It's not a beat the game in 27 minutes, it's a finish the game in 27 minutes, they added a very early dead-end* option (Josh talked about them before saying RPG should have more of them). Yeah! And going with JerekKruger's comment I consider the whole thing a spoiler after watching it. *Picking that option end the game early, but not with a "game over" screen.

They probably didn't "went with it", some programmer got the job to refactor POE1 engine to the Deadfire one and probably screwed something up while moving stuff around. POE1 also had damage calculation problems with multiplicative in beta (and a while after release). That tells me they aren't strong on unit testing their algorithms though (or their unit tests are crap which is much more likely).

It can't be overstated. When Chris left Obsidian back in 2015, everybody assumed it was a planned and orderly "resigned to pursue other interests" scenario. Like maybe there was some bad blood involved, but it basically happened entirely out of his volition. Now all of a sudden he's talking about how his health insurance was abruptly cancelled and he was left in the lurch. That would not have happened if he had planned to leave Obsidian! So if Chris Avellone was fired, the question that needs to be asked is - why? Job benefits always end when you leave a job, that include health insurance. There isn't a single company on the planet who will keep paying benefits to/for an ex-employee. People using that to label Obsidian as a bad company clearly have very poor real job/working experience. The whole interview reads as MCA having a narcissistic victim personality disorder to me too. Which probably means he left own his own accord, but now believes he was forced to leave...

No it meant computer. The term was born from the idea of adapting PnP RPG to the computer, hence computer role playing game. Something can't be a classic before it is released and that's how those games were marketed, as cRPGs. Now I guess you could say it means classic, because the RPG genre evolved in every direction to the point people don't even understand what role playing means anymore, but that's another story. So when did “c” become “classic”? Probably when nuGamers* saw old-timers call the Infinity Engine games/NWN cRPGs in a forum somewhere when lamenting about no studio making similar games anymore. They deduced they were talking about classic RPGs when they were writing cRPG because nobody bothered to write computer role-playing games since the Age of Acronyms started. That would be from 2007 onward (the 3 years gap between NWN 2 and DA:O basically). Ganrich is also right about cRPG being used to distinguish those games from jRPGs back in the 90s. wRPG (western) was also used but for the more action oriented titles like The Elder Scrolls series. *for lack of a term for gamers who didn't play cRPGs in the 90s.

All of them who picked the DLC and CE+, which is probably most of those backers. There was no mention of it being bundled (it wasn't for POE1) and I think some people asked the question during the campaign. So quite a few people are now somewhere in-between "yeah, free stuff added" vs "I wasted $20". Me included.

It's mainly because there was nothing wrong with it, but some people out there will probably complain about it lol It's the internet, sometimes it doesn't even have to be about what's preferable, some people just like to talk Anyways, Skyrim's voice acting/voice overs and wtiting in general is pretty good actually, and so was Oblivion. Morrowind on the other hand.... Morrowind voice acting is better than Oblivion, but very few characters speak more than greetings and combat grunts (the 4 NPCs you talk while starting the game, Vivec, Dagoth Ur and the Daedra Princes are the only one with more than greetings and grunts). Oblivion has major editing issues (character switching voice depending what you ask them and the sound level output is different in some cases) and most NPCs lack direction. I get the impression their initial plan was just to voice the main quest NPCs, Daedra and main guilds NPCs. Skyrim is super fine though.

I'm the most looking forward restarting the game at least 20 times until I'm satisfied of my character. The truth is that I'm not exactly looking forward to that, but I know it will happen so I'm mentally preparing myself.

Wait... What are those portraits? Just new player portraits or like ship crew? I must've missed something. It's the Critical role VA thing. I think they are making portraits out of the characters they (Critital role) had for their Vox Machina campaign. If I understood it correctly. I didn't know what they were until a week ago. Yeah, i have no idea what any of that means. Critical Role is a D&D session webseries run by veteran voice actors that got popular in the last few years. Matt Mercer, the DM, is playing both Edér and Aloth and three others of the group voiced characters in POE1 as well. For Deadfire, they brought the entire gang (most of them voice companions/sidekicks) and decided to add their season 1 campaign (called Vox Machina) characters portrait and voice sets so players can use them.

I'm sorry for going on a tangent, but are newly-hired videogame developers really this well-off? Holy cow, have I picked a wrong field of work. Yeah, that kind of raised an eyebrow for me, too. Certainly not the case for the industry in Poland. source: myself General rule of human resources, employees cost x2 their salary to the company (office spaces renting, hardwares, software licences, etc).

I suspect there won't be anything until the game release and they will just grand a code to get the DLCs...or we wait for mods.

The marketing is going to increase as we move toward release, so more opportunity to hide codes. Also, they still have to post tweets presenting the companions/sidekicks (which replaced the bestiary tweets).

By that logic Witcher 3 is an indie game. But it's okay. I know you feed off the lulz you get by trolling like this. Technically it is. All we're pointing out here is that indie is a functionally meaningless term. Technically it is not. The studio that made The Witcher 3 (CD Projekt Red) is owned by the publisher (CD Projekt). Like EA and BioWare/DICE/Motive/etc or ZeniMax/Bethesda Softwork and Bethesda Gaming Studio. Those gaming studio have no independence from their publishers.

They aren't just successors in term of mechanics/concepts, unlike the FF games, the Elder Scrolls games share the same world and follow each other chronologically. Arena to Oblivion is just 44 years apart. Skyrim is 201 years after Oblivion. Only in the absolute loosest sense. For all it has to do with Morrowind Oblivion might as well be a Final Fantasy game, cracks about St. Jiub in one line of dialogue aside. Loosest sense? There is a few recurring NPCs across game (Uriel Septim, Hesleth, etc). You visit dungeons/areas in Skyrim, Morrowind and Oblivion that you could visit in Arena. You start Oblivion in the same prison/dungeon you started in Arena, goblins included. The games refer to the events of the previous games and some hint to future games too. The lore stays the same across all the games as well and each new game is just further on the same timeline. Final Fantasy games have no link between each others outside names of spells, creatures and some terms coming back but not for the same thing (example: Esper).

They also have an overarching story, at least they did when Kirkbride was still involved but Skyrim is still following his plan despite him not working on it so it seems to still be "on". There is also a Mehrunes Dagon/Uriel Septim VII story arc with Arena, Daggerfall, Battlespire and Oblivion. *The Final Fantasy games are all set in different universe and only share concepts, games in the same universe have double numbering, like FF XII-2.

Exactly. They made first Pillars without having in mind it'll ahve a sequel. And, tbh, Deadfire might be a continuation of the main character but not of the first game's story. It has nothing to do with Thaos and the LEaden Key or anything. It's about Eothas coming back and you chasing after him. Thaos might be gone, but a recent stream tells me we aren't done with The Queen That Was nor her followers. As for Eothas, I suspect the current plot hook we know might be slighty misleading going by Josh recent quote to tease Critical Role.

You should probably test the Medium shield modal, I believe it is a deflection check against the attack and not a fixed % chance of blocking. Although, I haven't tried it since beta 2 and I have now uninstalled the beta so I can't check it myself.
