well necromancy is in the game so no doubt people are tinkering with resurrection...after all, magic is an evolving practice that grows with study. I wouldn't be surprised if in the game somewhere you come across a mad necromancer who seems to be evil at first--but if you find a way to cure him of his madness (as opposed to killing him) he may offer you his services in the form of secret necromancy he discovered (ie come to him if your companions ever get killed)

i know, i'm super 'cited...can't wait to get my hands on this beast! an actual challenging and indepth rpg being made in 2012? surely the Mayan's must be onto something because if this isn't a sign of the end times i don't know what is... also,i think that any money beyond 3.5 mil should either go towards polishing the game or to shipping people those damned costly physical goods.

i think it fits well with the lore of the world...reincarnation is a confirmed process and resurrection flies in the face of that and breaks the system. now perhaps a resurrection spell that has to be cast within a few hours of death (ie before rigor mortis) MAY be acceptable but to be honest, I don't need spells like that either.

sorry man, but this whole post reeks of decline from beginning to end... i like my games with both quality AND quantity....especially a freaking unicorn project like this which will probably be the last gem of its kind until the invention of the holo-deck. you want a short game so you can get back to your important life? go play one of those pop-a-mole action rpg's that are so popular now, or better yet, just quit gaming altogether.

i'm sure they mean you don't get xp for killing fodder...I seriously doubt that if you encounter a Dragon or a demon or even an adventuring party that is powerful that you wouldn't gain experience from vanquishing them. Killing Kobolds once you're at a certain level of power should indeed grant little to no experience though, which makes a lot of sense.

well there is something to be said for games that don't take you from lowly serf to burgeoning demi-god in the span of 2 hours gameplay... after all, in BG1 you're max level was roughly 7-8 but you still felt pretty powerful compared to most people in the world...then came BG2, you still had that power but you were swimming in a much bigger pond this time around, one with big time sharks (Irenicus, Demigorgon etc.) personally, I can appreciate a more conservative approach to power gain...after all, even in fantasy settings becoming a demi-god shouldn't be something you can accomplish 2 days off the pig farm.

Didn't the old AD&D-based IE games used different XP scales for different classes? That led to some scatter in when characters would level up. For newer systems it tends to happen all at once. At 60 hours of game play and 12 levels, that's 1 party level per 5 hours. Personally, I can live with that. There will be plenty of other things to keep us occupied. do you have a link to this info?'cuz that was one of the things i was wondering about eternity...whether or not it would be like BG1 (a relatively low level adventure) that could allow for your character to progress further down the line in another game (growing into higher levels, even epic)

Length of the Game
NerdBoner replied to firstarioch's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
its been hinted to be structured in a similar way as Fallout was i.e. critical path was -obtain waterchip, -defeat the Master- but Fallout had so much more to do than just that (extra content) and the critical path was hidden among all of it. so my hope is that the critical path of PE is the size of one of the IE games, but with all the extra content (especially now with the 2nd city) that it reaches 100+ hours. -
Make a wish for 3.6

that flows in the wind of course... -
4mil stretch goal: we will add more than one type of monster for you to slay! "Designing and coding monsters is tough and costly work...but with your help we can add up to THREE NEW MONSTER TYPES for you and your party to genocide! ~but only with your help~!" Sounds legit. of course then people will come on the forums and complain that the 3 new monsters will "dilute" the quality of the preexisting monster already in the game...

yeah, i remember when he left (or was forced to leave BioWare) because he didn't like the direction the Dragon Age franchise was taking (ie button mashing nonsense) In my mind i'd like to think he made some crazy speech ripping into the EA execs and the spineless wimps who gave into their demands so easily. Then he flips over his desk, drops his mic, gives everyone the peace sign and says "I'm out, bltch!" edit: yeah, I wouldn't be opposed to him helping out in some capacity...the game seems to be shaping out to be huge and i'm sure another pair of experienced hands would help, even if only as a consultant.

3 MILLION BREACHED
NerdBoner replied to C2B's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Agree with the first two, not so much the third. meh, it worked great in Fallout so I don't see why it wouldn't work in P:E... /NotWorried edit: guys, i'm not saying give up any skills or powers...all i'm saying is that i don't need predefined classes at character creation. It's really just a limiting aspect of gameplay at the end of the day. -

Ummm....that's precisely what the Cipher class is, a psionic. i don't understand what you're trying to tell me...all i was saying is that as long as psionics are implemented the hardcoded class system can be tossed out; don't care much for it. to me classes are just names anyway; names that typically restrict you from doing two different things that otherwise wouldn't be restricted were it not for the arbitrary class name. (eg Sneaking, sword fighting and psionics) <~~~why would i need 3 different classes to do those 3 things? so yeah, keep the house, sell the castle and keep the names...gimme a city that's gonna double my play time. -

I would give up the player house, the stronghold and all the damn classes if we could get a second Athkatla sized city in the game... hell, i'd be fine with the s.p.e.c.i.a.l system so long as Psionics were implemented.
