If I ever get to travel to Greece prepare yourself for tastefully offensive Americans with a z. And congratulations on the new job! Speaking of working in the button mines of Kessel, my wife is getting a new title and raise but she's super concerned that the raise won't be enough to offset that she won't be getting overtime anymore. She's expecting a lot of mandatory overtime because her team has mostly bailed leaving her as probably the most senior person left. In man stripping news, I may be getting poached to go dance somewhere else for significantly less coin tips(ouch) and significantly more cash tips.6 points

I was going to put this in the funny things thread but since we're talking about teachers: I don't know how @Hurlshotand his counterparts do what they do. I couldn't do it. But I am seriously lacking in patience and compassion.4 points

We didn't have school staff that could hit us because that was our parents job. I kid, my mom worked at my school growing up so I was never safe. I kid again, mostly anyway, as my mom wasn't a big spanker and I was good at not getting in trouble. I also can't think of one situation in school that I think would have been enhanced by a teacher hitting me but maybe I'm just into the wrong stuff.2 points

Yeah, death of the author is the only way to stay sane, especially in this age of Twitter and JK Rowlings. I shouldn't have, but I burst out laughing at this. Thanks internet, thanks George Lucas...and thanks majestic, .2 points
-
No I heard it before. Thankfully I'm a subscriber to 'the author is dead' line of thinking and thus what they discussed making the film or even what they intended is really irrelevant to me.2 points

Not sure what's worse, Lucas suggesting that Indiana Jones had an "affair" with a 10/12-year-old or Spielberg immediately turning that into Marion having pictures and being a promiscuitive Lolita. Do you think they made this face when talking about it?2 points
-
Well, I hope you'd heard this before and it wasn't me that ruined it. Personally, I never really thought about it that much - the conversation just sounded like a writing device to indicate that something had occurred in the past that left Marion the big mad at Indiana, and that's really all it had to be as a way to quickly setup some character history as well as some motivations for how they were going to act towards each other for the rest of the film. Then the internet happened, and I was told that no, that's there because the creators of this film deliberately thought out that Indiana raped the poor girl when she was anywhere between 10 and 12 years of age. Thanks internet, thanks George Lucas - very cool.2 points

The thing that really confuses me is that Spielberg apparently said that "she had better be older than 22" (22 - 12 = 10, she would have been ten years old, George Lucas - quick maths!)...and then the very next thing he says is that "let's make it her fault by having her be promiscuous". What the hell, guys? Luckily, all that really materially exists of that idea in the film is that one solitary thread of conversation, especially because the actress, Karen Allen, was actually in her late 20s at the time of filming.2 points

Up to episode 19 of JoJo... that's some bizarre naming conventions The first super villain (the original "man in the pillar", nick named Santana) is disposed of, but 3 new super villains show up in Rome. Named after bands apparently Wham, AC/DC and (The) Cars. A new leader introduced on the side of the "good guys", Lisa Lisa (not a typo) and her maid/servant named after Suzi Quatro.... JoJo and Caesar are no match for the villains, who wipe the floor with them, being too unimportant to even kill. However, JoJo, being his charming self (i.e. constantly aggravating) manages to goad them into a challenge. He'll improve his skills so much in a month, that he'll offer them a good fight. Being proud (and vain) super villains, of course they can't resist such a challenge. To add pressure on JoJo, they place poison rings around his aorta and his windpipe, which will dissolve and kill him in 30 something days or so. The only way to safely dispose of them are an antidote for each of the two poisons, carried in the nose piercings of AC/DC and Wham. JoJo and Caesar does the training together, but of course are not exactly the super heroes their ancestors were, but still manage to dispatch AC/DC through some nice team work. As for what the trio of villains were after, some kind of perfect gem, which was a perfect red aja gem. No, I have no idea what it is. But the stone masks, which turns humans into vampires, are too weak to penetrate the skulls of the super villains, so they need the gem to boost the stone masks and turn them into some kind of legendary super vampires. The stone got stolen and sent by train in direction Switzerland, where the German army intercepted it before it reached it's destination. The German boss is none other than Von Stroheim (the German antagonist in Mexico), with an all new, mechanical body. That's about where I got to. The red aja gem when it was still in the hands of the good guys... A not so covert mission from Rome to St. Moritz, Switzerland...2 points

The round bit was storage. Most likely grain. The rest are walls from various phases, from likely 800 BC to around 1000 AD. The site was a pottery workshop in antiquity. I have 5,5 wells underneath my foundations (half a well is under the neighbouring building), and we even found a large slab of unused clay. We found traces of the old road, and the clay pipes of the antique water line still have water trickling along. Don't tell the archeologists I posted this, but this is back from 2009 when we had the dig:2 points

When I was in elementary school corporal punishment was a thing. They gave you a choice: three licks or a one day suspension. Buddy THAT is a no brainer. Paddling is over in less than a minute and you don't have to tell your parents about it, nor explain why you are not going to school the next day. It was NOT a deterrent.1 point

"If other countries have it worse, we should not complain about our country" is a pretty terrible line of reasoning. Reminds of a neighbour I once had, who said her son was a good kid because he had never mugged or killed anyone.1 point

This is a travesty. Daisy has been my main in any kart and sports game. She's way better than that floozie Peach and that hack fraud Rosalina. This killed any and all interest I had in the new Strikers. Nintendo is such a frustrating company. They can never just take a step forward, it's always accompanied with at least one step back. After 19 years they finally release a new 2D Metroid and it's phenomenal. They follow that up by embracing NFTs when most other companies are backing away due to backlash and by removing the best character from the new Strikers. On a more lighthearted note, they are adding 2 new difficulties to Metroid Dread, including an extra easy mode that the internet has dubbed David Jaffe Mode.1 point

Happens to me all the time. If I reread the books now I'd probably pick up on how awful they are, like how wizards have slavery but it's cool because the slaves are happy or the racial stereotypes for anyone who isn't a britbong. But at the time the worst thing is that they were boring and I wasn't interested in children's books in general.1 point

About 25 years ago my dad and stepmom went on a second honeymoon to Greece and after a delayed trip they got to Paros, hired a car and were looking for somewhere to eat lunch while sightseeing They saw a large house with a patio outside and tables setup and several cars in the parking area. They got out the car walked to the patio area and sat down, they also noticed another group of people sitting at another table and a man, the hotel\restaurant manager, saying to the other people " I have arranged transport " But the service seemed really bad and it took over 5 minutes before the manager came to their table and said " how can I help you "...the conversation went like this Parents : Can we get some coffee Manager :Sure, what coffee do you want? I have Turkish, American, Greek etc. Parents: Anything, we just want coffee He brought out coffee with this delicious homemade cakes and since it was clearly quiet he started chatting to them about where they from and what they doing in Greece. It turned out this managers dad knew SA because his dad was stuck in SA during WW2 and they ended up having a 40 minute friendly chat about life and travels But at the end of the chat the conversation went like this Manager: Oh, by the way this is not a restaurant. This is my private home Parents : What !!! But who were those other people sitting at that other table Manager : Those were friends who had been staying with us My parents nearly died of embarrassment for assuming this was a restaurant but they all had a great laugh about it and they left on very good terms with the home owner How is that for "white, male privlidege "1 point

They're all named after musicians or groups. Santana and Lisa Lisa are too, as is SHIIIIIISAAAAAAA's last name. JoJo's is an endless well of music references.1 point

Just a preview of New Kaineng, the capital of Cantha in the upcoming Guild Wars 2 expansion (Cantha is an Asian inspired part of the GW2 world, which featured in the original GW) Looks like the Canthans are going to give the Asura a run for the money when it comes to who is the most technologically advanced. I want my own Jade Bot!1 point

Yes. I also agree 100% that the level cap needs a SIGNIFICANT increase. I hit 36 before finishing Eridanos and haven't even been to Gorgan yet. Third run through and this has happened every time. Please raise the cap asap. If I have nothing to strive for than I lose interest and I LOVE THIS GAME!!!! More DLC TOO PLEASE!!!!!!1 point
