Hurlshort Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 (edited) Congrats and commiserations to TN. Alan Thicke passed away of a heart attack. He died playing hockey with his son, which is pretty much the way I'd want to go as well.Might be a bit upsetting for the kid, no ? The kid was 19, I believe. Maybe a bit traumatic, but I'm sure the kid realizes his dad died doing something he loved. Edited December 14, 2016 by Hurlshot 1
Azdeus Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Congratulations TN! 1 Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Maybe a bit traumatic, but I'm sure the kid realizes his dad died doing something he loved. not to be too grim, but alan didn't die playing hockey. he died o' a heart attack. weren't as if he were skating and sudden dropped dead with a smile on his face. likely fell to ice clutching chest or arm. unable to breathe. confused and in pain. bystanders feel most helpless as the heart attack victim grimaces and moans and desperate grasps for help which will not come in time. if we were to die o' a heart attack, we wouldn't want family or friends 'round who would likely second guess themselves for not recognizing signs or failing to get help. have watched the final moments o' a heart attack victim... twice. violent. desperate. fearful. am s'posing there is folks who can die o' a massive heart attack like in movies where they just kinda slump to the ground and exhale one final painless breathe. such gentle passings ain't in our experience. now the linda mccartney death sounds a bit more peaceful. she rides horse with family and then s'posed dies... of cancer. got somebody with stage iv cancer who is nevertheless able to enjoy a horse ride is unlikely to die from cancer on the same day. maybe had some assistance getting past the ultimate threshold? even so, sounds relative nice even if a bit contrived. Bartimaeus Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Sorry for your loss. Quote How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart. In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.
Gfted1 Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Did he have PTSD? "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Gromnir Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 condolences. so often the people who are most in need of help are the individuals least likely to ask for it. it is so pointless to find out afterwards just how bad a person was hurting. teknoman2 Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 all this talk of global warming and it feels more like we are heading for an ice age than a perpetual summer The words freedom and liberty, are diminishing the true meaning of the abstract concept they try to explain. The true nature of freedom is such, that the human mind is unable to comprehend it, so we make a cage and name it freedom in order to give a tangible meaning to what we dont understand, just as our ancestors made gods like Thor or Zeus to explain thunder. -Teknoman2- What? You thought it was a quote from some well known wise guy from the past? Stupidity leads to willful ignorance - willful ignorance leads to hope - hope leads to sex - and that is how a new generation of fools is born! We are hardcore role players... When we go to bed with a girl, we roll a D20 to see if we hit the target and a D6 to see how much penetration damage we did. Modern democracy is: the sheep voting for which dog will be the shepherd's right hand.
ShadySands Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 I saw a few articles about how the warming may be causing the colder winters but of course I didn't actually read them so I have no idea what they say Free games updated 3/4/21
Azdeus Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 Well, climate is tricky, that's why they call it climate change. The temperatures isn't the only thing that is going up, but the frequency and amplitude of storms too. And we do get peaks and valleys, but the long term trend is going up. (Wish I knew how to extract that from twatter, but *Shrug*) I have'nt read much about it lately, since Trump won most I've read has been all about his idiotic policies regarding to climate, but since March this year, every month has been a new record in global average temperatures for being the warmest since we started measuring. It's bad. :/ Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L.
