Bless you all, and thank you, Obsidian for allowing us to get the game DRM free. Me <3 you long time! EDIT: Back in the day I bought multiple copies of the Fallout games and NWN 2 (including expansions). I have tried to support yall as much as I could, but I wish I had the monies to spend on higher tiers now.

Factions in Project Eternity
Gurkog replied to IcyDeadPeople's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
instead of lame TES style factions there should be competing criminal organizations, mercenary forces, townships, regional powerbrokers, some kingdoms, religious institutions, etc... none of them would be based on classes, but they may have more demand and opportunities for some. -
Counter magic?
Gurkog replied to fan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I find smacking mages about the head with a mace to be an effective counter. -
Factions in Project Eternity

The more reactivity in every aspect of the game, the better. Choices and consequences are the most important part of any game. -
I have never enjoyed crafting systems in single player RPGs. I think it is because crafting reminds me too much of MMO's. There is rarely enough content in single player games to get much use out of them, anyway. I could see an ARPG like Diablo or Torchlight that has no 'conclusion' could use crafting to great effect though.

Achievements
Gurkog replied to buggeer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I do not mind achievements for strategy, tower defense, or other such games because I consider them as extra missions. For RPGs though, I think they are rather lame. I think most companies use the steam achievement system to track customer activity for future reference how to distribute resources in the next title. -
How realistic is your cup of tea?
Gurkog replied to exodiark's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
A lot of meth heads and illegal immigrants living in ditches around here. Ever watch a family bath in a mud puddle in a public park, after picking out the used syringes and other trash? There could be something similar in the game... but I am not anxious to see that stuff in my breaks from reality. -

if by realism you mean stone monkey statues flinging rock poo at people.... hmmm sounds good to me. -
Combat - Immersion v. Simplicity

Attacking a metal golem with a dagger..... it may take a while to break it down. -

of ranger bondage

Would be nice to have variance ranging from big game hunter, bounty hunter, tracker for lost livestock or preadtors. Lots of different ways of 'Ranging'! -
Weapon Balancing
Gurkog replied to Longknife's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Attack speed, fatigue damage, damage variance, durability, 1 or 2-handed.... Arcanum had a pretty nice system for distinguishing weapons even if the combat system was kind of clunky. Perhaps attack range and armor piercing capabilities could be a factor as well when choosing between a burly 2-hand sword and a club. -
There seemed to be a lot of gossip on the Facebook page that Eternity will be based on the Wheel of Time.... that would explain the souls theme. The series bored me so much I felt physical pain trying to read it after a few books in, but there is a lot of sound lore and stuff that could be used well by better writers.

The day/night cycles were a greta part of the older games. New ones feel less genuine without them. No cycle means the world feels less real and that hurts my suspension of disbelief... especially when the cycle is triggered by quest triggers instead of a natural progression.

Urgency: Please Have It
Gurkog replied to Zombra's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I liked how the companions in BG series had time sensitive quests that are usually related to or near the major quest events. They are optional, but reward the player for going to the critical places and doing the main events in a timely manner. The NPC may leave or even attack you for wasting their time with your false promise of help if you do not finish their objectives within a reasonable time frame. -
My weapon does nothing!
Gurkog replied to PsychoBlonde's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Outright immunity should be really rare, but heavily resistant could be more common. Just have to stab that rock a lot more times than you would smacking it with a sledgehammer.- 141 replies
