  2. So I have my bank send me auto-email info re: all online transaction records, right. I don't check or read them often. Opened one that was "purchase outside the US" today since those are rare for me, and didn't recognize the $$ amount number right away - the oddball purchase-location info was odd. Ran through company's official digital receipts for a while until I finally realize it was GoG. So hey, GoG, could you possibly do something about the scary sounding "Purchase location: at NAME NOT PROVIDED in WARSAW POL"

  3. Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin. The Iron Passage. It was a co-op area and I attempted to complete it with two NPC phantoms. They survived the first room, then I BC'ed them and went alone, dodging attacks, instead of fighting (except the priests, poison arrows were quite effective against them). I made it to the fog gate and successfully defeated the Blue Smelter Demon, though it took several attempts.

  4. I like Deadfire's approach in broad strokes because it "rationalizes" the system a bit more. I think the main problem was the instances where it was poorly balanced: for martial classes, most abilities should only be 1 resource with uncommon 2 and a rare more than that, which is generally true, but violations of that make the class seem overly constrained (corpse-eater barbarian and rogue mostly, paladin to a certain extent for all the high-level stuff but they could also regen their resource if single-classed). Also Brilliant was way better for casters than martial for a related reason. I think a way to fix the "ability economy" you mention would've been to let picking up a new martial ability grant you an increase to your power pool by +(ability_cost - 1). That way you're less incentivized to stick to a few cheap low level martial abilities all the time (especially for rogue where their abilities escalate in cost very very quickly), and each ability you pick up never gives you fewer uses of abilities (whereas in the rogue case, you could go from 5 encounter uses of crippling strike and/or escape to picking up shadowing beyond and suddenly if you use this shiny new ability you only have 2 crippling strke/escape left, for a net loss of two abilities per encounter just from trying to use a shiny new ability). From a "rationalization" perspective I also like Deadfire because sometimes the level-up choices in PoE1 seemed arbitrary in whether they were per rest or per encounter. Of course, Deadfire also threw that out the window a bit by having item effects be mostly per-rest but also sometimes per-encounter for Balancing Reasons(tm) *shrug*.

  5. During Nyoka's companion quest, Star-Crossed Troopers, I needed 3 pheromone glands. I got 2 and, on the third, the Primal jumped up right as I killed it, and the last gland went on top of a building where I cannot access the top (see picture). I have tried many times to climb it, but I cannot; thus, I cannot complete this quest. As a crazy completionist, i need to get it somehow. Thanks in advance.

  6. So I have been playing this game for several years. Loved every minute of it, limited minutes they may be with family, work, blah blah blah getting in the way. Bought PoE2 after release but my pc was borderline not meeting the minimum standards to run the game and trying to play it was frustrating. So I stopped until I would have a chance to upgrade my rig. Life has finally seen fit to allow me to concentrate on building a new desktop. I have ordered the parts and am waiting on the video card and monitor to deliver this week. Yay! New system should be valid for several years for gaming (Hopefully!). So, reading now I see PoE2 changed the combat system a bit and added a penetration piece to the formula. Can someone explain briefly - dissertation not required - the major differences?

  7. Sure, but you don't need to master them to do fine in the game. Until you try to tackle Adra Dragon, you can pretty much stumble through the game, even on higher difficulty settings.

  9. Ye i think what happens is people get used to D&D system and think its mimicking real world stuff but its not. its an attempt to abstract and systematize stats just like POE but does a worse job. However, since everyone is used to that system it feels like the standard and any adjustment feels wrong. But if you examine D&D stats they are just as absurd and abstract compared to real life plus they have so many class restrictions and exceptions built in, it makes for a far more confusing setup in a game for someone that has no experience with either system. I never played table top d&d but did play some of the older d&d games and POE stats were a breath of fresh air stats and ability wise. I tried playing Pathfinder Kingmaker blind and the multitude of trap stats and abilities is just crazy you have to meta d&d so much before even attempting to play it. for a table top game i can see the appeal but in computer game i just preferred where POE was going

  11. Apparently some people want to change the name of Thanksgiving. Must be the same people that keep breaking my builds.

  12. Yep. that Necklace was the issue It was a feature not a bug! Thanks for the advise on the update. I do have auto download activated. So not sure what's going on. this is the first time I've had the problem. I'll try and uninstall / reinstall.

  13. Potd is not that difficult especially with a party, I think normal is actually where the trap lies in both pillars, because it's ridicolously close to hard difficultywise, and people who pick normal most likely expect it to be way easier. (baldur's Gate normal is so easy one could beat it without ever having played a crpg before) Potd is easy compared to games with notoriously high difficulties like Baldur's Gate on LoB with SCS mod is almost on the Ultimate level difficulty wise especially if you try to set at least somewhat similar challenges (no reload and solo), while PotD with a party can just be solved with brute force and good equip, you don't even necessarily understand class combos and builds.

  14. In the context of just the Gallagher case posing with the corpse c\was what they call a "lesser included offence" Something prosecutors do in the event they can't/don't make the case for the bigger charges. This way they get him on something. It's probable the Court Martial would have liked to convict him on the bigger charges but could not in good conscience do so because of the problems with changes in testimony and other facts that raised credibility problems with the witnesses. It was not a clean case. Except for that one charge. Now as to why posing with a corpse in that way is bad, behavior like that gives the enemy a propaganda opportunity. It gives them a picture to show their people what barbarians they are fighting. One thing the US Military drills into all ranks from boot camp/basic all the way to OCS and from Private/Seaman/Airman all the way to General/Admiral is bearing and professionalism. Be composed, professional, and deliberate in all things you do. Even in combat. Acts of cruelty, barbarity, or even glorification of violence like this are what the Naval Service calls "Conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline".

  15. @rtokar: If you are on Steam you should have the latest version. You'd need to do complicated things to NOT have it. It's weird that you are at 4.something. Did you deactivate automatic updates? If so you can probably deinstall and reinstall and that should solve the problem. With cloud saves enabled your saves should be fine. You can also save them manually. Weapon bug: I guess you are wearing a certain necklace named "Necklace of Unlocked Possibilities" which summons a random unique weapon into the character's hands at the start of combat. Look for it. If you have it it's not a bug but a feature. If you don't have it then it's the weirdest bug I ever saw here and you would be the first one to ever report it. In this case: congrats!

  17. A Furyshaper/Beguiler multiclass seems like a perfect fit for the "witch" paradigm, and I like the Spirit Frenzy + Secret Horrors + Morning Star modal + Brute Force synergy. It sounds like a lot of fun. I think I'll try this, thanks!

  18. 64 core/ 128 thread Threadripper 3990X has also been announced. Has more cache than my Pentium III system had RAM. Guess there could be a 48 core 3980X still to come since there's a gap in the numbering scheme, but who knows.

  20. IF everything is true he is a real POS. But there are a lot of conflicting stories. Plus the US Military is not at all hesitant to throw one of it's people under the bus over the mere appearance of wrong doing. I saw that happen with my own eyes. So I can't say what Gallagher did or did not do insofar as shooting civilians. His own people turned him in but a court martial did not convict. Posing for pics with a corpse is a weapons grade stupid thing to do because it give propaganda material to the enemy. Losing a rank is usually the least of a court martial conviction so IMO he was lucky that was all that happened. As for losing his Trident pin, who is or s not a SEaL is entirely the prerogative of the commander of the SEaLs. They can kick anyone out of any reason or none. In this case at least there was a good reason. So Trump stepped on a lot of toes here. And yes he is within his power to do so it would have been wiser if he hadn't. The worst part is you are right on target about this action appealing to a certain voter base. In fact if everything Gallagher did were proven true I'm afraid most of them would be cool with it.

  21. Stalwart is a good example: it has quests, but not in x districts and not a ton of them. It can be a hub, with shops, tavern, healer and so on, nothing against that. But I share the same feeling as wih above: you enter Neketaka and suddenly feel demotivated, even disoriented. It would be nicer if quest lines would slowly unfold and bring you to places of the city. Instead, you can go everywhere you please and grap quests. dozens of them - no need to finish anythng before picking up the next. I'm no a big fan of that.
