Finished the Diablo4 campaign yesterday. It was ok. People seem to really like the tone better, I've never been able to tell the difference. Act 1, 4 and 5 (out of 5) had some neat moments, but otherwise I felt it was monotonous "let's run after the baddie" stuff. Felt the drama between characters was mostly too forced, couldn't care about a lot of them. Inarius was good, but should have been more prelevant I feel, Lilith was too prelevant but was ok otherwise. The rest were a bore, outside of a spoilery one. Gameplay... I'm not sure what to feel. I've been playing Barbarian, and the enemies in the game run around a LOT, so you need lots of movement skills as a melee character. And it still feels sluggish. I'd have a try some different characters and builds to give an honest opinion.2 points

I used a blood mage / soul blade for the ultimate and am a big advocate of the build. It is extremely strong with good defenses and super high DPS once you hit L13 and get citzal's spirit lance plus borrowed instinct. It does so much DPS because the lance both collects focus from multiple enemies and distributes soul annihilation to multiple enemies (I've hit as many as 10, but usually you hit about five). So once you have the lance you can typically refill your focus in one attack. Here is the build I used. Since it was an ultimate run I used cheese like strand of favor but it isn't necessary on normal runs and the build picks should still apply, though I'd recommend taking wall of draining at L19 and pull of eora at l10 or l11 in place of secrets of rime. I took secrets of rime mostly because I stole watershaper chill fog, but it isn't really needed. Also I'd take phantom foes and not heart of the storm. So the picks are the same except L11 - pull of eora, L12 - phantom foes, L19 - wall of draining and echoing horror. And I'd probably take whispers of treason at L1. In general you hit things with the lance to build focus rapidly, then use soul annihilation with the lance to do tons of damage, while using llengrath's martial mysteries wizard buffs and cipher buff / debuffs (mostly borrowed instinct, but also psychovampiric shield, phantom foes, and secret horrors) to greatly buff yourself and debuff enemies. Before you get the lance you can use the parasitic quarterstaff, or any weapon really, but you'll see a huge dps spike once you get the lance due to it hitting multiple enemies. I went coastal aumaua in this build for the might affliction resistance, but you could go anything but godlike. Could even go godlike if you don't mind losing the nifty hats. Probably nature godlike would be the best choice if you go that way. My top picks for race would probably be pale elf, human, wild orlan, coastal auamaua, wood elf, and mountain dwarf. Let me know if you have any questions And here is another thread discussing hierophants, mostly blood mage / ascendant but also blood mage / soul blade in my posts. And another thread talking about hierophants, with me rambling about blood mage / soul blade some more2 points

[CLASS BUILD] Lodefens - Wild Orlan Paladin - Shieldbearer of St. Elcga This is a standard paladin built on achieving highest deflection possible. In the beginnig there was no way to progress with MAX Resolve, so i went for an offensive build until Act II, then I put all in RES. This is my battle agains him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SdnAYzQgSO4 At Defiance Bay I bought the Sword of Prix and enchanted it with Slaying Kith e Burning Lash, and bought Hanover's Fist of Dodm and enchanted it with Slaying Vessels and Shocking Lash. In Defiance Bay I had been wearing Sun-Touched Mail of Hyran Rath or Äru-Brekr. I did ALL side quest of Act 2 before The Hermit of Hadret House. I did Missing Sentries with some nice bonuses from Serel, getting 19 MIG, 18 CON and 8 Athletics (without points in it). I did also Clandestine Cargo at 7th, and Cail The Silent at 10th: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=us4dIDH5zsA I completed WM1 at 10th level, no need for Scroll of Prayer Against Imprisonment for Lagufaeths, I used mostly Resolution with Slaying Wilders and Corrode Slash. For Galvino's workshop I used St. Ydwen Redeemer (upgraded to last stage using The Ring of Wonder for Second Chance). At level 11th I did Iklak, The Dweller and Cyrdel, to level at 12th. Done Durgan Battery with some pulling, but enough easely. Taken The Unlabored Blade and Ryona's BreastPlate, with some difficulty to kill the Bleak Walkers (some of them have 133 deflection!). Now Eyeless at Iron Flail Fort: St. Ydwen's Redeemer, 5 potions di Llengrath's Displaced Image and 5 of Deleterious Alacrity of Motion with Gauntlets of Accuracy bonus +10 against vessels from Survive and splitting them with 3 shadows: killed almost easily.. Atsur at Caed Nua! Done the Kraken at 14th with Bittercut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRzffqMZIM0 Now I'm going to ACT 3. Kerdhed Pames e Rêghar Konnek for doing Prisons of Ice, killing mostly of Pale Elfs. Taken Blooded Hunter and leveled at 15th. Taken Berath's boon (another +1 RES and +5 against Paralyzed and Petrified). Did At the Mercy of the Tribes and gained Wild Running. Got Song of the Heavens. Oh, ok, the Sky Dragon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op85_i6lVmQ Retrieved Looped Rope at 16th level. At late game you can achieve 185 of Deflection with potions and abilities and 33 Resolve (37 with Redeemer): I took Executioner's Hood and Siegebreaker Gauntlets, they stacks (+10 ACC), but mostly I had worn Garodh's Chorus and Gauntlets of Accuracy. Done ALL bounties except Brynlod... Now Concelhaut, Baelorin and company I had to split them, no problems with Concelhaut apprentices save for Sabel (split/pulling the Skeletons). Concelhaut was easy (tactic involved Wizard's Double, Scroll of Minoletta's Concussive Missiles, Bittercut, Godansthunyr, Aila Braccia and Outworn Buckler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9RhBlbJjNI And now Sefyra with Scale-breaker, 10 Scrolls of Missile Barrage, Infestation of Maggots from Bittercut, Confusion (5), paralysis (5), ring of +4 INT, helm of +4 MIG, coat of +4 PER, shoes of +4 DEX, Wayfare's Hide Durgan Reinforced and +2 Resolve, Steadfast, Aila Braccia and Outworn Buckler: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2NrcOcma3o For fun I've done The Champion of Berath: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDZZFo5IVxk Last (but not least) bounty, Brynlod with 6 charmes, 2 dominates and some Maelstroms https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCGTQRPve5s For Alpine Dragon I "cheated" a little, put all my fiches on high defense, took foes as a shield killing the Dragon with Persistence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2tg3witmUc And in the end Llengrath (I took inspiration from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-7SRHml-k4 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3iFg1qZT80&t=26s ) : And, finally, Thaos. Does the bonus persist even above 50% health ? When removing the weapon ? Does it increase by +10% exactly each time under 50%. Does the accuracy bonus correctly apply normally (under 50% health, then removed above 50%) ? The only difference I notice between the acc and bonus damages is that the bonus damages is filtered to work only on weapon damages. Some hard bug might cause it to become degenerate, but not the acc bonus because reasons. Any further testing would help finding the bug cause/fix.1 point

Nah, game gives 3 guns with trap ammo, when else use them than when babysitting? Those were fun parts, well, most of the time because the game tended to crash a lot when there were lots of effects firing off. Didn't play Minerva's Den, thought it was one of those arena DLCs where you do nothing but fight waves while on timer. In Infinite news, two gun limit sucks and Liz is asking for trouble being so frivolous about parallel realities.1 point

IMO Nature Godlike is worth it if you use the BPM mod, as it provides a much needed boost to the godlikes. However, since I upgraded to a new computer a year ago I can no longer use BPM, as it for some reason crashes the game. For that reason, I typically go with the alternative @Boeroer recommended, a non-godlike race with Stone of Power.1 point

I was playing this build today, and I noticed what might be a bug with Akola Apex Ward, which leads to super crazy weapon damage. My arcane knight landed a hit with his weapon (with eternal flames) that dealt 300 damage. This was pretty crazy since the weapon he was wielding was Last Word, which isn't exactly OP when it comes to damage. I checked the log and it turns out he did 245 piercing damage and 55 fire damage against a pestilent rotgast. Under damage, the log indicated +1400% due to Blood Rage. There was no corresponding boost to accuracy. I have no idea why Blood Rage is doing +1400% damage rather than +10%. I've had the shield for a while, and noticed that the damage was slowly increasing. It seems that the +10% is stacking. This may lead to insane damage eventually.1 point

This is a complex question, as you will probably agree: it has a fairly large timeframe and it spans a lot of countries. But let us take a look at just one of the culprits, the main one, Germany. Germany was exceedingly foolish to bring down its own nuclear energy sector and make itself overly dependent on Russian energy. While the exchange of energy and funds was in and of itself beneficial to both countries, and would in ordinary circumstances count as reasonable exchange and proper co-ordination between countries, what Germany apparently didn't realize at all and what Russia mainly wanted to ensure was that Germany became overly dependent on Russia, which greatly restricted Germany's options in other spheres.1 point

That's your preference. As I made clear not using them is just mine. OP might tend towards your preference or mine. No. As I explicitly wrote above I simply don't use consumables as part of a little personal challenge. I find using them cumbersome (and I especially don't like that scrolls take away the uniqueness of class abilities). Instead of hording them I just sell all consumables (except food bc. you are kind of forced to use food/drink while resting). But I guess there are enough players who don't use consumables because they hoard them. The reason for not making them an integral part of a character build doesn't matter though: if you don't like to use consumables then you shouldn't rely on them when planning a character concept. If you have no problem with using them on a regular basis then that's not a problem of course. That is why I explicitly wrote that Wellspring of Life is worth it - in my opinion - if it helps you to get over that threshold (+3 PL for 1 additional for us per sec) and otherwise... not. For a multiclass character (like Bloodmage/Psion) it's accessible at level 19 out of 20. It comes very late in terms of character progression and still late enough in terms of game content. It's nice no doubt and often it is fun to use. I will absolutely use it myself with all sorts of buffs (see stuff like +50 deflection from the Magnificent Escape Cape) - I just wouldn't plan a build around it because the majority of time you play the game you will not be able to use it. I doesn't matter whether I am the only one who thinks godlikes are good or not (I don't think they are generally a good pick). If one can make a good argument against Wellspring of Life in the scope of this thread then that's fine - as it is fine if somebody makes a good argument in favor of it. In this case - as I said: it's worth it imo if it helps you to easily/conveniently get the +1 focus per second. In addition to that picking Nature Godlike is also worth it imo because of thematic reasons if you also want to use the Lance. That's my two points pro Nature Godlike. There are surely other points for another player race. If all those points are presented the OP can make an informed decision for himself.1 point

Agreed. What's happening is that you're bringing up stuff that's only tangentially relevant to what I wrote, if at all. As for the swindle: Russia's main intention with the energy trade was to increase the EU's dependency on Russia, and it succeeded very well, insofar as the EU was very reluctant to first confront Russia's excesses and then to cut its ties. Russia played this part superbly, much better than the EU did: Russia exploited the EU as much as it could, and it was quite a lot. The EU, for its part, didn't manage to move Russia one inch towards transparency / free trade / democratic institutions / what have you, even though the EU made a lot of self-deceptive noise about how this was precisely what it tried to do. An interesting parallel to the last point is all the manifold mutual-aid projects that Finland, for instance, tried to initiate with the Russians and in Russia. One of our former prime ministers was quite downhearted when he discussed this type of endeavour and its complete and utter failure: any kind of win-win thinking and real co-operation was inconceivable for the Russians because their sole idea was to at least cheat and also blatantly steal, if possible. This is why every single project had to be abandoned, no matter how promisingly it was initially put together: the Russians just wouldn't do their part, they couldn't fathom a form of co-operation where both parties weren't trying to out-cheat one another.1 point

Flurry poison rogue seems fun in D4, although if I let my weapons be out of date just a little I'm a bit screwed. Just addicted to that Flurry aspect and the other one where i leave stun grenades when evading. Still good fun. Sure wish they'd give us a mount earlier, Act 3 at least for me is a colossal pain traversing that forsaken desert.1 point

No, it isn't. It's an example of how Russia swindled the West very effectively for years, and the West was wilfully blind for an embarrassingly long time, giving Putin all sorts of ideas about what he could do with impunity. Russia's main export is not energy, by the way, it's corruption, and this one is still very much ongoing: Russian troll factories and such have been extremely effective, and the West has been extraordinarily foolish about this stuff.1 point

Nitpicking and somewhat off topic, but dang I must say that one of my pet peeves is the expression "X times less / lower". It just doesn't work, mathematically. Something can be twice as big or happen twice as often or be three times more, but with less and lower than, it doesn't work. So Ukraine's losses amounted to 13.33% of the Russians', methinks, the article is saying. (Yeah, apologies, obviously.)1 point

Good point. Yeah I thought about mentioning WOTEP, it is pretty good pre-lance and can distribute soul annihilation with the cone. One thing to be aware of though, making the sword forces a rest for some reason, so you can't get it in no-rest runs (which I always advocate) without a no-forced-rests mod. I'd install the mod but an alternative solution would be to skip the per-game buffs like dawnstars until you get WOTEP, then rest with chosen food and swing back to port maje to pick up the blessing. Xoti has to be alive though or no blessing for you (found this out in a recent iron run with a fury, waenglith was pretty mad and cursed me). https://www.nexusmods.com/pillarsofeternity2/mods/354 If you don't care about stacking as many buffs as possible don't worry about it, just be aware it forces a rest with no bonuses.1 point

As @Shai Hulud points out, it's a great combo with tremendous synergy. I'd recommend Whispers of the Endless paths prior to getting the lance; it works in similar manner but isn't quite as effective as the lance. Probably worth keeping in a weapon slot, however, in case your lance is ever dispelled.1 point

Agreed on the fight skips but I did out of spite and still won but the cost was heavy. I wanted to do an Ironman where I didn’t wiggle out of hard fights And I beat the game so I did it! Excellent advice though and I appreciate it. You helped a lot! Especially for my next run haha1 point

Don't forget about scrolls. Great Maelstrom scrolls are pretty easy to make (1 palm slat + 1 primal wind + 1 primal water). There's also storm of holy fire and meteor shower scrolls though the range and AOE isn't as large so they aren't as good for these specific battles but still very useful. I'd recommend you always have one character with maxed arcana. I think fangs and fur fight must be artificially much more difficult with galawain's challenge so my impression of it is probably not accurate. With that challenge they all have ridiculous buffs that provide a range of nasty effects like a bunch of inspirations, immunity to interrupts, invisibility, super high armor, immunity to all afflictions, etc. Normally galawain's challenge doesn't seem like it makes the game that much harder but in fights where it is nothing but beasts it is definitely felt. If you include all the optional SSS fights where you chase down artifacts then SSS is probably the hardest. I usually skip those unless I'm looking for a specific item because it's too much "run and fetch this" nonsense. Installed a mod by @Noqn that lets you do these fights without completing the fetch quests, and I'd definitely recommend it. Some of the fights are pretty tough, though I can't recall which ones are slayer. You can do all of them if you got all three artifacts from the island. https://www.nexusmods.com/pillarsofeternity2/mods/631 Most of the hardest FS fights are optional. Well, really they're nearly all optional since you can stealth but I mean like Sissak fight can be incredibly hard but avoidable if you give him the warden contract. Frightened Child fight is super hard but totally avoidable. Giant luminescent sporeling fight is pretty tough but also avoidable, and you can also make any remaining spores and infested librarians friendly. A friendly solution also makes one of the upper bowels fights avoidable, while the other two can be stealthed past. Also first oracle fight is avoidable if you do the stacks first and don't kill any librarians IIRC. I think the only truly unavoidable fight is last oracle fight and fyonlecg. If you get reanimated maura you can have a peaceful solution, though I'd recommend killing her for her belt.1 point

Why? [serious question] Why would raising pay be on any company's agenda? By definition that increases operation costs, and reduces profits——both of which are counter to the point of running a company. If they could produce the products without the people, they would; if the people produce the products for the agreed upon price, then the company agenda would almost certainly be to remain at that cost or to reduce that cost if possible. *BTW this is not a bad thing; it's the ideal.1 point

We've already seen nostalgia for 8-bit era & 16-bit era sprite graphics with plenty of "retro" games utilizing those graphical styles. While this was, and continues to be, overdone to a comical degree, I'm on board with the sentiment, especially 16-bit era sprites, I think that graphical style still looks great. Now, I'm starting to see 32-bit era 3D polygon graphics nostalgia, and I just don't get it. I played my fair share of PS1 and Saturn games and enjoyed quite a few of them, but, with a few exceptions, I think those early 3D polygon graphics games are ugly as sin. Those aliased as **** blocky polygons, the absolutely disgusting low res textures that would kind of... swim... I don't know how to describe it well, but the textures would kind of wobble and everything was so murky, ugh, just horrible looking. Sadder still, the 32-bit era had some gorgeous looking 2D sprite-based games, Castlevania: SotN being the most notable, but we got so few of them because the horrifically ugly 3D polygons were the new hotness. My point is that it blows my mind seeing developers today purposely making games mimicking that 32-bit 3D polygon style. It looks so bad, there aren't enough pairs of nostalgia goggles in the world to convince me otherwise.1 point

Record of Lodoss War-Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth-. I have realised that I should have watched the anime (or at least read the summary) first - the MC recognises NPCs and bosses, but does not elaborate on their background nor there is an in-game wiki (that I could find). The elemental system (Fire and Air spirits charge one another when the MC attacks foes, and when the charge at level 3, the MC regenerates HP and MP) is rather convenient, but it feels slightly OP. Then again, it also seems to be incorporated into the boss battles - when you get hit by a Fire/Wind attack and the corresponding spirit is active, you take no damage and regenerate MP. Thank you for the information. Could you elaborate if there is any branching in the story, alongside the sponsors (what do they affect)?1 point

Malkavian on first playthrough doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I feel like it's best for the second. They make every dialog weight a lot different than before. You pretty much play a different game if I can remember it correctly (it's been many years since I last played it). That said, ignore guns and go all-in on melee. Stealth is also useful.1 point

I couldn't decide between a Ventrue and a Malkavian, the two of which seemed to have the best non-combat stats/skills, ended up flipping a coin and it landed Malkavian. My character looks like an insane cheerleader of very questionable moral fiber, but she does have nice hair, so...was that bad? I see now that it might have had some effect on the player dialogue, which might explain why it seems all my options were all written by a madman?1 point

I agree 100%. I will be the first to admit, that yes lil fist was broken at first... But now with the counter reset, since all 4 summon bosses have; 1. Damage over time effects. (bleed, venom, poison.) which prevents you from stacking lil fist period for the duration. 2. Unblock-able attacks. Which just defeats the point of trying Lil fist since its inevitable you will get hit by a dumb roar attack and lose everything or get dots and be shut out the rest of the fights. Its just not worth it. The Mantis is the worst to fight since even if you do block hits you still get bleed on some attacks so your stacks are gone for awhile same with the wasp queen's poison bombs though you can just dodge those. Maybe a mutation to lower debuff duration would help so you can restack sooner?1 point
