i don't get you guys that want the adventuring hall so badly...half the fun of playing these games is your traveling companions, their interactions with each other and reactions to events in the world. I'm not against the Hall per se, but I just don't understand the fervor behind creating this pack of no name adventurers when there will likely be well written characters to choose from each class (except hopefully no cipher class cuz i want to be one heheheh). if its about stats and feats i'm sure a week after launch someone will have made a simple character editor that will allow you to alter those stats however you wish. -
Will elves have "souls"?
NerdBoner replied to rjshae's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
typically elf souls are even considered special and go to their own exclusive dimension upon death... -
Ciphers, while they definitely should have their combat options through precognition and telekinesis could primarily be a more social "investigative" class... for example, your team is cornered by a group of bandits...sure you could crush the Bandit leaders spine with your mind, but wouldn't it be just as satisfying to reveal one of his dirty secrets to his men and watch them turn on each other like a pack of hungry dogs? the possibilities of the cipher are endless...truly excited about this class.

Paladins and Bards
NerdBoner replied to AlphaShard's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
always hated paladins and kill them on principle...with Bards it strictly depends on usefulness and personality. would i want the team to waste resources implementing yet another warrior class when there are already 4? No way. but i can see bards fiting nicely into the setting seeing as music, truly inspired music, can be said to come from the soul. -
being able to endure pain, recover quicker from wounds and make attacks more devastating through sheer will power (aka soul power) is in no way shape or form even remotely close to Dragon Ball Z...that's a terrible comparison and you should feel bad for making it and have you ever heard of Shadow Dancers? or a multitude of other high level rogue abilities? if those don't count as quasi-magical i can't conceive of your rationale for them.

hah, i remember hacking on the "unleash" ability to my fighters or rogues in BG2 once or twice a day because it looked an awful lot like a tk blast that a psion would use... ahh, good old ShadowKeeper...how I abused the hell out of thee...

I actually think it makes a lot of sense that in a world were souls are such a huge deal and everyone knows the power they hold that even "normal" fighters would learn how to channel their soul power into say their sword edge to give them that extra bit of power against an overwhelming foe. i hated hw in DnD an epic level fighter (20+) never developed special fighting moves that could put him even remotely on par with a mage of equal level...this to me is a refreshing take on it. And also, rogues have always been able to use wands, scrolls, potions and devices as part of their class skills...thats nothing new. and lastly "Mystic"? No, that implies something else entirely...if anything call them Psychics or preferably "Psyfers". its called subliminal messaging...Obsidian is planting the seeds of guilt in our minds just in case we haven't pledge yet...or enough.

I think we can drop the pretense already... we know the dev team will use the paypal funds exclusively for drugs and hookers. -

Godlike races, yay!
NerdBoner replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
super psyched for Godmodelike races...now all I need is the cipher class to go with it and as I've said numerous times before, my dream of being the ultimate unique and beautiful snowflake character will become a reality! -
hey man, if dragging around a backpack full of books tomes like some poor over worked asian kid going to school sounds like your idea of fun then be my guest...as you're flipping through one of those tomes trying to find the page to that fireball spell I'm sure there will be a cipher around TK crushing all the foes that are encroaching on your position. Its all good. /NoWorries

Rogues are secretly the most OP class in most games...its just that people don't know how to play them right.I must admit though, I may cheat on my favorite class this time if Ciphers get implemented. also, I was joking about Cadegund's armor...I actually found it silly that people made such a huge fuss over NOTHING. I swear the outrage over a chest bulge often leads me to believe people have a problem with women looking like women.

The Monk Class
NerdBoner replied to Aedelric's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Conversely, I live in an Asian country, and so I really DON'T want to see kung fu monks (but would love to see actual Asian culture depicted in a non-stereotyped exoticized-for-Westerners way). ;P Jade empire is really the only western RPG i can think of based in an eastern fantasy setting...its a pretty underrated game IMO. -
yep, sucks to be a mage fan when ciphers are around stealing all your chicks and hogging all your glory... /smugface

Godslayers?
NerdBoner replied to Badmojo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
it goes hand in hand with the whole perceived sexism thing... it's pretty barf inducing to be honest. -
if that's all you want, then you don't need to worry...a Dragon Age 2 this will not be. as for how I feel? 1. I'm excited that its a game that's a true successor to the Infinity Engine greats of days gone by and 2. You are waaay too negative especially considering this project is barely more than an idea at this point. Chill out, life's really not that serious that you need to moan about stuff you don't even know about yet.

there will obviously be some changes in Eternity but these are some of the Psychic powers in DnD: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Psion_Discipline_Powers#PSION_DISCIPLINE_POWERS

wizards and Psionists are 2 different beasts altogether

I'm not gonna lie i've played plenty of half-elves in my day because i like being unique, beautiful and long lived (just like IRL harharhar)...but i'm seriously curious about this take on elven culture. They are typically represented as the declining civilization of greatness and magic that fell to human expansion...but now it seems they are the savages. I'd like to see how that plays out. also, an elf would make a terrible shield, too brittle and skinny...works much better as a spear, what with the ears. Dwarves are better as shields as they're all fat, hairy and can absorb a lot of damage.
