What You've Done Today - Keep Dreaming...

I have a 6th or 7th edition set of rulebooks lying around, that I've never read.

Last version I knew (and played, even if only twice) was 3rd edition, and that was so horrible that my gaming group dropped 40k like a hot potato at the time. Since then, I stopped playing 40k and just played Warhammer Fantasy for a number of years afterwards. Right up until GW killed off Warhammer fantasy, which was a sad day 😟

As for 3D printing, caution is advised. GW's lawyers are as bad, if not worse than Disney's lawyers, regularly scouring the internet. I have a bunch of generic scifi landscape bits and a few custom space marine compatible hands printed (one fist showing the middle finger at the enemy and one fist wielding a coffee cup, because I just thought it was just too hilarious)

Stealing troops is the wrong word. What Alpha Legion does is infiltrate other legions, letting their own men act as if they were part of those legions, getting training, gear etc. Like a cuckoo (then returning "home" when the legion calls) 😂

It's quite telling, that in the chart of compatible allied units, they stand out as the one legion with no close friends (being a legion of spies, sneaks, assassins and saboteurs)

They are known to make use of normal humans to infiltrate human societies and found cults that worship whatever the legion pretends to be. stirring up social unrest and causing entire societies and cultures to collapse without a single legionnaire ever setting foot on the planet. Fight smarter, not harder.

There is no such thing as a "Devastator Squad" in Horus Heresy, but they have a close equivalent in Heavy Support squads, which can have 5-10 marines with a particular heavy weapon (say 10 lascannons or 10 heavy plasma cannons etc.). But White Scars don't really want that many guys on foot in the first place. They are all about skimmers, bikes and assault vehicles.

I did read through 6th edition if I remember correctly, I have read through all the Fantasy Flight pen and paper rule books though :p None of the campaign books though. But GW killed off that partnership ofcourse, because it was good stuff.

As a fan of "if the emperor had a text to speech device" (If you don't know of it, you should look it up, it's... *Chefs kiss* Amazing) and other Warhammer fan works, I am legally obliged to say that GW sucks major ass. Easilly the equal of Disney and Take-Two in their dickishness.

Heh, they're worse than Dark Angels, and that's saying alot :p One thing I really love using Alpha Legion for was as final adversaries in campaigns for Dark Heresy, they fit it to a T with building their cults.

Well, White Scars wouldn't deploy heavy support squads either lorewise, gotta go fast! And skimmers, bikes and assault vehicles are too damn fragile nowadays for them to be worth the points :(

Man, thanks for all the kind words. But yeah, these past few months have been crazy. People are now resorting to hit and run tactics. Stab a security guard to death and run away...

Of course, the government caught up with two of them and executed them. The current government ain't gonna last till spring though. I think in about a month or so they(probably Israel or the U.S) are gonna declare a 'no fly zone' over Iran...that's when things will get interesting because a lot of the officials where booking flights for Venezuela.

Heads will start rolling on the streets in a few weeks, hopefully not mine...

I check the boards every three weeks or so, so don't feel worried if you get delayed replies folks. It's just that there is so much to do and to know right now, message boards aren't exactly a priority but you folks know how much I love you. Also, what's up with Guard Dog? Whatever it is I hope he is still in one piece. Once this whole mess is over with the Islamic Republic of Iran, I will invite all of you folks to my place for some nice homemade beer.

Cheers.

Egg shortage around these parts, due to avian flu and new chicken housing requirements as CO is moving towards cage free only eggs, which sucks for me because I've been having scrambled eggs with ajika every morning for a couple of weeks now. I don't normally eat breakfast or even lunch but I had some meds that required food and I had to take them first thing in the morning. Was just some steroids that my dermatologist prescribed me because my skin broke out in Trill spots but now I've gotten used to eating in the morning and now I'm hungry when I wake up when before I wasn't.

Yeah, egg prices have gotten pretty crazy. I think I've mentioned it here before: no eggs means Bart starts eating people. Protein is the only worthwhile food, and eggs are the king of easy, flexible protein that can be used in a wide variety of ways.

I've been eating a bowl of full fat greek yogurt (unsweetened) for breakfast because of time constraints and being lazy. Not nearly as versatile as eggs and not super tasty, but a nice bulk of protein to start the day. There's also the good ol protein supplements made from processed whatever that are a stable of my ****ty breakfasts.

Apparently the void that devours posts is much hungrier than I am.

Fun times, isn't it.

Eggs..no shortages here but they've definitely gone up in price, but so has most everything else grocery store wise past 6-12 months. Feels like what used to be $100-$120 total now ends up around $180-$200. Some annual inflation is one thing but that much in such a short time certainly hits the wallet. Especially since I can no longer subsist on a diet dominated by dried ramen and/or rice or a sack of potatoes/bread/beans as filler with maybe a little cheap protein on the side. On the other hand, 90% less snacking ends up a little cheaper in that way, so maybe it balances out.  lol

Got back home.

With the combination of rail strikes, bad traffic, accidents, weather, etc... It took me 7.5 hours to go from stepping back onto English soil to arriving at home.

Also, San Diego and Wildomar have been pretty much London weather the past 3-4 days.

And American children are like ravenous piranhas when presented with Cadbury chocolate.

Had about 4 hours of sauna and cold dips in the lake with a couple of mates, it was lovely, but I wish I could've had some drinks. 😄

Continued failing dry January. Craving Lagavulin to boot.

I kinda want several of those Amazon security drones so I can pretend I'm a Shadowrunner or something.

Probably going to hit a few Yuropean markets later, need to restock ajika and get some pelmeni for my wife.

Happy Christmas to those who don't like to update their calendars!

Constant on and off rain, with a lot of very gusty winds periodically. Us and the neighbors have the long, cheaply-constructed plastic-squares patio shade covering thingies, with none of them being new or in great shape, and you can often hear them loudly rattling with big winds. This evening most of the right-corner plastic squares on our patio cover blew off. We wanted to replace the whole patio cover next summer anyway so less work for us! One neighbor's was already very badly wind/weather-damaged, I wonder if it's totally stripped now. Too dark for me to tell, heh.

...at least the power came back on quickly.

Slowly re-adjusting for time zones.

Dealing with all the laundry and such from travels, and also trying to catch up on a few things as it goes.

Thought I'd try running a print but apparently the jetlag stopped me realising I hadn't quite put in enough resin before printing... 😄

For about a week or two now I have been looking into H0 model train stuff. I'm at a point now where I am seriously considering if I can make space for something. Just throwing around random ideas in my mind, scribbling down some possible layouts, etc.

A part of me still hopes that I will drop that idea again, because the costs will be astronomical. 😄 The cool trains alone are already in the 200 to 300 bucks ballpark. Then the rail layout will be very pricey too, depending on the amount of switches and special pieces. And that's just the bare minimum -- would have to build a custom table for the setup, deal with the electrics, just get things running.

Not to forget the amount of research I still have to do for this. It would be quite a big project that would occupy me for a couple years for sure.

I have a lot of H0 trains/track/switches/buildings/transformers passed down to me from my father. Really nice stuff that I fondly remember playing with as a child. Its all dutifully packed away in storage not having seen the light of day in decades. I love it, I just dont have anywhere to set it up. ;(

I helped a friend out a bit with his car build. It's fairly a fairly modern car, and he's ripped out all the old electronics and is putting some new stuff in. So... I messed with it a bit. I loaded up a new indicator sound effect for him...

Yeah. I'm five.

His own fault for using computerized indicators instead of proper relays 😄

am sympathizing. we don't even bother working on any american vehicle built more recent than 1988.

I'd generally agree, though I refuse to work on anything newer than a 98 Volvo. The 940 series is practially 80's tech in all the ways that count. In this case though, I could do 99% of the work from his computer and then bringing an USB stick to the garage and injecting it through a service computer. I don't even know what car it is since there aren't any badges on it and some flared bodywork and spoilers. 😄

The only impressive thing he's done is make it rear wheel drive, that got me to raise an eyebrow.

keep in mind is not that we got any kinda bias against newer autos. the harsh reality is our skillset is insufficient to be doing much more than change oil and windshield wipers on cars built in the last decade.

our first autoshop lesson from high school were taking apart a briggs and stratton lawnmower engine and rebuilding. as you might imagine, there were no computer on the lawnmower engine. if am faced with an ignition issue, our reflex is to look to the distributor. etc. am so last century it is painful.

To be fair, I doubt your skillset is the actual problem. It's not that much different than what used to be around in a way, the problem is telling the computer in the car afterwards that you've done something and that things aren't broken. I have an aquaintance that changed a broken sensor on his car, changed it for a new one and had the car in limp home mode until he could get a shop to clear the computer even though he fixed it.
