bugarup
I don't get why majestic is all about that chipmunk pop. I mean, yeah, it's legit horrendous, but he watches anime and girls there are often squeakier and pitchier than...whatever those novelty projects are. Not to mention aural diabetes of typical anime and JRPG soundtracks Aaaanyway, speaking of Rammstein's covers. Tidal brought me this today and I am obliged to share:

Gorth
I remember having a few vinyl LP's with Ronnie James Dio in the late 80's “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. To me, he sounds resoundingly masculine, but once you try to sing along, you'll recognize that he actually sings pretty high much of time. Compare with, for instance, Vince Neil from Mötley Crüe who, shall we say, does not sound particularly strong in the maleness department.

The lyrics are pure gold. Highly recommended -- and do pay attention to the profundity of the message. (No way I can ever do the scream before the second chorus. I don't have pipes like that.) xzar_monty
I remember seeing this in 1984 and thinking, what the heck. From what I remember, the "intro track" (i.e. beginning of the video with no music but some serious narrative) for the song Rock and Roll Children is just about the corniest thing you'll ever see, but the song is pretty good. And on a more serious note, here's a great song that not a lot of people will know. The acoustic intro is seriously out of this world -- just the chord voicings are extraordinary, let alone the melody line. Trying to play that stuff means instant entry into carpal tunnel syndrome land for a lot of people. I certainly can't play any of it. I guess it is too late to back out now: I have all Manowar albums up to and including Warriors of the World, and I listened to them a lot when I was a good deal younger, and I know most of their lyrics by heart. They also have 'fantastic' cover art, and in various metal magazines the cover of Into Glory Ride was ranked rather highly in 'worst cover art of all time' lists. For me, Manowar's biggest draw is Eric Adams, and insfoar they share something with Evanescence - neither group would be all that remarkable without their charismatic and talented vocalists. I do not know how it is nowadays after their split (rather nicely put, considering he was fired after being accused of posessing child pornography, for which he was convicted and currently serves prison time), but in the days of yore a good Manowar concert was one where Karl Logan only hit a couple of wrong notes. Anyway, while All Men Play On Ten is inherently silly, there are Manowar songs with worse lyrics. Kill with Power from Hail to England comes to mind, or the infamous Pleasure Slave from Kings of Metal. My favorite performance is the live version of Master of the Wind from Hell On Stage. Song in spoilers because the cover art is slightly not safe for work. Spoiler Not very surprising, it puts Eric Adams front and center, and puts the band where it belongs, in the background, playing along. 2 hours ago, xzar_monty said: And yes, these guys haven't realized that all proper gear goes up to eleven. Joey de Maio likes to take credit for that, after all, amplifiers that go up to eleven appeared after the album was released, but it is much more likely they came out in response to This Is Spinal Tap than Manowar, both the album and the mockumentary were released in 1984 after all. Sigh. Another post like that and I might lose my street credibility as poster of utter drivel, although Manowar could easily be argued as drivel when one does not like heavier rock or metal. Hm, how to offset that? I time coded the video to the song part, feel free to watch everything: Although the lullabye is catchy as hell and the lyrics are hilarious. Azdeus
Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. xzar_monty
@HoonDing: Thanks for that! Nena had some pretty good melodies, it has to be said. Some of the 80s pop was ridiculously good... This one's a great karaoke song for train wrecks if the guy singing it doesn't realize his limitations. Like, he can maybe do a few of the steps in the chorus but can he go all the way. (Living on a Prayer is another that just destroys people. For the record: I can't sing either, no way.)

majestic
Speaking of anime tunes, this thread certainly lacks an Enka ballad. There's a full version on YT but the audio quality is terrible, so the short version of the intro must do. 2 hours ago, Gromnir said: as somebody who dislikes anime with extreme few exceptions, am almost surprised to admit we has enjoyed a few anime tunes... and am purposeful excluding cowboy bebop's tank 'cause it is the example every anime hater offers for the exception to a rule. yeah, not many likes for us, but the infrequent anime earworm is nevertheless more common than a show worth watching. I tried listening to the music you linked. The first one was cacophonic ear cancer and the vocalist in the second video is way too breathy (there's a limit to the amount of audible breathing I can stand, and this is very much over it). The last one was the only I listened to fully, but that's probably only because it reminded me a little of Ho-Kago Tea Time. It is admittedly a silly song based around puns, but it does have the advantage of me liking the series it came from, because that is pretty far outside what I normally would listen to. Still, there's probably worse music, and one could argue that I linked to worse, and that is something I am not going to argue against. I just absolutely love my Eurodance trash, which is by far and large helped by enormous nostalgia. Had a good chuckle at this part of your post, by the way: 2 hours ago, Gromnir said: as somebody who dislikes anime with extreme few exceptions Welcome to the club. Superficial appearances from thread participation aside, you'll get no argument from me here (and most certainly not from @Bartimaeus ). I am admittedly not certain if I want to ask what the few exceptions are. Most exceptions usually mentioned fall squarely between did not care and actual dislike for me*, but then, there are over 120 posts from me on this forum about an anime show aimed at girls from eight to thirteen that I enjoyed watching more than most other entertainment in the past two decades, where the protagonist does exciting things like trying to stop a tree from growing, 'fight' a painting which has no power beyond being able to send people a couple of yards away and helps her father catch up on some work after she accidentially trashed his computer, so that probably will not come as a surprise to anyone who actually read any of my posts on the subject. *By far and large: Akira, Princess Mononoke and, at the risk of @Make a contract with KP trying to assassinate me for saying so, Cowboy Bebop.
