Nemesis7884 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 my gut tells me they already prepared some dlc stuff as appeasement policy because they knew they had to release the game before the final iteration / balancing could take place....its the same as brining some flower when going home drunk to your wife
Tagaziel Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I'm amused by the "oh noes, not finally balanced!!11!!!!" complaints. No game was ever perfectly balanced on release. Ever. Especially since there are things that only come out when you have several tens of thousands of players figuring the game out and using it in ways not foreseen. Starcraft was fine tuned for years, as was Pillars of Eternity, not to mention the countless adjustments in MMOs. 1 HMIC for: [ The Wasteland Wiki ] [ Pillars of Eternity Wiki ] [ Tyranny Wiki ]
evilcat Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 hey now I'm generation X who thinks free dlc is a good value. Don't lump me in with millennials. I work for a living. It is opposite. Millenials love tatooed polar bears, free Wi-Fi, and lumberjack beards. So free hairy dlc is as millenial as could be. As for myster: Graphic artist are less busy with bug fixes, so making hats and beards and counting it as marketing pr spending is fair to the working class. 1
rjshae Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 This DLC interface is squirrely. I'm never quite sure if it is loading something. I wonder if there would be a console command to find out, maybe someone from Obs could weigh in here? I've had a couple of instances now where the Steam library page for PoE2 shows the DLC in the list, but it has a state of "Not Installed". If I deselect then reselect the DLC, it downloads something then sets it to installed. Perhaps then there's a bug and this is a work-around. Larkson Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Well, I'm certainly happy over getting free stuff even if it is of things I likely wont use; it is not like I'm being forced to download it. Would appreciate more skintones for godlike though. Hint hint. Nudge nudge. 2

Yes, it seems likely that this is the type of game that does require a lot of fine tuning. The devs are giving the players a lot of choices in character creation, so the state space for all possible configuration combinations will be enormous. It wouldn't surprise me to see many more refinements in the coming months. 2 "It has just been discovered that research causes cancer in rats."

SonicMage117 Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Shame that they focus on releasing free dlc instead fixing their game. Obsidian offers you a gift to blind you from their laziness. Prepare to get attacked, this forum is no place for reasonable criticism or logical explanations! Haha On guard, touché, my sword's bigger than yours! Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Is it a habit of yours to scurry about, getting in the way and causing bother? What are you still bothering me for? I'm a Knight. I'm not interested in your childish games. I need my rest. Begone! Lest I draw my nail...

Prepare to get attacked, this forum is no place for reasonable criticism or logical explanations! Haha On guard, touché, my sword's bigger than yours! Why is it so hard to accept that some things can happen in parallel, rather than consequentially? Obsidian just released a patch containing hundreds of fixes and balancing. At the same time they released the free DLC. It seems logical to assume that the patch was done by programmers and gameplay designers while the DLC was done by artitsts. You know - because the DLC contains only art. Edited June 9, 2018 by wih 10

If you keep giving people something for free, a lot of them eventually stop working and just take the free stuff instead. Why keep working when you can get about as much from the government, meanwhile those who do work are punished with supporting themselves and those other people. There's a balance to the world. You can't have light without darkness (and vice versa), and unfortunately you can't have rich without poor. Anyway, I hope nobody is really taking this too seriously. I was basically just making a joke.

Except that the only one who attacked anyone here was that rhugga guy. So violently that it got deleted. Obsidian shows no laziness. They're fixing, tuning, etc. But they got staff like Dimitri Berman who is an artist, and isn't part of that, and they're making free dlcs with cosmetic updates. How can anyone be angry about that. You're right Sonic, his criticism is really without logical reasoning behind it. Edit: Didn't see Wih posted most my posts points above. ^_^ Edited June 9, 2018 by TheisEjsing 4

I know you didn't mean to start a serious debate, but WIC gave me a future so these talk radio myths kind of stick in my craw: if you've ever been unfortunate enough to have to accept food stamps or housing assistance (there is no such thing as a welfare check), you'll know that almost no one chooses it as their only means of subsistence in the way that you're describing. "Welfare" doesn't deter work, it saves underpaid working people from falling through the cracks into homelessness and crime (which cost the taxpayer far more than some free groceries does). This is the last I'll say on the subject because it's way off-topic. Also, socialism is only the public ownership of the means of production - it's communism that attempts to eliminate inequality through the redistribution of wealth Edited June 9, 2018 by Purudaya 7

Growing up, I've seen whole families getting welfare without having a job and they didn't even look for a job because of it. I don't have a problem with people who actually need assistance getting it like disability or food stamps for poor people. However, too many people get it that don't need it. I know someone who makes about $50K - $60K per year and still gets food stamps. I just think some (if not all) governments hand out money like crazy and don't care. Also, I see tons of so called poor people walking around using $800 smart phones with $200 a month phone bill lol. Anyway, I agree with you. This is getting off-topic so I'll stop talking about this now.

Following your logic, all inherited wealth should be confiscated, so that those people have to work, and therefore become productive members of society. 3 Everyone knows Science Fiction is really cool. You know what PoE really needs? Spaceships! There isn't any game that wouldn't be improved by a space combat minigame. Adding one to PoE would send sales skyrocketing, and ensure the game was remembered for all time!!!!!
