies anymore--same with serial games. 2) Turn-based mode--was great--had been asked for often for PoE. Should have been planned from the start. Game should never have been released without it. It took almost a year post release to get the game ship-shape. Simply put, the game was released far too early. People like me bought and liked PoE OK, but I didn't like the episodic drip-drip-drip release schedule for the game--I honestly would not have bought the first installment of PoE when I did--but would have waited until they'd gotten it all finished and reasonably patched before buying it--would have enjoyed it a lot more! So when PoE II was announced--no way was I buying into it early again! I waited until 5.0, almost, was out--hence my very high opinion of the game. But if Feargus and the guys aren't going to understand that PoE II was shipwrecked from the start because of the premature, unfinished release schedule of the game--then they clearly aren't going to address this kind of thing and may make these same mistakes in the future. Challenge for Obsidian: For God's sake do a PoE III--and bring the series back to the continent, please! The ships were a nice diversion--let's not get lost in them, however...;) This time, though, include turn based from the start and include all of the planned episodes in the first release of the game--all of them! Then later, if you want, do a worthy expansion--in a year or two...;) I'll bet it would be a walk-away best seller *everywhere* and not just from the Epic store--just putting it there is kind of insulting to some of us. *I love Outer Worlds, btw. Am playing via the Xbox PC thing through the Microsoft Store. It's on sale now for a price I agree with with--~$45...so I will probably buy it tomorrow for Christmas!* Would love to see a PoE III--but only if it's done right as mentioned above............!1 point

I'm on my 6th play through and current character's name is Isagel Aniara after the newly named extrasolar system HD 102956 and its known planet HD 102956 b, which in their term were named after a starship and its captain from the Swedish poem Aniara. Previous characters have been Stella Nova and Orion Boötes. Astronomy is the theme here.1 point

I went to the grocery store on Saturday so I'm not planning to leave home until I go back to work next year. Christmas with the pups. The conversations on this board are often funny. Frequently thought provoking. Sometimes sad. Even poignant every now and then. But they are always entertaining. And that is entirely because of the unique cast of characters that post here. You guys are all awesome. Merry Christmas and Happy 2020 to all of you and your families too!1 point

Christmas Eve (today) is going to be spent with a bottle of nice Cognac... The following days, hanging out with friends... New Years Eve... getting senselessly drunk. I've given up trying to get a hangover, so no sense in trying Nearest family is 20.000+ km away, so it is going to be a week of hanging out with the friends I've made down here. Which is not bad at all actually. Made some very good ones the last few years. Chinese (mainland and Taiwan), Serbians, Aussies, Kiwis, various parts of India. Interesting bunch Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone1 point

Minecraft. I got into it when my niece was a wee child. I didn't have time to play it for a long time, but I've recently come into a little time and I've been playing it a lot for the past few days. I want to create a huge subcontinent theme park. I've written *HUGE* glass and lava signs just for fun. Also, I've got over 700 games of Freecell on my tablet.1 point

I think it's a terrible idea for anyone to enter in a romantic relationship with their boss. And the walls in those cabins are thin, man. That said, Vicar Max is welcome to enlighten me any day.1 point

Been slacking a bit on taking screenshots, but since this thread's been lacking a certain something now, here we go: When playing solo I sometimes just teleport between bases, the neat thing is that the old location doesn't immediately unload, so you get a glimpse of how cool things could look with increase draw distance. The beams in the distance are caused by my Tier 3 Derketo and Set temples in my main base, usually these get unloaded (and indeed, they will be unloaded once the engine catches up), but for a brief moment one can get to enjoy what could have been... I've also been working on my fourth base now (hmm, come to think of it, I don't think I've posted any screens of No3, heh), since it's in a rather incomplete state here's a a distance shot (basically only part of the initial sandstone mockup is done, stability is iffy too, hence the holes). Figured I'd try my hand at building a pyramid, it's pretty big at 41x41 foundations, so yeah, will see where this ends Also not liking the new dodge changes, combined with the stagger changes from a few patches ago this makes it impossible to solo quite a few of the bosses, forcing even more reliance on the stand back, try to stay away, and let thrall fight "combat" style.1 point
