  1. that sounds reminiscent o' what happened to characters multiple times in bg and bg2. unfortunately... Around 1409 DR, the merchant Orburt Lewel ordered the construction of a nine-foot (2.7-meter) tall statue in the Wide in honor of Minsc, who had saved Lewel's life. The statue, known as the Beloved Ranger, depicted Minsc cupping Boo in his hands. It was a popular landmark and meeting point in the busy commercial district.[10][11][12] In 1479 DR, a group of teenagers vandalized the Beloved Ranger statue, breaking off its hands and Boo. The vandals were later apprehended and the statue was fixed.[11] Sometime in the 1480s DR, Minsc mysteriously returned. The Beloved Ranger was accidentally struck by a wild magic surge caused by the wild mage Delina, as a result of an attempt to cast a spell at an attacking gargoyle. The surge breathed life into the statue and caused it to transform into Minsc and Boo. The pair joined up with the thieves Krydle and Shandie to battle the Cult of the Dragon. Coran, now a member of the Parliament of Peers, was the only person who recognized Minsc as anyone but someone who was dressed like the statue.[1] https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Minsc don't ask us why we bothered to check. stone-to-flesh were perhaps too familiar and too plausible for the forgotten realms? dunno. regardless, a wild magic surge turned a mundane statue o minsc and boo into living minsc and boo... 'cause. HA! Good Fun!

  3. Ideally none of those, because they are very binary, and therefore such path is picked once, and mentaining it is dull, with clear cut choices (see all Bioware games). My fav. RPG roleplaywise are once when choosing a path isn't as simple - you create base goals and ideals by which your character lives, and try to go through the game and examine decisions by those ideals - sometimes you will do good, sometime you will do bad. I am yet to see a straight up "bad" path done well. Being cruel, for cruelty sake never made much sense, especially if being good is just as beneficial. Not many games a brave enough to "punish" player for being nice. Pyschopath was never appealing to me, as combat generally isn't the most appealing thing about RPGs - therefore willingly engaging with combat, and locking myself out of the good part of the game isn't my idea of fun. So I hope that marketing is just easy to consume representation of something more nuanced and interesting.

  5. Outrage sells. It's the reason sensationalism exists, has existed, and will continue to exist in the media. The reason facebook, youtube and others often suggests content to you that provokes or angers you isn't some vast conspiracy, they use algorithms to suggest content to you that is the most likely to keep you engaged. It doesn't matter if you are engaged in a positive or a negative way, whether you are happy, amused, sad, or angry; the only thing that matters to them is that you generate clicks, since that's what advertisers are after. Unfortunately, the reality is that things that anger people, on average, tend to engage them more than things that are heartwarming. It sucks, but the nature of most people is to react more strongly toward negative things than positive. There are people out there that are exceptions to this rule, and God bless them, but for the rest of us, we have to constantly work on ignoring the negative and embracing the positive. The struggle is real.

  6. The new alien stuff is just all complete garbage. I tried to like it at least in parts, but if I'm honest to myself, then it's all really just.... garbage we really wouldn't have needed.

  7. I understand what you mean, but It doesn't really matter if you get access to a spell via trinket or via level up - as long as you are able to cast it. Also, if you are only getting 1 per PL via trinket there usually is something else on that power level that fits and you can pick at level up - because the auto-spell you get at PL will not fit most likely. Even if you'd give players all the "good" spells via a trinket (the ones which they would normally pick at level up because they are best) this doesn't automatically lead to them picking prayer spells (except if there's nothing else to pick I guess). Most people will still go is on the most useful spells - just in case. Then also it makes little sense to provide a trinket that is not consistent with its theme. Like giving a PL bonus to decay spells but adding only non-decay spells with it. We don't want to mod subclasses into the game but trinkets which broaden the active spell portfolio of a priest (and druid). Because that's the need. Subclasses are plenty. We can do that via spells that get added by trinkets that work as Grimoires (light). At the same time we want to make those trinkets interesting and allow (even encourage) some different build directions. The decay druid was just an example. But this is only the secondary effect. The main objective is to remove the level-up "railroading". Those trinkets I posted are only suggestions which the community can vote on. This means I will also present some weird or special variants. And also very plain ones. It's brainstorming basically, but feedback on the trinkets, on their mechanics and community members' own ideas are highly appreciated. What I won't do is throw over the whole concept and start anew with something different like subclasses. The game doesn't need more subclasses. I mean it's nice to have more, but it's not really a pressing concern. Additional trinkets for other non-caster classes that might feel like an equippable different subclass mechanic is just an idea for the future and not set in stone. Not to be confused with priest trinkets.

  8. I made a voyage into the frozen north to hunt for star metal ore. I never did find any, but I did come across the Frost Temple: I figured while I'm here, I might as well have a look inside. On a side note, you wouldn't think that Lemurian Royal Garb would provide cold resistance by looking at it, what with all the exposed skin, yet it does. I'm assuming the logic behind that is the same as a chain bikini protecting against physical attacks. The frost giants in and around the temple are some of the easiest high level enemies I have ever encountered. Outside of mountain goats, they may be the easiest enemy located in the entire cold region of the game. 95% of the damage you see thet I've taken in the screenshot above was from cold exposure, not physical damage from the giants. Hrugnir, the Frost Giant King: Much like the common frost giants, Hrugnir is extremely easy to fight, provided you are wearing armor that allows you to dodge roll (light or medium). I would go so far as to say that he's the easiest boss I've fought, even easier than the giant crocodile in the cave with all the brimstone. I mean, I'm sure he hits really really hard, especially with his impressive looking charge attack, but that doesn't matter if he never hits you. I didn't even bother cheesing him with snake arrows, and there's plenty of room to kite him for days in his throne room if you want to take that approach. Cutting him down with my axe was very easy. I wound up coming back to the Frost Temple later on another expedition hunting for star metal ore (successful this time!), but also because I wanted to use the Frost Temple Smithy located there now that I knew what I needed to forge items there: I made this Black Ice Broadsword and a Black Ice Pick. These black ice weapons and tools can only be forged at this smithy, so if you plan on going to the Frost Temple, do yourself a favor and bring along a hardened steel sword and a hardened steel pick (you will also need black ice, but there's tons of the stuff to mine inside the temple). The black ice broadsword pictured above might not be the prettiest sword ever made, but it does massive amounts of damage. You won't ever need to return to the smithy once you forge everything you need, you can repair black ice weapons and tools with black ice and hardened steel yourself on the go.

  12. As Gfted1 commented: I feel I haven't been reaching my desired levels of insufferability since the boards update, and clearly this is the cause. I can barely tell when someone wants to emphasize something (but not too much)! In addition, I'm not sure if/how importing quotes from other threads is supposed to work anymore. Used to be that the format went: [quote name='user' date='date' post='post#']text[/quote] And that would be interpreted into the appropriate quote box with the corresponding link to the original post. Now it just creates a plain quote box without any info. So another vote for BBCode mode.
