C2B
Mike Laidlaw: "Jade Empire could have a comeback" (German) English version (linking to GameBanshee instead of the original article because I spotted it there and because Buck's comment is fairly interesting). Colour me uninterested if Laidlaw is Lead Designer.
Morgoth
JE is 6 years ago, and BIO talked big about a sequel but 1.5-2mil copies wasn't worthy of a sequel at that time. *shrug* You have to see this in proportion. Back then this was a lot of profit. Today a sequel would easily sell at least the double, with Bio's growing popularity. Rain makes everything better. Volourn
"Jade Empire broke BioWare's mould of pseudo turn-based combat, preferring instead a button-bashing action system similar in many regards to Dragon Age II." Sorry, dude, quality aside, the combat of these two games couldn't be any more different. JE is the true definition of an Action RPG while DA2 is a full fledge RPG. Amount of combat (JE actually has BIO's elast amount, imo) notwithstanding. "You have to see this in proportion. Back then this was a lot of profit. Today a sequel would easily sell at least the double, with Bio's growing popularity." I am. JE sold 1.5-2mil. their game ebfore that,a nd their game after that (S:RPG not counting) sold 3milish. Now we have DA1 and ME2 both selling over 3mil copies and those two are way more popualr franchises than JE. So, that either emans JE gets a smaller budget to deal with the fact it won't sell as much or they'll expect too much from it and it won't meet their projections. If 1.5-2mil is not enough to satisfy BIO then JE2 is likely doomed before being released sales wise. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250. kirottu
JE had shallow combat against stupid AI in a shallow setting while following a mediocre story. This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.

Nightshape
I hope so. JE is their most underrated game 9as opposed to KOTOR (which is their most overrated game). English translation for an english forum? I won't hold my breath though.. Mera
I am. JE sold 1.5-2mil. Do you have a source on that? IIRC Xbox version bombed hard and I doubt PC version sold that well.

Azure79
I liked JE for what it was, but I was dissapointed in the setting. I was expecting more of a traditional wuxia fantasy setting with a lot rival schools battling for power, a few reclusive and powerful masters, a mysterious martial arts manual that everyone covets, but only the hero discovers through a series of strange and lucky events. I loved the music though.

Afaik it was published on the old Bioware homepage, before they were consumed by EA.. Nope, which spoke volumes. 5 million selling Baldur's Gate Series!! 3 million selling NWN!!! 3 million selling Kotor!!!! Jade Empire, a game we also made at some point... (Sold around the 800k to 1M mark, by best estimates. Cost MS a great deal as it was late in the xbox's life and a lot of people bought its loss leading console for JE and never bought another game, probably made Bioware money as MS was publisher and supposedly paid a very large exclusivity bonus.) Pop
Is it a different comment than when you mentioned that JE2 was Bioware's only cancelled project and you called Laidlaw a tool? Wasn't DA:O's lead working on a game that was eventually canceled prior to his resignation from Bioware? Maybe it never actually entered production and thus couldn't have been canceled. GreasyDogMeat
So Zenimax acquired Human Head Studios as well? I never heard anything about this. They didn't. They only publish Prey 2. Prey 2 will not use idTech5. I was hoping it would use the Rage engine, but I'm not worried. Brink is also using idTech4 and it looks great. Volourn
BIO loves RPgs but they don't make RPgs just for Monte Carolo (oer Volourn). In essence, youa re mad, because you aren't #1 on their list of 'who to please'. They have to make RPGs for lots of people not just a loud handful.
