The next phase of this mildly amusing piece of gaming soap opera will be the DLC.

I expect some hardcore nickel and diming that will make fluff like 'Witch Hunt' look like Tales of the Sword Coast.

I dislike DLC. I prefer expansion packs. I'm not in favor of spending money to add one extra quest, or one extra dungeon, that usually entails DLC. At least an expansion pack, though smaller than the original game, still has some kind of advancing story.

Or maybe I'm still bitter about that abomination (pardon the DA pun) that was Witch Hunt.

Nah. WH was pretty good. i haven't even bothered with ME2 DLC. It sounds. L0L Liara L0L

And, the fact theyw asted potentially an awesome character like the SB in a 5minute DLC is lame. WH was exactly what it was supposed to be - a tease that gave you some answers plus I like the companiions you got in it.

If you didn't bother with ME2 DLC then how do you know SB was "a 5 min DLC"? It wasn't. It was longer, more interesting, had a better story and much better production values than anything that was released for DA:O.

WH was a decent questline and had interesting companions, but was hardly worth the money and did not fulfill its marketing campaign's promises. "Her plans and her whereabouts have remained a mystery... until now"? Hardly. I still have no idea about her plans or where the mirror took (in my character's case) us. Or the fate of our child. It was a disappointment.

This might have been mentioned before, but did anyone look at the Metacritic scores for this game? Critic scores average 8, user scores average 4. Never seen a difference that big before for a video game.

I haven't played it myself, but I'm interested just to see what would cause a split like this.

I personally give it a 5. Wasn't horrible, but was far from great and did not leave me impressed at all. Sure as heck wasn't as great as advertised.

While I enjoy the combat (and I'm thinking of a few more interesting builds to try out), the encounter design has got to be the worst in any game I've played. Infinite enemies? Waves spawning right on top of you (sometimes just popping into existence)? Actually, ''waves'' are already a terrible idea. The combat starts to rely too much on AoE attacks, and at certain parts of the game I started wishing the game played like Diablo.

Cut the enemy count in half (except maybe for Darkspawn encounters) and remove any semblance of waves for most encounters and you have some half-decent combat.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

49 Hours, 15 minutes and I'm done!

Pros:

-I like the new art direction. More unique than the first game. This includes the new race redesigns of the Elves & Q'nari.

-The main Hawke character (Male or Female) is well voiced and the default appearances are great.

-I like the new combat animation. Much more exciting.

-Most companions are likable. Some are really good like Varrik.

-Some good C&C between chapters.

-The story gets very dark at points.

Bad:

-Having to mash the A button for every swing of an attack. My hand is sore after the final boss battle. I'm not kidding.

-Glitches. The Merril companion quest glitches horrendously near it's end. This isn't a small glitch contained to a few players but one that seems to effect every player who chooses a certain route in her quests. Great playtesting.

-Mobs. They spawn out of nowhere. Its not too bad early on but gets ridiculous later.

-Why was the Prince DLC? DLC should be stuff finished AFTER the game, not something that comes out day one to nickel and dime. Would be more forgivable if the game wasn't so rushed... which leads to the biggest problem of all imho...

-The areas are rehashed more times than I've ever seen in a game. There are less than 20 unique indoor & outdoor sections and they are used over and over and ****ing over. I visited caves in different areas of the game, every single one looked identical. Its like the entire game takes place in the city of Baldur's Gate, except with even less variety in environments. Before you say: That doesn't sound too bad... artificial doors are used to wall of certain paths to give the impression that this is a different cave, but the map screen is always the same. You will go down a corridor that shows a path on the map but will run into a dead end.

This is unforgivable, and the game deserves low scores for this alone.

CONCLUSION:

I was much more optimistic early on, but the Merril bug and the insane repetition of environments wore me down. For every step taken forward, another one was taken back.

Don't be a sucker like me and get the game at 60 bucks, wait for it to drop in price a bit. You will likely still enjoy it if you enjoyed the first... but sheesh... its no Mass Effect 2. That is Bio for you. They release an utterly fantastic game and you think they are made of gold then they drop a stinking pile and you wonder how they are so popular as a company. ME 3 will hopefully be a jewel and the next Bio game after will be a turd.

Hey, look at me ma, I still hate BIO, and bash them some more! Woo hoo!

P.S. The fact you basically praise DA here while you were bashing it 9with a few thrown in compliments) say it all. You've been negatvie towards BIo for years saying theyw ere dead yet claim this is their 'downfall'? L0LZ

Can you debate my points rather then toss hyperbole comments around like it is going out of style? When you can post a intellectual retort rather then a post that sounds like it written by a uncouth 12 yr old get back to me.

This has been explained. Day One DLC like this is to reward those who buy the game new since it's 100% free for those who buy it new. It's to combat used copies.

Truth hurts? I debate with those who disucss maturely. Your 'article' is not written by an adult but some young kiddie who has been repeating the same things for years. We get it. You hate BIO, and have felt they were dying since NWN. getn over it. This is the same stuff you spouted after NWN, JE, KOTOR, ME, DA, and ME2 yet you try to make it sound like DA2 is somehow 'unique'. *shrug*

That's why it can't be taken seriously.

Wait... wait... wait... free? I got a day one copy... a pre-ordered day one copy. I got the black emporium free. Are you saying I just wasted $7 bucks for the Prince...?

Edit: Just looked it up. It would have come free if you pre-ordered the Signature edition. I didn't. I still say this content should have been released with the main game, or with any standard pre-order copy at least.

Volo's been posting like that for years lol I don't think he'll change

Indeed. For those of you new here, here is a handy Volo logic guide:

Majority of people dislike or criticize a Bioware game:

Volo: This is a GREAT game! r00fles! Have you people even played the game.... etc etc etc etc...

Majority of the people like a Bioware game:

Volo: Meh, it's ok. Not one of Bioware's better game [insert random Bioware game here] Was much better at.... etc etc etc...

So.. hwo does this 'theory' hold up when the majority of people love BG2 which just happens to be my favorite BIO campaign?

Another failure in someone pretending to think they know me. L0LZ

Well, hmm...perhaps when it came out so long ago you said it was terrible?

I don't know. That was a while ago. I'm getting older, can't remember details that far back anymore on specific forum statements. I think I was only a lurker back then anyways.

That was on other boards to. WOW...now that's some memories starting to dredge up...the old Black Isle boards I believe...

I loved BG2. I have always loved BG2. It along with FO2 are tied for my favorite RPG campaigns ever. This has never changed even though the C&C in later BIO games are obviously better but since BG1&2 is what got me into BIo games and are the reasons people cna blame for me spamming all these years it'll be ahrd to knock it off its purch.

"I demand you remove your signature then"

I demand you read my entire post. I said BG2 is my favorite BIO *campaign*. ie. BG2 campaign > NWN OC (duh!!!) ; but overall NWN still reigns supreme. People seem to forget that NWN OC is just 'average' for me. LMAO

There's another logic to it as well. The game goes to content-lock a few months before release, first for testing and then, after it goes gold, for preparation of release. During that time, the developer is free to work on other stuff, including day 1 patches, DLCs, or whatever.

Whether you think the DLC is worth the money is your call. I personally don't think it is.

I didn't expect him to admit the pacing in the first act is horrible.

Using a defined protagonist is "kicking over the sandcastle," now.

Because I think some people felt a little bit detached because, frankly, it's not a game without a big looming evil dragon, demon, or demigod at the end

The most condescending developer I've ever seen, that's for sure.
