  1. You got to realize for its time baldurs gate was amazing. Game looked more epic with the original games resolution and less blurry. you enter a room and you see 2-4 big sprites you are like o yeah I got a fight on my hands. Baldurs Gate enchanced resolution ruins the immersion in the game and the splendor. You can't go into the game with 2012 gaming expectations. Some old games you have to be humble to enjoy or really just been there when they came out. Like the original dungeon siege was epic, revolutionary, wow, best game ever awesome when it came out. If you play it today u be like okay this game is whatever. There was no way obsidian was going to come close in doing dungeon siege right. They effed up real bad actually.
  2. I can see why CRPG fans do not like time limits. The infinity games were mostly on the casual side beside the difficult combat. But I really love time limits if they implemented good in video games. It seems like the consensus here is that the majority hate a global time limit. Like you have to go to this city in 30 days or retrieve water chip in X amount of days. So why not have limits limited to tactical combat instead. A wave of enemies are coming at you and you can't let enemy of them past a certain point or you fail.
  3. I'm all for adding time limits if it adds to the game. When I was playing storm of zehir I thought it would be been cool if the developers put time limit scenarios you come across in the game. Like monsters that will destroy a town if you don't do anything. But nope came across nothing of the sort. would be sweet having time limits maybe just very short ones where you have to react fast enough in a battle or game over. Or have a city siege happening in the game you can avoid it and it ends in a stalemate or you can join the battle for one of the sides for the spoils of war.
  4. That is because you lack a imagination. They do not have to be cute. Did you ever watch thunder cats? I don't know what to say. Honestly who cares about furry lovers. Gaming forums like these are already filled with complete dorks. The was already had a armor thread with 10k posts of complete nerdgasm. There are already infinte amount of rpgs out there where you can play as your bbw strong built white man useless cute race only there to give gays players hard ons... see what I did there? This whole furry hate argument is incredibly dumb.
  5. Everyone seriously needs to stop using that arguement that trendy new age w/e... furry porn lovers are sick! so NO anthropomorphic animals in my game please. Do you have a house cat? Just look at its face it may cute, dumb or incredibly haughty higher then thou like my cat. Now imagine that cat as a samurai dual wielding katanas and shooting fireballs out of her palm. What is not to like? Wizardry 8 had furries and it was hilarious giving your cat in the party a jersey snarky accent.
  6. In Rpgs I like coasts, forests and mountains. Real life, I love misty mountains and hiking them. It is a thrill never know if a pack of wolves or a grizzly going to pop out and maul you. I like forests with deep descents and dense bushes. Never know what can be lurking in them. Real life natural environments I find a lot of more interesting then what you see in video games but that is due to limitations that come with the media and the technology. I don't have a particular environment they all hold wonders and beauty.
  7. This is my rant on story and how it can not make a good game. I know a lot of people on the band wagon because of planescape torment. I never understood the obsession with the game. The story telling is whatever. The writer uses victorian era british language which I have no care for. But apparently a lot of CRPG have a fetish for. The ending of the game was rushed and underwhelming. On top of all this the combat system was incredibly bad. Where a level 8 fighter nameless one has a easier time getting around the game then a level 20 mage nameless one. Due to terrible design choices on the spell casting. Every spell had a short cutscene you had to watch.
  8. I'm split even but I slightly prefer combat over story. Wizardry tales of the forsaken land and a lot of dungeon crawlers addicting combat can make for a enjoyable game. If the game has excellent story even better. I lpve when dungeons in games have a story and personality to them. Baldurs Gate 2 good example of a game where the developers really fleshed out the dungeons. The monsters in the dungeons have purpose to being there. Trolls, evil genies, vampires. It makes the whole the dungeon crawling experience much more interesting and enjoyable.
  9. well this isn't dungeon and dragon anymore. Level cap doesn't have to be 20. They do not even have to use a level based system if they want to. Don't mind how fast they do it. Long as the game has a consistent challenging, addictive, and of course fun battle system with diverse encounters I'll play it.
  10. xcom enemy unknown totally gives players the wrong impression in how the game is meant to be played. It gives you the impression that your soldiers are elite dudes taking cover and can go solo pwn everything. When in reality, you have to play the game like ufo afterlight. Have all your squadmates bunched up and every turn have them moving up at a snails pace into enemy territory.
  11. I want guns but not where they steam punk over the top firing blue lights and crap.
  12. 1. Overuse of buffs and persistent buffs to decide battles. Every rpg I played these two are and overpowered and plain boring. 2. Spells that work for just about every opponent. Game is boring when you constantly casting the same 1-3 spells. fireball spell over and over again because it works on everybody but the one fire elemental in the game lol. Much more fun in games where wizard has to use a large variety of magicks. Even basic enemies have strong resistant types to certain elements or magic types.
  13. What I think be cool to see is someone like trist from planescape torment. Instead of being antisocial and deceptive. He is very forward tells you everything about himself and his ideology to the player. Tells you why you in the wrong. Asks you to help him. The game hints you that you can easily kill this guy and not go along with his goals. Or go under his mantle knowing full well that you agree with him and that he is also a predator and likely will betray you in the future.
  14. Cool idea I thought about that ties in with player fortresses. Since everything in the game has a soul. What if the player was given a item that allowed him to transport the souls of simple biengs in the world. Like rocks and trees. You can take them back to your player fortress and place them where you like them. And perhaps you can upgrade this item to transport unique larger variety of these simpler beings like a giant tree in a magical forest. And using this item for unique beings can have consequences. If you take the tree out of the forest stronger mobs spawn in certain parts of the world. But this tree gives the player a buff or his fortress of some sort.
  15. new powerful menacing looking foes turn out to be comical push overs. Your party is barely surviving fighting off ravenous wolves. Then you encounter a town being burned to the ground by beastly looking goat demons lead by what appears to be a powerful looking sorcerer... But it turns out the village idiot completed his quest watching goats given to him by the town elder. He uncovered a magical stone that turned his goats into demons and he assumed leadership over them. Finally having his revenge on the the rest of the villagers by having his goat demons roam throughout town and scare everyone into their homes to only be burnt alive.
  16. Dragon ages and of orcs and men combat system are decent. I personally like of orcs of men more because moving around in battle plays a role. Both of these games it gets annoying constantly queuing abilities for your characters to use.
  17. Make that five... in serious need of merging. Take it for what you will but Alpha protocol russian cougar chick is good example of point I'm trying to make. The infinity engine games have graphic limitations in character development. Hideo Kojima the developer of metal gear solid puts good use of cinematics, using the games graphic engine, in building his characters. Personally I'm hoping Obsidian make use of the technique with the game engine they are using that I believe shares flaws with the old infinity engine.
  18. One feature I like in jrpgs what you rarely see in crpgs. Is sexy, charismatic powerful villains. With love or hate personalities that the player encounters throughout the game. If they are well written and done they alone can encourage the player to play throughout the entire game. Alpha protocol had these characters like that cougar Russian chick. But it was kept very brief and you didn't really get to know her.
  19. The game has characters that use their souls to attack and cast spells. No reason why it should NOT be flashy. The setting is more fantasy then games like Witcher 2. Having the game be mundane given its setting would be silly.
  20. Personally I think ice wind dale had the most fun combat out of all the infinity engine games. One thing I liked about the game was the yaun ti dungeon where you couldn't rest your party unless you decided to do a lot of backtracking. Not only that but the dungeon was hard every room was filled with enemies and traps that can potentially kill your party. The whole dungeon crawl there felt like some snake skin bastard had a knife to your throat and their is unique thrill and enjoyment to be found in that.
  21. Have all the enemies have a unique abilities what are foreign to the player and the party. That way when you encounter a new enemy there is always fear and excitement not knowing what to expect. A troll may thrash the ground with his club to separate the party temporally, A goblin spearman may use his spear to maim and separate one party member from the group. This way when enemies are put together in a small horde they will demand respect from the player how he approaches them in combat. This is all speculation I obviously don't know what combat system they are using.
  22. I remember seeing this used in some rpgs I have played. You can only advance in a certain area in a game if you have the required class. Since project enternity has a adventurer market where you can create party members the developers can really flesh out if they want to. They can make a mountain they can only be scaled if their is a paladin or cleric with the correct faith in the party to shield them from the mountains blasting winds. Or they can go all out with this idea. If you have a party of monks you can encounter a rival party of sinister uptight monks who say your martial art is no good compared to theirs. And get invited to their martial arts dojo and get yourself into a giant martial art battle.
  23. I was late to play baldurs gate.. Despite the bad aging of the game I really enjoyed the exploration in the game. I felt like I was playing a fun classic adventure game instead of a old 1996 dnd rpg that hasn't aged well. The way the world map was designed was cool. Every map felt like a puzzle piece in a big fun puzzle. The exploration felt rewarding in that you do a fair amount of wilderness exploring and then you stumble upon a landmark town or dungeon. That charm was missing in baldurs gate 2.
  24. Game could use a trial like dungeon. Where once you enter you can not leave until it is complete. Maybe the entrance behind you collapses. Can make it excessively difficult and demoralizing to the player. You are constantly descending into a muddy muck stained cave interior fighting annoying critters left and right, How you go deeper in the dungeon is by swimming through pools infested with dark dirty water where the player can have female companions kidnapped from unknown terrors in the deep. Eventually What seemed like a simple adventure. Will have the players going awwwww sheeeet.
  25. Gameplay all the way. CRPGS is the genre in general that people replay and are time wasters for westerners. Basically they are identical to korean time waster mmorpg games minus the Korean. The story does not make people play them again. It is the replay value gameplay and all the statistics jazz. Planescape torment is the western equivalent of final fantasy 7 reason why a lot of folks replay it. Anyways, gameplay is far more important then story in making a game. As long as the story doesn't get lost in translation like two world video game, is a step above that, then its good. Recently Xcom was released for the PC. The story in the game is the exact same as the original game story. It is basically boring crap and the base building in the game is simple and little soldier customization compared to originals. BUT the gameplay alone is fun enough for the game to be considered great and have the player beat it and replay it.
