  1. In POE1, all the class had at least +1 engagement built-in. That was removed in POE2. You need to use a shield, spear/pike modal, class passive/stance, gear with bonuses or subclasses that grants it.
  2. Voted for Priests. I saw someone saying they were useless because you didn't need support outside healing. I suspect some people haven't read the Chanter ability list much...They have everything, debuff, buff, healing, damage, summons, CC. Ranger are not a bad class. They are very passive which seems to be a problem for many players, but they can deal a crap tone of single target damage. Well at least Maia does. Although, Ghost heart is crap. The summon can be interrupted and when that happens they get stun locked trying to summon the pet. They also get no bonus outside summoning their pet which is basically a negative. lol.
  3. Hearth Orlan so far (well outside the 20ish character I did that never went farther than Port Maje where I probably tried all the races). He looks total awesome with his pirate hat. I'm thinking of making a Godlike character because they seems to have a lot more relevance in this game on a replay. So far the games gives my plenty of reasons too replay it so that shouldn't be an issue.
  4. Except romance can be quite endearing when done right. You don't need multiple entries, or sequels, to create meaningful romance. Some of my favorite romances come from dragon age origins. It's just here, the devs didn't have the talent to make good romance. In which case, they should have instead not opted for romance. So maybe it's a bit short and not that well written for the characters. I still find it entertaining to have Hylea as a wingman Honestly, Hylea is adorable. You should be able to romance her instead. I'm shipping her with Magran personally. I kinda wish the 3rd game will have the depowered gods as companions. It would be hilarious. The Pallid Knight rolling her eyes at everyone, turning into the Usher once in a while. Hylea acting all motherly and vindicative if you piss her off. Magran being a total hotheaded tsundere. Skaen trying to backstab you all the time. Woedica, the old granny who thinks she is in charge of the party. Galawain always challenging everyone, especially the Watcher. Wael being super cryptic and hiding your stuff all over the place. Abydon just talking about technology and building stuff. Ondra try to fix things while making sure you don't remember any of it. and Rymrgand would be the bad guy who wants to destroy everything.
  5. In my case, after Eder rebuffed Xoti, she immediately turned her sights on me without any prompting at all. Then there's Tekehu, who tries to proposition you within seconds of meeting him. Tekehu is "I'm pretty, you're pretty, lets bang" with everyone. If you bring him to the Wild Mare, you learn he tried to kiss the owner without his consent once while drunk... As for Xoti, she is lonely and horny...the first thing she does is trying to catch Edér. She switch to your character if you tell Edér to turn her down and/or goes for Maia (or Maia goes for her, I'm not sure who start it). Deadfire is a big soap opera, really.
  6. Nah, don't squander all the good stuff when morale is already high. Whenever we brought down another pirate, it's hardtack and water! You know, in real life, doing that would cause a mutiny.
  7. Xoti showed zero interest in my character in 15 hours so far and I'm not romancing anyone. How did you manage that? She was thirsting over my character the moment they met. Maybe she doesn't like orlan that much? I never had her in the negative, but I did avoid picking "too nice" dialogue options early on if that makes sense.
  8. There are +1 spell cast bonuses in the game. I remember seeing one attached to renting a room. I think it was a room. The Chanter also has a level 9 invocation that replenish 1 class resources on a AOE cone (+ themselves). Spell cast are priest, wizard and druid class resources.
  9. I personally find Deadfire Wizards more potent than POE1 ones (used Aloth in both). Kalakoth's Minor Blights and Pull of Eora is such a nice combo anyway.
  10. Xoti showed zero interest in my character in 15 hours so far and I'm not romancing anyone.
  11. We go there to get help from the gods to stop Thaos who is working to empower her so she can rules over said gods. I don't think anyone wanted the drama. Also, there is some bad blood between Magran and Woedica over the Godhammer event (going by their interaction in Deadfire).
  12. I didn't get to that point in the story yet, but... that strikes me as a retcon more than anything else. Especially since you have more than one party to corroborate the original version during PoE 1. Oh well... I don't remember any of the other gods saying that they cast her down which would be the most legit source of information. Although, the way she act in Deadfire, I can see them telling her to shut up all the time, lol. Quote from PoE wiki, with citation pointing at Iovara's in-game dialogue (I admittedly don't have the exact screenshot of that though): "Woedica, like the other gods, was created by Engwith out of the sacrifice of thousands of their souls at Sun in Shadow. Intended to be the strongest of the gods and at the top of their hierarchy, Woedica was simultaneously a patron of justice, oaths, and promises, and conversely, an entity willing to disregard the rules if it was necessary to accomplish her goals. She could do what she wanted with Eora at the apex of her power, which is why the other gods conspired to vanquish her, bringing the Queen on even footing with the rest of them." Iovara is not one of the gods and she was born after they were created...
  13. Maia didn't hit on me right away, but I put her on storage when I got her and took her out later. I probably run with her in my party for ~2 hours before that dialogue triggered after leaving the cartographer building in Queen's Berth. It was the first auto-dialogue I got from her, but talked to her before that. Maybe putting companion in storage slow them down?

  15. Aloth isn't as grumpy as POE1, for me, in Deadfire. In fact, he's pretty bro so far, a very serious bro, but still a bro. Pallegina seems to have added a few chips on her shoulders since the last time we meet though.
  16. Something being well written and presented doesn't automatically make it good role-playing content. Tell me, what are the role-playing options in the Bloody Baron quest chain? Or in Heart of Stone?
  17. Right? She's annoying and arrogant about her religious beliefs, but the other characters, including the Watcher pick up on it and can tell her to cool down and shut up if she goes too far. She's not somehow beloved by all despite her personality like, say, Sera from DA:I. I'm not sure what you mean by "not somehow beloved by all". You mean in-game? Because out of game, Sera is DA:I most hated companion.
  18. Xoti approvals mostly make her look like some sadistic serial killer. I wouldn't worry about it. She does talk a lot about reaping and harvesting souls...
  19. I know someone who complains all the time about bugs in every game he plays, including doing bugs list and sending them to the developers, and he's actually praising Deadfire because he haven't encountered many bugs so far (20+ hours in). He use a preset legacy. So stop complaining about having to wait months, make your own preset that match your save and enjoy a very stable game.
  20. It's 2-3 minutes long and most of that if the walk of shame. ESC skip the two first videos and you don't have to wait for dialogue VO to end to click next/pick dialogue choice. I'm pretty good at speeding through it now. I spend way more time in the character creation page called "class".
  21. The entire In-Between segment mention memory lost, it's like the first thing you are told. You the player might care about losing Caed Nua, your character isn't really in a condition to do so, yet the game gives you one dialogue choice that reflect a personal stake still. Also, I'm not sure how you missed the intro cutscene right after "new game" and the intro narration that shows Caed Nua destruction. Am I the only one who had translucide creepy stuff popping here and there while playing POE1? Or dialogue choices after talking to ghosts that went like "I think I'm going crazy"? I doubt it. The translucide creepy stuff and the talking to ghosts is was cause Watchers to become insane, but you, the player, decided how much your Watcher was mentally affected by what he/she was seeing in POE1, not the game.
  22. I do that a lot. Like 20+ characters created and abandoned in every RPGs I play until I settle down. For POE2, i'm kinda alternating between Chanter and Monk right now and wondering if I should go Paladin instead and thinking that Rogue might suit what I want to play more...
  23. How is it long and tedious? You can skip the narrator splash page and intro video with ESC. You can fast track the dialogues by clicking next or a dialogue option right away instead of listening to it. It take like 2 minutes to get to the character creator and most of that is the "POE1 plot explanation walk of shame". By the way, depending on certain legacy choices, the interaction with Berath is slightly different, especially at the description level and no I didn't run through that part 10 times last night, I stopped at 5 re-roll (a few more will happen later today though).
  24. Well this one might be due to drugs, who knows: But it's from Metacritic, not from Steam. I actually know two people who are complaining that the story and characters are boring so far, but both don't seems to care one bit about POE1 characters/stories or even the settings. They are also complaining that the classes and abilities haven't changed (much) from the first game. I'm still wondering why they bothered buying the sequel... They haven't complained much about bugs, but considering they probably didn't use the save import feature...
