  1. For the geek of mind... An engineer, a physicist and a mathematicians have to build a fence arounda flock of sheep, using as little material as possible. The engineer forms the flock into a circular shape and constructs a fence around it. The physicist builds a fence with an infinite diameter and pulls it together until it fits around the flock. The mathematicians thinks for a while, then builds a fence around himself and defines himself as being outside.

  2. Version 1.5.2 uploaded (a bunch of small rework, slightly de-nerfed WoD, some effects can't be extended, various tweaks to Priest, Druid and Wiz spells) : Deadfire Balance Polishing Mod at Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com) It seems that Nexus Mod Description has intense editing problem. I had to go through BBC mode to actually change the text, and even then it was seriously lagging. Anyone experienced similar difficulty ? I'm finally satisfied with Entropy (and SC Druid as a consequence)

  3. Build for Fassina as a pure Wizard Conjurer. Given that lots of conjurer spells have long casting times and we have a penalty to recovery time in non-conjurer schools of magic due to specialization, we need to prioritize abilities/items that increase dexterity and/or action speed. Leveling: Chill Fog Necrotic Lance + Weapon and Shield Style / [respec later to Two-Handed Style if you want to focus on the staff or ranged weapon damage] Spirit Shield Noxious Burst + Deleterious Alacrity of Motion Bears Fortitude Wall of Fire + Combusting Wounds Infuse with Vital Essence Rapid Casting + Ninagauths Bitter Mooring Arcane Dampener / Pull of Eora Ninagauths Freezing Pillar + Llengraths Safeguard Quick Summoning Spirit of Decay + Secrets of the Rime Uncanny Luck Improved Critical Martial Caster + Combat Focus Tough Snake's Reflexes / Accurate Empower Prestige + Bulls Will / Potent Empower Penetrating Empower Spell Shaping / Lasting Empower Active Skills: 10 total combined points into Alchemy and the remaining into Arcana Passive Skills: All Metaphysics Proficiency: Dagger, Club, Flail, Quarterstaff etc Gear: Head: Mask of the Grotto Deep / Serpent Crown / Helm of the White Void / Heavens Cacophony / Blackened Plate Helm / Acina's Tricorn Neck: Strand of Favor / Charm of Bones Armor: Spider Silk Robe with Poison Master / High Harbinger's Robe Ring 1: Kuaru’s Prize Ring 2: Ring of the Marksman / Ring of Overseeing / Something with perception bonus or whatever you like Feet: Boots of Stone / Footprints of Ahu Taka / Pathfinder's Boots Waist: Upright Captain’s Belt Hands: Firethrower’s Gloves / Apothecary’s Gloves Cape: Shroud of the Phantasm Weapons: Griffin’s Blade with Hound’s Courage + Outworn Buckler Chromoprismatic Quarterstaff with Elemental Induction Blightheart How to play: Set the A.I. to cast Deleterious Alacrity of Motion immediately, Infuse With Vital Essence plus any quick buffs you like then cast Caedebald's Blackbow and Finish with a Phantom. Infuse with Vital Essence will trigger Mystical Celerity from the Shroud of the Phantasm and the phantom will copy the Blackbow and you will end up with two ranged characters. Because the AI of the phantom is underwhelming is better to cast Essential Phantom because this one will not try to cast useless spells. Note: If you make Fassina as a Loremaster the same design principle still applies but you will have access to other summons, don't know about Sorcerer though.

  5. Since you can get multiples beams actived in same time and because Antipathetic Field doesnt damage the target, an enemy afflicted by Death of the 1,000 cuts caught in the path between you and the target take already +100sec duration/ beam (and associed damages), but with 100 Screaming Souls it is indecent!

  6. And another one from the mid 90's... yes, I actually kept some of the old jokes that circulated around in computer science circles on the internet from 1992-1997 These are two generic jokes: (1) A person belonging to an ethnic group whose members are commonly considered to have certain stereotypical mannerisms met another person belonging to a different ethnic group with a different set of imputed stereotypical mannerisms. The first person acted in a manner consistent with the stereotypes associated with his ethnic group, and proceeded to make a remark which might be considered to establish conclusively his membership in that group, whereupon his companion proceeded to make a remark with a double meaning, the first meaning of which could be interpreted to indicate his agreement with his companion, but the other meaning of which serves to corroborate his membership in his particular ethnic group. The first person took offense at his remark, and reacted in a stereotypical way! (2) Q: How many people belonging to a certain ethnic group does it take to perform a particular menial activity? A: A finite positive integer. One to perform the activity, and the rest to behave in a manner stereotypical of their ethnic group!

  7. Another Thanksgiving has come and gone we got through it without much issue. My family from out of town cancelled the day they were supposed to arrive so it was just the three of us and a couple of friends. The only thing even remotely political that came up was Dave Chappelle and I was able to change the topic pretty easily.

  8. i hope this game is more like a fantasy open world rpg with a bit of realism too ... when it comes to sword fight , please dont use too much fantasy blurs in the sword, or lights that arent real, use it for magic weapons, ok! when you fire a bow, please dont put any lights or fantasy things to the image.... put something realistic... immersive. like skyrim! when the weapons are not enchanted yet!! we want to feel inside the game! the sound, the block system, physics and everything else! the first person thing is amazing! please pay attention to the way the player moves, the way it shakes, the sprint, crouch, throw yourself to the ground and attack... this freedom is welcome!

  9. am gonna concede how after booby trap and galaxy's child, taking geordi serious became a bit more difficult. possibly redeemed self by season seven, but seeing as is going on 30 years since those embarrassing episodes and we still recall 'em first when we think o' geordi, is not a good sign. HA! Good Fun!
    1 point
  10. Geordi is the guy who is always friend-zoned, had a holodeck creation - that he wanted the computer to make "more human acting" - help him troubleshoot instead of utilizing his actual human team, and generally treated by the writers as a sometimes engine-tech genius but an interpersonal relationship dufus (not including Data). It's not surprising that most of his episodes were not very good.

  11. I was actually thinking about that a couple days ago. Relationship shenanigans are (usually) much more fun than hanging out on some old game forum. Hope it's all going swimmingly for him.

  12. Got you. I recently discovered that several Druid spells that get countered by "antidote" (and thus are poison/disease spells one would presume) won't profit from poison power levels anymore - and so I assumed it also wouldn't work for Wizard poison spells anymore. I just checked ingame again and indeed the two Wizard spells Noxious Burst and Malignant Cloud do still profit from the Poison PL of both items. They have "poison" displayed in the description. I then went again to the druid spells and the only spell that still profits from poison PLs is Venombloom. It hasn't the keyowrd poison in the description. There's the antidote keyword and then there's the poison keyword and some druid spells lack the poison keyword while they still get countered by antidote effects and immunity (vessels etc.). Bit messy... Maybe something to fix with the Community Patch @MaxQuest? Maybe the workings are correct (disease spells could get countered by antidote but wouldn't profit from poison) - but maybe then an improved descripion or descriptive keywords (poison & disease maybe) would be useful? It seems that "poison" is considered a wizard-only keyword so they left it out of the druid tree. But imo that's confusing as heck. Right, I misremembered Urgent Harvest's workings, my bad. Chromoprismatic Quarterstaff is nice of course. True. Only the description of the spell mentions it iirc - but it isn't described in the weapon's description I think. Yeah, it's pretty cool - also that this means that the Helm of the White Void is so useful then. But something like Acina's Tricorn would also work I guess (sometimes looks a bit funky though, especially with robes). Of course the Mask of the Grotto Deep is also a cool fashion piece sort of (and the INT is also nice). Well you proved me wrong above so I don't know about that, hehe. --- Had I known about the combo of Helm of the White Void + Caedebald's Blackbow I would have played Fassina differently in my last run with her I believe.

  15. Yes, I have read that one a bit, I just need to fully understand how bonuses work excellent resource, btw @thelee Thanks

  16. Mask of Grotto Deep and Spider Silk Robes were indeed because of the poison levels (the INT bonus is also nice), there are 2 poison spells that we are using so why not pump them. High Harbinger Robes combos nicely with Deleterious Alacrity of Motion but i didn't use it because of the extra poison levels but is a nice idea. Xoti's Sickle with Urgent Harvest only improves the attack speed of the weapon also i don't want to invest in religion because of the Chromoprismatic Quarterstaff. Blightheart is a nice alternative but i prefer the PL and modal from the staff. There is so much friendly fire that can be used to trigger Elemental Induction from the staff and it works with spells. I didn't remember the Ring of the Marksman, i will add it to the list of equipment. I didn't know that the bow causes Terrified there's no description of that in the label but you are correct as always.

  18. The things I wasted the most time on: Subtracting that from the 45 to 50 hours I needed for the first time to complete the game I'm at the mid 30 range - and that's with looking almost everywhere. 70 for a completionist run seems really high, unless that means grinding out every achievement, which I really needed the 90 hours for. It would probably have gone quicker with just playing a third NG+ game to reap the increased XP rewards from enemies, but I really did not want to... restart the game again. However that was just my experience, and everyone else I know who played the game except you did not complete it. But yeah, if the average main story + extras completion time is really 43 hours, then that's definitely too long for what the game offers. I get that the game would be super frustrating if attack variety matters for the player. Most bosses come down to parry, parry, parry, sidestep, slash, sprinkled with a combat art or two in between, or some firecrackers. There's not even any variety in how to defend against enemy attacks. There's the right way, and that's it. It never bothered me, but there are points in the game where style was clearly chosen over substance.

  19. They do stack. If you know how: make yourself a big coffee and read this: If you're suddenly not interested in the details anymore (who could blame you? ;)) you can see the results of the bonuses when you right-klick on your weapon during combat (over the portraits, down left with the standard hud config). A popup will display attack and recovery time (among other info). If you hover over those numbers there will be a list in a tooltip window with the effects that currently influence those stats (in percentages):

  20. I guess in a party Takedown Combo + Call to Slumber + Disintegrate would be a fun combo against tough foes. Or even Takedown Combo, Call to Slumber and Concelhaut's Corrosive Skin.
    1 point
  21. Yes, Blackbow + Phantom is very nice to have and fun, too. May I ask why you are using the Mask of the Grotto Deep and the Spider Silk Robes? Do they synergize particularly well with something you are using (like poisons)? When prioritizing DEX/Action speed items - wouldn't an armor like High Harbinger's Robes for example be the better choice? And instead of Griffin's Blade maybe Xoti's Sickle or so? What do you think about Blightheart? It would give a 10% corrosive lash to all your direct dmg spells - and the healing effect can be prolonged with Wall of Draining (along with Healing from Hands of Light gloves for example). What's your opinion about Ring of the Marksman when using the Blackbow? It would give you +2 PEN for the bow in combination with Spirit of Decay - and the Phantom +1 PEN. The added accuracy would also be nice to have on yourself and the phantom. For that reason I also use the Helm of the White Void: it would grant you and the phantom +10 ACC with shots of the Blackbow because it comes with terrify and thus even the initial attack roll always gets the +10 ACC. And course +10 ACC for all spells that apply afflictions (like Chillfog etc.).

  22. Samurai Champloo 23 Oh that's a baseball. Much better than the last episode, even if it is just as crazy. The next episodes are a three parter, so that will be fun.

  25. Spent the last couple days at the new house doing various stuff. "This weird plastic jet whirlpool tub in hallway bathroom is too high walled and I can barely step over into it without jumping, it has got to go" "Closet rods are like 7 feet high, I can't reach them at all - gotta knock out/remove all this weird homemade closet organizer crap" "I can't reach this shower head holder (to use it hand-held)." "This microwave over the range-top is too high I can't reach/use, how useless (to me)." Apparently, most people don't do their houses for short people. ...if standing straight and I stretch arms fully above my head, tips of my fingers might reach six foot, two inches. On tippy toes. My good/effective height reach is a lot less than that, especially if you have to lean. Pffft. Tall people.

  26. Wait, does that mean you stopped thinking it's great sometime after the first 10 hours? There's one part of the game that I really HATRED'ed, but otherwise it was pretty good. Can't say I cared much for the High Monk nerf, but it was a bit overpowered...

  28. I think that if you have to ask "Is this the work of an enemy Stand?" then the answer is yes. And probably yes if you're not asking the question. After Forever's boat ride, the logical thing to do would be to ora ora ora first and ask questions later. Spoiler talk Well you've got nine episodes left. They're one hell of a ride, but I strongly recommend you watch the last four all at once.

  33. For non-stacking AR malus, you have plenty of solutions. The easiest are either various PER affliction (-1 AR from Flanked), Crack the Shield (for basically infinite debuff with the upgrade) or Sundering Blows (- 4AR, vs Deflection and can be AoEiszed with a rod/mortar/WotEP). I don't like Mace modal because it is so easy to get an equivalent effect and have it suppressed. Stacking AR debuff are something much rarer. Blackened Plate mentionned by @thelee is the most convenient (-1 AR). But when you need to stack AR debuff, another -2 AR is priceless. How to get reliable crit is an issue of course, but pairing Beza's and Aldris' for dual Crit Sabres build feel nice (of course, this is not a pure DPS setup, more a support/self-heal one - Might be considered on a Wayfarer/Berzeker for example ).
    1 point
  34. Hm... you can do -1 AR with any mace on graze. Not stackable maybe, but doing something on graze is often more appealing than doing something better on crit - to me at least.

  35. If you want to continue with Tank wizard then Battlemage with Illusionist/Unbroken as the subclasses is fun. The idea is to use the 2 Illusion wizard spells that Terrify (Ryngrim) while engaging a bunch of enemies. The terrify causes them to break engagement and give you free disengagement attacks (Unbroken improves disengagement attacks).

  36. Picked up Sekiro on Steam sale. Absolutely loving it so far. I wasn't sure how it will feel to play, looking at the gameplay videos, but like Dark Souls it plays much smoother then it looks. Love the setting. I am a sucker for stuff like this.

  37. I sacrificed Vela and gave the potion to Simoc ,however after importing my save to Deadfire she still appeared on the beach.I checked my save game and the variables are set to: n_Simoc_State = 6 n_Vela_State = 1 b_Have_Baby = 1 According to the wiki the correct variables should be: n_Simoc_State = 6 n_Vela_State = 0 b_Have_Baby = 0 The bug technically only affects Deadfire and the ending slide in PoE1 is correct but it is seems the game sets the wrong variables.I also noticed serveral other errors. When killing Rehstin during "A Servant of Death" and convincing Erona to kill herself the variables should be (according to the wiki) : n_Rehstin_State = 1 b_Archdruid_Rehstin_Dead = 1 n_Erona_State = 0 b_Erona_Suicide = 1 In my endgame save they are: n_Rehstin_State = 0 b_Archdruid_Rehstin_Dead = 1 n_Erona_State = 9 b_Erona_Suicide = 1 It seems that some of the still existing import bugs in Deadfire are actually caused by PoE 1 not setting the variables correctly.

  38. I agree with the sentiment of this. Really make the player feel it when a sword get a solid strike on a shield, but don't make it take away from the flow of combat. Make different sounds for when an arrow hits different materials(Plate armor, mail armor, flesh and fabric) and when things hit at different angles. Sounds contribute to game feel just as much as impacts and the velocity of weapon swings. Make those sounds and impacts go both ways(except maybe make us feel it a little more as the badass player character). You can have fun with these concept lore wise too. Different cultures are going to have different weapons, armors, spells, auras, city designs thus they might need their own sounds. When we think phyiscs there are certain rules that determine things like thermodynamics etc. So how does sound work different with regard to spells and cultures? Fire, ice, wind, necromancy, cipher mind juju might be consistent elements but how a culture summons those elements will be drastically different. Just like how armor isn't the same spells shouldn't be conjured the same way either. I think that's what will make this cooler then skyrim, the lore is baked into the game, and the game feel(things mentioned and not mentioned above) should intuitively follow that. Level design is also something that'll contribute to the success of this title. Going from small to medium to large scale is another thing that needs to be taken into account. Does a taller more vertical map lend itself more to the players abilities or does a more compact but gauntlet-esk environment work? Can you fit in both? I don't know what will come first, skill development or level design, but the two should be built with each other in mind. This is where experimentation will come into play big time because you want the feel of the combat to match the layout of the level but still capture that specific cultures built spaces. I think good level design often goes overlooked, but has a huge impact on funness. Wish i had more to say about this!
