  1. I usually go with a pure Ranger in any game that has them available. Though I'm not fond of them being mostly a ranged class in PoE.
  2. *shrug* One alternative was to just keep 6 party members and have the extra abilities. I'm not convinced that it was such a huge problem. The development team decided that it was a problem, so people cling to that to support the argument. But there have certainly been examples of players disagreeing with other things implemented in the game, so they can certainly be wrong on this issue too. Another alternative was to implement a programmable automated AI system similar to the gambit system of FFXII. Let players program the "boring" stuff to be done autmatically, and leave the "fun" stuff for manual control. Or another alternative: just remove the "boring" stuff from combat. Either get rid of it altogether, or have equipment already carry the "boring" stuff. I think there were clearly other paths to explore, and this is just stuff that I'm typing after having dinner and before I go wash the dishes. Regardless, I don't believe that the developers took the cheap way out, they just didn't like how the game played with 6 party members and the rest is history.
  3. For me, the one big change for PoE:D that I dislike is the reduction of party size. I like having a dedicated healer in my party, so I always have a Cleric of sorts in it. My PC is usually a melee class, and I really like Pallegina, Aloth and Eder, so they'll all be staples in my party. I also want all of them to use the single classes that they had in PoE1. That leaves a spot for the healer and no room to play with anyone else. It just changes the party dynamics that I'm accustomed too. But I'll live.
  4. It can be annoying when the game doesn't offer a portrait that you like, but I wouldn't like them to be gone.
  5. I'll choose to post an actual concern of mine: loading times. I don't know how PoE managed to have such long loading times (even for tiny indoor areas) when it's not exactly a graphical powerhouse.
  6. I think that the argument that games "are simplified for console" is simply not true. It's kind of a veiled insult that implies that people who play on consoles only like simple games. The truth is that games get simplified or streamlined to appeal to more people. Hell, it's very common to see people on gaming boards complaining that games are too simple on both PC and console games. Of course, shiny graphics really does sell console games, but that is true for PC too. Additionally, I don't think that the lower console sales of D:OS and PoE are solid proof that these kinds of games can't do well on consoles. In both cases the console port was released over a year after the PC release. Basically, you can't compare the sales of a fresh game to a one-year old game (2 years for PoE). There wasn't much of a promotional campaign for PoE either, I only found out it was releasing on the PS4 because I saw an online review of it on eurogamer. Lastly, although Paradox did a good enough job with PoE, the UI needs further work to really be comfortable to play with a controller. I still maintain that offering the PC UI as an option would be the best choice for the console release, but barring that, they need to find a way to: - make it easier to select multiple PCs. They need to allow the "targeting reticule (?)" to function more like a mouse. If I'm not mistaken in the PS4 version they allowed you to select targets and locations with it, but they should add a drag function to let us also select areas with it. - targeting objects/containers/doors needs to be greatly improved. I could have my analogue stick point to an object near me but the character would actually target an object that sometimes would be in the opposite direction. - inventory navigation needs to be greatly improved to. Messing with your grimoire, selecting chants, shops, etc, felt clunky. I think these really need to be rebuilt from the ground up.
  7. Hi, first time poster here. I'm a huge fan of the PC Baldur's Gate games. Loved the gameplay and it introduced me to the Forgotten Realms setting. But after PT, IWD and IWD2 were released I was disappointed that the genre seemed to disappear. I played the beta of Sword Coast Legends, but the game really disappointed me. I had heard of PoE before, but between the disappointment of SCL and my weak laptop, I didn't even try it. Still, I kept hearing good things about the game. Then last summer the game was released for the PS4 and I bought it to try it out. Long story short: I loved the game. It wasn't exactly like BG, but it was close enough and the differences made it stand out. Can't say that everything in the game was perfect (companion storylines seemed less developed than I hoped for), but it has kept me lurking on these forums looking forward to the sequel. Though the UI was functional for the PS4 version, I have to say that I really hate how so many companies use radial menus. They have never felt right to me. Moreover, I could never figure out a way to select groups of my PCs. I could only select all at once, or one at a time, which made combat very cumbersome at times. I know that Obsidian is not responsible for the console ports, and I have no idea if they will even have any contact with the company doing the port, but there are two things that would greatly improve the console versions: 1. Dramatically decrease the loading times. I have no idea how bad loading times were on the PC version, but they were a plague in the PS4 version. At later points in the game it really killed my enjoyment. Resting at Brighthollow involved going through 4 long loading screens to get to my room and back outside. I don't really see a reason for loading times to be so ridiculously bad. 2. Offer the PC UI as an option on the console versions. Obviously, Red Cerberus has to focus on making a good controller UI, but it would be great if they kept the PC UI in the game as an option. Some of us do have a mouse and keyboard to use with their PS4, and I really think that a mouse is the best way to control characters in a game like this.
