  1. Dragon Age: Origins uses cooldowns and is an enjoyable CRPG despite some flaws. @Rezin: I recommend that you try Dragon Age: Origins (DA:O) if you haven't. It features a hybrid of MMORPG and classic party-based CRPG mechanics and concepts. I have some gripes with the game, but it's fun and overall worth playing. However, Dragon Age 2 (DA2) is awful. I'm going to check that out, it's on steam for 19 dollars. Thanks Um, if you're curious what Project Eternity is about, DO NOT play Dragon Age. You should play Baldur's Gate (and Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment) from GOG.com. Cool, those are cheaper anyhow. I'll check out one of them then. Having read all of them Drizzt books it'll probably be baldurs gate or Icewind. THanks the graphics are a rather big hurdle for most new players to get through as they haven't aged well...I'd recommend downloading the Baldur's Gate trilogy mod which updates the BG1 graphics to BG2 level and weaves the games in a bit more seamelessly. also... pro-tip: don't pick pocket Drizzt or try to kill him in the game. It likely won't end well for you...and he'll be back for his stuff later <_<;
  2. I never played DA2 but from the videos of the combat I saw I could swear everyone in Kirkwall was a bandit assassin and that by the end of the game you had killed them all...everyone.in.the.city. combat needs to be harder, more meaningful (ie actual motives for enemies to attack, not just me walking around) and less centered on mobs of nameless fodder. the only time i want to fight legions of guys is when i'm facing off against a tribe of lunatics or against an army like Yaga Shura's (at high levels of course) I don't want every criminal in the city to try and kill me for no reason...(can they at least ASK for my coin purse before they try?)
  3. I'm like an elf man, I age 10 times slower than most people. from everything I've read, that you've posted, it just seems to me like you're someone who is TERRIFIED of trying something new...do you seriously believe that even at high levels we'll be able to just spam spells like "time stop" and "summon planetar"? because I have to tell you, those fears seem rather unfounded. This is a game catering to people who like the old classics, but most of us also understand that certain "updates" have to be made...it's not 1998 and sleeping inside dungeons was ALWAYS a stupid idea. (am I supposed to believe the horde of monsters in the next room would allow that?) am i against a sleep mechanic? no, i'm actually for it...when it makes sense. Besides, Vancian magic is just that, a system imagined by an author (Señor Vance) a long time ago... is everyone supposed to be beholden to that for all time? can we not see if something else can be better before we cast it down into the abyss of "unplayability"?
  4. every area you could travel too in BG1 had something(s) to do in them, minor quests, bounty hunters, basilisk nests, mad wizards/priests, Planewalkers looking for their pet demons etc....it made the world feel more fleshed out and gave you a sense of wonder.
  5. I want BG1 and BG2 to have a hybrid clone baby with all the super powers of both species... edit: you can add a 3rd sperm donor into that milkshake btw...SoZ overland map! mix'em all together!
  6. man, i am soooo inaptly named compared to ~you people~... I've never even played PnP...unless the P's stand for something else, hur hur hur! so let me ask you this Metipoo, is the only thing that's really bothering you the potential fact that mages might not require sleep after combat or is there something else (Josh Sawyers smug face for example ) bothering you about P:E?
  7. not at all...i just don't think what you're proposing is entirely feasible in a game of this scale. We have poor bastards still begging for Paladins and Barbarians seem like an almost impossible stretch goal right now. what you're suggesting may be implemented whenever a main plot point requires it but just having it in ordinary gameplay is kind of wishful thinking at this point. not to say i wouldn't like it.
  8. meh, looks like we got ourselves a Call o' Doody tard here boys...
  9. woah, hoah, slow down there, It's not my link...it is a link to a thread about Obsidian's facebook thing for another level. I, myself, this person here, personally, does not have any sort of affiliation with said "book of faces" except in the form of a fraudulent account under a rather pompous sounding pseudonym.
  10. I won't be funding unless I have to make a saving throw each time I take a step without looking. /puristelitistfascistrpgnerd edit: i'll remind ye brethren that old school crpg and "destructible environments" aren't exactly synergistic...
  11. hah, you guys acting all snobbish like you're too good to make a fake facebook account...don't pretend you have anything better to do with your saturday night!
  12. Paladins as a 3 million dollar stretch goal ~nyaaaagh! lets see how much you want it baby! (comes with a bardic squire and an unusable mount for aesthetic and lore purposes, possibly fast travel)
  13. everyone, go ~like~ the obsidian facebook kickstarter whatchamacalit thingie...they get 15k we get a new dungeon level. facebook may violate my tenets as a rational human organism, but hey, its another level man! http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/61167-obsidian-seeks-likes-on-its-official-facebook-page/ the uh link is in the link...
  14. zoom in and you can even count the pixels!
  15. heh, will there be pet cemeteries? 'cuz I don't see Mr. Mittens surviving a blast of dragon's breath...
  16. ...I'm thinking 2.5 mil buys us something around the level of this beauty up here...
  17. pretty much the only people that didn't lead grimdark (lol internet slang, gotta love it) lives in the middle ages were rich folks...and even then... people that think the sh1t they see on the news is bad and that "the world is going to hell" don't have a clue as to what they are talking about. We live in a utopia by comparison.
  18. I was a big proponent of slavery...that didn't come out right... when i first heard of this project I immediately thought how great it would be to own slaves! -for evil guys ofc- <_<; and the rest of the people could hire peasants and serfs to haul all your loot on donkeys!
  19. honestly, I'd throw out the whole class system altogether and just have "people who can use soul power/people who can't" and just let the player choose his combination of stats, feats and skills like in Fallout 1/2. like that we can have psionics, magic, martial arts, "Paladiny" and gun stuff without the butthurt. that way, nobody feels their favorite class is being undermined by another...which is also what's happened in the cipher thread: "cipher a pointless class, mages should do it all!"
  20. yeah, I think just a little wisp or fairy-like creature would suffice as a pet... even Gutts has Puck as a companion in Berserk.
  21. That which is bold. That's what is most important. Obsidian doesn't need to make a mod editor, they only need to leave some doors open so modders can access the files :D I am so looking forward to mod for P:E :D yes, yes yes...yes yes yes yes! Why don't developers today get this? you don't need to release mod tools, just don't lock the game resources in a f*cking uncrackable safe!
  22. you know, everybody always does the medieval fantasy setting...but just once i'd like to see a fantasy setting based on pre-medieval times such as the Roman Imperial/republic era. I don't think that's ever been done.
