Guys most of you have probably heard the bad news by now that it appears there will be no Romance in PoE

You can always play out pretend romances with the characters in your head.  Heck, you can even use props like dolls or action figures.  You can make it work, I have faith in you, Bruce.

That's fine, we can deal with it and I'm confidant PoE will still be a thoroughly engaging and entertaining RPG. But this disappointment does make DA:I even more appealing than it already is :dancing:

No.... no romance?

Evidence. I demand evidence, dammit.

Monte

I can guarantee you that you are going to be one of those people who will really miss Romance when you realize it doesn't exist in PoE....but by then it will be too late :wowey:

Yes, this forum used to be full of Bioware fanbois. I was a Bioware fanboi. The disdain for Bioware you see here (from, I reckon, about half of the forum) grew slowly as we saw a once great company degrade into what it is today.

Likewise. It's hard to remain a fan if all you get is crap.

I base companies on their work. If it's good, they get better in me eyes. If not, they don't. If it's terrible, I'm going to like them less.

All BioWare needs to sway is a good title. But I have more of a feeling DA:I will turn it to the "like them less" spectrum...

I have some optimism that the Bethesda/Nexus modding... I hesitate to say "community," but... whatever that particular group of person-like organisms constitutes, I don't think they're going to be particularly interested in PoE.

Simply because there's little/no potential for making pornographic mods.

Maybe I'm just too optimistic, as shows in so many of my posts.

With respect to Morrigan, part of the advantage is that Jessica already dressed up as Morrigan and could already pass along the information. It's not like it was work intensive for her to basically share how she made the costume.

If you consider this "coaxing" as opposed to "here's the blueprint in case you're interested" then fine. Jessica's job focus is literally on the BioWare community and is an avid cosplayer herself, so to suppose that it's presumptuous that people will "automatically cosplay" the characters, and that they haven't already inquired is perhaps jumping the gun somewhat on your own part. On the last day at PAX, BioWare held a session for cosplayers to come and hang out and show their costumes off (BioWare or otherwise) and the room was filled to capacity.

As for designing costumes with some cosplay feedback, the only thing that's going to do is result in costumes that are actually physically possible and less overtly physically impossible or just impractical (Armor plates on the bum may seem like a good idea at the time...).

Though I agree with your post, I sometimes really wish BW would go back and focus more on, you know, the gaming aspect of the games and less on the marketing/pr/community management BS. This is from an outsider's perspective, obviously, and there are signs that there is more going on under the hood (I remember reading some interesting posts by a gameplay designer for ME2), but the apparent focus on stuff that is, at best, ancillary and should be taking a back seat to gameplay is style over substance. It's made even worse by the fact that practical applications of the principles of "engaging the community" and "listening to fans" usually amount to nothing and sometimes backfire—I'm thinking of the "heal to full" and "the endings weren't universally disliked" debacles as examples, but they aren't the only ones.

I don't know how much of that is attributable to being "a division of EA", and at the end of the day, I don't care. From their track record, it's plain that EA has only one aim and that is making these numbers with all their games. It's a legitimate goal, but one that unfortunately precludes them from making the kind of games I'd enjoy best. Now, I had a lot of fun with the ME3 trilogy and I knew what I was getting into, but the replay value is frankly low. Call me old fashioned but I don't need to be playing a brand new, cookie-cutter, completely forgettable game every other week; I can be entertained for months on end with the same game if it's good enough. Obviously that makes me a non-ideal customer in the eyes of corporations whose business model is based on churning out a new(?) sequel every two years.

Though, judging by the crowdfunding phenomenon, maybe I'm not the only one. ;)

Whoa, that ended up being more of a rant than I had intended. Oh well, nothing new under the sun.

Dunno, I would have thought that most of the marketing would be done by a separate team from the development, that is what you have marketing teams for after all. Developers would do some stuff of course, like dev diaries type stuff, but the only person referenced with respect to the cosplay stuff is the community manager, which is probably a specifically marketing rather than development role.

I guess that in theory that does use money that could be used to improve the game by employing another artist or dev- but equally, in theory, it ends up generating more profit from the game to offset or exceed the cost of the marketing...

It depends on what you're marketing for, the target audience and is the money going into cosplay marketing by the company a worthwhile endeavour if cosplayers are going to cosplay anyway? Regardless if there was marketing or not. You already have cosplayers for video games, anime, movies, tv shows, comics, toys, but I don't see their marketing departments spending the money to target cosplayers and releasing dress patterns so the cosplayers can get it 100% right with their costumes. Those companies seem to do alright with how they market their goods without having to spend money to target cosplayers or cake decorators.

I still haven't been paying attention to this game. I'm going to spew some generic statements about sexual relations with large horned women and imitation of Skyrim.

Generic statement about porking a Qunari female. Skyrim.

That said, I still will buy and play this game on PC. You can't ask for a better endorsement, Bioware. I mean, you can, but you won't actually get a better endorsement. Why do developers whose company names start with 'B' invite so much vicious criticism yet manage to get the criticizers to play their games for many more hours than is healthy?

Also, marketing buzzwords (on topic.)

I'd actually like to hear the testimony of the people who whacked off over a puny character model viewable only at a 3/4 isometric perspective. You'd think someone with such a vivid imagination could construct the whole deviant scenario in their head. It would constitute a significant contribution to the field of abnormal psychology.

I should say something positive; at least they aren't Sonic the Hedgehog fans (can of worms: OPEN! Please nobody actually take up that subject, it was jest, those people belong under their rocks, never to be seen by society.)

I usually recommend that they go to a porn site and pull one out if they really enjoy doing that. It is quicker, much less disturbing, and will provide them with a better view.

Call me crazy, but I think this discussion is actually perpendicular to the thread's original intent. Not that I care, I'm all for making fun of people. Let's talk about imaginary copulation with large grey horned persons, or people suffering from dwarfism and excessive facial hair growth. That is tame compared to the Bioware Social Network (aka forums, which are not a social network in the common definition, whole other subject.)

Funny enough that's true, I've used "intense" adult mods in games like FO:NV that includes full nudity, extra dialogue lines and enhanced sexual actions but I don't do it for real life sexual gratification. You do it for the RP experience. In other words if you consider your character is living in this post-apocalyptic world  where mankind has been wiped out and death awaits at every corner you don't think he is also going to have sex with prostitutes and lecherous women. If your character can indiscriminately slaughter bandits and mutants he can also have enhanced, adult sex experiences. I don't consider sex as deviance. Sorry

But for me if I wanted really get some kind of sexual gratification through the Internet I would go to an Adult entertainment website. I don't think people use Adult mods because they "want to get there rocks off"

Call me crazy, but I think this discussion is actually perpendicular to the thread's original intent.

It is very useful advice. If some of the more....enthusiastic individuals took five minutes of watching a video to get their desired stimulation rather than spend roughly 40 hours playing a game they wouldn't bother with if it weren't for desired stimulation, they would be saving themselves a lot of time and hopefully use that time to not post frustrated sexual desires on video game forums.

Games don't tend to handle multitasking well though. So for a properly elegant solution, you'd need an ingame browser. This can be justified in-universe for contemporary and future settings (why do you think Shepard has a private terminal?), but somewhat difficult to implement in traditional fantasy.

I can understand the hate from the Call of Duty comments, but it only means they want a universal hit. Which isn't a bad thing at all. Everyone should be aiming for that. It all really stems from "stop liking the things I like!"; no really, it does.

The real issue here is that there's no real formula for a Call of Duty.
