  2. Yes and no. You are right that this was not a PDS (the team that designed the megacorp in-jokes) ****-up. This is, however, very much a PDX ****-up. They chose to sub-contract the game to what is likely the cheapest and fastest Chinese alternative "Game Bear Tech" -- who promptly delivered what is, according to accounts from people who have tried the beta, simply a reskin of their own Nova Empire MTX trash heap. So yeah, even if Martin Anward or Daniel Moregård didn't have any hand in this dumpster fire, the board most definitely did, but somehow expected it to go over well in a typical example of executive disconnect.

  8. I have a theory that the culture change is because of the internet. There is no trusted arbiter of truth any more with the diminishing role of traditional media. So, clickbait and fake news, as in factually fake news designed for clicks and emotional appeal, wins out. You know, It's the echo chamber thing, and the fact that people have become used to being abrasive to each other because communication is impersonal. So, attacking the media works. All you have to do is 'win' doesn't matter if you are correct.

  12. I just finished off a dragon in what I assume is DLC. I finally find a bunch of fellow pale elves and they try to get me killed. I got it on the first try, but I managed to make a fairly significant mistake so Serefen ended up with two wounds. Still, it was a fun battle. Since my (wizard) main was the only one doing significant damage to him at the end, and he was looking pretty bad, I don't know if I would have made it had my last spell not hit. Serefen did some good damage. Disintegrate can ruin a day if it hits. Still, that bony bastard dragon had a real hardon for the little runt. Fun times!

  16. I don't use consumables at all (besides the obligatory food when resting). Still I think that if you introduce consumables you better make sure that they have any worthwhile impact. Best is if they do something different than the other items/abilites. Let them have unique effects. Stacking rules are rel. simple: active effects stack, passives don't. Stuff from items stacks. The problem is: it's often not recognizeable what's active and what's passive (besides in the ability tree). Starts with weapon modals. Is an ability that I get from a weapon an active effect or not? And then you have the cases where debuffs/buffs "to all" do stack with debuffs/buffs "to x". See Vigorous Defense, Borrowed Instincts or Llengrath's Safeguard stacking with Mirrored Images or Arcane Veil and so on. Confusing... A solution would be to only give a certain type of effect to a certain group. For example only give direct defense/offense bonuses (defenses, accuracy, dmg) to items and passives. Only give inspirations and afflictions to active abilites. Make scrolls different active abilities than the ones from classes but communicte that they are actives. Give potions direct attribute boosts but no inspirations. And so on. Keep it separate and you don't run into stacking confusion. And where you have overlapping or where it still might be unclear: communicate the stacking rules for this effect right with the item/ability/consumable - every time (not only on the char sheet once it's all active or having to check the combat log for everything). And while you are at it: put stuff like attack speed and recovery on the char sheet where the other stats like weapon dmg and accuracy etc. are. It's not great having to manually check the tooltip ofthe equipped weapon.

  17. Met up with a friend yesterday, had Japanese food. Excellent Sashimi Then we went and saw The Joker. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. A Gotham City movie with no explosions, cape wearing super heroes or any of the usual trademarks. A very interesting movie about a naive guy, who gets gradually worn down by society, his mother, himself and eventually cracks after enough having taken enough abuse, both physically and psychologically. The trailer for Pavarotti looked like it could be an interesting movie too.

  18. I am genuinely curious if they are history savvy enough to realize what a bad look that is. But then again the words "Nazi" and "Socialist" are thrown around so liberally these days their definition is changing before our eyes. It's doubtful the younger college and high school aged folks have more than an abstract understanding of why those words were bad. Especially since people with first or second hand knowledge are dying off. History tends to get sanitized the farther away it gets. You are definitely correct that putting people's backs up is a poor beginning to a thoughtful discussion. But this whole notion of "white privilege" is a bunch of hooey. There is, however, a "majority privilege". It exists in every nation on this earth and benefits, to one extent or another, the ethnic/religious/sociologically homogeneous majority in that country. The US does not ruthlessly persecute and suppress minorities like it once did. Nor does it promote the interests of the ethnic majority over minorities. Quite the opposite actually. Such biases that exist that create a privilege are in the people themselves. And even that lessens with every generation. Malcom X wrote that racism is bred into society. Children learn it from their elders. Compare the US now to the 1960's. The 1940's. It can be bred out of a society too and it seems to be happening. The biggest difference between the US and most of the other countries with respect to majority privilege is they don't spend near as much time navel gazing over it's existence as we do. Is that a good thing? I guess so. The desire to be better is certainly a virtue.

  19. saw this story 'bout a week ago and couldn't think o' a good way to respond. short o' burning books as fuel to prevent hypothermia, am thinking a book burner voluntarily yields moral high ground. burn huckleberry finn. burn bible. burn quran. burn lolita. heck, burn the unabomber's manifesto would bother us on some level. if you are so angered by a writing you cannot respond intelligent, then you should reflect on such anger and consider what the burning says 'bout the act o' destruction, 'cause such destruction doesn't say anything constructive 'bout the work being torched but it does say much 'bout the one indulging in pyrotechnics. ... that said, we do not like "white privilege" label. if you claim minorities is disadvantaged in the US, am suspecting most college aged kids would agree, including those at georgia-southern. however, "white privilege" implies that white folks, regardless o' their situation, didn't earn what they has worked hard to aquire. protestant work ethic, though diminished in recent decades, is still a thing here in the US. Americans tend to work more hours and with less vacation than a large % o' the western world, but even if they didn't, suggest white americans hasn't earned what they got, or has exploited others to succeed means you start a conversation 'bout race by potential placing +60% o' the population on the defensive. meaningful dialectic regarding race is elusive, so why make more difficult when simple change in definitions and labels avoids conflict? have heard the arguments from our family who tell us white americans need "wake up" and realize just how unbalanced is US society, and the only way they recognize the depth o' the inequality is to fundamental challenge preconceptions. unfortunate, from our pov, "white privilege" polarizes listeners rather than creating reflection or dialogue opportunities. why start a conversation with a label you know is gonna drive some portion o' moderate listeners to become adversarial? have watched the baldwin and buckley cambridge debate a few dozen times over the years. much has changed since 1965. sadly, much has remained same. am by nature more inclined to find resonance with baldwin than buckley and am not suggesting "white privilege" is unworthy o' discussion and debate. however, from a practical perspective, those who accuse the 60% o' white privilege is polarizing folks who might ordinarily be open to the notion that unavoidable class handicaps unfair and disproportionate continue to affect large numbers o' Americans, and it polarizes far too many such folks to opposition. nevertheless, one would hope a college campus would be a place where in 2019 white privilege could be discussed w/o resorting to the kinda action we dismiss as a trapping o' nazis... or florida man. HA! Good Fun!

  21. Good point. Lots of trash talk there. If you don't have Blessing points yet or don't want to bring Edér or want to use more than two pets: You can have 5 pets simultaneously without deactivating challenges & blessings: save your game, then type IRoll20s and then UnlockPets Which will unlock athe pet slots of all party members in this cheated instance. No surprise here. Then reload your non-cheated save game --> still unlocked pet slots for you. The UnlockPets command gets activated globally and stays active when reloading. This also used to be the case with FreeRecipesToggle - but I was able to report that during beta (or right after release, can't remember) and it got fixed. I only recently discovered that UnlockPets has the same behavior as original FreeRecipesToggle. That way you can have Concelhaut + Nemnok and three other pets if you wish. There are some nice little synergies possible with 5 pets. It's not OP but it does give you an advantage of course.
