Nonek Posted February 13, 2014 Share Posted February 13, 2014 For the court yes, but being rained upon, trudging through mud in those high heels, being splatted by great waves of blood as is usual in Dragon Age, getting stabbed and what have you would make that utterly ridiculous attire, fit only for an idiot. Hopefully the young lady will change when venturing out with the protagonist, maybe some sturdy warm leathers and wools that fit the climate rather than the court. I certainly hope they're not going to depict women as morons who can't even dress properly again, it would be rather telling. Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. Developers would do some stuff of course, like dev diaries type stuff, but the only person referenced with respect to the cosplay stuff is the community manager, which is probably a specifically marketing rather than development role. I guess that in theory that does use money that could be used to improve the game by employing another artist or dev- but equally, in theory, it ends up generating more profit from the game to offset or exceed the cost of the marketing... Jessica Merizan is definitely not an active developer on the game itself. With regards to the content presented, a t-posed model of Morrigan is not difficult to create (since it already exists) either. We could view her in the toolset or in game, whichever you prefer! I cannot imagine this being anything but low-cost. I wouldn't be surprised if the concepts already existed in some capacity too. It depends on what you're marketing for, the target audience and is the money going into cosplay marketing by the company a worthwhile endeavour if cosplayers are going to cosplay anyway? It's literally a consumer goodwill thing. Making a blog post is not super intensive work, and for some of the fanbase it's a "hey thanks for this I appreciate it." Those companies seem to do alright with how they market their goods without having to spend money to target cosplayers or cake decorators. It comes down to "how much money do you think was spent on this?" Or time, if you prefer, since in video game develop the adage of time equaling money is pretty fair IMO. It was more straightforward and there was no need for silliness in the vein of "press a button and something awesome happens!!1". Of course, the job of marketing types is to sell—not only to the public, but to potential employers... I dunno. Simpler times, man. I actually agree that marketing is a bit too much (for all games, not just ours). But to be honest, marketing seems like such an engima to me because it's one of those things I don't know how you can verify. Game sold well. Good game, or did marketing help? I have no clue!!! :S So when it comes down to it I don't think that this particular issue is a big deal, and it is probably cost effective because I cannot see it costing much or taking much time and I doubt it's even really aimed at the cosplayers themselves, but at getting articles and images out on the web about DAI. Knowing Jessica, I wouldn't be surprised since she is a huge fan and participant of cosplay herself. Though justifications for doing so in that it becomes a way of getting some exposure for the game for something that is mostly pretty "fan oriented" (IMO anyways) likely doesn't hurt in deciding to go forward with it. A genuine question. It can't just be me. I see other games with cosplay, Diablo 3 springs to mind, where the participants are clearly just having a lot of over the top fun. There's a sort of tongue-in-cheek irony to it. Almost infectious, even. I can see the appeal. But the Dragon Age / Bioware types seem to serious. So earnest. So needy. So... strange. I think the people in this forum imagine Bioware fanboys (ie. anyone who hasn't publicly disavowed them) along the same lines as KKK members saw black people in the 1950s. Or, the person you describe, and the aspects of the game you refer to, either don't exist or aren't there in the amounts you imagine them to be.
