As my radio just told me, the german economy expirienced an unexpected high groth. One of the main reasons for this is that the refugees are now starting to get settled here, boosting the economy. Rejoice everyone, they're good people.

Anyway, I hope his takes away some of the arguments agaisnt refugees. Their overall helpfulness for Germany is now a fact.

You're aware ofcourse that their arguements are'nt based on 'facts', right? It's going to make no difference.

Germany is making more money? The immigrants are stealing German jobs ofcourse. :/

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

This pretty much explain why UK don't like Eastern Europeans, but have no problem with other migrants :)

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Lets take it to its logical conclusion and import everyone from everywhere, since the economy will then grow even more. People being cultural vessels with different moral and spiritual needs than the host population can be ignored because it has never ever caused any trouble anywhere.

Government spending can boost the economy in the short term, but it's not healthy in the long term.

It's because our infrastructure is supposedly falling apart, but also to create jobs. Infrastructure spending can boost future economy if it's handled properly, but it rarely is. Overall I'm skeptical, I don't see how we can afford another increase in spending unless revenues are enhanced, and it seems to me that states and localities should be responsible for their own infrastructure, not the feds.

With the debt we are saddled with from our last 2 presidents, spending would not be the best plan of action. Cutting programs and limiting the people who can use said programs I think be the best course of action.

The refugees are coming to take away our jobs and to leech money off our social security system. I like to call this the Schrödinger's Refugee, because they can apparently get free kebabs from the government all the while they're actively working and thereby financing social security.

But what do you expect from people like this:

While I can respect you Euro's iron grip on "country <x> traditions", Im glad the US isnt saddled with that.

It kinda is, at least in the way Meshugger has been framing it in the last umpteen threads. He's not so much referring to quaint little local "traditions" like, say, tomatina, as to stuff like separation of Church and state, respect for dissenting opinions and individual freedoms, and at least a general semblance of formal democracy... at least in juxtaposition to Saudi Arabia or Iran. Those things are supposed to be incompatible with the mindset/culture of refugees.

The more radical version of the resolution of the culture clash scenario foresees a nondescript Brave New World-esque dystopia with no values other than consumerism, and no discernible races as everyone will be brown untermenschen created through miscegenation, all under the perpetual rule of Jews by means of supranational structures like the UN or EU, as per Kalergi. And then we shall have peace.

Digressions aside, you get a similar reaction out of many Americans when discussing anything socialism, because everyone knows that the smallest bit of socialism can turn any country into a revival of the Soviet Union under Stalin. Something about going against one's cultural identity and whatnot.

When will they go back?

Well... When Syria is habitable, many will probably want to go back.... Maybe some become German citizens and stay.

"Usually they take the jobs none of us want to do anyway."

More like a half truth. They take the jobs that businesses don't pay a fair and reasonable (let alone legal) wage for, that no sane Westerner would accept because it is legal and the gov't  turns a blind eye  shady business owner.

You speak for everybody? I know plenty of people who have no problem picking asparagus and strawbetteries. We even had farms where they would hire people to pick them. But, no way were they paying liveable wages. It was more a fun  side job for youngsters to make extra spending time. Certainly not enough to live off of and certainly did not abide the laws of a legit legal employment opportunity.

But, the HORROZ! People in the Western world expect the employment laws to be followed and to be paid at least the legal minimum. And, when they don't they're called lazy. :p

Of course,  majority of immigrants who are willing to work those types of jobs likely come from **** countries that treat them even worse. LMAO

More like non-natives are willing to work for nothing and live in a toolshed while the native kids are brought up by their parents to hate honest blue-collar work, to get a college/university degree so they can be the deciders to tell the native blue-collar class that they are too lazy and that their own societies, the only thing that the blue-collars have and the very thing they hold dear, are not diverse enough.

And people wonder why the kids play video games for escapism.

Crop harvesting is largely seasonal work, so it isn't exactly a great option for employment long term. Typically you get a mix of older generations that tend to move back and forth between countries (when possible, immigration restrictions actually mean they are more likely to stay in the US than risk losing the income), younger generations that may or may not have citizenship, and a lot of families that are basically split between the two countries.

I wouldn't call them tool sheds, but many are living in former seasonal worker houses that have been converted for long term. They are typically renting them from the people that own the farms that they work. This is obviously ripe for exploitation, although many of these farmers run smaller operations that do the best they can to provide for the workers while staying competitive in the market.

It's just good to remind ourselves that the economy relies on illegal immigration for stability. Building a wall and deporting everyone is not going to fix anything, every economist in the world will tell you that. There are smarter ways to enact immigration reform, of course. I just don't think we will see them under Trump.

Isn't Trump going to splurge big on infrastructure for exactly that reason.

Government spending on infrastructure is actually a good long-term economic investment though (not that private infrastructure wouldn't be better, but that's a different topic). Massive spending on consumption has little-to-no long term benefits, and all government spending has long term consequences.

I'm not gonna say that refugees are the devil, but the "economy grew because the government is splurging to take care of them" argument is poor proof to the contrary. This is especially true if you bring up that the government COULD have spent all that money exclusively on Germans; which would have been much better for them. All the growth and none of the turmoil.

"Good thing I don't heal my characters or they'd be really hurt." Is not something I should ever be thinking.
