Show me one deity that doesn't reflect human morals and vices depending on the time and region they first cropped up. They're all created in our image. As for these gods, they represent the good old celestial government that can be found in so many polytheistic cultures. Each god is a minister, responsible for certain sectors of the administration of worldly affairs.

Favorite quest?
abaris replied to qualiyah's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
It happened to me only once and at a much later stage of the game. When dealing with the master below and not fighting her, I had a reason to go there again and ran into them. Well, bad for them, since my party pretty much scratched the level cap at that point in time and they were virtually blown to pieces in one second. -
Consequences of Raedric's Hold
abaris replied to williamgodfrey's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I am too interested in this, i went back to glided vale and the hold and still no event, what do i ave to do to trigger it? There's an npc in the twin elms tavern that triggers it That's not even necessary. Your stronghold gets attacked by a certain kind of enemy at some point. After that attack, if talking to the steward, she hands you a message containing the details. But as has been said. It's not that interesting compared to other quests and events. Killing Kolsc doesn't seem to have any impact at all other than Guilded Vale not being as happy with your decision than it is when Raedric is killed. -
The stores generally are a disappointment. The only thing they're good for is to get rid of some junk loot quickly. But overall I've got no problem with the stronghold design. Especially after patch 1.05, which no longer requires you to sit out 4 map transitions in and out of Brighthollow to get a decent rest.

Romance Packs DLC
abaris replied to GadgetSun's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You know what they say, don't you? The Mythbusters proved that you can polish it and if it's served on a silver platter it might rake in some cash. The horse armor may be a legendary example, but the more brazen ones are microtransactions for online games. In principle I have nothing against romance options in games. But most of the times they're just tagged on without offering a convincing reason for the player romancing NPC X or Y. A rather nice example would be NWN2 where my chaotic/evil female wizard romanced the Paladin for spite. Because it was possible and because it was good for a laugh. If there's a good backstory involved, I have nothing against it. And before anyone tires me out with another ramble about Bioware's gay agenda, I have no problem with same sex romances either, as long as the character's backstory supports them. -
That's exactly what I would have wanted. Not being a nothing from start to finish. Not being treated like the stable boy when being head of a guild in question. Not being told over and over by the mage in Whiterun to join the mages college when I'm already the frigging arch mage. I was drawn into Morrowind, but that was back in 2002 when the concept had been a novel one. In 2012 I expected quite a bit more.

Been some time, but I'm bringing this up again, since I just noticed that you can get that spear in question without any bloodshed and without doing the Dozens quest. I choose the Doemenels, went through the meeting and was just on my merry way to Twyn Elms, when I happened to stop at the ruins in question noticing that the stair symbol was there smack in the middle. I descended, went through the spider trash mobs and just out of curiosity descended further to where you should pick up the weapons for the Dozens and meet that Vithrac you can either let go or fight. I let him go and there on the altar or table behind him was the spear.

Compared to other games it felt rather important. Looking at Skyrim's totally inconsequential Dragon Born here. In my opinion you also have to look at what they managed with a rather smallish budget compared ot other titles virtually burning money in their development. Of course all your choices and your personality could have more of an impact, but apart from D:OS I fail to name even one title that managed more than scratching the surface of character development and the world reacting to the player. The sad fact is that within the last five or six years we've had only hack and slash and sandbox to choose from.

Od Nua by Char Levels
abaris replied to VahnXIII's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There's only one criterion being really important at level 8 and that's tied to the main quest. -
AI in the future?
abaris replied to Zherot's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I wouldn't even know how a party AI should look like. The probable outcome would be lots of friendly fire, unnecessary use of spellpower and generally putting themselves in harms way more than need be. Otherwise the parameters would be virtually unlimited, given that there are eight companions with an abundance of different levelling options. And then there's those peeps, who like to run a custom party, which again adds unlimited variables. The work going into something like that would be tremendeous. Enemy AI is the more important and more feasable option for sure. As has been said, I also had the running in circles oppnents, desperately looking for their one and only target to land a hit instead of going with the one standing in their way. And I guess their targetting has more to do with some of the attributes or defenses than the character targetted being a spell caster. I think, they're looking for easy to damage rather than what class their target actually is. -
An Honest but Harsh Review on the Setting
abaris replied to guguma's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
You haven't been to Australia have you? People do this to me all the time. Happens in Austria too. Just today I happened to have such a lovely conversation on the street. Not directed at me, but about a common experience we shared. Choice words were used. -
How to fight?
abaris replied to Axcel's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's also pretty safe to attack from the ramparts. I would argue, it's safer taking that door and luring the crowd to you than coming from the moat, which attracts much more at once aggro. And it's absolutely manageable at level 4. At least on normal difficulty. I gotta disagree. Coming out the keep door will cause you to be surrounded on 3 sides with no ability to limit your frontage. If you come through the castle's front gate, you can somewhat limit your frontage. Sure, it's a wide gate, but they'll still be coming at you from ahead, and not starting on your front, left and right. I wasn't talking about the keep door, I was talking about coming from the ramparts. -
Fragments of a Scattered Faith Bug?

If you don't have a Cypher in your party, you have to go to Dunrid row in Defiance Bay. -

ETA on Expansions?
abaris replied to redneckdevil's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
A lot of ifs for something we don't know the first thing about. Not what it is, not when it is to be. -
How to fight?
abaris replied to Axcel's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You can reach that point whichever approach you have chosen. It's not dependent on the point of entry. But as has been said, this looks Gung Ho without any thoughts on terrain, fatigue or party composition. A sure recipe for a premature demise. -
ETA on Expansions?
abaris replied to redneckdevil's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Of course, these aren't realistic assumptions. But it's not as if they're just starting out. They already worked on it during the main production. Otherwise it wouldn't be possible to release them within this year. It's also what I read in some online interviews. -
Cypher main is really boring now
abaris replied to Narla's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I honestly don't know what this Cypher are kind of useless/boring thing is after 1.05. Cypher's still my favorite class. It was before the patch and it's now. I did a direct comparison running a rogue and a Cypher and the Cypher is still by far the more dangerous character. Most kills, most overall damage and, at least for a time, most crits. That only changed when I took a custom made monk into the party. And I don't even use the high level spells that often. Mostly I get away with first and second level spells and one of the unique pistoly you get. -
Which is kind of refreshing, since you can avoid fights without a guilty player conscience.

"That doesn't feel right"
abaris replied to petrivanzyl's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah, it's irritating. Pallegina always shouts "need something sharper" although she just landed one hell of a hit. -
Some I would, some I wouldn't. Sagani is a pain in the hindquarters. No emotion, giving the impression of simply reading text from a sheet. Durance, Aloth, Eder, Pallegina, Hirawias - all good. But GM is another major pain. Her voiced lines seem just badly written. Kana's a mixed bag actually. As for the NPC population, it's also a mixed bag.
