About Economy in cRPG
Hassat Hunter replied to DocDoomII's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Well, obviously, in any *good* RPG (since you mention fable) you don't buy and sell at the same price. No one expects that. It's also not realistic from the vendor, and leads exactly to the exploits portraited. Also a good thing to include with dynamic pricing would be exactly something to counter above 2 strategies. And that is that the price isn't adjusted after the sale, but already being calculated. So if you add 10 of X for 100 it's 1000, then the price increases to 105. Going to eleven immediately gives 1105, not still 1100. So stocking up and selling all at once, or buying a lot at once isn't really a tactic that's worthwhile... -

Right. I was reading it more like they never made an IP where they had themselves all reigns (which definitely was the case for AP). Didn't take into account it would also mean owning said IP. -
As another user already stated though, that can be annoying if you just want to change the armor of 2 characters with each other. You can't just swap them (since the first would have none), you need a bogus armor to swap around the first, the swap it with the second, then go back to the first and give him the seconds armor. That's just bad design in my book.

Steam and GOG
Hassat Hunter replied to HumanFlesh+5's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I generally only use Steam if forced (grrrr...) or to get good discounts. Tip; Never EVER pay full price. If there's no difference, as would be this case, I obviously would prefer the GOG method over Steam. So yeah, GOG here for me. It would be interesting to see once PE is done how the shift is. I kinda expect the more hardcore RPG-fans go GOG, but Steam still getting more copies than GOG... Time will tell. -

Aside from AP? But considering I really liked that game, good hopes for one that doesn't stop after a single iteration. -
1. Obviously no. I want to have full control. If I leave them, they just stick to the Adventurers hall. I don't see why "naked" adventurers still have basic clothing (like in Baldur's Gate). It's really not needed to go the Dragon Age route leaving them in their shorts. That immediately solves that problem. 2. Depends really on the character. Some might be with you for a reason, free. But some more merc ones could work too. Or events where the player needs to assist (kinda keep style, but with your party member), like giving some money to send meds to his/her hometown, without turning full sidequests. 3. I'd like that. Also in line with suggestions here, and something Dragon Age did good you could give some special items to a particular NPC and that would turn into a "special item" for that character, just to be used by them. I also like the idea of keeping around unique items, but I have no fear OE will adhere to that. Wheter you can replace them (either being forced in the inventory or totally free afterwards), can absolutely not alter them or something else really depends on the situation. Heck, it may even change after a sidequest if that precious family ring had a nasty story behind it, and the character who treasured it before now doesn't want anything to do with it. So much a developer could do with this, without completely locking out stuff or making supreme convoluted systems as some here suggest...

Already got all 3 games, so yeah, not that interested either. Don't have any of the DLC's though. Only really interested in the Shadow Broker one after all the stories I heard. Back thing about DLC being on some BioWare network is I have no idea when they're on sale. If they are ever on sale.

I already got pretty much everything I want though, besides Team Hospital (waiting for a sale) or games that just aren't on there like NOLF... But who knows. Anyone knows much about this Divinity stuff? I already have DKS on disk, is the developer edition also going to be for that? And I already bought the other 2 divinity's, so the sale's not much good for me. But anyone not having any of them yet? Go go go, what are you waiting for?!

The Walking Dead Episode 4. They gave you an entire clean slate, nothing from the other episodes mattering. Not really a good thing for a game tailored to your choices. Still very much an interactive movie. They decided to give up on one zombie being a threat, so here you're eventually killing 20 in the time span of 2 minutes. If my guy is such an awesome killing machine, why are we running in the first place. Especially from the 5 or so in past episodes? (although I guess they would want more but have engine limitations). Also, gun never gets out of ammo. I surely have fired hundreds of rounds since episode 1 and it's still the same gun with the same clip and we never found any more ammo (actually, all guns found are generally with just a few bullets or none). Eh... Also there was a very stupid story decision in the end, with someone complaining I sucked as a leader, and everyone was going to die. Was this based on the decision wheter or not I risked my life saving a teammate just 1 minute before that? Surely not, it was because I lied at the start of the episode, and by doing so aided my team considerably. Seems some pretty strange morality there. "Hello, weren't you with the team in the past scene, with all the zombies, and how I saved everyone? Helloooo?" It better has a good finale episode. They make how many people you can take along to episode 5 seem like it's a great deal, I would hate for it to be all smoke and mirrors...

I've chosen random loot of a list, and other. Why? I prefer it with fixed items where appropriate. And randomnised otherwised. Though not truly random, as that could lead to weird stuff like all random loot games show (chickens with halberds anyone?). It would definitely add to the replayability. What you see is what you get is just too much. Not every enemy killed needs items picked from, that would just lead to major inventory clutter. And why would I want to carry around 25 1gp boots? So yeah, it's better just to keep it to the minimum. Which would be my same opinion for "vendor loot". Funny since there wasn't a 'none'. It should atleast have some description. And preferably actually be used for something, like a sidequest. You can always buy it back. Well, unless a vendor got killed or kidnapped or something, but that would be OE's issue .

About Economy in cRPG
Hassat Hunter replied to DocDoomII's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
It's gotten worse! I agree to everything of #1, and... nothing of the rest. And yes, the definite solution would be to provide quality items in shops. Baldur's Gate II had this, with many unique and powerful shop items. So did KOTOR1 where all the best stuff was in shops. Money was worthless in KOTOR2 when the best stuff dropped on the street. Also of course a steady stream of healing and buff potions could drain the cash, if they aren't dropped more often than used, as happens in most RPG's. -
Pets
Hassat Hunter replied to Frenetic Pony's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I am going to assume more the Torchlight way of pets. But we'll see. Obviously agreeing having multiple options (lynx!) and making some of them "unlock" in the world by saving, or buying, or summoning, or whatever would be good. Could also decorate your house. Personal desire would have me seperate the boon from the animal/being/thingy type though. Maybe have it learned? This to not make your favorite pet a bad choice just cause it's boost isn't the most useful to you. That way you can have the "skin" you want (just like your own characters looks) and still the bonus you're looking for. Of course bonusses shouldn't be easy to acquire, and preferably permanent choices. No turning back... -
Level up rate?
Hassat Hunter replied to rjshae's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
It'd prefer slower progression, with each level up feeling like an achievement and a definite increase in power and functionality. For the lesser increases in power inbetween is gear. You do feel better with a good armor, good sword, lots of different potions and spells. But the level-up should still be the cake. Not just a "yeah, you have +1 to attack... well, I know inbetween these level-ups you got +3 from your weapon drops"... -
Biased poll... :/ Yes, I would like variety. Too many games these days just allow you to kill everything with the same weapon. Why shouldn't the game be allowed to vary and keep you on your toes that way. Why has this gone away? Healing undead to kill them, ending trolls with fire or acid, getting that magic weapon to finally kill the opponent that was undamagable. All some of the good parts of Baldur's Gate modern games, including Dragon Age sorely lack. Also, I do disagree that if you're send out to kill a village of Werewolves, are stated they need silver weapons/ammo to hit, and you can buy it in that village it even needs silver weapon drops. It's called intelligence. I would love for some games to actually make me not feel like they think I am a retarded idiot. So, all in all, the more variety in combat situations and the less "one sollution to solve all" the better... and if that means carrying more swords, so be it. Which RPG this day doesn't have 2 weapon outfits anyway with a quick change between them. Anyone?

I personally hate crafting in games. The Witcher II definitely showed one of the worst cases of why. Gathering around items for naught, needing many items for any item. What's crafted being replaced within 30 minutes, or actually being the top gear. No, thank you. I much rather have Baldur's Gate's II system. Unique hand-crafted items (so no Borderlands randomness), and when updated done so by finding specific unique items, not gathering 20 wood somewhere. That doesn't exclude randomness (most items could still be randomnised), just the important ones be fixed.

If you wanted another class...
Hassat Hunter replied to Gecimen's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Enough classes, it seems to me. A wide variety of pets/summons etc. would definitely be nice. I like having beasty armies. I would have suggested shapeshifter, but I'm going to assume the druid has such functionality. -
I don't need a mac or linux version. I don't need Russian or Chinese or German or whatever. All those damn stretchgoals. I better give up the game now since I am surely dissapointed they spend money at such frivilous things like supporting other languages or support systems. Waste of perfectly good millions. Couldn't they have done something better with that? I suggest a giant golden statue of me. Made by 5 graphic designers over the course of 3 months. Should be a stretch goal...

Well, sometimes it can help. Think Alpha Protocol or TOR, so you can't easily take back your choices in dialogue. Of course, the majority hated AP's system for some reason, so, yeah... :/

Just waiting for sales. Haven't even played a single GOG game, even if I really want to do some pretty soon (PS:T, Longest Journey, Dungeon Keeper 2, Outcast)
-
Very very buggy. Looking forward to the updated version... may take a while. I feel like peanuts just supporting 2 games, PE and Expedition. :/
-
No, I was more talking about a lot of people having issues with things the game plain tells you to do... like you know, aiming. Or gathering intel. Or all those other major "issues" which aren't issues at all. Yup, heard it too. Funny enough from people not even playing the game. Just look up the AP boards. There's this one thread of a guy stating OE needs to fix about 12 things to make the game good. And afterwards mentions he hasn't even played the game. Stuff like that? Way too common. Do I understand the hate? Not really... Now if people actually have good arguments I wouldn't mind them. But so far I know everybody who played the game loved it, it's just that don't which talk smack for some reason. Don't ask me to understand that...

Hear hear. It's the same why looking at older movies the matte paintings hold up, but the CGI looks terribly outdated. And yes, CGI these days also still looks rather horrible in most cases. As for anyone asking if DA:O, Drakensang etc. look better than BG2 or PS:T the answer would be... no. I am pretty sure I'm not the only one. I don't really see why anyone would prefer making it look worse, AND add camera issues to distract from proper gameplay is a good thing :/... seriously people think that?

Jump Around
Hassat Hunter replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'd rather have it be incident based (*climb fence, jump over bridge*) rather than an action for characters. In an isometric-based party system RPG it really has no function.
