Combination of: Priest/LifegiverDruid/Chanter/Paladin(Shieldbearer or KindWayfere). You actually can do any combination, and it will work. Druid has some interesting offensive spells. Druid Priest may require more dex.Chanter/Paladin do more with passives or quickcast. Paladin can do some dmg with FoD. Paldin also have quickheal LoH, and with shieldbearer could be tank. Paladin is levelpoints intensive. Druid,Priest are not. Chanter could be (it depends).

Josh has said that's not the reason. They did it the way they did because it was proving too complicated to allow full customizability for companions. He said they aren't ruling out changing it in the future. That is why theyre could be "favorite" class and then bunch of multiclass, so each time same companion will play a bit different. If not fully customization, then there could be longer list to choose from (6?) Moders are able to change CompanionTables file, so it is notimpossible. They have telemetric data, so can check which combos are desired, and pass on Priest/Cipher one. There could a text lebeles "we reallly recommend this class for this character" or "for the last time, dont multiclass if you dont know what you are doing".

For starter it would be great if there was more option than 3 to pick class for companions. More like 6 or 8. It is better to run with companions than hirelings. But i also want to experiment with different builds, and have more or less balanced party. For starter, there could be like 1-2 favorite class for each companion, but after that they could MC more freely.

They needed to work somehow with limited time/resources. Ydwin is potencially very interesting character, with signifcant to the whole story, and chance for RP input. It would be great if Ydwin was more fleshed out at some point. However this dont need to be full companion with everything. It could be enought: 10 min of text Discussion on ship about past and everything Some banters with full companions but not other sidekicks Some input in quest, especially related to animancy or tailoring. Sismance with Palllegine, since all gods deserve to die Maybe sidequest, but this could be either as sidekick or as questiver if we dont recruit her. And that is it. No relations could be a bonus, since we have enought companions judging our actions, and dropping our party if we blew it up.

Update #48 - What's Next?
evilcat replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Announcements & News
Inreasing number of enemies, does not always help. It may only change party for more aoe characters. What is problem: Abilities which proc to infinity. Abilities giving inmortality. Specific items which are much better (generally about procing). Very easy to get PL from Ascension Potion. The way high power spells scale with PL. It should be "All spells start at level 0 with base power, and then each level powers them up" (normally it is +9PL from pure class. Enemies seems to have to little health, making them too easy to one shot with blast. Buffs, debuffs are waste of effort, since they have long casting time, and short duration. And it is easy to just kill. Enemies hit hard enought. That is for starter. -
Most Ridiculous Deaths
evilcat replied to Slotharingia's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Not party wipe, but: Xoti was dying in every combat, even the easy ones. Protip: When setting AI for Gauns Harvest, do not leave self as target. -
Maia broken character design
evilcat replied to Ildun's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
IS there a story way to side with VTC and still have Maia? Other than sending her to ship on the whole Castro Trial and blowups. -
Real pirates enjoy freedom in all forms and briefs. Also to put pants on, you first need to know ehre you left them.

Adressing Empowered Whitter/MeteorStorm is probably good idea. They may also look at Ascession potion, that is some easy +6PL Not sure what is the deal with food. Is it PotD thing? Since anything resting related is not a problem. I do not rest often. Around once in a few difficult fights. Mostly in taverns. It could be a long time without rest. If resting in wildness generally using good food. SInce if i can have free +3 mod on dex or might i would take it. In PoE2 it is hard to abuse resting. And trying to "fix" resting will probably break some new things. For me camp food and taverns are now in sweet spot when i notice their existence, but the whole resting is not annoying.

Ydwin - Rogue or Cipher?
evilcat replied to Gary1986's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Why not both? Rogue/Cipher with eyestrike and some pistols could be really fun to play. -
Who is Mirke?
evilcat replied to Infinitron's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Little birds talk about Monk, or Monk/Rogue, or Monk/FIghter But it may be not true. Now the better question: Why is Mirke? -
VTC Castro is not that bad, they are still greedy bastards, but at least they push research over adra, and there is a chance they will do something with wheel. Also they have teleporting maschine, so they do some work. Furante Principi, establishing island kingdom is not the worse thing to do. It is similar to what other factions already have. It is some progress over piracy.

Power level buffing is a large part of the problem with the OPness of alot of aspects in this game's balance issues. Honestly, I feel like PL buffs should be capped at +3 or +4 and/or give diminishing returns to damage/effects. Also empower single abilities is an issue as well. It should be changed/removed/reworked. It can not stay like it is and have any kind of balanced difficulty, especially when resting is free. More or less. Especially the potion part is a bummer. You get 9 PL from levels, but 6 from easy potion. It cannot be balanced this way. Sorcerers: Are fun, just need to pick the right spells and avoid long cast times.

You could pick ChillFog as your first level spell, and then just retrain if you find final grimoire. You could use wizard points on picking weapon style. \this one is quite unique: https://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Ninagauth%27s_Teachings This are not all grimoires: https://pillarsofeternity2.wiki.fextralife.com/Grimoires

There is a good size for dungeon like Roderick Stronghold or Durgan Battery. But going bigger or deeper, could be boring, and dilute theme of dungeon, turning it into monster safarri (and now level fill with ooze). Maybe Catacombs should go deeper, graveyard is great place for uneased spirits. Generally there is a issue, that we could spend too much time doing talk quests around level 7, which is fine. But there could be a route to do killing monsters.

The problem is that the list of wizard self buffs is not that long. After them you can start casting cone spells, but that does not build focus. Martial classes could provide more focus for cipher. If you care about some illusion spells, there is Trickster Rogue. Cipher/ Rogue, Fighter, Monk, Barbarian, BleakWaker could work better. BleakWaker is great with good spike dmg from FOD. and it has passives similar to Wizard selfbuffs. CIpher has some selfbuffs which are similar to wizardy, at some point you need stop selfbuffing, and start smashing. You could also go Wizard route and focus on some self buffs with cone shape spells, or center around caster spells. You can do this. And it will work vs enemies. There is just not so much synergy to speak off.

If you want Assasin backstabber, you need reliable way to turn invisible. So shadowing beyond is "good" for that. Prefered at low levels, so the build could start shine early. At level 8 and 9 add Guile Master +3 Guile passive and Guile Grandmastery. So Rogue could use some other abilities than cripping strike and finishing blow, and not because this two are OP, but since there is no Guile for enything else. Also if they could put at tier 1 one or two active abilities more. Having choice of Escape/Cripping strike all the time is not much choice. The upgrades could be high level.

What is the total bonus power level of your character and what are the sources? 9 From lv 19 +1PL from evoker, requires great sacrifizes. +6PL from potion looks very easy in comparison. +1 from Prestige, well it is tier 9 passive +2 Nature Godlike, probably too much, +2 from gear (i suppose) +5 Empowered attack
-
Look like fun build. I suppose Rogue/Cipher could use more stealth if you plan Backstabs. And Wizard/Druid could be Nature Godlike (even with nerfs). For MC Diplo/Insight/Bluff are "best", at least apear in conversation often enought. And so does Deadfire origin. CIpher, Priest of Eothas/Berath appear in conversation more often (for PC). Scientist could swap Per and Mig (or Dex). Not hitting is bigger bummer than slow hitting. Also Lifegiver does not give up much, so is worth consideration.

It would interesting if there was more themed grimoires like: Dedicated to each element or two elements. Dedicated to CC Dedicated to Battle Mage Absolutly grimoires dedicated to each specialization. Example: Novice Grimoir: Allows to cast +1 spell on level 1-3, but does not contain spells from level 4+. Could be find in noobcave. Spells: ChillFog, Missiles, NecroLance, Veil, Fireball, AcidBlast. Some named grimoires had some passive bonus. Like Fire and Spar grimoir gives bonus for fire and spark tag attacks. So if we already picked up spells from book with levels, we can still benefit from themed grimoir. There is also situacion that with 28 level points, we can pick x2 per tier spells for variety, and there is not much we can pick more from passives, other than collecting save bonuses. Or arms bearer for acquebuser alpha strike. But that is not way of magic. There could be some crazy passives like "Your attack with wands are better" or "Your fire tag deals more dmg" Or completly generic "+2 to acc with spells" so if we have spare level points could dump them on something which is not total waste. But overall Wizards are not bad solo class, and have some potencial with MC.

Just a comparison who was a deadliest character in your party and how much. Even better full setup with each charcter performance, but only 1 is also ok. For me: Veteran dif, lv 19 PC Soulblade/Assasin 38k (the whole invisibility+backstab thing takes some combat time) Eder Rogue/Fighter 35,5k Tekehu Chanter/Druid 23,5k (possible some mistakes in build and AI setting) Xoti Priest 34,5k (must be friendly fire, rise after lv 11) Maia Scout 41,5k (soulbound rifle) Some companions wasnt full time, like Teheku or Maia. Also Maia and Eder has easiest AI. * Topic more for just sharing data, and result, not intense discussion (there are other topics for that). Extra information, like "this char, wasnt geared/ai properly, most welcome. Or just info about good gear, ability which helped achieve such result. For you?

I think that is opposite. That some classes has very limited resource pool, so as soon as they could expand it, it is great. With single class Rogue you could store about 11 guile, maybe more with some items. Your abilities cost 2-3 (the good one). So you can cast 4/5 special attacks and you are dry. Which leaves using 2-3 abilities over, and over again. Or passives, or MC. Also great bonus for any class with unlimited resources. The solution is to give passives like Guile Master/Grandmastery at level 8 and 9, so classes could build up own resource to use all the cool abilities. With nerfs there are two kind of power: Regular power, which every class should have at some point. Bug power, with interaction not expected or desired, like infinite critical attacks, or burning faces without dying.
