  5. I dont think UBI is necessarily meant to address unemployment, more so its a supplement intended to raise the baseline standard of living. For example, my lord and savior Andrew Yang proposed 1k / adult / month. Since its just me and my wife living here now thats only 2k / month. We couldnt quit our jobs on that and our monthly bills greatly exceed that. But it would significantly reduce the pressures of life, increase spending potential, and I cant state this strongly enough, I would finally be able to pursue my dreams of becoming an international interpretive dancing star.

  7. I spent a big chunk of my life alone (bar friends and colleagues) while trying to find "the right one". Played a lot of video games, probably partly for this reason. I had also had time to read and write. I don't really want to come back to this time. It was a little sad. But it is still part of what made me into what I am. Sometimes, I look at this time with pink-tinted glasses for this reason, but that's an illusion. I'm happy with my family, even if sometimes I would appreciate a little more time for myself (but the girls are going to grow up, so...). (I would appreciate time with my spouse too, but that's another story. It seems that our planned dream trip to Uzbekistan isn't going to be soon ; I'll ask @Boeroer advices when it would happen ) Being on my own for a while is basically a way to actually live again this phase of my life without experiencing the main drawbacks. In addition, I spent more time on creating the mod than actually playing lately. Which is also an issue since I have to use the mod to check if everything feels comfortable with it. Somehow, I can say that I have a kind of "responsibility" to play I would like to find time to write a bit, but to be honest, even if BPM is not the most popular PoE2 mod, it has still a far wider audience than anything I wrote

  11. Seek not wickedness amongst your fellow forumites, lest it finds purchase in your own posts. But you raised your gaze to the sun, and as its light flooded your being, the light of your own eyes diminished. Now you are all but blind to these depths, only whispers and rumors left. Knowledge of what once was, but shall never be seen again. Only we are left to stare into that darkness, and we do it gladly. As it should be. As it must be.

  12. I was more thinking I'd want an actual reaction emote, like you can do in the bottom right of other people's posts, for posts that are so inexplicably terrible that they warrant no response, just that look of disgust or outright death, . Some say you can still find traces of them in the darkest depths of these forums...

  13. To be fair, violence between police and civilians tends to have political implications and discussions around it. Footage of that type of violence tends to be considered more as evidence for any conversations around the point. Domestic violence (between family members regardless of their positions within the family) tends to be a general social discussion, and is likely to hit more folks on the forum closer to home (no pun intended) due to more people likely to have experienced or been exposed to it. I think the key question would be around was the video needed to make a point about the discussion or was it there simply to show off violence in a shock-horror way?

  14. Note that my comment was not to dredge up the discussion about the video again, but just to counter ComradeYellow's assertion that it was "some kind of illusory psychological stigma that has no basis on reality" because "(b)ased off of (his) life experience and interactions with the world, Russians and Chinese appear to be far more civilized and wise than the violent and angry people from North America".

  16. Just a bit of comments about the classes I have choosen with reference to BPM changes : Enchanter is pretty meh in the base game. +2 enchanting power levels isn't going to change your life since they mostly apply to duration (high level echanting spells are also a bit meh) and the passive is a one-shot that you can't even control. (Of all wiz subclasses, I consider that only base Wiz and Evoker are balanced. Blood Mage is too strong, and other specialist has meh special feat. ) That why I tweaked the subclass so the Dexterity affliction immunity is always applied when under the effect of a Dex Inspiration. Perfect combo with fleet feet and DAoM. Since the bonus is a bit situational I added a small +10% beneficial effects duration as a small but universally useful bonus. 2 bonuses isn't too strong compared to what Evoker gets and given how meh PL bonus is for Enchanter. The reason I picked SC Enchanter is because I initially wanted to pick SC Conjurer and use summoned weapons. I felt it was sad to pick SC Conjurer while I can pick Fassina in a future run so I went with SC Enchanter. The main benefit for it is the access to the powerful Tier IX evocation spells. Nothing special about these class. Debonaire is great vs kiths and benefit a lot from having a Cipher in the party. BPM only allows a bit more variety viability when it comes to Rogue's special attacks. I wanted a Kind Wayfarer Barbs. BPM's Mage Slayer has a -25% beneficial effects / -25% hostile effects. It removes the random factor on friendly spells (because random failure on a critical healing spell is the nastiest thing) and makes it more universally useful than vs casters only. The hostile effect reduction is good with pallies for Sacred Immolation, which BPM makes more attractive by halving the zeal cost (you're already paying with your life) Good old Whirling Strikes dual wielder (most likely weapon + gun), viable without BPM, but BPM provides more tools for SC Rangers (viable Bonded Fury, Heartseeker with infinite duration Enfeebled, and infinite Vengeful grief so you technically can ignore your dead pet). I think I like my version of SC ranger No big changes from BPM, but using Community Patch Psion makes the subclass a bit easier to use.

  17. It's funny. Decades ago when I was a teenager, I would dread the time when my parents would come home as that would usually mean the end of my cRPG unsupervised marathon. Now I'm so happy when my parents come to our house because it means they can play with our kid and both my wife and I can get to respectively read and play video games.

  18. Unfortunately Berserker Frenzy fused the beneficial and hostile effects together. So you can't shorten the self damage or confusion with high RES while you keep the beneficial effects. Sacred Immolation works like that but not Berserker Frenzy. Would it be different it would be a valid combo for solo. But as is I think it's not. You'll have two sources of self damage and both can get really nasty with enough Power Level. At the same time you won't have cheap healing sources besides when the curse runs out. Also the best synergy of Berserker/Monk - getting plenty of wounds from the Frenzy self damage - is not there with Forbidden Fist. You can get wounds from Confusion running out - but I don't think that's very impactful. Also the Forbidden Fist ability doesn't count as weapon attack so lots of passives of Berserker and Monk will not work (until you install the Community Patch mod). Like the crit conversion of Frenzy, One Stands Alone, Enervating Blows, Swift Flurry and so on.

  19. Water vapor detected in the atmosphere of Ganymede this would be a bigger deal if the hypothetical water of Ganymede was not so far below the surface. Ganymede would actually be a pretty compelling target for future probes. It’s only 2/3 the size of Mars but has equivalent gravity. Europa is still our best shot of finding liquid water

  20. I've been goofing about in the StarCrawlers: Chimera alpha. Still really rough around the edges, and I'm hoping they won't keep the auto-heal button in the game. When you press space, turns fly by, and you have auto-healing, so when you're down on health, instead of using your consumables or anything you just stand there and wait for a spell. Well, and press space. I sure hope that won't end in a time limit. I could get behind patrols showing up eventually, or something though. Still an alpha, after all. Not liking the Force Psyker changes so far.

  22. I faced Dorudugan this weekend, with a quite standard party, without any cheese involved (BDD + Brilliant + SoT doesn't work with my mod anyway). Without a Cipher, with ressource-limited casters, etc. Everybody glouped a Potion of Enlightenment. It was satisfying to have my SC Druid casting Pollen Patch every 30s or having my Rogue able to flee after magnetic overdrive without fearing ressource depletion. Really kept all party members relevant. Satisfying experience. Dorudugan is still a hard and technical fight. It still lasts arguably for too long. But overall, it was an epic fight. What Megabosses are intended to be (not some sort of party forcing conundrum or slow death by attrition).

  23. One other thing, watching the odd episode of Violet Evergarden has made me click on a YT video of a pair who just started to watch the episodes and does these weirdo reaction videos. I find myself enjoying them for some reason. They're just at episode two now. Hah. Well... I realized something in re-watching a few episodes here and there. This just really pushes all the right buttons for me. It just works, in spite - or maybe because of - the melodramatic elements that are present. In the original sense of the word, not the pejorative it's become now (and if you don't like melodrama why would you watch anime in the first place? It feeds off of it!). And... I've come to the conclusion that I really hate the ending of the movie, and what the worst part about that is, if you'd pick any random ten thousand people who liked the anime, the specials and the film and ask them, 9999 of them would say the ending was great. That really feels like a "me" thing. It's worse even because prior to that it looks like the ending will surpass every expectation I had until it then simply does... what it does. *sigh* I wish I could say I have no idea what you mean, but I get that too, from time to time. I'm still not done with Agents of SHIELD, and I love that show (I've mentioned it once or twice). The last season started super strong and was fun, and I just... dunno. Can't get myself to watch, and that's with every other part of my brain screaming to simply finish it. Meanwhile I have an active desire to watch the rest of Love Live!. Whatever the hell is wrong with me. Eh, I could provide some external pressure. I'll just post an unmarked spoiler every day you don't watch an episode! definitely not a spoiler: Watching that intro that makes perfect sense. That produced an insane amount of nostalgia just from the intro, and I haven't even seen the show. Well that makes it even more appealing. Heh.

  24. I used to hate the emote reactions, but then I learned that they're actually good for either acknowledging someone's post without having to directly respond (especially where a response wouldn't really be necessary outside of the acknowledgement itself) OR for when you forget to actually quote what someone said and you want to make sure they're given some kind of alert. Because of that, I got more into the habit of using them, .

  31. You personally may not make any distinctions, but anyone who has to make decisions when judging violence rarely has that luxury. Which is why content has different ratings based on what it is depicted, why mitigating and aggravating factors exist for crimes, why there are different penalties for different kinds of violence, and so on and so forth. On a personal note, I find that reasoning suspect in any case. For example, a bunch of grown men fighting over a slice of pizza is certainly nowhere near as serious, objectionable or appalling as an adult beating a dog. Both are violence, but I'd hope you agree that they aren't equal. Food for thought.

  34. Total. A weekend pass is £85. Having to pick up each day on its own brings it up to £99 in total. To be fair, they have apparently muchly reduced the number of tickets they are selling and making it more limited access then previous years - keeping up a certain element of social distancing and all to be allowed rather than the usual thronging hordes packed shoulder-to-shoulder. Delta variants might spike, things might get cancelled, dad's health issues might have kicked into something much more serious by then, and a new job (if it gets found) might have issues with holiday booked for then.. But eh. I might as well snag the tickets and book it all and then see what the universe brings to disrupt it, rather than not do it and find everything would have been groovy for me to attend.

  36. I assume everybody who posts here is old and sane enough to make their own decisions when it comes to playing the game. I'm describing what I like and what works well for me. I would never force my recommendations onto anybody though. Your distinction between glitch and proper or "normal" mechanics is subjective and it's a bit silly to try and force that distinction onto other forum readers, and I'll explain why. What really matters for players is whether an action improves their experience with the game - or not. A small glitch may not break the game but even increase the joy of playing it - while an intended mechanic can be used in ways where it utterly breaks the game balance, takes away all challenge and kills the joy. Yet you advocate to skip the first but use the latter (more in that below). What's a "normal" game? Playing solo on PotD is very far from a normal Deadfire game to begin with. Most if not all solo PotD players will take advantage of certain mechanics that grant them more power, intended or unintended ones. The decision to not play a normal game was already made when starting a solo PotD run. Keeping both points in mind I'll give you an example that shows how your approach suffers from hypocrisy: Using Draining Touch with grimoire swapping (so it doesn't get removed after a successful hit) as a solo character on PotD hasn't a game breaking impact. It's good no doubt - but it's not even the best one handed weapon you can get - AND you have to spend a spell use for it + invest grimoire switching time. In fact this action has way less impact than "non-glitched" stuff like Scordeo's Edge + Blade Cascade + WoD (proper mechanics), Grave Calling + Chilling Grave + vessel summons (proper mechanics) or Engoliero do Espirs + Blade Feast + spell kills (proper mechanics...?). With Engoliero do Espirs we could argue that the proc of Blade Feast wasn't even meant to occur on any kill but just on weapon kills. I'd say that's a glitch. You see that not even the clear distinction is problematic when it comes to having fun with the gane in itself - but even the "official" lines between glitchy and normal behavior are blurry. You'll be okay with a Phantom wearing Draining Touch (which won't disappear)... but this is the same underlying effect. It's a glitch. Now, while you condemn the use of Draining Touch + grimoire swapping you like to play and recommend stuff like Assassin/Bloodmage who uses Deltro's Cage, casts Chain Lightning on himself and then prolongs that effect with Wall of Draining while triggering Blade Feast from spell-kills (which will be super potent with the shocking lash of the Helmet and then procs itself over an over). At least iirc that was you, right? You recommended that a lot in the past - although it breaks the game balance a lot more than using Draining Touch does. I personally consider this a gamebreaking cheesy af combination that takes away fun - but you didn't hear me saying that your recommendation saddens me? Did I judge you in any form for doing this although I personally don't like it? No... This shows that your personal distinction between glitch and "normal" or "pure" or "clean" is very subjective. I thought this discussion ended somewhat fruitfully after your debate with @Raven Darkholmeover "Strand of Favor cheese" a few months back - but I guess it did not. What is enjoyable is in the eye of the Beholder (or in this case: player). Whatever tricks and tipps forum members will share: it's the player's choice to decide if they might like that or not. A "purist" approach might fit your needs - but that doesn't have to be the case for everybody. Being a self declared purist doesn't give anybody the right to frown upon or look down on players who recommend and/or play whatever you don't consider to be "normal". There is no moral high ground playing a single player computer game. The artificial and subjective separation between bad and good ways to play, between glitch, cheese and normal is hypocritical. There is no Evangelion "How thou must have fun with Deadfire". It's not a religion where we as forum high priests have to divine the will of our Obsidian dev gods - to tell other players how the holy game has to be played. You can submit to that perceived authority no problem, I won't criticize you or be sad about it or whatever. If this approach gives you the most joy and makes you happy, I'm happy. Just don't try to judge how I (or we as a group) try to share what I like or don't like about the game. Or to recommend what I found enjoyable. I try to make it very clear in every post where I share "special mechanics" that what I recommend is just my opinion - and I try to explain why I think it might be fun. If somebody declares upfront that they don't want to use any cheesy tactics(be it glitch or intended mechanic) I will respect that and not recommend such things of course. And that has to be good enough, seriously.
