  1. I'd rather see them as something released after the game launch... Probably wouldn't use them myself, but I know they'd be useful to talented members of the community.
  2. Yes. And use a sliding XP scale... so low level monsters when you are only level 1 or 2 are reasonable XP. Those same monsters when you are maybe 5 or higher? Nothing. No levelling off squirrels.
  3. I personally dislike XP for quests only systems. When you're slaughtering through loads of mobs, that are there simply because they're random encounters or because they were put there to slow you down, it's annoying to know you're essentially getting NOTHING from that combat. Having said that, I would like to point something out. Obsidian have stated they intend to have non-combat skills that will be useful. Ok, you can probably use those to get around combat and complete your quest, but surely you should get some kind of experience for using them in the first place? Maybe a "hybrid" style system would be a good idea... like your skills level as you use them (so combat would actually have a point, non-combat skills would level as you pick locks/sneak/craft/etc), while your actual character "level" (which might affect things like extra spells/heroic feats/hit points/ability scores/etc) goes off finishing quests. OK, probably rambling now... but basically I think a flat levelling system off quests is a poor way to go. Just IMO.
  4. Thanks for that! This is going on my phone for sure
  5. I'd like a proper day/night cycle. I really dislike the fact that, in newer RPG's, the only benefit to sleeping is the fact you get bonus XP for being well rested. I'm sorry, but if I'd ran around for 16 hours with half the crap my character finds (which can be a couple of hundred pounds of gear), I'd be shattered and wanting my bed!
  6. I went for #2. However, I'd like party members to go to a set "place." If you have a house, then you should be able to tell them to meet you there. If not, then they should go somewhere specific so you can find them easier. For example, they might just say "Ok, well I'll be in the tavern if you need me", so they automatically head to the tavern of the city you are in. Maybe have a little tooltip on the map to help the player remember this too. Don't just leave them where you kicked them out!
  7. Just a regular old guy/gal for me, please. Getting a bit fed up of finding out my character is destined for greatness cos of x, y or z. Bhaalspawn in BG, Dragon Born, whatever else. At least in Fallout 3 and even New Vegas, your character isn't special. In FO3 you have to run for your life because your Dad caused a load of crap, and in F:NV, it really was just "Wrong place, wrong time."
  8. Done! Just call me Khaine, Demon Lord of the Obsidian Order.
  9. 31. Favourite RPG: Probably Fallout 2 or BG2... hard choice tbh. My first RPG that I ever remember was Bard's Tale 1 on the C64.
  10. Yes please... IF Obsidian have time and IF it won't take time/funds away from other aspects of the game. Otherwise I'd rather it be a patch later on.
  11. If it were possible without compromising the base game at all, I would love Multiplayer. Myself and my other half like to play games together where possible, and since I'm getting 2 copies of PE (digital and CE boxed), being able to give her one so we can play together would be awesome.
  12. If crafting ends up being implemented (big if!)... then for the love of god, DON'T to a Skyrim and flag the crafted item as stolen if it was made with stolen components! Also don't flag legitimately gained items as stolen if you happen to have a robbed one in your backpack. Two minor things from other games that annoy me...
  13. Ooooh... yes please! Something as big... or bigger... than Watcher's Keep from the BG2 expansion. However, this is something I'd personally like to see added as a stretch goal. The mega-dungeons in BG and BG2 were both expansion packs, so having it as a stretch goal would make a certain amount of sense IMO.
  14. Cross between Fallout and Baldur's Gate please. I swear I must be the only RPG player that didn't really like Planescape: Torment. I need to try replaying it now I'm older.
  15. Children yes... I think it makes the world more realistic. However, and I feel this is important, they should only be killable if having them in the game could potentially cause a detriment to your character. Example: Skyrim. If you kill someone, or steal something, you have a bounty. The bounty goes if you kill everyone who saw you commit the crime. Children count for this... if they saw you commit the crime, then the bounty stays because you can't kill them. If children are going to have an effect on game mechanics like that, then you should be able to dispose of them in the proper, evil b****** way.
  16. I actually just finished playing the original Baldur's Gate, and if you did enough damage, NPC's exploded into chunks all over the place. Personally, I'd support this... but then I like slightly dark fantasy. Medieval style combat, with magic thrown in, is not going to be pretty little gashes and slight burn marks. Limbs will fly. Flesh will roast. I'd love this as an option in the game (Note: I did say option. Make it a checkbox for people to turn off). Just... not to the DA:O extreme of hitting a mob once, killing it and then leaving the battle completely covered in blood... O.o
  17. Sure. Fable 3 even kept count of how many STD's you caught!
  18. From what I understand regarding Transgendered people in society, other persons (such as myself) will simply react to them based on how they present themselves. So a woman that can pass herself off as a man because she wants to live like that, would most likely be reffered to as "He". A man dressing as a woman convicingly would be reffered to as "She". Androgynous? People would just call out what they see... so some might say Man/He, and others Woman/She. Realistically, I don't see why the game needs to cater to your lifestyle choice explicitly. In previous Bioware games, you could write your own biography for your character. Why not pick the race and sex you feel you identify best with/are most comfortable with and simply write a bio that fits the character you want to play and can relate to? I'm sure Obsidian can put in a Bio field for people to edit as they see fit. Then the game world AI population would simply react to what they "See", just like in real society. On another, slightly more negative, note. People still occasionally freak out at Sex or Homosexuallity in games. Transgenderism won't be appearing for a while.
  19. Expansion packs! Similar to tbe BG and NWN series, if possible.
  20. I often wish more Windows gamed would run on Linux so I could completely ditch it. I'm really not liking the look of Windows 8... but since most games still run on Vista, I'm sure my copy of Windows 7 will last me quite a while.
  21. I might be a little biased, since I did pledge $140 on the first day... but I personally think they should leave beta access as-is. Hell, I'm surprised they offered it to collectors edition backers at all! Increasing the amount of beta testers won't actually get anything done. My prior experience in beta of other games (MMO's I'll admit) has shown most beta testers just want to use it as an excuse to play the game early, then complain it wasn't living up to their expectations rather than actually trying to find bugs. Less testers may actually work better in this instance.
  22. I might be wrong in my assumption, but the OP seems to be pointing towards how BG and BG2 worked. You outright needed magic/silver/good weapons for some mobs or it did nothing. These days, RPG systems tend to give their monsters Damage Reduction. By the time you're fighting the big, nasty demon, you'll probably be doing enough damage to flat out ignore it's DR. Ok, you might not do as much damage as if you had the holy weapon, wielded by a virgin or some rubbish like that, but you'll still bloody well hurt it! I'd definitely like to see less "Immunities" so you don't need x character at y point with z skill, and more "resistances" so you can still get the job done, even with a sub-standard party. Reward experimentation with characters and party make-up... don't stifle it.
  23. I would very much love this game to be similar to the RPG's of the late 90's and even the early 2000's. Baldur's Gate 2 was probably my favourite RPG. If I could have a game that was a mixture of that, and Dragon Age: Origins, I'd be happy. The combat of Origins was awesome, as was how much you could control the camera (I basically played it top-down view), but I liked a lot of the character features in Baldur's Gate 2 (like the 100-odd spells mages and clerics get.... yeah, I'm probably over-exaggerating, but you get my point compared to DA:O mages). Just, for the love of god, don't make it like Dragon Age 2. That game forced you down a very specific path, the combat felt more like an Action game rather than an RPG (all it was missing was hitting buttons at the right time for super-awesome-epic-power-combo!!!!!!) and the story was kinda meh. I like my computer RPG's to feel as close to pen'n'paper as possible. Maybe unrealistic, but that's what I enjoy.
