  1. Aww man, you inadvertently fed him! "You said the word even the Knights who say 'Ni' can't stand! You just said it again! Oh no! Now I'VE said it! AHHHHHhhhhhhh!" A troll is sort of like a T-rex. Just remain perfectly irrational and unproductive and he won't see you! We need a sentinent tribal raptors in the game. The player gets introduced to them when the chiefs daughters almost gets killed by a poacher and you happen to save her. She wooes you with her sexy fat ass reptilian tail and her soothing magic reptilian speak puts your party to sleep. You awake in her village surrounded by raptors dancing preparing for a feast. Confronted by the menacing t-rex chieftan of the tribe. ( who serves as the games dragon fight) What happens next up to the player...
  2. Why does this game even need dragons? How about giant wererats instead of dragons that command waves of rodents that can nibble your party to pieces. Not many people played interplays Sacrifice but I thought that level of power was cool and acceptable. You can summon volcanoes a top of players and all kinds of stuff.
  3. Always seen barbarians as warriors with more stamina then the norm. I don't see them as the dnd interpretation roid raging warriors that get tired after they exert themselves. They should be the last ones that fatigue in a fight. And they are easy to it warriors because they are arrogant and accustomed to their own traditional way of fighting.
  4. I prefer modern American. Even latin, german whatever accent other then native english. Imbecile low intelligence language anything is fine just want to see it in the game.. The native tribal accent in risen 2 was quite funny.
  5. I don't mind adventure based economy. The economy system you are asking for has to be well done or is a hassle. They can easily add money sinks in this game. A powerful item that takes a percentage of your gold to deal damage to a enemy proportionate to the amount of money you have. Have gods places of worship, shrines, churches. Where you can get valuable temporary buffs but only if you donate a lot of your hard earned money.
  6. Crafting sucked in neverwinter nights 2 too many variables. It was well done in storm of zehir. It was more balanced in that you couldn't put everything you want on a item. All they need is some equivalent to storm of zehir with a better interface. As long as they do not have a crafting system that breaks the game or makes it more rewarding to craft then finding things in your adventure. Then I'm fine. Skyrim crafting was awful in that it took out all the fun in exploring. Morrowind was awesome exploring because of all the artifacts and powerful items you can find. That are way stronger then anything you could get out of crafting in that game which was enchanting. Made the whole dungeon crawl experience not boring hack and slash.
  7. The mobs can give little exp and if they can focus on the quests giving most of the exp. But they should have it like fallout new vegas. Where if you kill 10,000 of a enemy type. You get a very minor bonus against them or something from it. Small addicting little things like that made people love new vegas. A reward that is there. But is unnecessary unless you want to get it.
  8. I liked kain from the soul reaver, blood omen games. It didn't feel like you can judge him as being evil or good because he has a complicated history and personality. First he was human and good, Then he was a vamp still good, then he became evil vamp, then he became a god in a way of his own world which the beings consider him good...
  9. All this *might* be true except you're still thinking of it like JRPG one route = one goal thing. This is going to be a CRPG of that i am most sure. Take Fallout for example (you've played it I hope). Now add in this kind of "New Game+" however, in this case, i'm going to rename the mode "Fallout After." Your character starts out in The Hub he *doesn't* start out in Vault 13 and he sure as hell doesn't give a damn about a stinking water chip. There's no time limit because you don't care about water chips. Your starting equipment is completely different because you're Mr. X in The Hub not a vault dweller. The Master's super mutant army of death killed the vault dweller which was you except for whatever reason you can start as Mr. X which is still you (both the player and the player character). You're in a completely different starting location. Vic and Dogmeat may or may not rejoin your party because you're a completely different person. People all over the place give you completely different dialogue options because again you're "someone else". You know exactly where the super mutant army is and how many days till they overrun the ghouls and eventually the rest of the wasteland. Your stats have carried over but your gear has not. The Brotherhood of Steel didn't let you in on your first play through because they didn't want to let some wasteland mongrel into their fold however as Mr. X you might just be able to cobble together a group that can take a stand against those arrogant bastards and raid their tech. Same map, same characters, same "play", completely different perspective and hence completely different game. Would that be a worthwhile mode or am I missing something here? Ya but why not just make a a sequel with new maps, character, and similar gameplay lol. chrono cross new game+ least fit with the games story.
  10. I never thought the split storyline idea was a stellar idea in the witcher series. Untimely I didn't give a **** because regardless what path I take it is the same end goal. All you dudes that are obsessed with new game+ should just go play chrono cross. It it the only game I played where new game+ was worthwhile. Not just another end game dungeon and same game over again.
  11. Wow everyone and there mother has the flu. 2012 was the end of the world soon the flu virus will turn those infected into zombies.
  12. "The system they are using has the potential to be great. [...] There are better and more tactical mechanics we can put in video games games then what we seen." Yeah, what could he be talking about... I like being able to dodge, since I like to play rogues. But just looking at it from a mathematical point of view, the glancing system has advantages especially in the early levels. But anyway, the system with BOTH glancing and missing seems pretty much perfect for me. You can miss, not hit the enemy right or deliver a good hit. Seems realistic and interesting to me. And that way my rogue is happy, especially if there's a special ability that further increases the chance of dodging. I'm just saying the infinity engine games are not these amazing tactical games because of dnd mechanics. They are nothing special. Basically you can cheese through every encounter by buffing your to hit to outrageous levels and stomping everything into the ground. if they try out a system where attacks always hit they can perhaps more easily design a system where enemy encounters that stay challenging throughout the whole game unlike DnD.
  13. The system they are using has the potential to be great. Dungeon and dragons game mechanics ultimately ended up very goofy and unbalanced as hell. Especially when things get into high levels. Sure, to hit or miss you can say is "realistic" but in video games it can lead to one dimensional combat. How you succeed in dungeon crawlers like wizardry and dnd usually determined by your fighters to hit and whether your spells hit. There are better and more tactical mechanics we can put in video games games then what we seen.
  14. latin mumble jumble sounds cool in fantasy when wizards are casting spells but I prefer ancient Mesopotamia mumble jumble. Sounds more demonic and arcane.
  15. @Osvir I don't think I've been making my point clearly enough. I crave deep, well thought-out NPCs and I want their personal stories to matter in a game like this. I don't want silent companions, I want complex interactions with all the other characters involved in the story, including the party-joinable NPCs. In the post you quoted, Failion mentions that stories that center around a party are more grand and that playing basketball with friends is more interesting than playing alone. This does not contradict my stance at all. The story can be focused on your party and still you wouldn't need to be(/control) your entire party. Yes, you'd rather play basketball with friends, but it is still you playing with them, you're not occupying your own consciousness as well as theirs; in fact, that would essentially be playing alone... Also, I don't prefer the "chosen one" backstory for the main character that is so popular in CRPGs, I prefer that the main character starts out as a nobody and is defined by you, the player, throughout the game. However, none of these things require the perspective to not be an individual one, this is the only point on which we are disagreeing. I truly think that taking away the individual perspective turns any game into something other than an RPG. If you're not playing a role anymore, and you are instead just controlling several different characters, I have a hard time seeing it as a roleplaying game. Just wanted to make sure I had clearly stated my point. As you said, this is an endless debate as it's a perspective preference issue. What are you not connected to the hive mind??? I agree it is much more quality experience when the party members are created by the developers and are well done. I can get attached to player built companions too if they have a good soundboard.
  16. I always found games that emphasize more on a party of companions overcoming a ordeal far more appealing then games with one main character when it comes to ego stroking. Everyone has their preferences. I believe team oriented stuff is more epic and grand. Even in real life playing basketball with your friends and you knowing their strengths and weaknesses against enemy team. From watching hollywood action flicks, war movies, I find it more appealing in these games where a party of heroes is getting slaughtered 1 by 1 and its really glorious when they finally prevail or even go all down.
  17. They could have your character choose to die, sacrifice yourself, at some point of the story or not. Maybe to save someone you love. But if you do sacrifice yourself. You die and reincarnate. All your story companions treat you as a different person. And you the player have to assume the role and accept your new incarnate and your old one, portion of yourself, as being permanently dead FOREVER.
  18. hard to care and get attached to to a silent protagonist. It would be better instead if they have fleshed out neutral mercenary companies that can die, you can choose their fate.
  19. Isn't that whole argument defeated by the fact that the very game you use to describe what JRPGs are like is... not a JRPG? Additionally while you may not like the aesthetic clearly a great many people do (even amongst IE fans; bastards weren't exactly small and female elves were the definition of super strong 100lb supermodels) so why should Failion be the one to find a different genre and not you? ya but no one used a female elf in a fighter role in those infinity engine games
  20. It would be a dealbreaker to me because I would giggle profusely and then not be able to take the game seriously. I wouldnt be "ingame" as my character. I would be a 39 year old guy sitting infront of a computer screen thinking that Skyrim had more realism. Soulpower? Sure. Go ape****e with that. But that power is a power like any other power. If it becomes ridiculous then it detracts from suspension of disbelief and you end up with WoWesque toons where you stathunt and hack and slash more than RP. If every toon and his mother has the "soulpower" to dualwield claymores, then its not a "cool" or "nice" feature. Then it just becomes more ridiculous. You could say: Well, once you hit level so and so, that would be ok. The dualwielding of claymoress that is. But I would STILL feel as if I was relegated to playing WoW in singleplayer. Or a JRPG where aesthetics and form are more important than suspension of disbelief and a certain degree of insetting logic. If that becomes the case, Ill congratulate all of those who like that stuff, and wait for the next RPG to my liking. No hurt feelings or anything . Go play JRPGs then. They have a completely different mold. Aesthetically pleasing Small girls with pixie arms and fragile looking bodies dualyielding 1.500 pound Flails and throwing chain lightning at will. Im not knocking it. Im just saying: "Its not my style". So in the end, its subjective but it would seem that what you aim for is more JRPG than WRPG. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that or with your wish that Obsidian should move in that direction. There is nothing wrong with strong women. Just because women in say America are weak as hell does not mean women are weak. Women in 3rd world countries that work in the fields have more stamina then 90 percent men in the west. No reason why a women has to be potrayed as weak. thousands of years ago ancient humans were basically superhuman in strength if we compare them today... Anyways this is a fantasy setting and I don't see why women can't be strong. Thats really a bull**** arguement that I should go play jrpgs instead man. DND already detracts from suspension of belief. a bunch of midgit halflings with +5 magical slings can defeat a 10ton genius giant dragon that lived for countless amount of years. Who knows how they are going to approach the whole soul setting. They can really make this a high power setting if they want to... Perhaps certain souls in project eternity learned to retain all their powers and memories from past lives and have nearly godlike powers and now there is a conspiracy amongst some of these powers to end the world or suppress everyone else from reaching this enlightment. Or they figured the gods are not truly gods and plot to replace them with themselves through stealth. Or they already have for thousands of years have ruled and just now select empires in the world have become aware of this. You the player happen to be born with a soul with infinite potential and now what do you do?
  21. You need to brush up on the term "Suspension of disbelief". I have played fantasy games for more than 20 years both PnP and CRPG. I can suspend my disbelief it somewhat makes sense to do so in the setting. If I was a Baatezu as a class I wouldnt have too many problems with dualwielding claymores. Your average elf in full plate with a backpack, mule and standing within 1½ yards of his allies flailing 2 claymores like they were bamboo sticks? Not ****ing happening ever. Vararity has to make "in setting" sense or you end up having pixies comming at you in mithrill plate wielding sentient zweihanders and throwing meteor shower spells at lvl 23. But only to a limited extent. For the sake of the game I can accept that elves and frostband swords exist, but basic physics must still be accounted for even in a fantasy setting. My credulity is easily strained and puerile, anime-like combat is a deal killer for me. Farbautisonn above summed things up nicely, so I won't bother belaboring the point any further. I really don't see how it is a deal breaker. This is a high fantasy setting. Developers can go crazy on the power of souls if they want to. So beings such as Fairys can use their soul power to telekentically dual wield claymores or elves can use their arms with the help of their soul power to wield them just fine. They can make soul power more of a factor then race. Personally I'm sick of everything having to somehow follow the cliche influences and rules of tolkien/dnd when it comes to fantasy rpgs.
  22. You have to suspend belief when putting anything in a video a game especially a fantasy one. it is simply impossible to make a melee combat fighting simulator simply because you can't mimic the biological motions, intelligence, weight, momentum, muscle fibers, field of vision etc etc etc all these factors that are behind real life fighting. OKAY now that is settled... What will be ideal when it comes to dual wielding in a fantasy rpg developed by obsidian entertainment. I definately wouldn't mind seeing things like giants dual wielding broad swords and magical fighters that are lighting fast spectacles or realistic mundane dual wield fighters. The more variety the better.
  23. I want dungeons that actually stimulate the mind. All of skyrim dungeons were hacknslash a 3 year old can get through no problem. The game needs dungeons that use mechanics like falling floors that take you to places you do not want to go. And have the player has to struggle falling multiple levels to complete a electrical/magical circuit to get the elevator working on the main floor. The best way for the developers to achieve these kind of wacky labyrinth/dungeons is to NOT make their world so serious. Where everything by design has to make sense and be logical. Since this game is going to be high fantasy and not low fantasy like the dragon age games the developers can easily take the more crazy dungeon route.
  24. The infinity engine games there were some cool minor cool things like in icewind dale 2 add explosive barrels the player can use to kill the approaching enemy or trapped walls that crush the player and his party. Besides the infinity engine games there aren't many 2D isometric tactical rpg games that I know of. There is the Japanese growlanser series I seen cool things like floors that collapse and the player has to get out of there or fail. Also there are missions where you pull levers to slow the enemies approach on the map. It is 2012, I don't know how flexible the unity engine is but here is hoping to see more variety in the isometic map creating process.
  25. So basically everyone wants a comic relief eastern european sounding retard to laugh at okay. How about trying Italian this time around. What is the ideal loveable retard?
