LadyCrimson Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Don't know if this has been posted. About time someone thought of making an alien game survial/horror. Looks like this is what replaces 'our' cancelled alien RPG. Gives me a bit of the early System Shock2 vibe, in the creeping around wondering what's around the corner dread, while knowing what's around the corner is very likely to rip you a new one. The interview sections in the vid were boring, but the bits of game footage have promise. I'd agree with Keyrock about the motion tracker - if that's your main tool and used well to give a sense of anticipatory dread, it could be cool. I was not terribly pleased, however, when they brought out ... the flashlight. I had enough of the flashlight in Doom3 or Doom4 or whatever it was. In small doses it's fine/cool ... but if it's something that feels too fabricated and you end up feeling completely dependent on it the entire time, so there can be a plethora of 'total darkness jump scares' it gets old. Depends, of course, but in action games I tend to find it a cheap trick after a while. And of course, Alien the franchise has not had good luck in the game genre ... kinda like the Star Trek franchise. So while this early bit looks intriguing, it's a very long way from making me go "yeah, this is it!" “Things are as they are. I still get a bit uneasy when I have to crawl in air ducts in games
Lexx Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Indeed, but that probably was the only good Alien game so far. Alien Isolation is from Creative Assembly, by the way. So everyone should expect a super buggy game on release. :> "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
AwesomeOcelot Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Alien 3 on the Mega Drive was a good game.
Keyrock Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 There have been good Alien games, there just have been a lot more misses than hits. RFK Jr 2024 "Any organization created out of fear must create fear to survive." - Bill Hicks
Hurlshort Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 The only Alien game I remember enjoying was the mod for Doom.
Raithe Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 The original Aliens vs Predator was a very good game. If you turned off the lights, put on the surround sound, and played it as a Marine, that was a game that could really make you twitchy. 2 "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum."

So while this early bit looks intriguing, it's a very long way from making me go "yeah, this is it!" Star Trek has had some good games, ST: Bridge Commander being the best, I really enjoyed the Elite Force games, the Armada games, 25th anniversary and Birth of the federation too. Hell I even gone enjoyment out of ST:Legacy. But then I'm a Trekker.

Mamoulian War Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 It's true about weapons. The second Penumbra game was far more terrifying than the first because I wasn't preoccupied with trying to hammer the enemies to death. Just having a weapon puts a player into a mindset that says "I have this weapon, I should fight the enemies", take away the weapon and the thought barely crosses the player's mind. I hear you but I would still prefer a weapon ( those pig men need to die), it can still be very scary and tense with a weapon. For example what about striking a balance between a FPS and a game like Amnesia where you have a weapon but only 12 bullets? You should play first Alien vs. Predator game on hardest difficulty... That's the game you are craving for... 2 Sent from my Stone Tablet, using Chisel-a-Talk 2000BC. Chilloutman Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 It's the porno-ish cooking rhythym game you've been waiting for! http://www.destructoid.com/dekamari-senran-kagura-is-a-rhythm-cooking-battle-game-268672.phtml Senran Kagura is getting three brand new games, you perverts. Dekamori Senran Kagura is the most absurd of the bunch (which is saying something). It's a rhythm cooking game for the PlayStation Vita and PSP, categorized as a "hyper big-breasted cooking-rhythm game" according to Famitsu. Expect this one to be released in Japan on March 20. Finally, something comes along that almost gives me a reason to get a Vita. Almost. Ah, Japan. Thank you for being Japan. Whoo, I know that Japan got some weird anime games, but this is some new level. I would actually enjoy cooking game for first time of my life! Why there are not more games like this promoted in Europe I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Rosbjerg Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 Kinda like Descent The Game. But I love that modern game development is reaching the modern indie movie potential. In terms of quality of production, story and availability of cheap tools. Fortune favors the bald.

Bos_hybrid Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Star Swarm demo Sins of a Solar Empire and Galactic Civilizations publisher Stardock are helping fund a new engine from a small studio called Oxide. We got a glimpse of the engine at CES, and it only made us more excited for the future. There are a lot of great engines out there, but a lot of them are built for FPSs. We wanted to build an engine that could display thousands of units at once." And Oxide has achieved just that. The demo we saw featured nearly ten thousand units and hovered around 30 frames per second the whole time.
