  4. keep in mind is not that we got any kinda bias against newer autos. the harsh reality is our skillset is insufficient to be doing much more than change oil and windshield wipers on cars built in the last decade. our first autoshop lesson from high school were taking apart a briggs and stratton lawnmower engine and rebuilding. as you might imagine, there were no computer on the lawnmower engine. if am faced with an ignition issue, our reflex is to look to the distributor. etc. am so last century it is painful. HA! Good Fun!

  6. new orleans is one o' our favorite US cities to visit due in no small part to fact we enjoy good food and music. is the only location we look for turtle soup on every menu. ... in the US, august and september is historical the months hardest hit by hurricanes, but recent years has seen october in new orleans suffer more than its share o' cataclysmic weather events. october is technical hurricane season although late october is ordinarily swell kinda weather with nice temps and more overcast than storms, but am mentioning 'cause in our experience englishmen is frequent nonplussed by "extreme" US weather. HA! Good Fun!

  8. *chuckle* is no reason to change your mind. the post abyss drezen material is brief and clunky. however, having knowledge o' the pnp ap as well as having played the game multiple times and choosing different mythic paths, am seeing a practical explanation for the added curiously tacked on post abyss content. 'course practicality does not obviate the lack o' deftness displayed. HA! Good Fun!

  11. I have a sliding scale with lakes: On a boat/jet ski/tube? Hell yeah let the good times roll. Swimming in the lake? Eh, if I get hot or have to pee. Walking into a lake? Do not like! Mud and decayed vegetation between my toes gives me the heebie-jeebies.

  12. The day is actually turning out to be having a bit of an odd turn mood-wise. Some quirks with work, fires in the data center yesterday, and being told to work from home today then the expected IT issues. There is a gloom-ridden air to the weather, a few strange things going on with some friends leaving me in a bit of a wistful mood. Hospital appointment tomorrow with my father's consultant to go over what the scans just before Christmas showed. Trying to ponder on issues with potential mortgages and dad's house going forward, and the odds of buying my sister out or selling it together and getting a place of my own - then dealing with the stress of moving and filtering alllll the stuff that's built up over the years, plus my personal library.. Then the balance of if a mortgage would leave me with enough flush cash to actually enjoy life and travel depending on what I do. The friends I was just with out in California are planning to spend Halloween in New Orleans, and have invited me along to that with a "Hey, we have a small villa booked, but if you want to join we can upgrade to a bigger one." so I'm giving consideration to that. Even more long term planning...

  14. Well, this time all the rain and the oversaturated higher section of the yard decided to pool up ground water that overflowed over and down the higher wall/walkway behind the pool, so all this dirty water rivered into the pool. The pool is now all cloudy. Which doesn't bother me at all but hubby was worrying whether the pool filter would clean it out effectively, eventually. Not saying it's not nice to have one I suppose, but the extra work, care and cost (replacing pool filter parts or the auto-pool vacuum if you have one can get expensive...) is one reason why I've never cared about having one and it wouldn't be on my "must haves" when home buying. Hubby wants it, he takes care of it. If I was really into swimming for daily exercise (hubby isn't...), I'd rather build a room to house one of those small inifini pools where water pressure keeps you swimming in place or something to that effect. Or just go to the YMCA or something else cheap/similar. Edit: I know California needs the rain (when does it not, technically) but it would be nice if there were more breaks inbetween. Crazy weather this year all over.

  15. I see that there is an "intended level" field on world encounters - does the game use that when selecting a world encounter or does it just scale appropriately to the player level once an encounter is selected? If the game will only select level-appropriate encounters then I can maybe do something with that rather than by location as I had originally imagined. Alternatively, would it be possible to use the "prerequisites" field to do something like "player level is higher than X" before an encounter can trigger? Thanks for letting me know about duplicating encounters! If all I need to do is that and give it a new ID then it's the same as creating new ones, as far as I can tell! I've seen Apotheosis but I think for what I'm trying to do I'd cook up a simpler, more specific tool to do the work for me. When I said I hadn't tried any tools I meant more that I didn't download it to try it out (which I'll probably do at some point) but between screenshots, my previous modding experience (even with IE games) and the data format documentation I think I have a pretty good idea of what it does.

  16. Slugging my way through WC SO1. Some of these missions are just pain. Getting buried in fighters with my idiot wingman. Although, did have a good run in BiFrost 3 - just tried to primary the outpost while the fighters missed me or crashed into it. 102 kills and still just a Captain, bah, ****ing Confed.

  18. I helped a friend out a bit with his car build. It's fairly a fairly modern car, and he's ripped out all the old electronics and is putting some new stuff in. So... I messed with it a bit. I loaded up a new indicator sound effect for him... Yeah. I'm five. His own fault for using computerized indicators instead of proper relays

  20. Conversely, when you cast Confusion on enemies, it's like you're actively trying to waste a spell slot . Well to be fair, there is one enemy really worth Confusing, the giant grub-like miniboss near the end of SSS. Weakness to Intellect Affliction suddenly turns a somewhat useless spell into a super long duration AoE Charm. But you have to actively look for the few enemies weak to INT affliction in the game.

  21. yep after a while my rule of thumb became, don't use that tornado invocation in any fight with high-level kith wizards or fampyrs. they will use spell reflection, and even if the battlefield looks clear at the moment, the invocation bounces so slowly, they'll probably pop it up while it's in flight. i think Her Tears are area effects, technically, instead of projectiles. e.g. like rolling flame instead of necrotic lance. though this reminds me of the most ignominious party wipe i've ever done. empowered Her Tears, split-second before the invocation casting completed my skald got confused (don't remember, but i think it was one of those high level shadow-type creatures that can do that). of course my party was clustered next to each other, that was a ton of damage in an instant that instantly wiped out everyone (incl chanter from the smaller additional shards upon impact) and killed Vela, to boot. never had a fight go so quickly from "absolutely winning" to "instant loss" so quickly.

  22. In my experience it's spell reflection that does you in with this invocation. I once wiped out my entire party casting it at Nemnok with a SC Bellower with obscenely an obscenely high PL as well as lightning lashes from Sasha's and Deltro's helm. While it's fun to use, I never use it against spell casters any more. Her Revenge or Her Tears works much better against them as they don't seem to be reflected, at least in my experience. Never wiped out a party with them!

  23. @thelee you can even use Greater Maelstrom as a trap-like tool to pull enemies and start getting damaged by it while you already got the spell back and are casting the second one along with your wizard buddy casting salvo or meteor shower cast at an obscene power level. Then everything else

  24. with the right party, a non-summon focused SC chanter is still brutal thanks to that tier 9 invocation that regenerates a class resource. you need a spellcaster-heavy party, probably single-classed. imagine this opener: 1. from stealth, druid and wizard cast great maelstrom and minoletta's missile salvo. 2. combat begins, use chanter's starting phrases to immediately restore those casts to the druid and wizard. 3. re-cast greater maelstrom and minolett's missile salvo. 4. you've just finished most fights in the game. including some boss fights, if you empower those opening spell casts. you can also have chanter with weyc's robe and empower the invocation (even though it doesn't benefit the invocation) to accelerate the chanter's chants; or have sasha's enchanted to restore all phrases, so you can quickly do the tier 9 spellcasts a third time. then you'll probably be able to clear out all but the megabosses in the game. edit: you probably don't even need a party. the tier 9 spells are so good that even if you have only one druid, wizard, or priest (though priests should drop symbols) that it makes it worth picking up that invocation as a SC chanter. edit 2: i did this in my last run and it kicked butt

  25. Not something I have looked into much but near as I can tell it's possible to make a new encounter by duplicating an existing encounter changing the "ID": to a new GUID and then changing the desired parameters. Getting the new encounter to spawn is certainly something a scripts could do with LaunchRandomEnounter. Though there isn't really any way to pin it to specific place on the world map unfortunately. Closest would probably be a ScriptHook that only fires when the player is traversing the World Map which would trigger the encounter. But that Apotheosis by Noqn, while unofficial and still pretty new, is a really great tool for modding Deadfire as it automates a lot of things (like generating new GUIDs for new gamedata and exporting only the necessary bits of code for changes to existing gamedata) and simplifies the scripting process a lot. Also there is actual interface for editing .conversationbundles and .questbundles, which aren't really covered in the official documentation.

  26. Extremely powerful, yes, but has the unfortunate habit to bounce back on my party quite often. I don't know it it was due to Confusion (stronger against your party than vs foes) or Spell Reflection effects. IMHO Chanter is meh as Single Class, since a MC can do ~75% of what SC can do while doing some other stuff too (hence the BPM buff). But yeah Single Class Skald can cast 4 Tornadoes in a row by empowering the second with Sasha's full phrase back ability. If it is not bounced and you're not facing a Megaboss, you win.

  27. The tornado invocation with all the extra bounces is extremely powerful and is basically 80% of the reason you might want to single class a Skald. You're also able to pick all of the +damage/accuracy/penetration with empowered attacks perks which further makes it absolutely ridiculous, as long as the enemy doesn't have spell reflection you can end many fights with just a single invocation.

  28. Here's the most recent huge leak on the new OGL 1.1 document: https://gizmodo.com/dnd-wizards-of-the-coast-ogl-1-1-open-gaming-license-1849950634 https://knowyourmeme.com/news/dungeons-and-dragons-fans-furious-following-lengthy-leaks-of-ogl-11 It has caused a huge firestorm in gaming and D&D circles. And if you read through this article very carefully you'll see the new OGL is so very nakedly obviously targeting D&D competitors, and especially Paizo/Pathfinder, to try and shut them down. I fear this will end any possible future Pathfinder games, as well as any new content for Solasta.

  29. Your response on gender isn't skewed, men are the audience for the vast majority of gaming. A lot of the "women make up 50%" only makes sense when you add in casual/facebook/etc games. Poll that and you'll see a different response. ex: Fallout shelter/candycrush/etc you're going to see 40-60% female responses. What that means is, you make the games for your core audience. You stop listening to the people whining "but it *HAS* to be inclusive" or whatever buzzword is being pushed this week. Don't piss on them, don't mock them, and when there's someone who whines and cries over a limerick you can tell them "tough."

  30. Certainly propaganda, but the recent pictures of Prigozhin in the Salt Mines are pretty conclusive since they're west of Soledar. And since he's there they're likely to consider it to be relatively safe too. Even Zelensky implied it would fall imminently yesterday. lol at the tank in the background. On a more personal note, one of my best friends from primary school is missing there, though I would not have seen him for upwards of 30 years. Moral of the story: don't be best friends with me in primary school since my other best friend had a building fall on him in the Christchurch earthquake. On the positive side there has been almost no coverage here of it, which makes me think he may have been captured instead. Would mirror the case of the idiot influencers who went to Iran and photographed themselves outside a military base who had complete radio silence in the media. There is a Beeb article about it, but he's specifically described as British in that.
