Optimism is a path to constant disappointment. To minimise unavoidable letdown once the 8th of May is upon us, let us lower our expectations ahead of time by discussing all the possible ways in which Deadfire shall fail.

 

PERFORMANCE! You would think that a game with a 2d background and an isometric view would run on a potato. No, Sir! While the basic graphical nature of the game comes with a limited option screen, it doesn’t mean that it won’t require an expensive machine to run. Beta suffers from some serious performance issues. New weather effects seriously tank the frame rate and, strangely enough, so do menues. Inventory screen seems to be the new Crysis. Sure, they say that will be fixed. They say that the optimisation is the last thing to do. But I know better. I have heard all of that before. <But seriously, why is inventory screen so bloody taxing. It makes managing equipment a real pain.>

Playing Deadfire is the surest path to damnation in the clutches of Satan. They even have a game mode named after it. Play the game and the next thing you know you will be smoking marijuana cigarettes and listening to loud heavy metal music.

I hope you all realise that there's only going to be one viable class to beat the game.  Starting with any other class will lead to an effective soft-lock making you unable to beat the dragon guarding the entrance to Act 3.

This will of course be balanced in the 8th patch, when all classes are retconned to do exactly the same DPS, regardless of equipment.  :aiee:

I expect traps to be retooled before launch.  Any triggered trap, where you fail a save, no long causes injuries.  It's just instant perma death for the character instead, as this is more realistic.

I'll choose to post an actual concern of mine: loading times. I don't know how PoE managed to have such long loading times (even for tiny indoor areas) when it's not exactly a graphical powerhouse.

The best part about this approach is that they can make traps much more consistent than in the original game. Now, if you set a trap and an enemy triggers it, it's instant perma death for the character that set it.

What I am  really really concerned about is that the Firearms have no safety switch. What if I am walking around Eora and my Blunderbuss accidentally goes off and blows my foot off or even worse blows my balls off!

 

We need a safety switch mechanism on the the firearms in this game!!

 

And can just anyone buy a firearm? i think procedures should be put in place so only those aged 21 and above can purchase them. Some kind of official licencing system.

This will be all the bad things about KOTOR2 with none of the good things. There will be tons of bugs and all the content will be cut. Legends will be told of the greatest disaster in all of history. The Spanish will be thankful they only had their Armada be destroyed instead of suffering the fate of Obsidian in Deadfire 2.

The reality of Deadfire:

 

  1. The Naga smell like elderberries
  2. Slow spells take 27 seconds to cast.
  3. Monsters give no XP, quests only give enough to level to half of the level cap
  4. After resting 11 times the games music changes to Aint no rest for the wicked by Cage the Elephant on a constant loop
  5. Eder is now gay.
  6. Loot boxes every where
  7. Every load screen takes 8 minutes to load.
  8. You will be forced to make  a Dwarf character at some point in time.
  9. Might, Resolve, Strength, Vigor, Brawn Moxie, and a certain je ne sais quoi will be added as Attributes

This will be Obsidian's first bug-less on-time game. It will be marketed correctly at launch and sell more than Witcher 3, mark my words! Additionally, Obsidian may give each backer an in-game waifu to make up for their delay. This was brought upon by the romance threads, Obsidian hears our cries... Although they think it's a but middle school, they want to make fans happy.

 

What? Not sold on Deadfire yet? Let me speak from the heart friends. Deadfire has none subliminal messages hidden in the game and politics has been removed completely because if what's going on in the world today. The point of the game is to bring gamers together, not separate them so the story change: Politics has been banned by Kyros.

 

Lastly, to honor the Eastern Puma (which has officially been filed for extinction), pretty sure Obsidian will l integrate Mountain Lions or a creature resembling such into Deadfire.

 

Now, I've learned so much on this forum these last couple weeks, and now respect worms who burrow under the ground from hungry birds. Anxious to hear everyone's adventures and experiences when the game launches on Christmas day.

I don't have access to the beta, but from what I've seen on YouTube and posts like yours, it seems it would be really difficult to maintain a high performance on a low-end rig. Suffice to say, I don't believe these promises also. On a side note: by chance I had to replace my old computer with a new one, so I hope there will be no major problems with performance. I didn't do it just for the sake of a game, I swear! OK, so maybe a little, is that a crime?

EA recognises the tremendous succes of Deadfire and buys Obsidian. Josh is forced to work as a design and narrative lead on Fifa 2019, only to be denied his wish to make it turn based. Cain and Boyarsky makes a retraction of their statement that their new game won't have loot boxes, and Fergus retires to the Cayman Islands.

Rumor has it those lootboxes will be filled with the remaining experience in allotments between 1 and 9999 as determined by a new RNG algorithm which Obsidian has secretly developed in partnership with EA and Activision.
